[Q] Just got my s4 and dont know how to proceed with rooting etc.

I updated from Galaxy nexus. ?. Had it for over 2 years and could have continued to user it for another 2 years if I wanted. ?. But newer bigger faster you know the drill.
Ive been reading many threads for the past 2 days to get aquainted with the goings on and I am still at a loss of how to proceed. Lastly my phone downloaded an ota but I am afraid to install because I don't want to limit my options to root install custom rooms etc....this is because I read somewhere about one of the ota's blocking rooting or installing roms..... Then there is this knox security thing that I am unclear about. I will post my phone info to assist folks in steering me in the right direction
If u root it u will lose the ability of install updates via OTA, but u will still having the updates for Kies 3. If u want root ur phone, follow this guide for no void ur warranty: HERE. Good luck

[Q] To root s4 or no?

My question is in the title of thread? So i had an xperia sp, and i unlocked bootloader and installed a cyanogenmod and i had an warranty (broke my microphone) And they gave new phone to me, i hope that they will be stuipid in services if i somehow spoil my phone (god forbid (google translate)).... But never mind for warranty, probably i will install cwm and flash new roms cause i want to make more video reviews about roms kernels etc.. Also check out my channel on youtube if you want. Whats your opinion?
Well if you want to flash roms then you HAVE to root
Best thing I did was to root & flash this phone
4.2.2 original rom should equal to no knox enabled so root away. On the other hand, if you're worried about warranty and you're on 4.3.x or 4.4.x then your warranty is lost if you tinkle with it - Knox is going to be triggered and warranty is void.
Do the math and root awayall the same , and do take care about your phone there are much more benefits from rooting it, then not doing so

Will rooting my s4 void my warranty.

I have i9500 with 4.4.2 update. how can i root it without voiding the warranty. Is there any way. i tried searching the forum but didnt find relative answers with 4.4.2 Android. Please need help here.
4.4.2 out of luck
there is no saferoot
if you want to root you will void the warranty
but dont care about warranty, your phone will have 2 years warranty then it will end and your phone will be old enough
just enjoy your phone ! you paid for it !
So there is no other way. if i root warranty Void.
Unfortunately yes !

Use search next time..
Knox is build in in the last generation of Samsungs phone. if you flash something custom, the Knox warranty will be void.
Which means;
No Warranty, and there is no going back if you voided it. If you don't want this you might want to check the root de la vega.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2479952
Yet everything works like it should when the Knox is void. you just don't have warranty.
thread cleaned.
Also this:

A couple of noob questions.

Hi, despite the title, I am not a stranger to rooting or any of that stuff, so I will know what you are talking about!
However, i have not had a Samsung phone before and I wanted to ask a couple questions about rooting and stuff as I am getting an S6 Edge+.
Firstly, in terms of custom recovery, unlocking bootloader, rooting and things like that, that which I normally do on a new phone, which will trip knox, and what will tripping knox mean for me?
Also, will custom ROMs or any of the above prevent me fro using the fingerprint sensor?
Is there anything else I should know (warnings, tips, etc) for any of the above stuff?
Thanks for for answering my probably dumb questions!
Read carefully all tutorials in the forums. Our devs write very good explains how to flash custom recovery and custom kernel - its a must because of the awake bug. Knox flag its a indicator for custom binaries and unofficial modification of the device - its some ridiculous samsung security trigger. In some countries, flagged/ tripped knox ruin the warranty. This is the basic information for the rooting procedures. And again - read carefully the warnings and the tips about it!
Happy flashing and big regards for all developers in xda and g928 sub forums!
If I were you, i would not root my phone, you will have to face with deep sleep issue like... forever and you have to use custom kernel and ROM to fix it
