Hey,
This morning I tried to install OTA android update like an idiot just how you'd do it on a non-rooted phone.
Now if I try to boot up my phone it'll go on normally for under a minute and then power off and enter the TWRP menu.
What do?

Yes, as I said I'm probably retarded for doing that. I know absolutely nothing about rooting/flashing/all this stuff.

Probably being retarded again, but how can I get the downloaded .zip into the TWRP Backups folder? My PC can't access the phone's storage when it's off/in recovery.

keep it on your external SDard>>twrp>>backup . then insert to phone ...go to twrp>restore from sdcard.
there is also OTG support in twrp you can connect your USB drive to restore.

TWRP doesn't seem to recognize the file; nothing shows up in Restore -> from sdcard (also when I browse the directories in Install sdcard -> TWRP -> Backup is empty)
I moved the ZIP file downloaded from step 2. of http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-play/general/rom-xt1563-brasil-stock-6-0-twrp-t3272979.

thanks for the solution. I didn't know that. I generally copy the whole backup folder and while placing backups from external source I place it inside my serial number folder.

Are you familiar with adb?
Do you have it all setup?
Are you getting an error?
What happens when you try to get into cwm recovery?
Did you delete the update.zip from the sd card that was placed there during cwm flash?
We need to know those answers before we can guide you in the right direction.

Ok, so that's because you are in stock recovery and not clockwork mod...use odin to reflash cwm. The error shows that the update.zip is not on the card...and you must leave it there and not touch it at all.
If I was on my PC I would post link. Koush has a index of recoveries and a fascinate.zip. hold you can rename it update. Put it on the root of ur SD, then when u go into recovery 2 e hit apply update.zip and go into clockwork and wipe data/cache
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
if you have windows vista or windows 7, find the fascinate.zip recovery and rename it update only. then put it on the root of your sd card, in other word the first screen you come to when you mount your sd, and not in any folder. here ya go, and dont forget what i already suggested you do in recoery 2e
http://koush.tandtgaming.com/recoveries/
Ok,, I really thank you for helping me, but I did what you ask and this is what im getting, in odin I I can not see my device, I renamed the fascinate.zip to update and put it in the sd card root directory. I feel like anything that I try to put in sdcard root dir... recovery 2e fails it...
Im sorry if im not being clear, but I am new at this,

Having had to use the odin files twice to recover my phone, I will confirm you *MUST* have the correct Fascinate drivers downloaded/installed for this to work. Go ahead and download all the Odin recovery files and save to a location on your computer (just in case) and I also downloaded the Odin .exe and saved it to pc as well. Pull battery on phone, and reinsert but do not power phone on. Hold Power UP and plug powered-off phone into USB cable, should return a yellow triangle with a droid shoveling. Open Odin, and your device should show as a yellow block in the first slot for devices. Now, click on PDA button, and choose the "System" recovery file FIRST! It'll take a couple of minutes, phone will reset. If this doesn't fix it, begin using Odin to flash the other files one at a time, testing device between. It may take a few tries, but be reassured, this *CAN* and *WILL* fix the phone if used properly.
So I rooted, then put CM10.1 nightly and gapps on my sdcard, then went to flash, and I spaced out and accidentally formatted SDCARD when i know that I shouldnt have. crap.
i tried using the "sideload" feature but it wouldnt work on my adb-mac version, i also tried adb pushing ROM files to SDCARD, it says transfered but when i go to flash it says no files in SDCARD, I also tried pushing to SDCARD/0 but i get an error that it isnt a directory since it is formatted.
SOME ONE PLEASE give me instructions on what to do. Do I have to go back to stock or can I just get this to go straight to CM10.1? Id prefer straight to CM10.1 obviously.

So you've successfully flashed a recovery img via fasboot? Did you also push a copy of the ROM zip back to your phone?
Boot to recovery and then adb push the ROM to the sd card.
Code:
adb push yourROMsName.zip /sdcard/
The above code assumes you've placed the rom zip in the adb or platform-tools folder on your PC.
Can't you just boot into fastboot, flash a recovery, boot into said recovery and mount the internal storage and drag and drop the files from your computer?
How did you format the SD card when the phone doesn't have one?

yes i did repush the rom file. this isnt working because i dont believe that flashing a recovery adds folder/partition information to the sdcard. maybe im wrong, but it didnt work.

Yeah but doesn't the Nexus 4 lump all the internal storage together, I know other devices like the OXL have like 6GB internal storage and then a 'simulated' mSD card of about 10GB, making 16GB total. But the Nexus 4 uses the whole 16GB (or 8GB) as internal storage.

yes definitely agreed.
although ive always wanted to try one, and it worked! if this were to happen again (if i dont shoot myself) then i will be doing it manually.
Thanks so much to everyone for all the help! I am now running Official CM10.1 Nightly (newest) and running beautifully so far. This is my second N4 tho, so I will be using my 1st stock one for today since its already setup, have to go to work now and will setup my new CM10.1 N4 later, hopefully wont find any crazy bugs...
I had the same problem and after reading this thread I tried the Fastboot method first:
after I finished it didnt boot so I continue with the inst', then it booted but only with 8GB, so I continue with the inst' and from that stage it just didnt boot.
At the end I tried the root toolkit V1.6.2 and the phone back to life with stock rom and 16GB.
I'm back to stock now. But I've used the sideload successfully. After you get your phone restored, you'll probably want to do a full factory reset because some of your pushes have probably gone through and are now eating up space. You can't delete them that I know of unless you FULLY format.
ANYWAY
When I got sideload to work, I had to push it to /sdcard/0/, /sdcard0/, or something like that. Wish I could be more specific, but I don't want to change from stock to install cwm (the ROMS have too many bugs so far, and we might be getting 4.2.2)
The key is finding the right directory to push it to. Experiment with slashes, and it SHOULD work.

Do you have adb + the drivers installed? If not, do so now and then adb push the files to the phone. adb will work even if you're in recovery. Should be plenty of write ups on the forum about how to install and set up the required stuff.

It can't be on the Nexus 4. If you don't have the files on your phone it's your only option at this point.

This backup is b130 stock, once i get update to work i will post stock b140 and b150
The backup contians system, recovery and boot data is empty like a factory restore. I made a debloated backup with root in my other thread its also b130 https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/-t3546850
Here is the stock backup you will find guide below which will tell you how to restore it.. You need to download the backup first to proceed https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bx88t3CJrNjoSkYwZUlHTmEzMW8/view?usp=sharing b1.30
if you do not want to mess with cust skip to step 5
how to backup and restore cust partition
1.load twrp recovery on you phone. then goto your adb folder and hold shift then right click, there will be an option says open command window here click on that, once you have the command window open type adb shell and press enter, then type su
once u have root or aka su, copy and paste this command unless u wanna type itdd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p23 of=/sdcard/cust.img
2. once the first steps are done now u can pull the cust partition to ur phone by using command adb pull /sdcard/cust.img it will send the backup to ur adb directory.
3. you can verify that it pulled the backup image by going to adb directory where u launched command window from.
4.to restore a stock cust partition links and guide down below flashable in twrp.
5.after the file is downloaded and you have extracted files proceed to next step.
6. goto TWRP\BACKUPS\serial\ replace with your serial number then proceed.
7. once you have done that u can copy to sdcard use usb cord to copy the files over, or wireless what ever method u choose
8. if you are not in twrp recovery yet, boot to twrp now so u can flash the backup. if you did everything right when u goto restore the backup should be listed.
9. now you can restore the back
ps im not responsible if u mess things up or brick you phone do at your own risk.
be nice if someone fixes twrp and ads the ability to backup and restore cust and other partitions.
Im going to try port twrp 6 i think it is first time so may be awhile. if someone else releases a fixed version then were good to go
This is Complete stock cust none modified for b130, if you modified you cust partition by deleting files. k heres flashable twrp with mirror clsA https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=745425885120705728and heres a mirror if first link dont work
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bx88t3CJrNjoaFNqTE5rbEZuc1E
1. open twrp recovery make sure the flashable zip is on sdcard.
2. click install select the file you put on sdcard swipe let it finish and you are done
Please feel free to ask question if u need help also hit the thanks button if this guide was helpful thank you.

2 restore backup all partitions for full stock or just everything but recovery. I used winrar to compress the back. stock backup https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bx88t3CJrNjoSkYwZUlHTmEzMW8/view?usp=sharing b1.30

should be all stock recovery and all was my original stock backup only thing different is the formated data partition but that just makes it stock as if u did a factory recovery. it has all stock bloat apps if thats what ur asking bout cust@jilebi if it has errors u might of got corrupt download. someone else posted it fixed their device. for those it worked for please post to let people know that it worked how long it might of took etc. and if u took any extra steps i didnt mention. might of misread or not understood what u were saying bout the crc . thought u were saying it had crc errors when extracting. i will see about get a crc value
If it's a TWRP recovery made using the one and only XT TWRP version we have, it doesn't have the cust partition backup because TWRP doesn't have the option to backup that partition .

hmm well i dunno if i modded mine or not but i can dump the partiton as a img that can flashed with fastboot while i learn to compile the twrp for out phone or add support for that cust folder. we need someone who only has twrp and rooted to dump there cust partition in adb shell at least for now im not sure if i removed stuff from mine or not i thought it was restored with the system. does it not restore the files deleted in cust partition with my backup if not well yea til we can get someone to dump that partition or do a complete os dump with all partitions i guess it wont be 100% stock but as close as we can get. i didnt think of dumping all partitions til one person who asked for system etc cause i thought twrp was gonna get them all in the backup
madvane20,
How could a backup without the cust partition restore anything to that partition? It's just not possible .

Good idea, @madvane20! Do you have access to the source code of TWRP for Acend XT, for you to change it to take backup of cust and other partitions?
