5GHz wireless networks not available - possible bug? - BlackBerry Priv

I have an asus AC router that has 3 radios, one 2.4 and two 5 GHz ones... each setup with a unique SSID.
my PRIV (carrier free unlocked, i.e no carrier branding/software) only shows the 2.4 G wireless sSID - 5G doesn't appear at all even on refresh.
if i go into Advanced setting and choose 5G only as WiFi Frequency Band, nothing changes, as still only the 2.4 GHz ssids are shown, and it also appears the change is setting doesn't seem to stick - if i go back, wifi band selection is back to automatic.
I'm on the latest firmware from BB (Build AAD250)

Which carrier are you with? I also have an unlocked Priv, but mine doesn't have this: AAD250 build.

Where is wifi N?????

Videos for the htc desire show it with wifi N and the spec sheets show wifi N. Does anybody know if any G2 tear downs show that it does infact have the hardware to run N? Are the devs working on enabling this?

Yes it does. I have wifi n at home connects just fine.

I have tried wifi n at two differ locations.. my gf doesn't pick it either and neither does my friend's g2. What we doing wrong? Our laptops pick up the band easily.

Wifi N can run on either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz. The G2 only supports 2.4 GHz, but many people run their N routers on 5 GHz to avoid the congestion on 2.4GHz.
You need to go to Menu-Settings-Wireless & Networks -Than Wi-Fi Settings to connect to nearby networks. I noticed when I turned on the wi-fi at first it did not connect right away. You need to view the wireless networks in order to connect. Once you connect it automatically saves. So each time you turn on your wi-fi it connects automatically.

It took me forever to figure this out with my N1. I went through all of the trouble of reconfiguring my router to use N on 2.4GHz, and it didn't make much of a difference anyway. Went back to 2.4GHz for b/g and 5GHz for N (my router has 2 radios).
I actually get a faster/better connection over HSPA+ (up and down) than I get through my router and cable modem.
Most dual band routers running both b/g and n will only allow n to run on the 5ghz band. You can only switch frequencies if your router is running the n band alone.

[Q] Focus doesnt find wireless-n network!!

On the specs it says the phone supports wireless n (802.11n), but when i go to settings and search for networks it wont show my local wireless n network, is it the phone or just wp7 that currently doesn't support wireless n?!
No problem with wireless N here. But WP7 doesn't support hidden networks. Make sure your wireless network is visible. Also not clear is whether or not the phone can connect to 5GHz band.

This is one of those unusual known software issues. The phone is capable of n, but the mediocre wifi software/interface the the phone is packaged with has no options to enable it. This is set to be a first round fix. Chalk this up there with the no hidden SSID's support right now.
There is no good reason as to why your phone cannot do this now and you probably could go into the diagnosis panel and figure it out, but that is not the users responsibility.
MS must have a great reason, but it is not readily apparent.
Yeah my router does 2.4ghz G & N plus 5ghz N; so it connects but it would be nice to know what it is connecting at. I am sure it doesn't do 5ghz because that ssid is not found as an option but it would be nice to know it is connecting to the N 2.4 and not the G.
It doesn't support 5ghz N. I had to change my router back to 2.4.

Or you can just let it connect to 2.4 11g instead. There is no benefit for it to be in 11n other than burn your battery faster.
My router is set on 5ghz wireless n, so i guess that's why the phone cant show the ssid.

[Q] Widget to toggle 5ghz/2.4ghz

Hiya folks I am hunting a widget to toggle between 5ghz and 2.4ghz, I am running a Carbon Rom and my router supports dual although my lovely Nexus will only connect to my 2.4 network if on auto, I have to use advance settings in wifi and select 5ghz only, so I would like to turn on 5ghz whilst at home at a flick off a switch!
cheers all43
I have a dual band router, and it has 2 separate SSID's - one for 2.4 GHz and one for 5 GHz. Can you just "forget" the 2.4 GHz network on your phone, or do you only see one network?
My 2.4 has better range (of course not speed) and all my 'other' wifi spots out and about are 2.4 only, also when in auto network my Nexus only sees 2.4ghz.
Edit
Bad manners...forgot to say thank you for your reply.

Wi-Fi connectivity issues

Somewhat of an odd issue with Wi-FI
First the phone is a 100% stock (unrooted) Sprint issued Galaxy S5.
Access point is a Cisco 1142 in Autonomous mode running 802.11n (2.4 & 5ghz with a 40Mhz extended channel in the 5Ghz band). Both IPv4 and IPv6 (utilizing auto configure) are on my network.
Three laptops report up to 300Mb/s connectivity and work flawlessly
Three iPhones work without any issues
Two iPads (Wi-Fi only) also work without issue
Galaxy S3 work without issue
HTC EVO work without issue
The Galaxy S5 connects and works fine for a random period of time, seems to be typically between 1 and 3 hrs and then simply stops communicating, I've tried a static (IPv4) address but to no avail. Sometimes I'll find that only the IPv4 stops working but IPv6 continues to work or vis versa.
One thing I did note was the S5 never reports a speed higher than 144Mb/s regardless of the signal strength. I haven't tried disabling the extended channel on the 5Ghz band, maybe the S5 has a problem with that?
Lastly connecting to an 802.11g AP seems to work reliably.
Any thoughts/suggestions? I'm not opposed to rooting the phone if there is a known issue that is solved by modified code.

Tried disabling Smart Network Switch in WiFi settings?
Should have mentioned that -
Under Wi-Fi advanced
Network notification - unchecked
passpoint - checked
sort by - signal strength
keep wi-fi on during sleep - always
always allow scanning - unchecked
smart network switch - unchecked
Wi-Fi timer - all times unchecked

The access point "had" two SSIDs being announced, I took one off and the stability problems seem to have gone away, now to figure out if I'm announcing the second SSID incorrectly or something else is going on.

It's a Cisco 1142 AP (1140 series) in Autonomous mode, 2.4/5Ghz 802.11n, Per Cisco's glossy - "The 1140 Series is a dual-band, 802.11n access point with integrated antennas."

You might have the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band named the same then.

You might be onto something, based upon what I've found and my understanding of Wi-Fi there should be no issue with putting the same SSID on both radios; however I've found that the S5 seems to be switching back and forth a lot and is failing whenever its on the 5Ghz radio. I have since turned off the 5Ghz radio (of course that reduces my throughput to 144Mb/s on Wi-Fi vs 300 but I doubt I'll see a difference).
I've seen some various comments about 5Ghz not working properly for some, I don't know if this is a real issue or not.
Also keep in mind my 5Ghz radio was set for a double wide channel (40Mhz vs. the small 20Ghz) enabling 300Mb/s.

There's no issue until you have a device(such as the s5) that sees both bands, people do this with public WiFi as well, they put up a malicious hotspot with the same name as the public one. I would give your 5g band a different name that's what I do, its just said for 2.4 and ssid-5G for the 5.

Can I force ZenPad to connect to 2.4 mhz network

I need to set up a smart device but have to be on 2.4, my router broadcasts in both 2.4 & 5. The tablet always connects to the 5.
Give your 2.4 and 5.0 GHz bands different names (SSIDs), then connect to the one you want.

Unfortunately the router won't allow that. I have a Netgear Orbi mesh system, I shut off the satellite's to help cut down the signals.
