Help! Constantly Losing Signal When Make Calls - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I been having hard time troubleshooting this Huawei Google Nexus 6P. This phone has an updated Android version Marshmallow 6.0.1.
Here is the problem, it has LTE which allows me to browse the internet using my SIM data service. Overall, the phone is superb when it comes to cellular internet connection.
Problem is when I make call the signal automatically drops. Even dialling emergency protocols to test it out lead me to loss the signal. Right after the call the signal goes back again.
So far what I did are;
1. Hard reset
2. Unlock bootloader
3. Install TWRP
4. Root
5. Install custom firmwares
6. Revert back to stock firmware
7. Install different 'radio' images
8. Install different stock firmwares
Unfortunately, none so far give me a positive outcome.
Anyone has idea to fix this rare problem is highly appreciated. Anyway, once I get ways to fix the problem I will surely share it to everyone.

Network not registered issue

Hi Guys,
I am writing this Thread believing that I will get a solution as Yota company has not provided any solution after 15 days trouble shooting. I just brought the phone from Russian seller through eBay.com to India and after 2 months of fight from the local customs office I just got my phone. I was very happy and was floating in air to have the first dual screen phone in my hand. The phone was flawless with dual screen was working awesome. The phone came with lollipop update. I switched on the phone with out inserting the simcard, the phone prompted for a small 350 MB update and I just update the phone. Then I just inserted the Simcard after which i started facing issue. The issue was the phone is able to read and shoe the service provider name but there was no network signal and it was showing only emergency calls. When i tried to make calls it showed network no registered. I tried with different simcard which resulted in the same issue. I though it might be a simcard issue and checked with my old phone but there was no simcard issue. So i just contacted the Yota tech team through mail to help me on this issue. They asked me do some basic troubleshooting but there was no use after 15 days they asked me to ship the phone to nearest service center which is in Russia. The issue is to and back from Russia customs will cost me the price of 2 Yotaphone fist generation phone price. So I through of resolving this issue myself and researched in online. I found that Samsung phones were also facing the same issue after update and tried all the solutions given in internet but there was no use. Finally there was a solution asking to root the phone and install the ariza patch which would solve the issue. I just rooted my phone and when I installed the ariza it showed it was not compilable for yotaphone 2. I just searched in XDA forums and could not find anyone reporting the similar issue with a solution. So I through of creating new thread in hope of getting a solution in this issue. Please help me in this issue by creating a patch or any solution which will me help me out of this. I am not able to use the phone as the basic call function is not even working reset the phone is a heaven.:crying::crying::crying:

Do you still have this problem?
I wasn't sure at first, I thought it was my sim card, but I have tried 2 different networks sims and they both get no signal in my Yotaphone 2...
The network's name does appear, so the sim must be being read somewhat, but I always get no signal.
I literally have no idea what to do.
I too turned the phone on without a simcard, flashed the RU latest rom, flashed TWRP, rooted it etc, surely that has nothing to do with it...?
@bharath9962 ! I fixed it!
I have no idea why this happened, and I spent a few hours trying to fix it, very angry. I downgraded to 4.4 to see if it would help, put back the native China rom that came with my phone (accidentally deleted my backup too...)
I bought a new sim card just for this phone because the old one did not 'work'.
This is not a popular phone so it's hard to find information, anyway... I'm very relieved now. I can only imagine you gave up...
I found the answer here - thewichitacomputerguy.com/blog/how-i-fixed-your-sim-card-does-not-allow-connection-network-g1
1. Open the phone dialer
2. Enter: *#*#4636#*#* (Once entered, you will be taken directly to a "Testing" page) [4636 spells INFO]
3. Tap Phone Information
4. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and you should see a button that says radio off. Hit this button and when it reads radio on Hit it again to turn the radio back on. <-- (Not a Typo)
I rebooted and waited a few seconds, no signal. I turned on airplane mode, turned it off, and it worked!
Now I can go back to RU 1.99 and reinstall all my stuff...

My country is in Asia but I believe this does not matter - the problem was that somehow the radio (cell phone function) was 'off'/glitched, and had to be turned on+off to make the phone function again. Using a different country's sim card would not fix this problem.
As I wrote above, we both share the fact that we first turned our phones on with no sim, and updated. Maybe just a coincidence...
Just try the guide and please let me know if it is fixed!

Fix for Yotaphone 2 YD206 from China
If you already flashed the phone to latest EU 5.0, you can skip 1-5
1. download via FTP: fw.ydevices.com/YotaPhone2/YotaPhoneFlasher/yotaphone2_flasher.exe and install
2. run flasher and download latest EU rom (2 - 5- 7)
3. turn off the phone and turn it on while holding volume down - this will boot the phone in "downloading..." mode
4. in the flasher press 1 (Flash the cellphone)
5. the phone is now on 5.0.0-EU1.1.124b and 2G is not working at all and 3G is connecting only to 2100 MHz (on my cell network)
6. download via FTP: fw.ydevices.com/YotaPhone2/Firmwares/CN/4.4.3-S01-003-CN1.0.3.32a.zip
7. unzip the file and copy \radio to c:\program files (x86)\yotaphone_flasher
8. run cmd and go to c:\program files (x86)\yotaphone_flasher
9. repeat step 3.
10. run next lines:
fastboot flash modem radio\NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot flash sbl1 radio\sbl1.mbn
fastboot flash rpm radio\rpm.mbn
fastboot flash tz radio\tz.mbn
11. reboot the phone and enjoy 2G and strong 3G signal

Hello!
I try to figure out what you did but I get stucked in number 10.
Actually I flashed my Yotaphone with the chinese radio the first time, but I don't get good connectivity.
Anyways I try to do what you wrote, but when I tipe the first line (first fastboot command), cmd keep saying waiting for the device... maybe is that I'm impatient but nothing happens.
I try other USB ports and nothing works...
So actually I don't know if I'm doing it right or if I have to wait for a longer period of time (10 minutes or more).
Any help would much appreciated.
Cheers!
Hi there,
you don't have ADB drivers installed. Google for "universal adb driver" and install. There is driver included with yota 5.0 firmware (C:\Program Files (x86)\yotaphone_flasher\Driver\Google), but any other adb driver should work as well.
And use original yota usb cable!!!
It shouldn't take more that a few seconds for those commands to execute.

Had the same problem
Hi all, I had the same problem when I flashed russian firmware (YD201) over my phone which originally had honkong firmware (YD206).
I can inform that for me it also worked to flash the Chinese firware with yotaflasher.
However, when I tried to only flash the radio, it seemed it did not work. So I flashed the complete chinese kitkat firmware with yotaflasher and then afterward just removed/renamed the radio folder when flashing the newest russian lollipop firmware. Everything working great now, even was able to do some ota's without any problems since the ota's did not update anything of the radio img's.
And indeed you first need to make sure that you have the fastboot drivers installed and your device gets recognized as fastboot device by your PC.
You can test this by doing "fastboot devices". If you device turns up there as a fastboot devices, then the drivers and connection from pc to phone are ok.
Good Luck!
Thank you deepmnd and tomgaga.
Actually I had to activate developer options... And then reinstall the ADB cause, aparently I had it but it didn't work.
After that the instructions worked perfectly, but I still have network issues.
I don't know if it is because I have a MVNO (Mobile virtual network operator) and the phone has to change between the networks ( the one that provides the network and the MVNO).
I think that when it changes from one net to the other is when I lose connectivity and sometimes I have to search the network and choose it manually.
So this problem actually happened to me and the solution was to activate Roaming services (but I dont' know if is actually the same problem).
Anyways I can see that I connect to EDGE, HSPA/HSDPA and LTE.
For sure there is a way to monitor the network and check wich ones works.
Another guess is that being a phone for the chinese market, and the lack of the 900mhz band is causing this ¿?
So at the moment I'm losing signal just by walking on the street and I live in a big city. It seems that LTE and H works fine but I don't have a a way to assure this.
When I will have a spare time I will try to reflash the phone with the instructions deepmnd provided and see if it will work.
Thank you for your help!
Any advice will be appreciated!!
Update:
I try tomgaga approach I will test it just to see if is the network or my provider
Does anybody know which bands different firmwares support?
Reception is incredibly bad in my case (206 flashed with EU firmware).
It'd be nice if somebody has any info on unlocking different bands for yotaphone2.

Here you have the bands
https://www.frequencycheck.com/compare-devices/qkjseR/yota-yotaphone-2-yd201/yota-yotaphone-2-yd206
I have the same problem as you, I will try this weekend to downgrade to the older chinese rom and check if the reception get better.
And if then to the latest RU rom.

Thanks for that, it helps a lot to clear the situation regarding the two models.
Now, taking in account deepmnd´s solution above, would it be possible to find those missing bands from the original 206 which are not available to the updated (and then international, 201-) version and add them individually, file by file via the fastboot flashing?
I followed deepmnd's instructions, and my phone now connects to GSM/EDGE, which was not possible before using the EU Radio (latest EU rom). Thanks for this!
Unfortunately it now preferably (!) connects to EDGE, although the LTE/WCDMA-Option is prioritized. I can force the phone to connect to WCDMA by using the WCDMA-only-option, but in this case it does not commit a fallback to EDGE if 3G is missing and I have no connectivity at all, unless I change the band-options and force a connect to EDGE. I'd like it to switch between the bands automatically, as my YD201 did without problems (in Germany).
Any hints to solve this problem?
Thanks in advance, Knut

Thank you! I had missed calls and did not know what caused them. Then I noticed this happened when I was not on LTE network but on WCDMA or 2G network. And this seems to have solved the issue for me as well.

[N910S] got it to work! Exynos Korean model, Eng-only custom ROM, no bloatware!

OK, *FIRST TIME POSTER HERE* so please excuse any unintentional ignorance of rules or etiquette.
I'm just super excited to get this phone working the way I like it, and it's all thanks to xda so I was moved to create an account to express my thanks AND hopefully help a few people back.
How? Well after reading through pretty much everything I could find on the N910S here and elsewhere, it seems that no-one (yet?) has been able to confirm a working mod that meets the following:
1. N910S Exynos Korean version
2. Some kind of custom English only ROM that removes the Korean characters from keypad and other network-apps
3. Removed bloatware
4. Easy-to-follow, how-to guide
Seems there were quite a few ppl who wanted the same thing so I just want to let you know what I did to get it working.
*PLEASE NOTE* Everything contained in this summary was found through over a week of tedious reading, research, trial & error. BUT in the end all the necessary information was contained, or linked to, in xda forums. It's just that all the relevant information and files were scattered over many different threads and topics. I'm just collating it all here to hopefully make it easier for the next person to find.
Background info: I'm technically competent but relatively new to phone modding - I've only rooted my HTC E8 before this to remove bloatware. This is my second project. I live in HK and started with a completely stock OEM Note4 N910SKSU2DPK2 after a factory reset. I then did the steps below in order (not including many failed attempts and re-starts, of course) These are just the broadstrokes of what I did, if you need to know how to do each step in detail then please search the forum. It's quite clear and there's no need for me to repeat it here anyway
As it's my first post and I'm in a rush to leave the house soon, I have not bothered with screenshots or links - I'm happy to provide if someone can tell me if the preferred method is link to the thread where the info was found, or you just want a link to the files I used. Again, they were all found through links in threads on xda anyway but I'll have to spend some time to find them again as I didn't bookmark them. Also, if you want the files someone will have to tell me how to upload them here. The filenames/packages are given in [brackets] so maybe you can just search for them?
0. Reminder to backup your phone and data first!
1. Root - was really easy using CF AutoRoot [CF-Auto-Root-trelteskt-trelteskt-smn910s] Just download to your PC and package includes Odin, which for first-timers is the official Samsung software used to flash to your phone.
2. Download:
- ClockWorkMod [n910s-cwm-recovery-6.0.5.1(1113).tar]
- SuperSU [SuperSU-v2.79-201612051815.zip]
- C Mod ROM [C_ROM_N910s.v2HNY.zip] (the site is Korean-based but google translate of the page was enough for a non-Korean like myself)
- N910S DPK2 modem file [N910S-20170114T050808Z.zip] The original thread had links to every modem variant they knew of, so should work with other S/L/K variants BUT of course I haven't tried them.
3. Copy files for SuperSU, CMod ROM, and DPK2 modem onto an external SD card and insert into your phone.
4. Put your phone into Download Mode (from power-off state, hold Vol Down + Home + Power)
5. Run Odin on your PC, connect phone. On Odin, click <AP> and select CWM file. Do not check or modify any other options. Click <Start> to flash CWM recovery to your phone.
6. Once it's done, disconnect from PC, and restart your phone into the new custom recovery mode (from power-off state, hold Vol Up + Home + Power)
7. Choose Install from zip and select the SuperSU file from your ext SD card. (I think this step may not be strictly necessary as it's part of CF AutoRoot, but SuperSU is always handy to have anyway)
8. Reboot into Recovery mode again (available in Advanced menu)
9. Install zip - now choose the CMod ROM file. Reboot into system and have a look around the new UI. It was at this stage that I noticed two things: my HK carrier SIM was not recognised, and as the ROM boasts some Note 5 features the Always On Display function would cause my Note 4 to not be able to wake up once the screen was turned off (manually or via time-out). I had to pull out the battery, restart phone, go straight into Settings -> Display and turn off the Always On Display functionality.
10. To fix the SIM card not recognised, reboot into Recovery Mode again and Install zip - choose the DPK2 modem file (or whichever version your phone's modem is). Restart phone, wait a few minutes and SIM should now work.
*ONE REMAINING ISSUE* Even tho my SIM is 4G/LTE, it seems to be connecting at HSUPA only. Could be reception, I'll check later. But I believe there's a way to select different LTE bands through secret codes or menu, not sure but I'll try that as well later and update if it works.
That's it - hope it helps! Thanks for reading, and don't forget I'm new to this AND a first time poster so be kind in comments/questions please

So by following steps in this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/help/note-4-sm-n910s-sk-telecom-issues-t2929571/page2 for SKT, I was able to change to LTE Band 3 or 7 (which is what my sim provider offers) and get an LTE signal for data, BUT then I lose voice call functionality. If I choose Band 3 Preferred, it says band changed success, but just connects via HSUPA and I get voice, but no LTE (just like before, or if I choose Automatic)
Can anyone please help me figure this out? How can I get voice AND LTE? Many thanks in advance!
PS - also after I reflashed my modem.bin the baseband changed from N910SKSU2DPK2 to N910SKSU0DPK2. I don't know what this means nor if it has anything to do with the problem I've described above? Can anyone help to explain? Thanks...

Band 3 and 7 are supposed to stick with default settings. I tried it once during my trip to Malaysia and it worked flawlessly. Any chance you might want to contact your carrier?
The trick to switch from 4G-3G-4G works. ATT band 5 preferred

Have you tried switching to 3g only, then switching it back to 4g when available in your phone setting??
I had similar issue with 4g and apparently, this strangely simple trick solved my problem.
Anyway, I tried to download the ROM from the Achonapp but took me ages and I couldn't flash it either. May I know where you got the ROM from?

Tried your suggestion but now it shows No Service
*update* actually I think your "trick" works... After switching to 3G only, it wouldn't switch back to 4G and showed No Service. I rebooted the phone with a different sim and after a few minutes, it automatically connected to 4G AND I now have voice as well! So, all is working properly now and I'm a happy camper. Reboot with the original sim and still works and connects to 4G. So I think you're right it just needed to be "forced" to select 4G preferred. Thanks for the tip!
Yeah I got it from achonapp as well and it took a while - I think I left it going overnight. But the ROM did work for me. If anyone wants the file direct I'm happy to put it up on my google drive if it's not against forum rules etc.
But since then I've switched to miui8 which is also working pretty much flawlessly as daily ROM, but I haven't tested every single little feature of course. If you wanna try it - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70596588&postcount=797

No Cellular Service

My Nexus 6P has begun to periodically lose all cellular service (Verizon LTE) for no apparent reason. If I reboot the phone, service is restored. Turning airplane mode on and off doesn't help.
My phone is currently running Android 7.0 build NBD91V with the most recent patch on 12/5/16.
Has anyone else seen this problem or know how to fix it?

It's a known issue. If you Google it you’ll find others including myself with the same problem.

The OP of that link is on Project Fi and on different carriers than you so it may not be a complete match with your issue. The new January update N4F26J is designated specifically for Verizon devices and includes a new baseband version (radio 03.79). The radio apparently resolves some issues specific to your carrier- so I would start there. Update your phone and confirm you are on the new radio. If it was working fine earlier, you may also want to try reverting to an earlier radio from a time when your phone was working normally. I would also recommend trying LTE Discovery. The free version has most functionality you would need to identify all the towers in your area, what bands are available and the signal strength of each. Good luck. :good:
So I had an interesting experience with the same thing. Was running a custom rom that is very close to stock and updated to the most recent security update. Shortly thereafter, my carrier connection would drop (didn't notice at first because if I was connected to WiFi, it would be hard to tell). Only a reboot of the phone would fix it, for often no more than an hour or 2. So I started by wiping the device. Then I went to a different custom rom. And then finally, I went back to stock using "flash-all.bat" from the factory image. But alas, the issue continued. The last thing I did, which seems to have resolved it so far (12+ hours without a disconnection), was to relock my bootloader. Just in case it helps someone else. Is it possible that the new radio + an unlocked bootloader is causing the issue?

S8 Active SM G892U, was Sprint, unlocked and on T-Mobile. Sprint Update broke Volte

Hi,
I have a Samsung S8 Active G892U which I bought used as an unlocked phone. It's clear it was originally a Sprint phone, but I have been using it with no problems on T-Mobile USA. It was running firmware G892USQS3BRI1 until today
Today I was prompted to install the latest software update ( G892USQS3BSA1 - this was clearly a Sprint update; it appears my phone is still getting Sprint updates, which makes sense, as it has Sprint firmware).
There was a warning on the Software update screen that the update would stop Volte working, and I would therefore no longer be able to access data while in a phone call. I (foolishly!!) assumed this would not affect me as I was on T-Mobile. I regularly use data while on the phone, so I know there was no issue with this previously.
The upgrade has completed, and I can no use data while making a call (I am in a LTE area at the moment). There is no sign of any option to enable or disable Volte anywhere in the settings menus
I did try going into Settings->Connections->Mobile Networks and changing Network Mode from "Automatic" to "LTE/CMDA." (as various forums indicated that doing that would provide a menu where I could re-enable volte)
This made the situation worse - I could no longer make calls. I have changed back to 'Automatic' , and can make calls again, but still loose data connectivity when making a call.
Is there any way I can restore my previous ability to use data while calling?
I am wondering:
a) If there is a way to renable Volte without reflashing the phone (that would be preferred)
b) If I do flash the phone, what would be the best firmware to go to - Sprint (presumably the previous version), T-Mobile or something custom (I'm clearly concerned about bricking the phone here)
c) It's several years since I've found myself re-flashing a phone - I see lots of references to "Odin" as the tool to use - is that correct, and could someone point me to the best guide on using it?
Thanks in advance..
You can flash the Sprint latest firmware over the current firmware and I think that should do the trick because I did it and so far so good but proceed with caution I have no experience in dirty flashing but as long as you just stick to the AP file and don't load the bootloader etc I think you should be safe from bricking because as far as I know when the boot loader is gone you can't repair anything

phone says there's LTE service, but disconnects when making a call and cannot receive/send texts

I installed the latest lineageOS 19 version, rooted my phone then ran into this problem where the phone says i have service, but when i place a call it wont fully make the call. Then my mobile data will X out and i get pop up error saying mobile service is unavailable. I then tried lineageOS 18.1 and arrowOS and same problem persists.
formating between installs obviously.
I have looked at every option on this phone and tried combinations and everything in the network/system/ everything and still not working.
The process was actually very simple since i have some programming experience. Other sources mention possible baseband issues? On the fastboot screen it shows a baseband version. all the information there appears normal. I only flashed the boot image one time to root and didn't mess with any other manual flashing processes. Just used twrp. I didn't quite understand twrp at first and therefore didn't get a backup using it... iused adb to make a backup which apparently didn't work so Im lost and hope someone could help me out here. please and thank you!
If i may add I can use mobile data just fine, i can browse the internet and such (with wifi off and data on only) so i really dont understand. Is this a normal issue to have when using custom roms? did I trip some security that blocked me now? any input???
I wonder, though, this moto g7 is an A/B partition thing. so if i understand correctly, flashing twrp would not work and thus why i did not do that. it makes sense. But should i try flashing it, booting into it then installing lineage? even if i did i feel like that would give me same issue considering the method i followed got me into lineageos, plus root checker said i was rooted.
What I can tell you is what I had to do in order to get LTE (voice calls) running on my G7 - I was forced to switch over to LTE because AT&T turned off 3G here in the US and 4G without LTE is not good enough for voice calls:
Get the latest stock firmware and install it using e.g. Lenovo's "Rescue And Smart Assistant". That will get Motorola's Android 10 on the phone.
After installation, go through setup and actually make a call (calling your mailbox is fine). Then check your ims status (*#*#4636#*#*, goto phone info, pull ims status) to see that ims is actually working.
Shutdown the phone and start installing LOS (use the partition copy script too to make sure that the partitions not touched by LOS installation are updated "on the other flash bank").
Go through LOS setup, select a valid APN for your setup, set "LTE only" or "LTE / WCDMA" for the network and make a call. You should be good to go.
Again this is what I had to do to get LTE working with AT&T USA. YMMW.
Markus.
I know this is way late, and you probably already figured it out. I didn't share the no text problem. The Problem isn't just the "LTE" setting itself. There is one more option(some Roms show it, some don't) I believe its in the phone app settings? VOLTE must be checked. I have noticed Some Roms do have this option and some don't. when volte is checked, it'll keep your data/internet on during a call, some Roms that option won't show up or isn't available. I haven't used G7 in a while, but I do remember the problem and how to fix (on my phone anyway).
