Hi. I have xperia sp.
It has the worst 8MP camera i'v ever seen.
images and videos are always grainy no matter what light conditions are.
every image has noise. its quality is equivalent to some 2MP shooter.
Is any one experiencing same issue? Is this software issue or hardware??
Please help me. after spending so much of money m not at all happy with the camera quality.... feeling cheated

Clean your camera lens first..

absolutely true. worst camera considering the brand Sony. Micromax has better camera than SP. cleaning camera lens or cover does not improve anything.
I regret buying this phone. should have gone for ZR
I us this camera mod http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2655322 on cm11 and it's nice.

Regretting buying a phone just because of crappy camera? And you feel cheated? It's not like Sony forced you to buy it and said its camera is excellent. In fact, all of the reviews say that the camera is bad and not good enough. Do some research before buying a phone. And don't expect wonders from a mid range with such high end specs

No better pic. On the other ones are my family.

For me it is not the worst. Stock 4.1.2. Superior auto mode. Indoor could be better though.

my camera works just fine, you need to fine tune the settings

Okay i do not get all of ur complaints bout xperia SP's camera
The camera is pretty good, ya we cant compare to high end devices, but its still pretty good man
I was able to take perfectly clear pics of cells with this camera via a microscope, which i cudnt using a iphone 5
First 3 pics are from 4.1
Other 3 are from 4.3
I do not get how you can say its really bad :-/
Just try to take multiple pics, then delete all except best, or use burst
Low light is not as good

honestly, the camera is fine, take it off superior auto and put it on manual and take a better pic, its not the camera its the photographer. now to prove this theory, please try and tell me what camera took this un-edited, un-filtered un modified pic

i am saying this because i have compared pics taken by xperia sp and xperia L. (in auto mode and in manual mode with same settings.)
xperia L inspite of being cheaper than xperia sp has nice camera quality and much less noise whereas xperia sp always has noise which drastically reduces the quality as compared to xperia L (Which is cheaper 8MP shooter)
and i am saying it because sony is advertising xperia sp and xperia L both for 8 mp shooter with "Sony Exmor RS™ for mobile image sensor"
How the same sensor with same resolution can produce so much of noise on xperia sp

Because they have to sell both.
L for camera
SP for GPU and illumination bar.
These are market tactics and every manufacturer does it. Dont say you dont know this. My desire x was a low/midranger, with excellent camera, but crappy everything else. every set is made to sell for 1 or two points, and flagships are made to cover all of the points. simple.

Changing ROM wont change camera result. however you can try some camera apps from play store. like camera mx and camera 360 etc...
Some focus issues are solved by using 3rd paarty apps. But still, nothing great or extraordinary. Its a decent camera, not a world-beater. you have to accept and live with the fact like all of us. cheers

i change the settings after every pic but i will post what i generally do
First of all put the phone in manual mode auto is ok but not great
set the focus to single auto focus
put on image stabilizer
you should put the phone to take 5mp 16:9 photos not 8mp 4:3
when you are about to take the picture set the exposure so that the pic isnt too bright or too dark
set the white balance now and change it till the pic looks right
now you must click the camera shutter so it focuses the pic then after 1-2 seconds take the shot :good:
DxOMark Mobile Photo: TEST SONY XPERIA Z2
http://www.dxomark.com/Mobiles/Sony...ed-model-takes-first-place-in-Mobile-rankings
And Qualcom announced S808 and 810 CPU based on 64 bit architecture.
Z1 is great, Z2 is awesome...
We could only imagine what will Sony present with Z3 or Z4 (or whatever they named them).
Sony will rule in Android world.
If they add navigation bar control through settings UI - I could leave without root on something like Z3/Z4.

Don't know why you quoted me.
What I said was referring only to Xperia.
Z1, Z2 then next, device that will come this or next year.
I'm saying Z1 has best camera...
And last part... See .that... Sony will rule - so, really don't know where did you found that.

If you read their assessment the tests are done to compare overall camera performance and not just image quality of the photos, they also include video performance as well. The Z2 and the pureview have the same score in image quality but the Z2 trumps the pureview in aspects such as exposure and autofocus, which are all accounted for in the final score. I'm no camera expert but DxOMark are supposedly one of the best in camera reviews, the Z2 is looking even more promising then ever
Highly impressive that it best the pureview. Does waterproofing a camera effect it's performance? If so, then it's even more impressive.
I tend to agree that camera performance should include some measure of accessibility. If a camera can only take great shots in manual mode after fiddling with 17 settings in perfect light on days you got lucky with the old lady and a promotion at work it isn't as useful day to day as one where you can just press the button and get a lesser but decent shot to me.

It most likely won't happen. System apps by oems usually rely on the framework which makes it really hard to port. Is there something u liked on the Xperia z2 camera?

Yes! same thing I want for my S5. Maybe there is an app similar to that but I did not find anything yet
I hope the xperia in porting the app, but I'd settle for an app very similar

Hmm how come lenovo camera and lg camera are possible?
timeshift function... could someone explain why is it that important to use? I highly doubt that anyone would be constantly using it after couple of times of shooting vids with it.
First of all is a new feature in smartphones that allows you to make beautiful and funny videos.
Second, it's good that it is a vital function, but if there why not use it?
And third, if the hardware is pretty much the same because they can not have a similar software?
I personally used it several times, although I'm not very happy with the effect it has in low light circumstances and the quality is too low in my opinion.
After searching and searching por an application to, for example do the thing I like in timeshift ( Slow down only part of a video) I found, Android Studio. Of course is not the same but I least I can do that. It will be great to have Timeshift directly, but in the meantime I'm using that. I hope you guys can check it out
The main feature off lollipop and sony chooses to ignore it.
Let's all start the digging

OK the xperiablog.net report says no raw support for 3rd party cameras as yet. Can anyone confirm the same for the inbuilt camera

Really, Samsung don't have it, LG don't have it either. Or has that changed?
sony wouldnt implement it in its camera firmware anyway, but i was hoping that at least they would include the support for it for 3rd party camera apps, but acordingly to xperia blog, all features are disabled.
This is a shame really, sony ****ed up big time. Galaxy s6 has RAW option, manual focus, manual everything, and all this in the default camera app. You can go even further and use 3rd party apps that have more features.
we cant even get away from the mediocre camera results from sony now, this is sad.
i expect that they implement some of the advanced camera api features from lollipop on Z4, so soon or later it would be ported to z3 series, but this is just a speculation by me.

No, we can't because the camera binaries for the Sony Exmor IMX220 camera sensor have to support it and the only phones to use this sensor are the entire Sony Z Series and the Meizu MX4.
Can someone say if it's possible to use another devices camera binaries for the same sensor?
Since our only hope is riding on the Meizu MX4: gsmarena.com/meizu_mx4_and_mx_4_pro_to_get_android_lollipopbased_flyme_os-news-11023.php

meh,
because YOU want RAW doesnt't mean other want it, 99% of customers don't care about RAW so don't say stupid things.
Would have been nice to have to play around with and to show off to my iPhone friend . In the end it all depends on your point of view. Compared to smartphone camera a few years ago the Z3c is amazing. I've made some beautiful shots with it. And compared to a "real" camera all smartphones are garbage (except maybe Nokia?).
So for me the camera is perfect. I don't want to make a photography album with my pictures I want to have a quick shooter to capture some memories. And with the auto mode and the dedicated button the Z3c is exactly what I need.
It's frustrating because the camera hardware in the phone isn't being utilized to its full potential. Yes, it's fine for the average user, but for some, and I think many on this forum share this mindset - we try to get the most out of our devices. Not tapping into our camera's full potential is like leaving our device unrooted - it's neutered.

The main difference between the S6 and the Z3 being that the S6 is running Lollipop out of the box, where the Z3 is running Kit Kat. Implementing the Camera2 API is a lot more work than just porting the legacy firmware on Lollipop. That's why all OEMs chose to port their old firmware and stop here.

A little disappointed with the camera. The Nexus 6P is so much better. The Z5 Premium camera isn't really much better then the Z1 camera, at least when it comes to photo processing, still much noise in darker photos etc.

Did the Xperia Z5 premium get (or will get) the new Camera app from Xperia XZ? This should boost a little bit the quality of some shots, with the shutter speed 1s.
I'm still considering buying the Z5 but not sure if Sony will update the above mentioned app....

I think they might not. Some users sometimes get the app working on other older models
The new camera app is only for 7.0+ android os. We may get it in Dec when we receive 7.1 update.
