Do Not Disturb blocking visual notifications too? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For starters, I am not a Do Not Disturb fan. This is an extremely overbuilt solution for a problem that did not exist. Simply having a toggle for silent/vibrate/ring is all that is needed. But now that Google has forced this on us, I need to make it work for me as best possible.
I have already tried numerous apps that do the silent/vibrate/ring. They all work relatively well, but when each put it into 'silent' mode, it engages Do Not disturb. Which is fine, except that it stops me from receiving visual notifications. By this I mean, my notification drawer does not show me notifications. This is not universal, some do get by, but for the most part it stops me from getting my normal Gmail, hangouts etc messages unless I go manually checking for them.
Has anybody found a work around? I need silent mode for many scenarios, but I am still utilizing the phone. These notifications are important to me.
Thanks.

have you set each apps notification setting(s) to 'treat as priority' ?

Unfortunately if I do that, then the audible alarms will come through as well and I cannot have that. I wondering if it's not the do not disturb but in fact the doze feature? I'm seeing that Gmail is not syncing as often as normal. Perhaps the 2 combined?

I would flash a rom that restored silent mode and removed dnd

Notification sounds off, Alarms on?

I have a dilemma that I'm hoping someone can help me out with.
I use my Wizard as my daily alarm clock, but don't want to be prematurely awakened by calls or emails. Right now, my only option is to turn on flight mode, but I need to see if I missed any calls while I was asleep. So I need to keep system sounds on, but turn off notification of messages and calls.
Anybody know of a way to set this up or know of some software that would help?
I was wondering the same thing myself, and I found nothing of help. Looks like the Wizards are really not good as alarm clocks - for the reason you are talking about, but also because alarms are so unreliable.
I cant soeak to the reliability of teh alarms, but you could get something like PocketZenPhone. That way you could have a profile with the ringer shut off but whatever notifications you want notifications left on. You could also set it to switch to this profile at a set time so you won't have to remember to do it.
I just downlaoded teh 30 day trial and it see,s to be working well with a small footprint.
turn off phone
I worked round this by turning off the phone in comm manager but leaving the sound enabled - you get the alarm as required but you're not disturbed by incoming txt/email/calls.

It is not free but I use a really cool utility from Pocketmax that lets you set all kinds of profiles so that you can have the phoen ring but no e-mail sounds or whatever you want. You can also set it to change when you plug it in, or on a schedule. Pretty neat.
PPCProfilesPro
One that is free, and does as above-mentioned programs, is MoDaCo's PPCProfilesPro.

Requires registration to the website to download, but well worth it. I found it yesterday while searching for exactly the same thing.
isn't there a silent wav file that you can use as the tones for messages and calls when you sleep?

Stopping Those Persistent Notifications

I have paintstakenly set all of my events (including birthdays) to have a notification of NONE. However, the Incredible seems to flash the screen and "loud ping" every 10 minutes to notify me of these events anyway. I have had to resort to running Timeriffic to turn off all sounds until I wake up.
I am wondering if there is a way to get birthdays (which I believe are the problem) to actually NOT notify if you have set them to NOT notify. I dont want to completely disable notifications in case I do have a meeting or something, but this is somewhat ridiculous.
Thanks
None of my events make any sounds if they are not set to notify.
<sigh>
Ummm ... ok ... so from that response I take it that you are unable to answer my question but replied anyway.
If anyone can actually answer it, I would appreciate any suggestions. I suspect that this may be more for events which recur yearly; perhaps those are prone to the problem.
Events can come from many sources, Google calendar, exchange, etc...
In exchange there is no difference between a birthday or any other event, they are just events.
Not sure about Google Calendar.
in addition i was wondering if its possible to make calls a notification so they dont bother me all the t ime when i am playing games. i cant do airplane mode cause i still need data and need to see who is calling but i hate that i have to mute it and then do the task swkitcher and go back to my game, i wish it was just a notifcation or an option for that or an app? anyone know of one?

[Q] Stop certain notifications from vibrating?

This problem might go beyond the G2 itself, but I'm hoping someone has an answer. I want my phone to vibrate when things like emails or text messages come in, so I have vibrate enabled in the overall LG UI settings menu.
I do not want my phone to vibrate every single time I get a message on Google Hangouts, although I do want a notification in my top bar. I have notifications on in the hangout settings and vibrate disabled, but it seems that the overall UI vibrate on notification setting is overriding the application preference and making it vibrate anyways.
Anyone know what the best way is to handle this? Do I need to disable the overall setting and only enable it in certain apps? Or will the overall disable override everything too and then I won't get any notifications?
I have this exact same problem. Did you ever figure out a solution

[Q] no notification sounds, speakers and audio clips work

When an alert, such as a text message, facebook message, or calendar alarm triggers on my Nexus 4 (5.0.1 lollipop, all stock no root), no sound is generated. The LED blinks and the phone vibrates (which is nice) but the audible alert is missing. The ringtone thankfully works, as well as my alarm clock and pandora, so I know that the speakers are operational. I checked every setting I can locate in reference to notifications, including volume settings, notification tones, app notification settings, and so on. Priority and Silent are NOT selected, volume is basically at max, and I have custom tones set up for mostly every app that will allow me to select one. No apps have notifications suppressed. The tones work when I select them in the menu, and the problem does not seem to care what specific tone is used.
The phone was factory reset Saturday (2 days ago) when I switched to it from my last device. Any insight as to what I should check next?
update: i rebooted into safe mode and was successfully able to get notifications when i sent myself a text from another number and an email. google rep recommended i remove apps one by one until notifications work again, since it was seemingly a problem with one of the third party apps. but of course, after i boot the phone into regular mode, it works fine will monitor and update thread if i lose notifications again.
tl;dr reboot your phone before you make a post lol

Dismissing Notifications

When I get app notifications for things like text messages or emails, entering the app directly and opening the corresponding message does not dismiss the notifications from the notification center. Is this normal behavior? I thought Lollipop did, but I could be mistaken. I either have to swipe the notification off, or click it to open the app to dismiss it.
I noticed the same, found it irritating and I got way to many notifications from all sorts of stuff, App's and OS. Eventually I disabled all notifications. The phone already makes a sound so i don't need any visuals.
I am getting the same issue, any fix/ workaround to get rid of the notifications?
In my case this seems to depend on the application. Whatsapp does this annoying thing, while Gmail and Inbox do not. I think that most apps are not yet updated properly for Marshmallow support.
