Good Morning,
I'n a new signed member in this forum and i want to thank you for the job you've made to open this community. It's very helpful for the android modding.
However i have some doubts regarding the procedure to follow to make a complete customization of my Asus Zenfone 2 ZE551ML. My intention was to root it, but once i saw some of your Custom Rom i'm going to try to flash one of them on my smartphone. I have already read the theads of the FAQ but i haven't found nothing regarding the correct procedure. My intention is to root the phone and then install the custom Rom. I have seen that the boobtloader unlocked and the flashing of the TWRP are required, but i haven't understood the correct sequential operation to to all these tasks. I'll be very thankful if someone would help me and suggest me the procedures thru the links in the forums.
In past i have rooted my old Samsung S2 and flashed a custom rom but i have never touched the bootloader(?) or installed a custom recovery.
I did it by this order:
1.Root
2.Unlock Bootloader (Unofficial)
3.TWRP
4.Flash Custom Rom

Thanks, only a further question..
To root i'll follow the method two in this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/root-newbie-root-instructions-zenfone-2-t3114063
to unlock the bootloader this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/congrats-to-bootlocker-unlocked-t3138547
to install the TWRP this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/development/z00az008-zenfone-2-t3265236
but in this case i don't know if i have to download the TWRP LP or MM version, in fact my device currently is running lollipop, but i want to install a custom rom (RR) which is running Marshmallow. Which one i should choose? and in this thread, there is no guide to install the recovery but there are only the download links, could you suggest me where to find how to do it? ..
Then i'd like to flash the RR custom rom following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/development/rom-resurrection-remix-mm-5-6-0-t3275854
So this is what i'm going to operate, is it correct?
Yes, this is correct. It doesn't mater what version of TWRP you use. Either works, and both can flash either LP or MM.
If you don't care about OTA:
Unlock bootloader with official apk
Flash twrp with "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img"
Flash custom rom

LOS is pretty good on both fronts, Pure Fusion seems to be based on AOSP, good battery life; Nuclea was pretty good too.
Read EVERYTHING or you may DFU brick your phone (disassembly required) or even wipe your IMEIs. Remember that your phone model is the one on the back of the phone, NOT NECESSARILY the one that the system says!
For custom ROMs you'll need the UNIVERSAL BOOTLOADER, your corresponding MODEM FILE, an image of TWRP 3.1.1-0, and MAGISK on your phone. Reboot only after flashing everything, and after flashing the Universal Bootloader, select Install Image and select the TWRP image, then flash it to the recovery partition

To install any custom ROM you first need to flash the A2017X_Universal_Bootloader.zip, then flash TWRP 3.1.1-0 (the universal bootloader installs an old version of TWRP which will appear after a reboot, you simply overwrite it by flashing the TWRP.img) then the modem file for your own model (for example A2017G_Modem.zip), then the ROM, then Magisk_14.3.zip.
The A2017X_Universal_Bootloader.zip and the modem files are in the LOS thread.

Don't know about any guides, but basically read the posts entirely before actually trying to do anything. The axon7toolkit is nice and all but you just shouldn't use it for flashing stuff. If you have TWRP, you can simply forget about the toolkit for pretty much everything.
To install a ROM you have to use the Install button on TWRP. If you have an error 7 it probably means that your TWRP version is old, check that and install the latest TWRP image if that happens.
If the ROM asks for a pin on startup, go to Wipe then Advanced then Format data
Hey guys, I wanted some help on flashing LineageOS 14.1 to my Axon 7 A2017G.
I've looked at a bunch of guides but they all seem outdated or way too confusing.
I tried to follow the guide under the "Axon 7 Toolkit " thread where there were some instructions on how to flash a rom for noobs and when going to test for fastboot, it says I don't have fastboot.
Tried to get fastboot by following some guide and using miflash but ended up doing something to my device where android asked for a password when i booted up, where as I didn't have a password and had to end up factory resetting my device. LOST ALL MY DATA
If someone could please give me a simple, easy to follow guide on how to unlock bootloader, and flash custom rom, I would be immensely grateful.
Also if there is a guide on how to restore back to stock rom and factory settings in case I need to send phone back to ZTE at any point that would also be helpful.
:good:
The toolkit guide is probably the easiest one.
Read the whole thread and try again.

LOSING ALL YOUR DATA will be something normal actually. If you want to go to LineageOS you will probably lose it a bunch of times...
Well it turns out the toolkit is not the easiest way. Do this:
You didn't seem to search. Use "Unlock bootloader easily" by WesTD. After that simply go to the LOS thread, and download the ROM, the Universal Bootloader, and the modem file for your phone (for the G). Get Magisk too. and GApps for arm64. ) Then enter TWRP, ensure that it's 3.2.1-0 or more, else update it (get the newer .img for ailsa_ii or axon7 and Install - Install image - Recovery partition). Format data, and make sure that it formatted with ext4 (it'll say -formatting with make-ext4fs or sth). flash the bootloader, then the modem, then ROM, then Magisk, then GApps. After that boot.

Or try this tool to unlock your bootloader....way more advanced by the way thnx @djkuz
Just install the axon 7 drivers, this tool and....UNLOCK with ease :good:
Also all files to revert back to stock, flashing modem, recovery... etc are well discribed there. Just take a peek there...
Just another advice : do read all threads carefully, no matter what you're doing, do backup regularly and all will be OK :good:

"Can i eat spaghetti and pomodoro" at dinner?
Of course you can, just make sure after install TWRP
you do a full backup of stock ROM before preceed rooting.
Happy flash.
P.S.: the question is legitimate, but it would make sense if nougat had come out lately...

Thanks, can you describe a software for a total backup? After backup, I need to unlock the bootloader and then I can flash the TWRP with fastboot?? Can you make a guide for all? Thanks for all
Hi, I just came home from work ..
What model of device do you have? Is it a VENUS (VNS) or a PRAGUE (PRA) one?
Write here complete firmware you have..
Later I reconnect, now I have to go ..
For apps, search the internet for the ones you need to backup, you can also use your huawei backup apps...
the rest as files or music, photos, videos, copy them on your computer ..
There are apps on the store to backup phone calls, text messages, etc., just search ..
When you feel relaxed about copying all your important things on your computer,
go to step 2, ie unlocking the bootloader, custom recovery flash, and so on ...
What is very important is to read more than one time GUIDES you need to follow...
Always one thing at a time

Hey Tommy,
you have the same phone as mine... L31 single sim..
Well, do you already have your bootloader unlock number ? If yes you can proceed, if not.... well... we will talk anymore...
About "how to", yes you can use commands with fastboot or use k1ll3r8e's toolkit that makes all things you need, including:
another huawei backup via hisuite, unlock BT, download and flash custom recovery (TWRP), root ie HOW TO..
So download all files and copy SU to your SD card:
@k1ll3r8e toolkit and install on PC;
@OldDroid TWRP and put wherever you want (on your PC);
Official SuperSU 2.82;
A very IMPORTANT thing is before connect phone to PC enable/disable things as showed in THIS screenshot !!!
Then open toolkit, go in bootloader TAB and install hisuite drivers on PC.
When you ready dude, quote here, will replay ASAP ..
Peace

Hi, you can do what you want with your phone, you can choose what you planned to do my friend or do nothing....
In your previous post you wrote about lock screen you can't disable... investigate about this, could be very important. What you do with your phone is at your onw responsibility, you know.. just adviced....
In post number #3 you wrote:
"I need to unlock the bootloader and then I can flash the TWRP with fastboot??",

So choose your method, fastboot or toolkit, or a guide HERE in @dariomrk's thread that use Magisk...
For fastboot search and download here on XDA, for toolkit i already posted you the link to the main thread, Search in each thread you will find the HOW TO section.
Just follow guides, use search, ask users/dev for helps...
If something goes wrong don't point your finger at me...
Where i'm wrong other members feels free to correct me whenever they want... thank you guys.
Good luck !!
P.S.: Some basic knowledge needed to root your phone, so if you think you don't have, just give up, sorry but necessary i write this.

Thanks, now my phone is rooted
I apologize as I feel this must be asked all the time, and I looked around on the forums for stickies and what not, but I didn't have any luck. Here is where I'm at, I want to flash Reserrection Remix, or another 64 bit ROM so I can try out the new google camera on my Moto G5 Plus. I miss the portrait mode from my old iPhone 7 Plus (long story on the move), and was looking to try this out. Given the nature of what I am doing I wanted to be careful as not to brick my phone.
Is there a good tutorial on everything I need to do to get a custom rom on the phone? Ideally with the ability to get back to stock if things go sideways? I would appreciate any help that isn't "google it" because I have tried that too and I am not sure the best place to start. I know XDA is a great resource from my experience, and hopefully someone can get me some steps, but even a link to a good post about the process would be helpful, I understand that.
Thanks for the help so much, I appreciate it.
Well, first time fashing can be overwhelming. I'll try to be brief and point you into right directions.
In short, flashing a custom ROM follows these steps:
1. Unlock your bootloader.
2. Flash a custom recovery (TWRP)
3. Get your desired ROM
4. Get the compatible gApps.
5. Flash ROM through recovery.
6. Flash gApps through recovery.
7. Reboot.
However, any of those step could go wrong and brick your debice. Not trying to scare you but just to understand that this is a risky process which will void your warranty (most probably) as soon as you successfully execute the first step.
I'll post the relevant links, just need to get to my laptop.

The following steps and guides assume you're familir with things as adb, fastboot, custom recovery etc. Even if not in depth but what they are and what they mean. If you have no idea about any of these. Stop. Read about it and then come back else you might end up bricking your phone.
So as to begin,
Step 1: Unlock your bootloader.
Step 2: Flash a Custom Recovery(TWRP). since you plan to flash RR which is 64 bit ROM, you will need 64 bit TWRP . Offical TWRP is here.
Step 3. By now you should have TWRP and booted into it at least once. Next step is to download the ROM and GApps. Head to the ROM thread and download the latest version. Get the GApps as well from Open GApps (ARM 64, 8.1). Copy the zips to your device (External SD card preferably. Internal memory might not be accessible by TWRP).
Step 4: Boot into recovery. Select Backup and take a Nandroid backup (Extremely Important. You would be able to go back if something goes wrong). Copy this backup to a safe location.
Step 5: Wipe -> Advanced -> wipe system,cache,dalvik,data.
Step 6: Install -> Select ROM.zip file. Flash it.
Step 7: Install -> Select GApps.zip file. Flash it.
Step 8: Wipe -> Advanced -> cache and dalvik only.
Setp 9: Reboot.
First boot might take a while.
You should boot into RR.
These are the standard steps for flashing. However, I've omitted some details that you will find in the respective threads. Be careful. Read before you do anything. At any point if something doesn't make sense, stop and ask.

If you want it only for camera purposes, It's a lot of hassle for such a small thing IMO. (Not trying to discourage you). Moreover, Camera is buggy in most of the LineageOS based Roms (including ResurrectionRemix). Check out the thread.
Just an add on to the above post:
Backup /system as img, it backs it up as a bit perfect copy.
Back up everything in TWRP, you can scroll down and select more partitions, the most important is EFS. I'm saying this because I missed them when I started off. You might need this later on as it stores your IMEI.
