Hello, forum!
Just to cap my recent event... I purchased the ext. batt. for my Droid X yesterday. I put it in the back of my phone with the ext. batt. door. I put the phone in my Otterbox Defender Series. I understand that the case says that it does not work with the extended battery. Obviously, I didn't realize this until this morning. I never had to "force" the Otterbox together, though. It just went together like a charm.
The first thing that I noticed this morning was a bubble that would appear near the center of my screen when pressure is applied. Everything works. Touch still works in these areas. It's not visible until it has pressure on it. I just know that some screens can have the ripple bubble and be fine... While in others, it means trouble...
Now... Will this be an issue that will become worse and cause major problems? Or will it remain the same and I will just have a bubble when I press the screen. If it stays the same as it is now, I will be fine. The bubble isn't large at all. I just don't want it to suddenly crack and explode into a world of chaos. LOL!
Thanks!
-Dustin
Also... Any suggestions, comments, and opinions are always welcomed. Tell me what you would do. I appreciate the help and input from others.
I just ordered the extended battery with cover and I already have the defender series OtterBox. I'm glad I read this and I will report back my experience as soon as it arrives. Also, I have read elsewhere that people who have problems with this combination have just left the battery cover off since it's completely protected by an OtterBox anyway and have had no problems.
Yeah... I removed the door and used the Otterbox as its back. It hasn't completely removed the bubble. However, it appears that it has improved. It is barely visible now and seems to require more pressure. I'm gonna keep tinkering with it and see what results I can gather. Maybe we can figure something out. Thanks!

Just to update... I placed my X in the Otterbox without the battery door a couple of hours ago. The bubble has definitely gotten better. It wasn't instant, but it progressed to a better state. The battery, door, and Otterbox were together for about 8 hours before I picked it up and found the bubble. Maybe the pressure messed it up for awhile, but now that the pressure has been lightened... Maybe it will basically "fix" itself... ???... Hopefully I can post even better news about it later today. Either way, I just want everyone to dodge this issue or at least help them with the issue.
Thanks again!

My gf had that dot in middle of her Droid x, she took her otterbox off lastnight, this morning the dot was gone.
She said even if she had it off for a little bit the dot would still be there. Must take a few hours for it to stretch back out.
That being said, I squeezed the side of the phone with my hand and the dot reappeared until I let go...

The good news... I have to use way above the normal pressure to get the bubble to appear. That's pretty much with any screen on any device.
The results...
The Otterbox defender series says it WILL NOT work with the extended battery. If you remove the battery door and just use the extended battery, the Otterbox and phone are fine. The added door will create too much pressure. The Otterbox holds the battery well enough and still gives it room to expand as it heats up from normal use.
The screen has fixed itself and I no longer carry a worry about it. That's a huge plus.
I hope that this has helped someone out there. If anyone has questions or comments, please feel free to throw them at me. Post it here or send me a PM. I will help as much as I can.
THANKS!

Pretty good summary. I just got the Moto ext battery today (cover is coming separately). I put it in and the regular cover on just to see for myself and it fit ok, but any pressure gave the screen a big ripple effect. I took the cover off and put it on my OB Defender series with no battery cover and it requires excessive pressure to get any rippling so that'll work for me.

My GF doesn't have the extended battery but is still getting the bubble of the middle of the screen from the otterbox. Any possible fixes, or defective case?

So far, I have had no complaints on my end. It's working great! I was worried at first, but everything is going well. So you should be fine. If you do run into anything, please let me know and I will try to help you.

I have had my case for awhile... I never had an issue with it prior to my extended battery. One suggestion... Have you tried having the case on the phone without the battery door on the back of the phone? Other than that... When you place the case on the phone, try to see if it makes any unusual contact with the phone or other half of the case. I will check my phone out when I get a better break and see if I can gather more. Let me know your results if you try anything.

I would suggest a steady hand and a dremial tool. I know that will void the warranty on your box, but by moding your box you can use the door that came with the exstended battery. The only thing is, the silicone wrap will bump out a bit. Just a suggestion

Hi All.
Thanks for a great forum!
I was fortunate enough to recieve my Pearl White SGS3 in the beginning of the month, I know others here in Denmark are still waiting...
I love this mobile, and have tuned it quite a bit already - root, cwm, new kernel to improve battery times, etc.... really one of the best Android devices I've ever had...
I further have ordered the OtterBox defender case for my SGS3, but won't get it untill next week I'm told...
Anyway, to get to the point of the topic:
I have thus (in the meanwhile) been using a cheap cover (China make I think) - leather like outside and with a nylon type 'pull-out' strap (see pictures)
After using this cover for about 2 1/2 weeks (from the first day I got the mobile) I noticed a discoloring of the back cover. Front is fine - no problem...
Backcover really looks bad now, I'm sure I will get a replacement, but I was just wanting to share my experience, and warn that there may be a serious fault in the way the back cover is 'painted'/produced - all the more reason I now see why the SGS3 blue version may have been delayed - due to similar issue with the blue backcover. Maybe the blue backcover is fixed, not to cause any problems...
So a word of advice - make sure you invest in a good case - if you want to try to avoid having to replace the original white SGS3 backcover, and then again, just be aware of a possible 'wear-and-tear' problem.
Also, I'm just wondering if others have experienced similar discoloration/tainting issues.
Still waiting for my OtterBox to arrive, I actually went out and purchased a screen protector and silicone case, in black - just as the OtterBox I have ordered...
I think the pearl white SGS3 and a black cover will look great!

Super... I hadn't seen this thread, my problem exactly.
Thanks.
Ok. I'm begining to feel that this device simply doesn't love me at all.
I got my first N7. The next day, I was walking (my N7 was in my bag)and the leash of my bag was cut (for unknow reasons). Bag goes down, N7 screen cracks. I had no case for it...
Same day, I'm buying a new one since I couldn't find any spare parts at this time. With my new N7 I bought an HTC-Flyer Case since it was the only one which could fit the N7. (No N7 cases available in Greece yet...). I thought I could wait until spare parts become available, fix the first one and sell it.
1 week after I bought the second N7, I was holding 10 cm above a table. I repeat, 10, maybe 15 centimeters, above a table and I w Sas reading an e-book. Suddenly, my, second, N7 slips from my hands, drops on the table with the lower left corner and the screen broke more than the first one.
Ok. Now I get it, This thing is very sensitive. F*ck you Asus for doing it like that because I've dropped my TF101 a few times and still working like a charm.
The thing, now, is that I can't find any spare parts and I'll not buy a third N7.
Does anyone know where can I find spare screen to repair them? I've found this site but it's always out of stock.
Please guys, I am begging for your help!
Thanks in advance.

You blame Asus?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Yep... ASUS is supposed to be there to catch the device when it falls.
Most devices break when you drop them without a decent case. Nothing new there.
Don't drop your stuff?
Of course I am not blaming Asus. I was the one who dropped the device (at least the second time) I am the one to blame.
What I wrote about Asus is just for making me feel a little better and not that I crash every N7 I get my hands on. Nothing more. Maybe it was a mistake to write that about them. I apologize if I must.
Any chance, now, you know where I can take a spare screen?

To drop one N7 is careless, to drop two N7s marks you out as clumsy and, yes, you are blaming Asus for your clutziness.
Worse, you are trying to crowd source information you could easily source yourself.
In this post from you we see Greece and why it has an ex-economy
Hey, come to think of it .. where did you get the Drachma for two N7s ?:laugh:
I do sympathize since I have two iPads which are used mainly by two kids of 3 and 2 years of age. As you can imagine, they've dropped them from various angles and heights (one even took a tumble down a whole flight of stairs.
Neither of them have a scratch on them. They were protected by a silicone/tpu case from day one.

I've searched a lot around the Internet and I couldn't find anything. That's why I asked here. Obviously a big mistake...
Second I wish we had drachma again, but that's an other conversation which I am not willing to do here.
I know I'm clumsy. But N7 is the first device so sensitive to my clumsiness. Looks like I'm not built for this device...
Thanks again.

The screen is basically all one unit, so you can't just get the glass. It looks to be easy to replace however. I would imagine there will be parts available soon from other parties like other devices as well as replacement batteries etc...
Probably a little soon still.
There are of course official sources for parts, but I don't know if ASUS is making them available (not had an ASUS device before).
Google search turned up:

The latter is a bit pricy, didn't check into the first one.
If you're accident prone and you don't plan to get a case for it perhaps consider this variation:

Ohh...
Yeah, those kinds of cases aren't really the best to protect from fall damage
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
There were other reports by people claiming the screen itself is easier to damage. I think I recall someone saying they had their screen split just from normal usage...
In any case, I dropped my SGT7 from a few feet onto a carpet, and nothing happened. I haven't had my N7 fall any distance yet, and I played games like osu!droid, which causes me to press pretty rapidly and hard on the screen, and nothing happened to it (yet), so idk...
In any case, it's safe to say dropping your Nexus 7, or most devices for that matter can cause some pretty bad physical damage
Mine cracked too! Really dont even know how, just saw a cracl amd now my touch screen will not work.. any advice please!

Hey guys...this is my first post in here, so please go easy on me. So, i have been in love with The nexus 7 since the day it was released. I have seen all kind of videos/reviews and thought that it is a perfect fit for me. But what i'm scared about is the durability of Nexus 7's screen. I have been hovering over Xda and specially in the Nexus 7 forum and found a lot of criticism regarding its screen cracks and poor build quality.
The thing is I live in Bangladesh, where i wont be able to enjoy any warranties or guarantees(actually I will get a one-day replacement warranty and that's it). Also, it is highly likely that i wont find the necessary equipment to fix it myself. I found only a single case cover for the Nexus which is the poetic brand slimline(Is that any good ? ). Nexus 7 16Gb version costs around $320 here
All this makes me doubt to purchase the awesome gadget and rather settle for the sub-standard Galaxy tab 2 7.0 3G which costs around the same.
But then again...i feel like I wont be able to happily enjoy any other set as i have been in love with Nexus 7 for the last 6 months. So, as u guys can seen that i'm real in pickle. So any advice will go a long way for me. Is Nexus 7 really worth the risk ?
Thanks.
Just don't drop it, any screen can crack that way. Also get a screen protector, the glass does scratch relatively easy.
Fun story. I got an 8gb nexus from the first batch that were made. But I don't currently live in the US, so I ran a huge gamble by ordering one and having my family send it out to me in Asia. Worked *perfectly* until I went back to the US for Thanksgiving. Then, somehow, I blew out the speaker. I was able to get in touch with Google and get it swapped out in under a week, returned to Asia with my new 8GB (no magic upgrade, drat) and we've been happy ever since.
I don't think it's really any risk. The majority who complain about the nexus are a minority of the owners.
Also keep in mind you will hear more horror stories from pissed off owners than stories of folks reporting zero issues

Well that is true and reassuring.
I'd say go for it. As for screen cracking for "no reason", I always wonder just how much truth there is to those stories. I've been perfectly happy with my nexus 7, and it has none of the "so common" problems.

My friend got his 16gig N7 the day it came out and has had zero hardware issues with it. Gotta give credit to magiconthetire as well, he hit the nail on the head. When things go wrong it's the end of the world. But when things go right, you won't even know anything is happening at all.
Also I picked up the Poetic Slim case you mentioned and I really like it. The only draw back is how close the case comes to the bezel on the edges of the screen; if you have big hands or don't hit the bottom navigation bar or top notification bar at the right angle...the case sort of gets in the way. My solution to that is using a stylus for more accurate precision. The stylus also makes typing significantly easier, especially if you use gesture typing such as Swype, SwiftKey Flow, etc.
OP if you know someone you trust in Europe, USA, or even Australia. Get them to buy the tablet for you and ship it out to you. Even with shipping it will be a lot less than $320, if it breaks for something that is under warranty send it back to them and they can return it for repairs.
Cheers Danny

I've only had mine for a couple of weeks and so far no issues here. This is under pretty heavy use as well, as I take my Nexus 7 with me everywhere that I go. The case works really well though, it has a snug fit on the N7 so it doesn't move around inside of it at all, the smart cover that turns the screen on when you open the flap back has worked flawlessly, the hand strap for the back is really nice for using it in portrait mode while laying in bed or for just holding it up during prolonged periods, and the landscape stand is a little tricky to figure out at fist...but works just fine once you figure it out. I'd recommend some kind of sound toggle app for your notification bar as well, because the case does make it a bit of a pain to reach the physical buttons. But that's not really Poetic's fault, the way the buttons angle down with the curve of the backside of the tablet makes them kind of annoying for any case that doesn't have the same slope on it.
As far as stylus' go, I heard good things about this one and it was still fairly cheap...I just got it in the mail a couple of days ago but so far, so good:

Asus have international warranty for it.
Beamed from my Maguro.
If you ever want to buy a case throughout the internet I'd be more than happy to help a fellow owner out and re-ship to you!
I don't want to persuade you not to get one because I love the n7 and think everyone should have one, but i just broke my second one. My daughter dropped the first one and the corner of the screen shattered. I didn't have insurance because I've never dropped or lost a phone or laptop or anything, so it cost full price to replace it.
I had the second one in my back pocket, bent down, and screwed up the screen. My pants aren't tight but my butt put a little bit of leverage on the middle of the screen and broke it. When I turned it on later, the screen has a discolored line through it and a pattern of random lines on each side and no normal picture. The screen glass didn't crack, but the screen internals must have. I paid $50 for insurance so I hope it will be replaced with no hassle.
Long story short, I'll never use an n7 without a protective case again, and I've never used a case on any device.
Thanks a lot guys....I have taken all the advice into consideration and have found a satisfying solution. Gonna wait three months and buy through a friend in US.

I just have some questions that I'd like to get answered. Didn't really want to make different threads for each questions so I'll just put any questions I have here. Thanks in advance!
1. I currently have a ls980 running justinswidebody's T-Mobile rom. I was wondering if there was a way to flash a new rom but keep all my apps and accounts. Every time I switch between the tmo rom and the stock rom the apps I had on the tmo rom disappear. Is there a way for the apps to just stay regardless of what rom I flash?
2. I bought my g2 used off eBay and the seller describe as mint condition. When the phone arrived the screen had two scratches and the back had some weird scuffs. Couldn't return it because he stated no returns on the sale page and I don't feel like going through PayPal to get my money back. One scratch is rather deep though thankfully it is that long. The deep scratch is part of a longer shallower scratch. The deep part is deep enough the the colors get distorted when looking directing at the scratch. Sometimes I can even see the scratch when the screen is on! So my question is, is there anything that I can do to get rid of the scratches? Maybe something to fill in the scratches? Will a glass screen protector hide these scratches?
3. I love the feel of the naked g2's screen, but can't bare to have it damaged further. What are some good screen protectors that I should use? What do people rash on the feel of zagg Sp's? Are zaggs as bad as some say? I'm trying to keep the screen protector to around $10. Are skinomi Sp's good?
4. Are there any free or cheap (less than $2) apps or roms that allow autohide for the nav bar? I'm currently using auto hide soft keys, but I have to pay around $4 to access some of the better options. Also not a huge fan of having a trigger that brings the nag bar up. Would love to be able to just swipe up and have the nav bar come up.
5. What options do buying the $.99 package for the g2 closed app give me? Is it worth it?
6. My g2 also has a bad ESN so I won't be able to use it on any domestic carrier so I was going to use text plus and karma WiFi as my new 'carrier'. Are there any downsides to using a free call and text app as my primary phone?
If I get anymore questions I'll add them here. Thanks for reading!
