Anyone think we have a chance for it?
probably not officially, but from what we have xda
Wysłane z mojego Moto G przy użyciu Tapatalka
We will have it for sure. But official is kind of unknown atm because only preview images for the nexus 5 and nexus 7 (I guess the 2013 model)will be avalible tomorrow. I guess wait and see what the devs can do overall we are still rocking a nexus device. Right?
I think 4.4.4 is latest officialy update but not last one, we have xda.

I should have been more clear. I would not assume, nor do I think we will get it officially. BUT....I am not even sure if we will have it unofficially as the ROM has to function with Tegra 3 APIs due to the new graphics abilities. yes/no?
who knows.
the code has not been released yet, so nobody can tell at the moment.

Good point. Just thought is would be fun to theorize about the possibility. It would really "renew" the 2012 models viability.

you can say it for let's say 70% that it will come UNOFFICIAL because most custom roms have a backward compatible framework. So that e.g. drivers that are not supported by a newer android version can still be used in that version or a CPU feature is missing e.g. neon in the 2X. Google stopped the support for non neon devices I think in android 4.2.2 and guess what, the 2X is rocking Android 4.4.4
Think that Nexus 7 (2012) not have ART compilation and Android L is only ART. Not official Android L for N7.
But... the community will bring us Android L
I trust on xda for android L in my nexus :highfive:
Android L developer preview image officially live for "flo" (Nexus 7 2013) here: https://developer.android.com/preview/setup-sdk.html#top
Shall the port begins now?
I think we'll have it, the dev on Google IO session talking about Material Design said they "tested the 60fps performance on the original Nexus 7"
This at least proved they have a L build for us, the matter is will they release it to us.

If not official I hope devs can come through. I remember honeycomb was being ported to phones so yeah devs here on theses forums are amazing
Don't worry, we'll get it. I asked the Android team during the Android Fireside Chat how L will run on low end devices and they said they began testing and development on the Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 7 (2012). So L was actually designed for our tablet and will obviously have an official build! :highfive:

Great info!
I don't know...the nexus 4 is not even receiving any love and its really a smaller N7 2013.

I agree that L will make it to our 2012 tablets. We are not dead yet and I'm not upgrading until the new nexus 8 is out myself. Good times! ?

That's not good news I have an old app that I use every day that hasn't been updated in 3 years and doesn't worth with ART

It has been proven by several custom ROMs that ART runs on the 2012 Nexus 7. So it's just a matter of Google officially enable ART on the 2012 Nexus 7.
But I actually don't think that we'll get the official L Update. Google wants us to upgrade to the newer N7 or even the rumored Nexus 8.

This doesn't really mean anything. Google may work with older devices during development to ensure performance and quality of Material on older hardware, but doesn't necessarily mean they will create an official build for consumers.
... since the g2 and nexus 5 have (generally) the same specs, when you root the g2 is it turning it into a nexus 5 and can you use nexus 5 ROMS or no?
Thanks in advance..

Greetings[emoji4][emoji4], its not turning into a nexus 5 UNTIL you can flash custom Roms that are compatible with your G2 aswell as being compatible with the Nexus 5 already, when I was rooted, I flashed Cyanogenmod 11/Paranoid Android/Mahdi Rom,etc, and I saw my phone as a Nexus 5 or even better, but yes you can flash Custom Roms that are compatible with the Nexus 5 for your G2.[emoji6][emoji6]

Thats not correct. If you flash CM11 or PA on G2 it will be the same and it will look same as that ROM on Nexus 5 (since they have similar hardware). But you cant flash .zip file of Nexus 5 ROM on G2 because you will probably brick your phone.

I'm well aware that CM11 and PA can use Google Now Launcher, and I'm aware that Paranoid Android is based on Cyanogenmod, and that their both AOSP based Roms, because I've tested both of these Custom Roms, I wasn't telling him to flash a zip file of the Nexus 5 Rom, because it will(not probably) brick his phone, because the Nexus 5 runs different(not by much) hardware compared to the G2.
What I quoted in my last post stating "its not turning into a nexus 5 UNTIL you can flash custom Roms that are compatible with your G2 aswell as being compatible with the Nexus 5." i was stating that he can flash a Custom Rom that makes your G2 look and act like you would have a Nexus 5, not that he can flash a Nexus 5 Rom, I just want you to understand my last statement towards his question and this one aswell.

I just thougt that your post was a little bit unclear to someone who is new to XDA, flashing and thoose stuff. Hope he will understand it now and not do anything wrong to brick his phone
EDIT: I know how to be a begginer (although I had Android devices for 3 years so far), G2 seems like kinda specific device. Loki bootloader, especially after nexus device is something completly strange, then thoose black and white lines... I had to spend few hours to read all stickies to understand some things.

Thanks for clearing things up..
While not a total noob, I'm still learning. I've rooted several android devices.. HTC evo shift, 3d, sensation, nexus 7, 2x nexus 4 and B&N Nook HD+. Currently have a Nexus 4. I'm considering getting the G2 since it is very close in specs to the Nexus 5 but can be bought for about $100 less. Hence, my question. I realize that once you put a custom ROM on any device, it will look just like others' with that ROM but I was originally curious about being able to use Nexus 5 ROMs with the G2 since the specs are almost identical. My fear is that developer support for this device will wane, where support is constant with Nexus devices.
Thanks again for the help.

I personally don't think developer support for the LG G2 will wane, there's still developer support for the Galaxy S3, I'm guessing since the Nexus Line is aimed more for developers(seeing the Nexus Line is really Developer Based Phones), is why its so popular (besides the fact of it running pure stock android, and not having any custom android skins on top of it, and receiving updates quicker than any other non-nexus device) and it's support won't wither anytime soon, because they're so many developers out there that most likely have a nexus device and are testing apps and Roms on, I'm guessing.[emoji4][emoji4][emoji4]

Always wanted a Nexus but availability issues has stopped me. The 6P will be the first Nexus to launch locally and I really want to get it. However, I've heard ParanoidAndroid(fav. custom rom) is no longer in the scene and are working with OnePlus now. What other customs roms are still operating other than Cyanogen? Which would be recommended for Nexus devices? I know PA was more or less exclusively on Nexus/OnePlus devices.
Go look in the nexus 6 section for an idea of what will be here

Nice, why didn't I think of that. I suppose CM is the most popular rom for N6?
Cm would be popular but most ROMs are going to layers instead of cm theme engine as it's native in marshmallow on nexus ... So a lot of ROMs like slim and pure nexus are very popular
6.0 also has native multi task
Pa still has builds but not much going on there as a lot of their big things never got merged

Check out Chroma. By far the best Nexus 6 rom and he has bought a 6p and will be updating the rom for it.
Nice rom from what I can tell. Any word if zeph will be updating it to 6P?
EDIT : Seems like he bought a 6P and will be developing for it. Excellent. Might have just confirmed by purchase.

There are many nice roms in the Nexus6 section that will be over here. Like Croma, Pure, N6Shamu, etc...
What are the chances of getting Miui?

I made my purchase the first day in which preorders became available, it'll arrive by October 27-28. Marshmallow will be coming out this week, so I'll be working on Marshmallow when I have the time, Nexus 6 (2014) should start receiving builds and once the 6P arrives (I selected 1 day shipping), I'll start working on making the ROM compatible with N6P which shouldn't be too difficult.
Hope to see you there

The 6P will be the first Nexus we will be getting locally but I don't think it will be as fast as the US. I suspect builds will already be out before I get it. Looking forward!:good:
@sacredsoul the roms and development will be endless for 3 to 4 years maybe for the huawei 6p. Endless!
Questions about warranty: Will we lose our warranty status when we root it or flash roms? - SG member here too, waiting for Huawei Singapore to release it

Rom affect camera functionality Google intended?
I'm new to rooting, does installing a new ROM affect the camera functionality and quality the way google have wanted it from a nexus phone?

No, and its app is available on Google Play. Welcome to XDA!
Definitely looking forward to getting back to using custom roms after being unable to with my last 2 phones having a locked bootloader (so they were limited).
Really disappointed Android Pay won't work with Custom Roms, but holding out hope someone will find a workaround.
Chroma and BeansTown(purenexus) ROM would probably be the best top two for customization and stability. And it looks like Chroma ROM will be coming for N6P =]
I was saddened when Google didn't announce the Nexus 7 2012 to get Marshmallow, but I want to be on the newest version of Android. When are the ROMs coming?

Have you had any success with lollipop on your 7'12? Mine is totally useless, cannot work due to lag and freezing when on L, and I doubt M works any better. The '12 really wasn't to last as long as we've used ours. It's still a decent tab with KK installed and not asking too much from it. I doubt M will come out way.
I agree...
I think the last usable ROMs working decently on N7 2012 where those base on android 4.4.4, so I don't even plan to try any M based ROM on it
I think there is something seriously messed up on the '12 Lollipop. It runs great after the initial boot. Hell, even with apps. Then it comes to a crawl after a few days. If you run Trim, it whips back into a performing tab for a short while again. I'm hoping to at least try Marshmallow on my '12. If there is something really messed up as I think, I hope M fixed it. My Nexus 6 runs much better on M than it did L - yes, I know different hardware but things seem more efficient from the software side.
I saw on Android authority a few days ago that the PA team have finally released their own unique new source built MM ROM. Just curious if anyone is planning to or already working on it. I don't know how to dev, but I'm certainly a willing guinea pig if needed!
PA has been very innovative and unique in the past, and it'd be nice to see something else that's not just CM based with added features finally since the Kit Kat days.

For what? AICP is full of extras, unnecessary.
PA have a different approach, and a better one, is like stock android, but more refined.

Well, if you would have looked in the AICP thread like @lafester said, you would have seen this post. He was giving you your answer but you didn't even bother checking. Since you love paranoid android so much, maybe you should build it and share it with the community.
