Nexus 6p weight - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Did you weight your 6p?
I asked for a 2nd 6P due to the rattle sound on vibration (the second rattles as well), and I feel it on my hand like lighter...
So I put them on the balance, and... surprise!
First 6P: 188g
Second 6P: 179g
Is it normal?
Have I to expect a worse battery life?

Your first devices weight was wrong. The phone is supposed to weigh 178g. Mine weighs 178g. It's listed on GSM arena

IDK if it is just me, but I held my frost 64gb and a friend's 32gb graphite. The graphite felt lighter.
I ordered my frost day 1, he just got the graphite a week ago.

Thought the same when I got my Frost in yesterday. Kept switching the Frost and Graphite from palm to palm cause I thought I was wrong but the Frost definitely felt heavier for some reason.

New units with light bleed.

Anyone recently purchase a new unit that has no light bleed or does this problem still exist?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I purchased a unit two days ago that turned out to have 1 dead pixel and an additional two dark "spots" which i assumed were a small group of dead pixels bunched together (maybe 2-3) and some lightbleed on the top of the unit. Additionally, it had somewhat of a "bump" along the side of one of the edges of the tablet, so if you placed it in landscape on the table you could make it rock back and forth (rather than standing still and sturdy as it should). That was a unit from the CCO batch, so I'm guessing December 2012.
I exchanged it for a new one yesterday and this one is FLAWLESS. I have NO light bleed, NO dead pixels or dark spots, NOTHING. This thing is absolutely perfect. No screen lift, NOTHING. I'm literally so happy with it. Worth noting is that this flawless one is from the CBO batch, so November 2012 I'm guessing. Absolutely flawless.
I guess I was unlucky with the first one since the CCO batches should be the best one's as they're the latest.
Both were the 32GB Wifi version (no 3G)

Cool! Thank you. I have a 32 gig that has some light bleed that I thought I could ignore but I can't. Selling it on craigslist. Then probably getting another one from Walmart for an easy exchange in case its defective.

I wouldn't hang myself up on light bleed; it depends a lot on how bad it is. Most of it is bareable imo, but as with all faults, you can never unsee them once you've seen them. If you aren't happy you have every right to get a tablet you are happy with I'd be much more hung up on dead/stuck pixels. Those things are literally in your face 24/7 once you see them once.
Good luck!

Just conditioned the Leather X - PICS!

I love leather, which is why I got the cognac leather back. I'm very familiar with Horween---lots of of my high dollar boots (incl. shell) are made from their leather. I decided to condition my X to help protect it from accidental spills, etc. I also wanted to deepen the "richness" of the color. After applying the product, I gently heated the surface, let it sit, then wiped the excess. Finally, a gently brushing with a horse hair brush. Standard treatment I do for my good boots. Obenauf's is really good for preventing water stains.
Very pleased with results. Unfortunately, no before pics. These pics were taken with the phone placed on a white sheet of paper. The color didn't change much which I expected. Maybe a bit warmer. Texture is bit grippier but I suspect that will smoothen out the more the leather rubs on hands, clothes, etc.

I am so torn between cognac and natural. Problem with cognac is, I have seeN at least 4 variations of the color so far. No store near me has any real life examples. I'm just biding my time trying to get real world photos of them before I make my decision.
Would you say the pics you posted are "true" to what it looks like in real life?
It does look great, btw.
I have yet to see navy leather, which might be what I'm going to change to.

I have the cognac. The pics are close but it looks a tad darker maybe in real life.
Actually looks to be the same exact phone as mine. Black and the metallic grey? Looks like it. Mine is also Verizon. You have good taste sir
That is saweet! I'd have ordered cognac instead of natural if I'd known it was that beautiful. Still waiting for mine to come. Shipping date slid back to 10/17 now. ?
The shine from the lighting makes it seem just a tad more red than it is. Holding my phone up now to the first pic....they are like 98% matching. Just imagine it more matte. A few days since treating it now. Very supple. The juxtaposition of warm, organic material against cold, machined metal makes this phone so unique and special. Interestingly, the logo looks like it came from a branding iron (just lasers of course).

That's it. I actually saw the lighter brown and black leathers too. The cognac is a nice middle ground that will nicely show some wear without looking dirty.

That's leather tanning for you. It will vary from batch to batch. For example: if you buy a leather couch, and then 6 months later decide to pick up the matching foot rest... they might not match...

Here is mine. It's almost black looking. Sorry but the best camera I have is my Nexus 7.

Nexus 9 Black VS White models. Differences

quick story:
I bought the black nexus 9 16GB on release date at best buy. upon unboxing it, i was a bit disappointed. the build quality was pretty weak. right away i noticed that there was a click on the back, right above the HTC logo. you can press upon it, it felt a bit hollow. anyhow i tried to look pass it because I'm a really big nexus fan. next i noticed the weak volume and power buttons. there were very flush and very hard to find and press. most of the time i would accidentally power off the display trying to raise the volume. i again tried to look pass it, and actually used it for a full week. the final stray came when, after a week's use and after downloading all my apps I looked at the available storage and there were only 3gb left. No way, i just couldn't do it. with no expandable storage this was just a deal breaker. i immediately returned it to best buy. I wanted to give it another shot because i really enjoyed the screen size and front facing speakers of the nexus 9. So I bought the white nexus 9 32GB off of amazon with next day delivery.
the White nexus 9 was way better. And I mean WAYYYYY better. the volume and power button stick out more, more tactile, and have an audible click. the back feels much more solid and there is no click or give anywhere on the back. the Metal band that goes around the nexus actually looks and feels metal, something that i totally forgot and looked passed on the black version.
Conclusion: if you are going to get a nexus 9 get the WHITE 32GB version. i consider myself a minimalist but the black version just looks too bland. Ive seen the BUTTON ISSUE on the black display model at best buy. maybe the change in materials is actually causing some issues.
hope this helps anyone looking for a nexus 9. I also want to know if anyone is experiencing some issues with the white model
I too have the 32GB White Nexus 9 and it's a rock solid piece of equipment. The build quality is excellent including screen, white case back, and buttons. The white case makes the whole thing look sexy.
Merrell
Ditto for me. But just learned no mircast, hugh bummer for work
I just bought a white one, thanks for your post.
I have the black 32gb version and I don't have any of those issues. Maybe I got lucky that mine was on back order. Must have gotten one from a newer/improved batch?
Thanks for this post Rafaeli11. I ordered the white Nexus 9 on Friday and it's being delivered tomorrow. Since ordering it I've read so many negative comments that's I've almost canceled my order and just got an iPad instead. I have noticed, however that the people having problems all seem to be using the black version. After reading your post I'm a little less anxious about the build quality my Nexus 9 may have. I've read on a few different sites now that the back of the white version is more solid.
Thanks again.

Unfortunately that's what I did. After reading all the negative reviews on here I went and spent the money I had saved for the nexus 9 on an iPad Air 2. It was not all that!! The sound distorts and vibrates and on a certain area of the screen just a normal light touch caused a wavy effect (just like if you press really hard on a LCD screen). This also happened when you hold the tablet in a certain way. Luckily I managed to get a full refund and will now get the Nexus 9. We all learn from our mistakes!!!!

I owned an iPad Air last year and whilst it was great in build quality and had great battery life, it bored the life out of me. I ended up dropping it anyway. I then purchased a Nexus 7 2013 just to tide me over until the Nexus 9 came out. I just hope there's nothing wrong with mine when it arrives tomorrow, I'll be really disappointed if it's got the issues some people are suffering. I had a bad experience with my Nexus 5, I had to RMA it 3 times. If my Nexus 9 is all good tomorrow I'll be over the moon.

I purchased the Black version on release day and was incredibly shocked at how bad the build was. The back popped and I also had major light bleed. So I returned it and ordered a white one to see if it by chance could be any better. I can say that the white version seems better all the way around. No popping on the back and minimal light bleed. I can say I'm very happy and would say this tops all android tablets out there and I have owned at least 10 to 15 of them.
Can anyone confirm if this popping back issue has been fixed in new batch or is it still there in black version? I guess I will get mine replaced if it is. I guess choosing white version would be easy fix but it is not available in Finland Play store.

Sorry I was confused by the wording. It was not clear that you meant the N9 in the end and meant to type ipad. I guess it reads that you returned the N9 for the ipad and returned the ipad for the N9. So cool
I have the white 16 GB version and can't see any defects on it the build quality is like my wife's ipad air it feels solid and battery life is amazing almost 4 days Jo charge on par with ipad battery life os maybe the black one does have bit different materials??
I too bought the white mainly for one reason - fingerprints. I already have experience with the N5 and N7 which I ended up getting skins for. with the white it shows up much less.
Got the bonus of it having great build quality. very happy with my decision.
And my wallet and I are back on speaking terms!
Also bought the White (32GB) and have no issues with the back popping. It feels solid.
Light bleed exist but is very minimal in a couple of corners. When watching letter-boxed videos, I don't even notice.
Add another one here.
I bought the black one the first day it came out. NFC didnt work, the back cover clicks, the tablet was laggy (older firmware). Returned it to Best Buy and got the white version. Wow, what a difference. I have none of the problems above.
I believe these are all in people's luck.
My black version is solid, with really really "good" (comparatively), lightbleed. No flexing and no back cover clicking, plus no #gapgate.
I don't think the white is constructed with better QC than its black brothers.
Assuming all units are the same, and each has a 50% chance of a bad turnout.
Your next N9 could simply have struck luck and got a good unit, regardless of black or white.
Show the black one some looooooove! It's feeling left out!
I bought my N9 32gb black the day after release. It's pretty solid in build quality with no clicking and minimal light bleed (a lot less than other devices I have). Everything appears to work. I'm very happy with it.

I got one a few days ago - love it so far. Getting used to it - I have used Samssung phones for so long, flashing is a bit different on this device - still learning the language, i.e. Vendor and stuff like that - but loving it - and love MM a ton.
I do not see any "Pink Issues" on my phone (frankly I didn't knwo there was an issue with Pink hues on screens until I read this thread - don't know the build date as I already flashed a few roms - but like I said, I haven't noticed anything odd...
awesome phone -
To those who have it, have you checked it's manufactured date? I'm curious if they ironed out all of the issues.
Anyone care to post a screen on (100% not adaptive brightness)? Maybe compared to another phone with same brightness?

Rattling of internal parts, screen uniformity, things like that.

Was it? Not sure, maybe volume/power button rattle. It wasn't a big deal, just curious about these things. My first one had screen coloring issues, the second one bent (like twisted when removing a case) and it had pink tint across half of the screen.

I could have sworn I've seen people talk about rattle from the camera lens, but don't quote me on it.
I had 3 of them that bent but the screens were OK overall. Just not as good as I was used to on my Note 5.
It might be worth giving it another shot with Gold. Which phone are you on now?

I've had a bunch of the newer ones, just to try them out, but keep coming back to my trusty Nexus 6.
Lg G3, Galaxy s5, Nexus 6, Nexus 6p, Note 5, back to Nexus 6, Nexus 6p again, One Plus X (cheap, wanted to try it), back to my Nexus 6.
Really not sure what it is about the 6p, something just doesn't feel complete to me. I compare it to the HTC M7 and the M7 feels WAY more solid. They're both made out of the same material but there is something "hollow" about the 6p.
I'm debating between the S7 Edge and the LG G5, especially since they've got the volume buttons on the side again.

Difference is IPS (G5 rumored to be Amoled) vs Amoled. Since both are going to be Snapdragon 820, I don't see development being an issue. But what I do remember is that the G3 had horrible AOSP, at least at the beginning, not sure of it after that.

Updated Revision?

I've asked this before, and I'm interested in giving the 6p a THIRD try, but hesitant.
If anyone has purchased recently, either from Google or Amazon, is the red/pink screen still an issue? I've had two that were really bad (about 50% of the screen was pinkish); I feel like third time is the charm, but I don't know.
Thoughts? I still have the N6, debating between 6p or the S7 Edge (for a daily phone).

It will always be an issue, it's inherent to the manufacturing process for AMOLED displays.

Not entirely.
The Note5 or S6/7 people don't complain about redness or pink hues. Also, some of the 6Ps are claiming no discoloration at all. There is obviously something wrong, and I'm curious if it's going to be fixed or has at least gotten better with new batches.
I've seen you post before about revisions. I'm not sure it's working the way youre thinking. The n4 had hardware revisions as did the n5, but neither were for screens that im aware of. Still, no issue with mine, 1st day preorder in UK for 64gb graphite.
I don't notice a pink hue at all...I had the 32gb back in November, returned it and got the 64gb and have been using that since and not once on the old or new have I noticed a pink hue. My screen looks more "crisp" next to my girlfriends G3 but she doesnt notice a pink hue either. Idk though...lol
No pink hue for me either. No complaints about this phone to date. Ordered the first week it came out.
Better off spending your time looking for a phone with LCD. My first 6P came with uniformed display then a few months later I got a replacement for unrelated issue. Top half was pinkish, so I tried 4 other replacements and were the same but the latest one has perfect buttons (late November build) so I keep it. I don't see the pink anymore ever since I stopped caring. What I realized though is that the original phone's display was really yellow when compared to replacement. I didn't think it would turn yellow this quickly from just web browsing and social.
