Has anyone installed the nexus one browser, contacts, calendar, and launcher on their tablet? Basically, I hate all of the Samsung Apps and want a plain froyo rom. I'm willing to install packages from my nexus one until I find the time to build one...

You should be able. I installed the calculator apk from my nexus one into my tab, cause the euro Rom didn't come with one installed, and it works without an issue.

I've been wondering the exact same thing (minus the launcher - I'm using adw since that's what comes in CM for my N1). Since it's barely been a week since purchase, I'm still a little afraid to start pulling apks over to try it out.
I tried, but I get a "replacing system package" warning, then the install fails. I tried this with my tab rooted and unroored

I think the nexus stock browser is a lot faster and more stable then the stock browser on the tab. I tried pushing over the browser.API from the nexus. But unfortunately everytime I start the browser it immediately closes. I just wanna try it out and see ignite any better.

I am using ADW Launcher instead of Samsung Launcher and DialerOne for the dialer but I am missing the simple calculator that was on my CM 6 Nexus One.
Samsung apps are just ugly.
Not 100% sure, but some apps are dependent on the framework of the rom. You can't simply start swapping things out. Contacts and dialer are one of those things. A lot of applications rely on other things that's why they won't work. Once someone cooks up an AOSP rom for us then we can start tinkering in the world of Vanilla...
I'll gladly support someone porting over Cyanogen mod.
Youlu address book, miren browser, launcher pro, half way there already!
I have installed Calculator.apk from CyanogenMod 6.0, it works fine.
I tried to install Music.apk from CM 6.0 but it is blocked by crappy Samsung's MusicPlayer.apk. So I used TitaniumBackup to remove MusicPlayer. Then after reboot it still did not like it, because it seems Music.apk contains native code. So I tried Music.apk from beta CM 6.1 for Galaxy S and it installed just fine. Unfortunately it doesn't show music controls on the lockscreen so it must be a function of the lockscreen. So it is not better than Music Mod.
I would recommend everyone looking for vanilla music app to use Music Mod from the market.
So, like most people on this lovely planet, I received a Kindle Fire for Christmas. One of the first things I did with it was install Spotify. However, like most people know, the Fire's software UI controls cover up the Spotify controls, making it sorta useless.
So this morning I decompiled it and made a few quick changes so it would work better.
The only remaining problem is that I couldn't find out how to reposition the view player (the little tab you can drag up that displays the album art, music controls, etc...). So instead of repositioning it, I moved the music controls above the album art. You can bring it up by clicking the (blank) center button. It works 100%, just doesn't look at nice.
Finally, I replaced the icon with an icon I found in the hi-res folder, so the icon looks all nice and spiffy in the carousel. *You might have to restart your Fire before this will take effect if you have all already installed Spotify on your device*
I attached some picture showing what I've done.
Installation instructions for the plebeians:
*On your Kindle*
1. Go to settings > Device and turn "Allow Installation of Applications" on.
2. Download the attached modified .apk
*For some reason it will give an error if you try to install with the default installer on the Kindle Fire, so you can't simply install it from the browser*
4. Download AndroXplorer for free from the Amazon App Store
5. Open AndroXplorer and browse to /sdcard/Download/
6. Tap KFSpotifyAndroid.apk and it will bring up a dialog asking you to install.
Ta Da!
*I lied about being able to install it over your previous spotify app. Make sure to delete any previous Spotify app from your system before installing.*
*This is not a cracked version, simply a small change to the interface, in order to use Spotify on your mobile device you must have a subscription. (Though they do give out trials to new users.)*
And that's that. Enjoy Spotify. Hopefully they're working on a more official version, but this will do until then.
Probably a stupid question, but this is a free app that requires a paid subscription..right?

Thank you so much for sharing. This works perfect on the Kindle!

Works perfectly, thank you!
So I tried as you suggested, installing via the androxplorer as well as ES-file-explorer. Neither one allowed the .apk to install!
I'm running a stock kindle, the only change i've made is to use Go-Launcher.
thanks,

I just downloaded your modded app it installed no problem,I logged in and it plays, but I don't have a paid subscription. Have you some how unlocked it for a free login? If so, thanks.

No, only the inteface has changed to accommodate the "bar" at the bottom which blocked the controls on the Spotify app. If you don't have a paid subscription, the app is useless.
Thanks man, works perfectly. I got install errors at first, but all I had to do was uninstall the existing app completely before trying this one.
Great work!

Missing file
Hi all,
There's no "KFSpotifyAndroid.apk" file available to download. I tried downloading the "SpotifyAndroid.apk" file, which did overwrite my existing install, but this did not fix the issue with Spotify controls.
There's another file in the /SDcard/Download folder: "Spotify-41200180.apk" but generates an error "Parse error - There is a problem parsing the package."
Help?
The file appears to be missing-- is there any way it could be reposted? Thanks for the help!
Thanks

Folder support
Hi, love this apk. Have tried it om my Xcover and it works much better than the original. It's Awsome. But is it possible that you could add folder support? Would really love that
I downloaded the fdroid apk and did adb install; fdroid runs fine. I was hoping to use it to do most of my sideloading, but the firetv has "unknown apps" disabled, and for now there's no way to change that.
so everything else below, I just went to the respective developer website and got apks and then adb install.
k9mail works great, the only issue was first launch - the screen has 2 buttons at the bottom "import settings" and "next" - the 2 buttons don't show up (i.e. the text is invisible) until you scroll down on the remote (then the button text shows up) - but after getting past that I loaded up my usual settings.k9s that I had copied from my phone, and all was well.
es file manager we all probably know pretty well. although this was the first time I noticed the "remote manager" tool, which is nothing more than an ftp server. but that's nice to remotely mess with the filesystem without having to use adb.
es task manager also works as expected.
connectbot loads, but as soon as you try a connection it dies. haven't looked at logcat yet.
jackpal android terminal works normally.
EDIT:
side loaded chrome 34.0 (.1847.114) works perfectly aside from the 1st time you run it.
(the first time, the license agreement chucks the app sideways into portrait mode. if you can manage to click the large blue button, quit, and restart, it will be back in normal/usable landscape mode. there is a checkbox above the large blue button - leave it unchecked, it's not related to the license agreement, it's about ads or agreeing to receive advertisement emails or something)
side loaded firefox beta 29.0, works perfectly.

ipcam viewer
still waiting on mine , can anyone verify ip cam viewer sideloads and works as written ?
thanks in advance..
have verified ip cam viewer and tiny cam pro work great.
This might seem like a crazy question, but is the Amazon App Store app on there or can you sideload it? Mine is in the mail and was trying to think of things to do with it before it gets here.

It already has a very fragmented amazon store built into the launcher. I tried installing the official, but the install failed because it already exists.

it's not a crazy question - a lot of this stuff is still unclear.
the app store is there, more or less - just go into the app section of the UI, and you have your installed apps and also the available apps.
or you can do it through amazon website, here's all firetv-"compatible" apps:
http://www.amazon.com/b?node=7031433011
the sad part is, it's only about 10% of what the app store offers for e.g. kindle hardware or generic android.
if you skim through the free apps for generic android on the website, you can add all sorts of useful things. once you add it, the app page tells you which of your devices it's compatible with. anything in the amazon app store that is not included in the above link is "not compatible" with firetv.
it's kinda sorta really stupid. trying to sideload the app store app isn't going to help, either - because it will still be able to ID the device as a firetv, and it will make the same restrictions. add something free like history channel or es file explorer, and it will show up here:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/mas/your-account/myapps
but they will still never show up on your fire tv, because "not compatible" (uh huh.)
(plus, I would worry about the chance of sideloading an amazon app such as the appstore, could mess up the underlying amazon-framework. probably unlikely, but...?
this is also why I have held off sideloading the kindle software reader app.
hopefully amazon will get with expanding available apps soon, it is still early days. BUT CMON NO KINDLE READER APP WTF SPAMAZON. jeez.)
xda app works. Also got google play music to load but couldn't log in to my account.

other random notes -
I decided to try sideloading com.amazon.kindle.apk (ganked from google play store) for the heck of it, after all.
interesting part: it does seem to have some knowledge of the underlying amazon framework - doesn't ask me for ID/pass, it already knows the device is registered to amazon.
stupid annoying useless part: none of my books show up, no matter what I do.
maybe getting the apk from amazon app store rather than from google might make a difference. I dnno.

the built-in es media player in es file explorer, works surprisingly well - I have been using it for medium-bitrate mp4 and mkv files (over smb/cifs, no less) as a temporary solution until xbmc is working better. and it's really not bad at all!
///

I just ran it from settings->apps. it's not really a permanent switch. I haven't tried open launcher, so can't offer much help sorry.
what I got was standard nova desktop, with no notification bar (even though by default it's enabled), and with the app tray on the right.
at that point, if you press the menu/context button on the remote, you get a list of options including nova settings and android settings (which as mention, only kicks you back to the amazon settings) wallpaper and stuff.
if you go into the app list, all you see is all your sideloaded apps. no way to get to actual amazon tv/video/games/apps, without jumping back to the amazon launcher. and then you have to run settings->apps->nova again, if you want the nova desktop again. (or simply alt-tab, if you have a keyboard connected)
and you will also see an icon for the "amazon video" app, but nothing actually happens if you try to run that one. (I'm guessing it's not exactly an app as much as it is part of the framework, or some kind of helper etc.)
I don't really recall seeing any "complete action using" dialogs like I would see occasionally on OUYA, but then I didn't play around enough to see if it was possible to make the launcher more permanent or stick better. but when I ran a sideloaded app from nova desktop, and then quit (e.g. xbmc) it would exit to nova rather than to amazon.
ahhhhhhh ok I see. just now tried open launcher for myself - ok so it won't let you run the launcher without making the switch in settings. and we have no way to get to those settings. and the 'home' button the dialog box is talking about, is a very different thing from the home button on the amazon remote.
that's really too bad, it looks like a pretty nice launcher.

yeah, I tried to find a way, but I don't think it's possible with the stock rom, since it lacks so many settings normally found in android. There aren't too many launchers meant for GTV type boxes, and that one seems pretty since.

Can anyone try with Sopcast app?
If it can play without hiccups sopcast streamings of 3000kbps I will definetely get one
I have tried a bunch of games sideloaded.
Working with Ouya BT controller:
GTA Vice City and San Andreas
Shadogun HD
Bard's Tale
Sonic CD
Games that load but we need touch mapping once we get root:
Shadowrun Returns
Ravensword 2
Chronotrigger
FFIII
Dungeon Hunter 4
I am loading some emulators later and I will post the results.

I could only see one 3000k channel on the default server - turbosport tv.
at first it was jerky because it kept running out of buffer. (even 1500k channels did too)
but then I paused and waited until the buffer went up to 100.
after that, I have been watching the 3000k football for about 5-10 minutes so far, and not a single hiccup.
really nice hd picture, and there is no corruption, no artifacts, no weird/unsettling motion/blur.
EDIT:
oh, it definitely made the firetv warmer than usual. but it is not hot in any sense.
with normal use (xbmc, Prime TV) mine is either room temperature, or a little bit warm in the one corner where the cpu/soc is.
with this program, the entire heatsink is moderately warm.

I loaded Settings.apk and Launcher2.apk
the launcher only crashes, so don't bother.
the settings, a lot of them crash as mentioned in the article.
but so far I have a bluetooth speaker paired, connected, and WORKING - sound is coming out the BT speaker and not my TV.
even fired up PrimeTV and sound was as normal, only it was the BT speaker.
xbmc? darn right the sound is coming perfectly out of the BT speaker.
now I turned off the BT speaker, and sound is coming out the TV again. seamless as it should be.
turned the speaker back on, and it autoconnected, all fireTV audio is back on the BT speaker again.
Apps going outside the screen
I am able to load many of the apps mentioned, but most of them go beyond the screen. Is there any way to calibrate the video?
I am really trying to get Xfinity TV Go to work on my NP. I have tried the one from the play store as well as the Leanback Launcher one that is out there. All of them crash and say "Unfortunatley, TV Go has stopped" when I try and play a video or watch a live stream. I tried an older version of the app last night and it loaded video, just no sound. Does anyone have any success with this? I know others have said theirs work.

I managed to get a version to work. I had to extract the apk (unzip), remove the lib/x86 folder, re-zip, and sign.
Since when you sign, it will be with a different key, you will have to uninstall the current installed version first.
Either use adb uninstall com.xfinity.playnow
or, if you have root and want to keep the data, adb root; adb shell pm uninstall -k com.xfinity.playnow
Then install this:

I am going to try this when I get home. So can I not just uninstall the current xfinity tv go the normal way and install yours?

I tested out the app last night and it works! You are a genius! I did notice that the 3 dot menu does not work, so you can't watch live channels or search for anything that is not on the main menu. Android broke that functionality in 5.1. I then downgraded to 5.0 and it worked perfectly. I did not root my NP and when I woke up it had updated to 5.1.1. I may have to downgrade again and root so it does not change.
My question for you. Do you know a way to use the 3 dot menu in 5.1.1 in general? BC it wrecked tons of apps we sideloaded. Also, since you are good at altering an app, would it be easy to alter the xfinity app to allow the 3 dot menu?
Can you edit the androidmanifest and make the app open to "networks" instead of featured? Or any other section in the context menu?
OMG it works!!! Ive been waiting for this day for months!

I didn't try remote. But controller (gamepad) doesn't work at all.
The mouse is required to navigate through the app on Nexus Player - login and navigation.
And yes - no way to open menu or so ever. Basically you will be stuck on first 'Feature' page only.
In my case it was 'Must see', 'Thu Night TV' and 'Wed Night TV'.
Tried to play one of the available episodes - works perfectly fine.
Any thoughts on why this wouldn't work on Android X86? They are both Intel.

The ADT-1 uses a Tegra 4 SoC so it's an ARM device. If you update the operating system to Android 5.1 or higher, then some of your apps will lose the hamburger or 3 dot menu access.
Gabby It was actually really easy. Decompiled the apk, Edited the "\smali\com\xfinity\playerlib\view\launch\PlayerLaunchStrategy.smali" file. Replaced the two calls to the /featured/FeaturedActivity with /browseprograms/LiveStreamsActivity. Then recompiled and signed. (I did have to use the apk that you posted as a basepoint).
Has anyone an idea where to get the apk files for the leanback versions of apps like zattoo? I'm now on Lollirock 5.1.1 rom and have to use tablet version of most apps. Some work ok to control with remote but some need keyboard or mouse to click somewhere. Using the leanback app store would also be fine
OK, i wanted to give this device a Chance. Tried out different Roms. Stock 5.1.1 and 6.0 preview, even rooted is not able to control Volume. Apps like sambadroid do not run. Amazon Video is not working. All these things work on lollirock. But common, it really does not look like modern technology, running a tablet smartphone screen on a big TV. You cant even install the lean back versions of the apps so you can sit in Front of your TV with keyboard and mouse and control your **** looking Smartphone apps in your TV screen.
Gonna have a look at the new AFTV....
What I do is install the target app on my phone or tablet and then email the app using titanium backup to myself and install it on the NP.
There are other apps to backup apks, or you can do it manually using a file explorer.
So i would need to install the stock leanback rom again and email me the apks. switch back to lollirock rom and install these leanback version of apps on it.... hmmm
I see this app in the play store
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zattoo.player
Alternatively you can search the web for the apk.
this app comes pre installed with leanback stock rom. when using another rom like lollirock i can only get the tablet version from playstore. which sucks on a tv. i dont find a leanback version of the zattoo app on the web. most of the leanback apks i find on the web are for US providers. Zattoo is for european users i guess...
