Does anyone else's DT2 rattle? I've had mine about 5 days (purchased used but in as new condition) and yesterday I noticed it rattling around the top when shaking it to do the flashlight on motion. I have held the buttons, removed the SIM/SD tray to no avail. I'm pretty sure it did not do this the first couple of days. I have not dropped it or let it experience any shock. As expected, it doesn't rattle when stirred.
I've seen various posts about rattles in phones, other Motos and Samsungs and even HTCs but none about DT2. Everything is functioning normally that I can see. Does anyone else's do this?
I can confirm that mine rattles. Sounds like it is the ear speaker. My ear speaker sounds like crap at high volume too.
When I shake my phone the flashlight goes on. No rattle though.
Wow mine rattles. Never noticed it til I read this. Never been dropped. It's not loud, you have to listen carefully but it's there. Everything seems to work OK. Speakers sound good. Idk.
No rattles...and we have 3 turbo 2's since mid-November (before Thanksgiving)
I thought mine didn't have a rattle until I did it a certain way. To hear mine you have to hold phone up to your ear like you were talking on it. shake it (not too hard) in and out not side to side. It's definitely the ear piece.
I just got my Turbo 2 last week and I noticed it right off the bat. Everything is working fine though. It seems to be coming from the sim card/sd card slot on top. Prob just a bad design, a little play maybe where the cards sit in the tray is my guess.

Rattle that phone
p.s.
Sorry for off topic.
I gotta update. Yes! It does rattle. When I put my ear right next to the ear speaker I can hear it. Besides my Motorola RAZR HD MAXX rattle as well. My good ole Droid X makes the sound as well. It is interesting. My guess it could be a gyroscope. It does not bother me at all! I bet all smartphones do it. 3 out of 3 of my Droid do rattle.
I've had 3 turbo 2's and they all rattled.
I definately can hear something moving inside.
Bought a new x force 1580 a week ago, and it rattles quite a lot in the upper part of the phone. Even when the camera is active, even the vibration is off.
Its a pity I have bought it in Finland, and I live in Russia, so it will take me 6 hours drive to try to replace it. Did anyone succeed in solving this some how? Did they fix or replace your phone with this issue?
I have noticed this on the phones that I have had. I first noticed on the Galaxy S5. Funny thing, I launched the camera and tried to make it rattle..... Rattle gone.
Yes, this is normal rattle from the camera lence. I've had it on my Oneplus one. But the rattle i have here is much stronger and it does not stop when i activate the camera

I got mine yesterday, everything works fine except its microphone's quality. The other people hear me like I talk from distance away.
Is this common problem or just mine?
Thank you
This is something that I experienced initially when I got my Atrix, I resolved it by moving the phone up closer to my mouth. I tend to let the phone hang from my ear where I hold it near the top and it put's some distance between me and the mic. I'm a former iPhone user and was lazy with where the phone sat on the side of my head, once I made this change though people have said I sound clearer than when I was on my iPhone.
I can't talk closer, the speaker is exactly on my ear. It looks the microphone has very bad sensitivity. Too bad all Motorola cellphones i had in the past they had excellent quality.

I have same problem, I turned off noise cancellation and got some improvement. I'm pretty sure it is a software issue. I also put a clear bra type case on it from some 3m stuff I have, I didn't cut out for the mic on the back. I'm hoping this too helps but have not tried yet.
Im getting an obvious rattling sound right around where the camera is on the 6P when I tap pretty much anywhere on the phone, front or back, doesnt matter.
I tried to pinch the top right corner between my fingers, pretty hard actually, and then tap on the phone again, and the sound ALMOST goes away. Loose component?
Anyone else have the problem?
Yeah i believe the newest update fixes rattling noises and adds band 12 for tmobile users.. battery improvements too

Same here. Used to have this issue with the N6, many said it was the OIS. Seeing as how this phone lacks OIS, perhaps its a loose component.
I'm hearing this also. I think it's the camera but mine works great no problems at all.
When I owned the iphone 5 it had the same sound and it was the camera module. So no biggie. If I get any problems with the camera I will surely ask for an warranty replacement.

Same here. Anybody tried to replace phone because of that?
I have it too. No biggie as long as it doesn't affect performance. I more worried about the pink hue on lowest brightness setting (adaptive display on)
I decided that it was so loud and obnoxious, I did an RMA on it. Replacement will be here tomorrow. Will see if the new one has the same issue. I would normally open my own phone to fix the issue myself, but with a 3/10 repairability score, Im not likely to touch it. If the second one does it, I guess I'll live with it.
My previous phones all had this except N6. All our iPhones suffer from it. Not sure what it is though
If it helps any my Galaxy s5 has this.. I noticed it after changing from a an S3 that never did, it ended up being normal on the s5, something do with camera something in there jiggles or rattles a bit.. espically if i just shake the phone i can hear it.. never had a problem tho..
I have the same noise in my 6P and I tell you what it is, is the camera auto focus let's I side hitting the body of the phone when you toss it around and when you put it on the table. It should of had more space in between the camera lens and the body of the phone. Because the lens moves when it auto focuses and any camera with auto focus will have some play when you move the phone, because if the moving parts, the space inside the phone around the camera is so o tight, it touches the body. I hope it will not damage the camera with time.
Every phone with a camera will have this. The lens needs a few mm of empty space to move back and forth to focus. It's basic optics. Nothing you can do about it.
I too have this problem. The rattling sound is loud and clear.
As few of the customers are having this issues, I believe it is a manufacturing defect. I will ask for replacement as I can not bare with such issue. Had spent huge money on phone, why should I compromise and get settle? Need Replacement.
Anyone get a replacement for this yet? Is the rattle still there?
I sent back my 1st 6P for a defect in the screen, got my new one yesterday and it's got this rattle everyone here is talking about - I don't remember my first one having this? When I squeeze with a little pressure, it goes away. I called and have a replacement coming, but with EVERYTHING else on the phone being almost perfect, it scares me if this is the normal?? If it is, I'll keep my current 6P and live with the rattle.
I'm on my third 6P now and all three have had this rattle. It's just the camera. I have a N4 in front of me which has a rattle when tapped around the camera, so did the Galaxy Nexus. I'm sure the N5 had it too. N6 didn't, maybe because it had OIS?
I'm sure it is just the camera elements. If you start the camera app and tap there the rattle is almost non existant. Probably because the autofocus is active and holding the optical elements in place.
My 6p doesn't rattle. RMA?

I also have this rattling sound in my Nexus 6P. I tried to investigate it (without tearing it apart) by going to ifixit. If one examines the back portion around the camera, there is a white wire that runs across almost the entire width of the phone (checkout the image here: https://d3nevzfk7ii3be.cloudfront.net/igi/ZlpUoq3OjhHJsqTo.huge). This wire, I'm not sure if it is glued to the motherboard or body and hence might be the reason behind the rattling noise. I hear this rattle when I gently tap the area around the camera or when I casually keep the phone on a hard surface (without being extremely gentle about it which I believe no one is).
If this wire is lose ( not carefully attached to the metal cover which holds the 3.5mm headphone jack and the front camera ), you might hear it bounce against the metal.
This isn't a problem. I have in my desk my 6P, a OnePlus One, a Nexus 4, an original Moto G and a Nexus 7 2013 and they all do the exact same rattle when I tap them near the camera. The rattles ceases or decreases when I open the camera app and the devices' cameras focus.

I'm pretty sure the camera makes this sound. I've had 2 6P's and they both made this noise when I either tapped on the phone or go to put it down on a table.
I'm on my 2nd 6P and just noticed a bad rattle when I tap anywhere on it?? The rattle appears to be coming from the upper right, but sounds like it may be all the way across the back of the phone.
I seen, and responded to, another thread that suspects the camera as the culprit??? I don't recall my 1st 6P being this bad.....So I spoke to Google and they are sending me my 3rd 6P.
I guess the main reason for this thread is: Everything else is perfect on my phone, except the BAD rattle..... Has anyone returned their phone for the rattle and gotten another one that rattles just as bad? I guess I'll find out for myself next week, but I was just curious what the masses say?
Camera... Most cell phones do this.
It shouldn't do this to the point you feel it is a defect of sorts. The camera rattle is minor and only when slapping the phone against the palm of your hand or when landing the phone on a table with a light thud. It SHOULDN'T be audible on taps on the display, typing or even shaking the device in the air. At least mine doesn't. Thank God.

Yeah, that's about how bad it is.... I've had numerous phones with a slight rattle, but this is pretty pronounced when just typing I can hear it (even with all vibration turned off).

just did rma on 6p 128 graphite ..when i put custom kernel with dt2w noticed immediately ,,right upper half screen rattles >sounds not attached..double tap works sporadically...not to happy -new one coming wednesday ..if same issue or something else, going to pass on 6p..
Mine does it too but it doesn't bother me. Everything is working fine, so for me, I don't see a need to RMA. My old Moto X did the same thing.

It appears you may need to RMA. Your call...
I could hear my rattle in the galaxy S5 just by shaking it. The N6P you have to tap pretty hard to hear it. Not worth the RMA to me as I don't see it as a problem. Most phones do this if you hit it hard enough these days.
Don't lightly tap it.

Turn on the camera and tap. The rattle should be less pronounced. It is the camera AF.
I've recently noticed that my left/top speaker is incredibly more quiet than the bottom/right one. It's almost as if it's stuck in "phone call" mode.
I'm rooted, still on Marshmallow (last available version). I've tried rebooting in safe mode, nothing changed. I've tried disabling all Xposed modules, nothing changed.
The speaker is not dead. It simply plays extremely quiet when compared to the other one. Could it be broken or is there something still left to try via software?
I have the exact same issue. Unfortunetly restoring stock Google image didn't help either. I think it's the hardware
same, but mine is bottom/right speaker. it will come on intermittently, usually if i flip phone around a bit into landscape....
am on 7.0 stock/rooted...battery issue has become an annoyance to...ugh
I had this happen after a drop of oil (skin treament oil, not motor oil) must have landed on the grill. At least that is what I hypotheseized. Problem was, because it was an oil, it wouldn't dry any time soon. It was actually so quite, when I made my first call the next day, I thought my phone wasn't working, then I heard a very, very, very faint noise from it. Compressed air in a can helped clean some of it out, and it got better- tolerable. Over the next few months it's very slowly improved, but it's still a little muffled sounding compared to the right, but the volumes almost match now. The grill in that speakers still gathers more junk than the bottom one, and I have to keep it cleaned out regularly. So, any chance a contaminant of any kind got in there? Try canned air, or gently use a clothing pin to remove any dirt/debris.
I think it's a poor design, because my Moto X Pure never had any issues with speakers getting wet or dirty.
Edit, I'll add that the entire speaker was muffled, not just one part of it, the whole thing sounded like it was broken, and I thought it was a hardware issue at first. Until the canned air got a little tiny bit of liquid/oil out. It improved by 50% with the canned air, then over months it slowly evaporated.
Check for metal shavings in the grill as well. I work in a factory and get it all the time.

Hello... Don't know if you're running stock kernel, but you could try to change the gain of the top speaker with a kernel manager app: Kernel Adiutor, EX Kernel Manager, etc... If your kernel supports it. Most custom kernels do.
Good luck...

I could do this but I fear that to get acceptable results I would run the speakers entirely out of specifications limits.
If opening it was easier I would have checked for oil/water/anything inside.
It's supposedly still covered by its warranty but that would lead to an undefinable period of time with no phone... and that's unacceptable for me.

Hey. Sorry, I didn't think about the "out of specs thing". The warranty won't cover water damage anyway. Though a repair seems to be the only way to get it to work.
I fear myself the day I'll have to open mine...
Goos luck...
Success! Re-reading everything that was written here I tried remembering if something happened that could justify what I was experiencing. And I remembered a cocktail spilling on the phone. Back then I didn't give it much thought because the phone kept on working and I wiped away everything almost immediately. I tried blowing hard inside the speaker grill and blowing and blowing, I noticed some liquid coming out of the speaker, very little drops obviously. Then I "slapped" the phone against my thigh repeatedly.
Thanks to everybody chiming in and especially @HikingMoose that made me think about this.
And now volume appears normal from both sides of the speakers. Using GoneMad Music Player I can adjust speaker balance and both seem to be playing at equal volume.
I have the solution for that
I'm pretty sure I have the solution. That's not b cause I'm claiming smart lol but thats because exactly what has happened to my nexus 6p recently. I got this nexus 6p as a replacement so it was new. A month later the top speaker got extremely low. If you go to YouTube and type stereo speaker test. You would here the difference. I thoughts it's the Oreo update/hard reset/ google support but no luck.
Anyways I thought of taking of the speaker grill to see if any dirt is blocking it. Believe it or not: as soon as I took the top speaker off I noticed the speaker got back to work asbestos loud as the bottom one. So it's the grill mate.
JUST BE CAREFUL THOUGH, it's hard to put the speaker back in. You might not be able too unless you glue it or something. I could not find anywhere to buy a replacement. Just be careful

I'm having the same problem on the top/left speaker, sounds seem muffled after accidentally poured chili oil on it (lol). Anyway, how did you managed to take out the speaker grill?
I am using Mi A1 for about half month and noticed cracking, rattling or clicking noise when I touch ( I wouldn't say press) back cover around fingerprint sensor and camera. Sounds like some adhesive coming lose or something.
Similar as being discussed here:
http://en.miui.com/thread-884436-1-1.html
Is someone else experiencing the same? Im not considering RMA right now since the phone is without issues and good as new (never felt or something, everything working)

Bought a Global version, 64 gb, black a couple of days a go and mine does that as well . It is getting on my nerves now. Going to return it back and have another one.
My phone have same sound/clicking noise too, but the phone is working properly without any issue, from January 15, when I bought it.
Most probably is from the camera lens, I'm not sure, just I'm guessing, so my advice is to ignore that sound and do not shake too hard the phone, use it normally like any other phone.
I can confirm that, noticed this 3 days after i bought this phone.
I must rate the build quality 2 out of 5.
Feel like it has plastic back cover.
I can confirm the same thing on mine
Now i keep pressing mine
Hi guys i noticed that mine does this too
Its annoying noise but no problem with software
Anyone has problem with such issue?
I heard about this issue a long time ago and i don't have it
As far as i know, it's just a black tape/adhesive on the back cover. Don't worry about it
After some time I visited back and see it is a common problem. I no longer use my A1 without a case so it doesn't bother me anymore. Also the phone has been flawless all around
Yeah with a case doesnt bother me too
Now I am a relieved .. and I dont worry for this sound thank you
I bought the Samsung A73 on this 6th September. It has the metal sides with plastic back-body. When playing the nulls brawl game, i just clicking its back side, and it, too, gave some hollow sound. It's like it's hollow inside. Before this mobile, i had Redmi Note 9 Pro with glass body that never gave that hollow-kinda sound. So, I was so disturbed with this sound, thinking there's a fault in this brand new mobile.
Reading all these comments, i'm relaxed that it's normal and not a issue with the mobile. I, then, bought the Spigen hard backcover. And there's no sound now.
For sure this so-called issue is so confusing when you buy a new phone and hear this annoying sound on touching the back of the phone. Who would want to go to the procedure of exchanging the phone just right after buying it? So tiring. I thanked god when I found out it was just normal sound for phones having plastic body.
