Picked up a brand new Sprint HTC Hero on Monday (10/12/9) and within about a day it had stopped working entirely and was swapped out by a Sprint Repair Technician for another brand new one. I wanted to share the issues/experience.
Having spent an entire day fiddling about with the device, I noticed a couple of processes freaking out and needing to be forcibly shut down. I found out that this was because it had 0 internal memory left. I think that this was because I set up my gmail app to sync absolutely all my email to my phone, which obviously took up all the memory.
Without really taking too much time to think, I just decided to do a hard reset of my phone and restore it to factory settings. All seemed to go fine.
But the next day I was noticing that I wasn't not able to receive text messages. I was still able to make/receive call, and send texts, just not receive texts.
Everything worked perfectly prior to the reset: could make and receive both calls and texts, browse the internet etc. - the only thing that wasn't quite working was the bluetooth connection to my car: it was able to pair fine, but anytime it tried to do anything e.g. make a call/play music via bluetooth, the connection would die. However, a bluetooth connection to just a regular headset worked flawlessly.
I spoke to Sprint Customer Service on & off for about 2 hours. They tried refreshing the text messaging service on their end a few times. They also had me check that my phone was correctly programmed: the MDN number had actually reverted back to the temp number I was given (I was porting a number over from TMob). However, even after correcting this MDN number, it still did not work.
I was tempted to just go and get a replacement from the Sprint Store, but there was a repair center about 5 minutes away. Very helpful guy there (who actually ended up staying an hour after his shift was supposed to end) took a look at it.
He was able to replicate the problem exactly as described above. He decided to transfer the number to a different phone (a palm treo I think), and all the test text messages came flooding down. Although this would point to an issue with the phone, this could not rule out a network issue (for reasons that he did explain, but I can't quite remember). He then tried a hard reset himself: didnt do anything.
Finally, he told me that he had a new Hero sitting in the back. He tried setting up this new phone with my number and it worked perfectly.
So in short, my phone is heading to Kansas City (Sprint HQ from what I understand) to be broken down and examined.
Sprint repair guy said he had never seen anything like it before.
Want to also mention that both the Sprint Store salesmen and repair guy were the most helpful people Ive ever met. My salesman was actually on vacation: when i called the store to report the issue, they called him and he called me...very impressive. The repair guy also went above and beyond to keep me informed on the progress (as I was waiting while he worked on it), not to mention him working overtime.
I literally ported over last week from Tmobile and have been blown away by their service.
Just wanted to share the story. Feel free to get in touch if you want me to elaborate on anything.
UPDATE:
The brand new replacement phone has done the EXACT same thing.
Contacted the sprint repair tech. He says that sprint techs have a private internal forum and that the issue has been reported in the past (one of the reports was from a sprint employee who experienced identical problems (on Oct 8th - prior to launch).
From what Ive been told, the internal memory being full is the first symptom of the issue and that android processes begin to be forcibly shut down, and then txt messages cannot be received. Apparantly Sprint/HTC have an idea of what may be causing the issue but have not been more specific than that on the internal forum.
I'm getting my Hero swapped out for a brand new one (for the 3rd time) after work today. I've been advised to keep high-end feature use to a minimum (e.g. google contact/mail/calendar sync etc) until he has heard back from his development team.
Your title is quite misleading. Still happy it worked out for you in the end.
Yah your title is pretty terrible IMO for the post content.
Glad it worked out for you. I had a similar issue and had to have the device re-provisioned which didn't work, reset the device after the re-provision and it worked without issues since.
I have had mine for a while and installed around 60 apps on it yesterday all while surfing the net and texting. Before I went to bed I power cycled my phone and it was searching for service. Didn't have time to troubleshoot it until today noticed it was force closing several different things randomly and said I was out of memory. I uninstalled several programs and had around 30 mb free and still random force closings and no service.
Ended up doing a factory reset which seemed to fix the issue as I can receive calls and surf the market and internet but I'm not receiving text. As a matter of fact people said they were responding to my texts last night yet I never received any of them despite being able to surf the market and play games on my phone.
So now I'm wondering if my hero is jacked up as well and I'm wondering if it's related to using up all the memory on the device but I'd think doing a factory reset should have fixed everything but it seems like something isn't getting fixed correctly as I just had someone send me a text to test my theory and I haven't received it yet I can still do everything else on my phone.
If you are auto closing everything without setting up exceptions you will have issues. My radio stack became unresponsive after auto closing everything and I had to go through the system files that were running one by one to place them on the exclusion list otherwise it would keep happening. Now no issues.
I had the same issues with not getting txt msgs at first. I told the sprint rep and he simply tokd me to reset my phone...and it works great since then
Update to Original Message - Brand New Replacement Hero w/ Identical Issues
Yeah, the title may have initially been misleading, but it turns out its spot on.
The brand new replacement phone has done the EXACT same thing.

I will keep you all posted (if any of you are at all interested). I never usually post my boring issues on forums, but I thought this was pretty interesting given how new the CDMA Hero is.
Yes pllease keep us updated as i had the same issues as you did until i resetted my phone. I hope an update will fix the issue

were you able to receive text messages after the reset? if so your problem is different to mine as a reset doesn't fix it at all

Ya after reset my phone has been fine.
3rd Update - 3rd Replacement Hero
So I've just picked up my 3rd phone. The previous 2 are being sent off to Sprint HQ so they can determine exactly what is going on.
Apparently (as I think I mentioned previously), Sprint HQ have a very good idea as to whats going on but a) need to confirm it and b) wont tell the Sprint repair tech what they're thinking. In an email that HQ sent to the tech, they said:
“We should be hearing about a resolution shortly and I can check in with him later on today. I would simply let your customer know that this is the highest priority at development and they are close to a resolution.”
In the mean time, I've been advised not to install any non-standard apps i.e. anything but facebook/google. The tech has a feeling its down to one of the 2 memory management apps I used, Advanced TaskKiller Free and TaskKiller Free. Apparently the Sprint employee that I mentioned earlier that had this issue was also using a TaskKiller app. I was also advised not to set up any Microsoft exchange accounts as some problems have been reported, but I dont think its anything really to do with this (however, I'm following his advice all the same).
Should be hearing something from the tech guy early next week and will post the feedback.
mine is doing the exact same thing!!! i thought is was that nobody has texted me in the last couple of days but i was dead wrong..... im gonna try to uninstall task killer free and reboot to see if thats the problem.... if not, then back to the Sprint Store
Thats what happens when Sprint decides to patch up Android with CDMA support rather than waite for native in 1.6
You guys aren't just killing all the tasks when you are running these programs are you?

i did.... still same issue
I had to reset my phone twice today just to get the internet connection back. Android is a joke or maybe its just sprint. Im moving back to winmo as soon as hd2 is here in the US.
I can assure you it is not Android, but Sprints implementation of Android on the Hero. Hopefully we'll get a 1.6 update soon. Hang in there, it'll be worth the wait.
i hope so. i really miss bluetooth transfer and exchange server is constantly on i want to be able to set peek times. i also want me notifications to repeat until i acknowledge them. missed call only works or missed calls and sms.

I have reset my phone three times now and still not working. I can assure you this has nothing to do with the network as I'm still able to receive calls and emails hence not the network but what I believe to be HTC. Let me clarify, I believe I have either installed an app that corrupted my ability to receive sms text or somehow messed my phone up however it's the phone itself that's not erasing all info when I do a reset like it should.
I still have audio files from sound boards I installed when I initially got the phone that are still present after four factory resets that shouldn't be. This is a phone issue and not a network issue. Sadly the phone is so new there isn't a rom I can flash to that would fix the issue as whatever I did to my phone a factory reset isn't fixing it. It's that simple, if HTC made it to where a factory reset put the phone back to the original state then I wouldn't have this issue or files present from 3-4 factory resets ago....
This is frustrating :O
I recently had problems with my phone constantly giving me "Error 67" and I could not get data through the Sprint network at times, other times it would work fine. I searched on google and this forum a great deal, but could not find anything that fixed it. I performed the profile update, PRL update, contacted Sprint and did some thing in the dialer starting with ## (I do not remember the numbers) that did some kind of auto update, and even installed the official 2.1 patch. Everything seemed to work at first, but nothing sticked for very long before the issues continued. The issues first started when I had my phone overclocked and slightly unstable, I thought that I had maybe damaged the phone and needed a replacement.
After a week of all this, I had an idea. I had just recently sold my BlackBerry Pearl (8130) to a co-worker, he still had not had data turned on for the phone but could make calls with it. The next day at work I asked to see his phone. He could not pull up any internet data, but under connections data was still turned on. I turned it off (since he did not need it anyways) and tried it out. It has been 2 days now without any errors. The only thing I can figure is that even though I cleared out all my data on that phone, it still had my password to connect to data. Since it is a smart phone, it would try here and there, even though there is no need for data. The network would see my phone trying to connect after the BlackBerry and boot it since that password is already connected.
The only reason I made this post was because I could not find any solutions on the net that helped me at all. I hope with this post maybe I could save a few people the headache I went through.
My Omnia 7 keeps loosing it's 3G connection. To restore it I have to restart the phone. T-Mobile say that this happens from time to time, but it's happening every day now. It's annoying as it stops my push email from being up to date, and of course prevents the use of any internet based services until the phone is restarted.
Has anyone else noticed their phone has switching to GSM?
Had mine for 6 days.Been fine up until today, then I had the same problem.Only the once so far.
Confirm loosing 3G
Confirm loosing 3G connection, and also have phone call failures.
Factory reset did not solve the problem.
Bring it back to shop
Blackstone is back now!
At first this was occasional with my phone, then more frequent, and it's all the time. If I want to use the Internet I have to restart the phone. My house is covered by full HSPA, but the only way to get it is to take the battery out while the phone is switched on. I can sometimes get 3G by a simple restart, which I lasts about 40 minutes.
I like the phone, so I'm going to hold out for a software update. All it needs to do is check available networks and I think that, if this is a wide spread issue, Samsung/Microsoft will fix it. Hope so.
Please post here if you have this issue too.
I have also been having this issue... sometimes it doesnt come back straight away when i restart it but after about 10mins its back.
When I activated it with orange I was told to expect a few txt msg's that would need deleting and the phone restarting... I only got 1 msg, maybe this has something to do with it, maybe the phone hasnt been sent enough updates.
I also have this issue and have done for weeks. Orange couldn't solve it either.
It only happens overnight at home. I either need to reset the phone / rescan available networks or turn flight mode off and on again for the connection to restore.
I was thinking it may be an issue with t-mobile since it only happens at my home where orange signal is poor and i roam over to t-mobile.
If i stay in an area with good Orange signal i don't get the problem.
Good to know i'm not the only one with this problem. It's very annoying!
Hi y'all.
I had the same problem: 3G was lost every time. I was fed up restarting the phone every time, so I looked for another way to get 3G back. I found out that disabling and enabling SIM security (phone > setttings) got me 3G again... for a short while.
But: after disabling SIM security permanently, 3G kept on going (in fact for over a week now).
I think that changing the PIN to some other number, might cause this. I haven't yet tried changing it to the default PIN again, to see if using that for SIM security solves it. For the moment I'm too happy it works again.
I have suffered from poor reception issues ever since I got my Omnia 7.
It seems like the reception comes and goes. I will receive e-mails, which proves that the phone has been connected, but as soon as I try to use data myself, by visiting a web page or refreshing an app like facebook, the reception disappears and the "no reception" symbol drops down from the status bar.
Also, often when I try to send an SMS, it will appear to have been sent, yet 10 minutes later I will receive a "Can't send...try again" message. Once I have received this, the SMS will never successfully send. However, in the meantime I can receive SMS messages, which shows that the phone has been getting a signal.
This is SO frustrating and is ruining my experience with the phone.
I have posted requests on the Microsoft Answers forum and the only suggestions have been to reset the phone or turn WiFi off. Neither of these have had any effect. I have never enabled SIM lock.
I have heard that there is a firmware update due soon which includes a new radio stack. I am desperately hoping that this will improve the situation, as at the moment I cannot rely on my Omnia 7 as my only phone.
Alex.
Hi Loco,
You are right in saying that social answers doesn't really help much .
Luckily there IS a new firmware from a couple of days ago! Check out the Omnia 7 Dev section. There are only a few posts.
And here is also a good link for you. You are right to assume that it comes with a new radio stack which improves on performance.

Finally found a thread on this... I have been having a similar problem since I got my phone from Optus here in Australia. I took it back and they replaced it for me but the new phone is exactly the same. I don't lose the 3G icon but anything data related just ceases from loading. Right now I'm trying to refresh the Facebook app and it just comes up with 'Unable to connect', even though I have full 3G reception.
I flashed it to the newer leaked firmware and it hasn't changed anything, problem still persists unfortunately. This is a major problem that isn't getting enough attention! It seems quite widespread and Omnia 7 specific.
Had similar problems, but after I changed my provider ( O2-Germany), 3G is stable.
For the people having this problem, have you tried setting the phone to prefer 3g? Details of how to do this are here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=915813

Same here man. On Optus and my reception sucks with this device. What the hell is samsung doing? FIX IT!
I have been having this problem with my Omnia 7. The frustrating thing is this is a replacement phone I had for an LG which I had replaced THREE TIMES due to random resets. So now I have a phone that I have to turn off and on EVERY MORNING in order for the data connection to start working again. Needless to say I am very frustrated. I am on Orange in the UK. I suspect it could be related to when being an a poor reception area and it tries to switch to tmobile. I am going to try turning roaming off. Please, if anyone finds a solution to this let me know.
Thanks

My problem got worse with the Mango update. I'm now on my 2nd handset after having a replacement from Orange warranty. This one still loses it's connection but much less frequently.
TBH i don't think it will ever get fixed. I started an MS Answers thread months ago and lots of people had the same problem but we never got a response from MS.
Conisdering the age of the model now I doubt Samsung care, well they didn't seem to care a year ago so they won't now... For this reason I will not buy another Samsung phone. It's infuriating.
Looks like I am stuck with it until December then when I can upgrade to a Nokia lumia. A long wait :-(
i have this issue, too.. but for me i only have to set airplane mode on and off. sometimes i deactivate data connection, go to a random website, get the 'no connection' error, then activate data connection back and it works.
however, after installing the latest drivers & firmware, i get this issue A LOT less frequent. like once in 2-3 days.
i hope ms or samsung will fix this because it can get really annoying. especially when you need eg. a quick google-search..
Just flicking the flight mode wouldn't be so bad but that doesn't work for me, I have to restart the phone each time. I love WP7 but this and the other problems with the LG is driving me nuts. Almost wondering whether I should have just followed the crowd and gone for an iPhone.

Same as me - Flicking flight mode on-off doesn't solve it, needs a soft-reset.
Like I say, there are quite a few with Omnias on Orange with this problem.
I'm in the same boat, I've had this for months now so I guess I'll just deal with it until I can upgrade the start of April and get a Lumia (hopefully the EU 900/910 will be here by then!). There is no way on this earth Samsung are getting any more of my money. Nokia seem fully commited so they can take my cash next time!
I have the same problem with the data stopping working on o2 in the UK. But I also sometimes cant receive calls even though the phone has service, then there are the times where it site there going GPRS/3G/3G+/No Service and you cant do anything with it apart from pull the battery.
Hey everyone, i decided to create a thread for all Atrix owners for all Hardware/Software issues.
The goal is to hopefully document all known problems so that owners can be aware of issues and possible solutions.
I don't have a Atrix myself, but 2 friends of mine do and i will post there issues and the problems we have had so far!
So please post all problems so that we can easily find issues here.
So 2 of my friends have the Atrix and man it's been ridiculous so far!
Friend M. the "mooseman", is on his 3rd Atrix!!!
-First issue he had on Atrix #1, the charge/battery low LED on the top right did not turn on ever! When charging or full battery or low battery, led never came on!
-Second issue on Atrix #1, the phone wouldn't want to charge past the 40% charge mark either using the wall charger or from usb power from a pc. Factory reset, removing battery and cycling battery no good.
Solution: Atrix was exchanged for a new unit.
Atrix #2 from the "mooseman"
-First issue was again a charging issue that got stuck at a percentage, i think it was at 80%, even after being left on wall charger for a hour, Again no good.
-Second issue was that the screen was "Flickering" mainly very noticeable on any black displayed on the screen. We first saw it on the home screen background on a black part of the background, tried resetting rebooting, no good!
Solution: Atrix was exchanged for a new unit. At the bell store the tech wasn't even able to access the sim card over usb on the Atrix with a special device they had to copy sim contacts and info.
"Mooseman" is on his 3rd Atrix and so far so good, for now. All his Atrix's were from Bell and running 2.2
Friend M-furries. the "Iranian Warlord", will be going onto his 4th Atrix!!!
-First issue with his Atrix #1, he was experiencing call connection problems and dropped calls if i remember correctly. Also he told me that it would turn on by itself sometimes.
Solution: Exchanged the Atrix for a new one.
-Issue on Attrix #2, he had rooted the phone and enable 3rd party programs within settings, phone was functioning fine and was rebooted many times without issue.
He then decided to download "Talking Carl.ipa" which is a iphone app lol, why, god knows, but he tried it and when he did it didn't work as expected and gave him a force close, he forced closed and when he did, the phone rebooted.
Only thing was that know it wasn't booting up at all! It remained on the pulsing moto bootup logo and did not boot, even after many attempts nothing.
He went into recovery mode and did factory reset, what happened after that?
His phone booted up except that the resolution of the screen was as if it was really high as everything including the main menu, taskbar icons, text, everything was supper small and very hard to see!!! Furthermore he tried the phone dialer and nothing, it would try to open then instantly close! So no more phone except if it was a incoming call . He then looked for a stock rom for the Atrix but didn't find any so he tried to install gingerblur rom and still no good, everything was super small and phone dialer still closed when launched! We downloaded all drivers, moto agent and motorola sync and could you believe that there is no emergency firmware recovery within motorola sync!!! No recovery or option to upload a firmware, wtf!!! The samsung galaxy S had that option through Samsung Kies, as does the iPhone from iTunes, what the hell motorola!!! Called there tech support and it was useless, they tried a ota update lol!
Solution: Exchanged the Atrix for a new one.
-Attrix #3, he had it for a couple of weeks and now he is getting an issue with the screen "Flickering", it appears to be "Flickering" on the top status bar!!!
Solution: "Iranian Warlord" will be sending this unit in to get another one!!! He will be on his 4th Atrix!!! lol! All his Atrix's were also from Bell and running 2.2
Mods, can we make this a stickey?
Tell us more..
Well hopefully he will have a good unit when he gets his 4th Atrix, i hope! I'll let you guys know as soon as he gets it.
Update: Actually my friend with the "Attrix #3, he had it for a couple of weeks and now he is getting an issue with the screen "Flickering", it appears to be "Flickering" on the top status bar!!!"
After further investigation, It's actually the whole screen that was flickering, furthermore it only appeared when the battery was around 20%, however it disappeared as the battery further discharge towards the 5% battery level, strange indeed. Perhaps somethings up with the power management.
We also found out that there is a Bell update for 2.2 that fixes a couple of bugs, so we'll try that out on his phone and after testing it for a while I'll post here any updates from it! Hope that it works because these are awesome superphones!
We are going to try this update first before getting the 4th atrix.

Sorry to say but your friend is an IDIOT there! Like really? What was he thinking loading an iPhone app. It's OBVIOUS that it WON'T work. I mean if it was THAT easy, we'd have ALL of the iPhone apps running alongside with our android ones! Second this is in no means a fault on the Atrix. This is purely HIS fault. Your friend took the chance too root. He should have done his research and had he, he would have read in basically every ROM/root thread here that THE BELL ATRIX does NOT have a SBF to fall back.
I'm just surprise that Bell would let you exchange the phone because once you root, you lose your warranty.
fairly happy with 2nd one BUT !!! .....
My 2nd Atrix works OK so far. The first had the voice quality issue.
I still have 2 big problems:
1. WiFi crashing router. After some time (sometimes many hours) my router will crash (needs full restart/unplug). I put the Atrix on its own router so it does not affect the rest of my home network.
This happens with my Actiontec (FIOS), D-Link Dir655 and Linksys WRT54GP2 (super old but thats what the Atrix is currently on)
My DIR655 is running pretty old Firmware but I just dread redoing all my setup/config if I go to the latest 1.3x.
Does anyone here use the Atrix on a DIR655 N router without problems?
I turned Wifi sleep of on the phone etc, etc but still!
Pretty annoying but I can live with it. My first Atrix did exactly the same.
2. VOIP mic problems! Skype, sipdroid etc... Its supposedly a problem with the MOTO implementation of the AudioSource Object. Its very limited and does not allow commonly used settings. I read that you can also only use the back mic.
I wonder what MOTOs official statement on that is?
Its true and I told him that he was retarded for even trying that lol! Luckily he was able to change it! However he is still having issues with this atrix, he's waiting for the bell ota update to fix a bunch of bugs on 2.2
My 2 friend's haven't had any wifi problems though, perhaps its the router your on? Wifi has always worked on all they're atrix's that they had so far!
Issues:
1. The LED (one of them would flicker and then go off).
2. The voice quality on the phone. Everyone would tell me I sounded muffled.
3. I have a problem with network error on the Market app.
4. If I leave my finger relatively still on the screen for longer than 15 secs, the will stop responding for a few secs and go crazy. (This happens with all units. It's a "feature" on the phone). Kind of makes it hard to play games.
5. I can't lay down the phone on any surface that is not flat, as the LCD will not work (ie. bed)
6. I get randomly disconnected from the AT&T network.
7. I get a few reboots per week. Sometimes in the middle of a call.
That's all. Besides those things, the phone...is still horrible.

I'm actually using a DIR655 and I don't have any problems. Then again, I'm using firmware 1.33NA. That's bizarre though, I've never heard of a device crashing the router. I'd recommend that you bite the bullet and upgrade your firmware. You do know that you can save your current configuration, right? It's under:
Tools > System > Save to local harddrive
Love this phone so far. Luckily I haven't noticed any of the mentioned problems. Except 1, with VOIP, it doesn't seem to be working properly. Yesterday I tried Skype, tried speakerphone, tried headset, tried BT, nothing worked, I can hear the caller, but they can't hear me at all. Now today I tried again, I can still hear them, and there is a weird progress, they can hear me, not with BT, but with headset and speaker both, but my voice as they say was very broken, noisy, too much disturbance etc...
Besides this issue, (M)Atrix rocks!!!
Atrix just wont connect to mobile data, it will tease you with showing you there is an H+ connection available, but it wont let you axx it..
And it worked fine for one day x.x

Issues:
1. The LED (one of them would flicker and then go off).

no issue here on that...not sure what to suggest :/
2. The voice quality on the phone. Everyone would tell me I sounded muffled.

hmm...I remember reading that people that had this issue, when they lowered the noise cancelation feature, they didn't sound muffle anymore. Maybe you can try this out? I don't have this issue, so not sure if that will help.
3. I have a problem with network error on the Market app.

Are you still getting this on WIFI? I know sometimes the Market acts up on its own, though I haven't heard of it happening recently.
4. If I leave my finger relatively still on the screen for longer than 15 secs, the will stop responding for a few secs and go crazy. (This happens with all units. It's a "feature" on the phone). Kind of makes it hard to play games.

hmm...got to try this to see if I have this issue.
5. I can't lay down the phone on any surface that is not flat, as the LCD will not work (ie. bed)

I've noticed the opposite accutally...if the phone is ON a flat surface, it doesn't respond properly. Like multiple times I am required to click on an icon shortcut on the homescreen.
7. I get a few reboots per week. Sometimes in the middle of a call.
That's all. Besides those things, the phone...is still horrible.

I think you should exchange it for a different phone :/ I know the reboot issue is fixed with the 1.5.something update for AT&T.

Have you forced trottle your network to only be 3G? Are you in a known weak 3G area when that happens?
so this is the second S7e and second SIM that I have been having this issue with. The phone will lose connection to the mobile network and the ONLY way to recover is to reboot phone. Reset Network Settings doesn't do anything. Toggle airplane mode doesn't do anything. Search for Network Operators doesn't do anything. I have a third phone on the way - but has anyone around here heard of or experienced similar? Am I missing something that I should be doing to correct this?
Thanks in advance
I too have this problem. Got a replacement refurbished phone under warranty and the phone has this problem

Did you pay the $20? I didnt want to pay the 20 so i sent the device to samsung. Should get it back friday or monday. The issue is definitely phone related. Im using a verizon s7 now and no issues like that arose. I even tried new sim.. My father is having same issue t-mobile s7 edge
Yes i had to pay 20. And it's disappointing I am having this issue with the replacement phone. I am having this problem on the U firmware as well.

I've suffered the same issue from time-to-time and just do a restart....annoying as hell to be honest
Are you guys always in the same location when this is happening or is it just whenever and wherever? Or is it happening a one certain place where cell signal isn't that great? I had this same issue BUT only in my house so I had to get a network range extender from t-mobile to use at home.
This happens to me all the time. It's so annoying. At work, in the car, at home--it doesn't matter where I am. Have reset firmware multiple times and even rolled back once too. I think it has to do with the latest software because I never had this issue before the Fall/Winter. Hopefully Nougat fixes this!

I am having the same problem, this will be my 3rd phone 4th sim. I wish I knew how to fix it
I would try flashing different radios/modems, its worth a shot. Maybe try flashing the "U" firmware radios.
Nougat will fix it
My wife and I had the same issue on our tmobile s7 edge ... we got the 7.0 beta and now the issue is gone .... I bet it's radio and software related ... 7.0 will be out by the end of the month hope that helps...
I had this issue with my phone, and it was a huge pain. The biggest concern: I didn't know when my phone was off network (voice, data, etc.). The fix, for me, was simple: a new SIM card.
You may have an issue from a rejected permission on an app.
Had the same issue before but I did a hard reset and realised that I changed permissions on an app that wasn't written for 6.1.

I hope so! Been waiting for that before I try anything drastic, even though this issue is a huge pain in the ass. I'm glad others have come out of hiding to express their concerns with it as well. I thought I was the only one for the longest time having this issue.

Many of us have tried new SIM cards, but it's worth a shot if it's still not working consistently after Nougat is released.

My and my friend's phones are both running pure 100% OEM Tmo stock without any apps disabled or touched at all and we have this issue and have done multiple resets. Pretty sure it's an actual hardware defect, or hopefully just a software one with the modem/radio.

I was thinking about going that route. But I wasnt sure what condition the phone would be. How was you condition?
I sent mine to samsung and the things they replaced is the Coaxle cable "antenna" replaced 3 of them. I have been using the s7 from verizon on the U firmware so havent seen if it is fixed.

I received a refurb. Other than this problem, the phone is alright. I noticed this problem on receiving the phone it was running on T firmware. Then I switched to U firmware and radio but no difference. I called customer support yesterday, they said to go to a retail store to get the phone replaced. My worry is going through this process again and if I receive a bad device again what to do? After all refurb phones are like playing Russian roulette!

I just had this start happening on mine... I really wish they would release nougat already. It is ridiculous they won't post an Odin flashable version of the release candidate if it does indeed fix the issue.
I also think its a specific tower configuration that is causing the issue that the radio can not understand. (Maybe 3xCA). Its happening in the same areas every time.
I just started having this problem in the past month. All at once I've been getting BT sometimes turning off, mobile networks failing to reconnect after I visit a no/low signal area (such as after a plane trip when the phone was in airplane mode). I've also seen wifi mode fight my attempts to turn it back on sometimes - toggling itself on and off a couple of times per second until I poke at enough settings to stop it. When BT turns itself off I have trouble turning it back on, sometimes it just goes back on, sometimes it refuses after a number of tries and if I wait an hour it goes back on just fine.
The folks at a BB Samsung kiosk said they could reflash it if I wanted to go that route, but that the nougat release would be out soon so it might be better to just wait for that. Has anyone had a Samsung rep re-image their phone to try to solve this?

If you were able to fix without a reboot you didn't have the same issue as this.

I guess I wasn't clear about that as I have several problems that are probably related, but behave a little differently.
BT dropping - can usually turn it back on, but sometimes it refuses. Usually don't need to reboot to fix this.
Wifi dropping - often have trouble turning it back on and have seen the widget toggle off and on repeatedly by itself. Sometimes have to reboot to fix that.
Mobile Network data (and voice sometimes) dropping - usually have to reboot. I think I may have recovered that once without a reboot, but the other few times it's happened in the past month since it started I have rebooted and that fixed it in all but one of the reboots - one time I rebooted and still had to fiddle with it a bit after the reboot before it came back. That may have been because I played too much with the network settings before the reboot and so had to undo that damage after the reboot. But, definitely rebooting is a fairly reliable step in fixing this problem.
All 3 started happening around the same time which is why I thought it was a software issue (I remember a small update a little over a month ago, but forget the details of it). It's nice to hear that others also have the mobile network problem, but if that is isolated in those cases then maybe I'm not seeing exactly the same problem. But, it is clear that rebooting is almost always required to get my mobile network data back so that again suggests that at least that part is the same as what this thread is discussing.
In looking at the T-Mobile updates page for the S7 Edge I see that the version I have (G935TUVU4APK1) was updated in early November - which tracks when I started having problems, and it includes a fix for "Domestic data roaming improvements", which definitely sounds like they may have played with the radios.
I am so ready for the Nougat update...
