An Odyssey to make a Sprint GS4 work properly - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hi and greetings from Greece,
I've got a big problem with an unlocked Sprint SG4 NG2 , I've tried numerous ROMs and I cannot get it to work properly with networks in Greece.
When I first got it, it worked like a charm with its stock ROM but a few weeks later it was losing the sound and mic, with restarting it fixed that issue but needed many restarts per day.
So I flashed it with an excellent Russian MIUI ROM to find sound was also going off and on randomly...
I then flashed it with a few ROMs of JDC Team and later on a few CM ROMS to find the same sound and mic issue, while almost in every ROM at first it worked like a charm.
Now it is on CM12.1. At first I couldn't get incoming calls, but everything else worked fine including the sound and mic, tested it for a few days no issues on the sound, I was thinking I will definitely solve this problem finally!
I finally applied the fix from the no incoming calls thread but now again its losing the sound, usually in the morning and noon, not at night (weird!).
Is there anything I can do to make it work? Does anyone has experience with this issue on a NG2? Will if I flashed it with another radio solve this problem?
Please reply here or pm me! Thanks alot!

No Signal/No Data Suddenly on Dash 3G (T-Mobile/Ookba 3VOLUTION ROM)

Hello all. It seems as though I've come across a pretty serious issue with my Dash 3G. I have been using Ookba's 3VOLUTION ROMs for some time now and over the weekend, my phone suddenly stopped being able to make/receive any calls. I re-flashed the phone to the latest 3VOLUTION ROM (04/10/10 build) and it hasn't fixed the issue. I've put the SIM into another phone and it works perfectly, so I know it's not a bad SIM card. I don't know of any software settings that can persist like this (after a ROM flash). Furthermore, why it happened suddenly is totally beyond me. Does anyone have any suggestions I can try? This is terrible timing as I just had a job interview and I need to keep my "ears open" for a possible callback.
Thanks guys!
Bump - anyone have any suggestions?

Can't hear people on the headset

I've been having this problem where I can't hear anyone on the handset. When the person answers the call, I can hear maybe two or three seconds worth, but it's completely garbled and broken up, as though I'm in a bad reception area, and then it goes silent. But I can hear them perfectly fine if I switch to speakerphone or use the handsfree headset! The people on the other side can hear me too.
It all started a few days ago. I had just installed the Phoenix kernel for MIUI. It was working fine for a while, and then all of a sudden this started happening. At first I thought maybe it was something to do with the Phoenix kernel, so I just reflashed MIUI. No factory reset yet. Just wanted the original kernel back. Still the same. So then I thought maybe I'll try a different ROM altogether and went to CM7. Same problem. Finally, I put in a stock recovery and went to stock 407. Same problem there as well!! DSC v1.0, same problem!! Now I'm back to CM7, and yes, same problem! Not sure what else I can try. I seriously hope it's not some hardware issue. Any suggestions as to what to try next would be appreciated!

[Resolved] No Audio in calls

Ok I'm not a complete newb but I can't figure this out and its been driving me nuts for over a week now...
SGH-1337M (Rogers)
Up until last week I'd been running the nightly builds of CyanogenMod and loving it, the phone was fast had lots of functionality then I did a nightly upgrade and my phone stopped working. Incoming calls would ring but when I picked up the call I couldn't hear the caller and they couldn't hear me. After much frustration I ended up flashing back to stock. This fixed the problem but the phone was useless as far as I was concerned for everything but making phone calls. It was laggy, I couldn't listen to music (it was staticy) and just generally full of all of the extraneous crud that Rogers seemed to think I should have on my phone. (I honestly couldn't suggest the phone to anyone who was going to run it as a stock device if this was how it came out of the box!)
Now On Sunday I decided to try again and after setting everything back to defaults I reloaded Cyanogen and at first it seemed that things were working properly... until last night. Again I got a call and when I answered it there was no audio.
I can't figure it out, I'm running the correct radio now after flashing to stock (I337MVLUAMG1) but I just can't seem to get it to work and stay working. Besides Cyanogen I'm only running two other "root" apps Fantastic audio installer and AdAway.
Any suggestions would be great, I just can't go back to stock on this phone...
Any ideas?
I think I have the problem figured out...
Seems like it was a combination of a bad build of CM and the "Fantastic Audio Installer"
Beware of compatibility issues with apps like this...

[Q]i9505 periodic no sound and mic problem

Hello,
i've found some threads here with similar problems but they all were a result of wrong baseband used after a custom rom installation.
BUT i bought a i9505 with stock 4.4.2 TW rom UGNG8 (not rooted). At some point i noticed that the phone loses sound and mic completly. Sometimes can take a call but with no sound, neather can the caller hear me, no sound from music/video player and no system sounds eather(not even with headphones plugged in). Everything goes back to normal after a reboot.
I figured it was an outdated baseband so i rooted the device, updated the baseband to the latest (UGNK4) and installed CM12. But the problem is still here. At random times the device loses all sound and only a reboot fixes it
Haven't been able to reproduce the exact moment when it happen as it seem to be completly random (gets really anoying when i need to take an important call and there is no sound )
I could really use some help with this
Cheers,
H.
Rule of thumb: If it happens across multiple roms then it is most probably a hardware issue.
I'd suggest flashing the stock rom back and see if it helps.
Make sure it's the stock rom for the country where the phone was initially bought.
For instance: If the phone was bought from Germany but you're using it in England, it is still a German version of the S4 and therefor needs the German version.

thanks for the reply, i will try the stock firmware, maybe i missed something in the process earlier, and post back the results.
cheers,
H.
Fixed!
ok, after a lot of trial and error i narrowed it down to a hardware issue. The headphone jack was the thing making all the problems. i tried cleaning it but it didnt help, so i removed it. Device works flawless now. Already ordered a new jack. :good:
So to anyone having a similar issue -replacing (or just removing) the headphone jack does the trick.
Cheers,
H.
