I just got the Lollipop update yesterday via OTA (UK unlocked 910F, not rooted) and I'm having issues with Smart Unlock.
I started by removing my corporate Exchange account from the phone and clearing the trusted certificate store to remove the administrative controls (I've switched to using Nine instead). I enabled Smart Unlock it via the Trusted Agents settings and linked it to my watch but rather than actually unlocking the device when the watch is connected via Bluetooth it just adds an extra swipe to unlock screen before requesting a secure unlock anyway. I've tried it with both PIN and fingerprint security enabled with the same result. Has anyone else been able to get this working with the Note 4?
When I got the lollipop update I factory reset the phone before installing it.
I am having no issues with NFC unlock and location unlock, I just wish they had added WiFi unlock as I don't want to leave GPS turned on when I'm at home. But I am having some issues with Bluetooth unlock with my headset.
The NFC unlock just unlocks the device straight to home screen or the last used app, location unlock removes my fingerprint unlock and makes it swipe to unlock and the Bluetooth one 50% of the time goes to swipe unlock or stays fingerprint unlock.
You don't need to pull the "lock" icon, just swipe anywhere on the screen when you have a bluetooth device connected. The lock icon is to relock the device not unlock it, it's pretty confusing when I you first see it.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was doing. I'm used to using Smart Unlock on the Nexus 6 and I tend to swipe from the padlock to unlock that device (although it's not actually a widget that can be dragged on stock Lollipop, it's just habit).
Just adding a thanks, this was giving me so much grief.
So, I pretty much hate lockscreen security and never enable a secure lockscreen because for me, it's an inconvenience (let's not get into a debate about it).
With the Nexus 6P, I wanted to give all of the features a try, so I enabled the fingerprint scanner and registered my prints to get the "full" experience. I also enabled trusted devices and connected my Moto 360, trusted faces, and trusted voices. For me, this means I should pretty much never see a PIN Lock screen, yet I have been getting it randomly all the time. Am I missing something?
It's completely random. The phone can be sitting on the table for a few minutes, I'll get an email/SMS and if I tap on it on Ambient display, sometimes it'll take me to the message and sometimes it will ask for a PIN (or fingerprint). My watch is still on my wrist. Sometimes, I go to unlock the phone with my fingerprint and it prompts me for my PIN out of the blue. And putting in my PIN is the only way to get it to let me in.
At this point, I'm ready to just turn it all off. I was only using it for faster unlocking and Google Play Purchases. I was never going to to use Android Pay because of the forced locksreen security and if this is how it's going to behave, I know I can't. Is anyone else having this issue? My phone is completely stock other than an unlocked bootloader.
I bought two Galaxy S7 Edge phones recently and have noticed this issue on both phones now. Both are also updated to the latest firmware. Both of us have fingerprints set up and a pattern backup. So far, the issue has occurred to us both twice. I happen to always use my fingerprint to unlock and she always uses pattern out of habit from a past phone. She brought it to me a couple of days ago and said her phone says to wait 60 minutes and try again. I asked how many times she entered it wrong, because of course I thought she entered it wrong. She said she didn't enter it incorrectly. I asked if she tried to reboot, of course not. Anyways, I held on to it and after 60 minutes I entered the pattern to unlock her phone and sure enough it wouldn't work. I rebooted, and tried again and it worked. OK...Weird.
The very next day, it happened on my phone. I always use my fingerprint though so it told me no match found. Say what? Tried again. Same thing. OK, swipe and tried my pattern. It says its incorrect and to try again in 30 seconds. 30 seconds later, I tried again and it locked me out for 60 seconds. This time I rebooted, and after it was done and 60 seconds had passed my pattern was working again.
I don't get why it randomly seems to not recognize that we are putting in the correct pattern or fingerprint. I am however happy that a reboot seems to resolve the issue. Is no one else experiencing this?
Mine doesn't lock instead!
So I tried couple of things. Rebooted, re-initialized Finger Prints and even pattern. Now matter what I do, it won't lock the phone. It will just unlock without asking for passcode, pattern, password or fingerprint. Only option I can think of is to restore the phone and try setting up lock option but that's pain in the a**!! I tried third party apps as to lock screen but none of them have the fingerprint unlock option! And some have ads and weird setup which worked... Gettting frustrating. Perhaps I should try restoring phone if there's no other option left

Entirely different. I'm not sure this is actually an issue as much as it is probably settings. Go to settings, Lock screen and security, Secure lock settings. Check how long Lock automatically is set for (mine is for 5 seconds after the screen turns off automatically and that is set for 2 minutes.). Then turn on lock instantly with power key. Go to smart lock and see if that's being used. IF it is it would keep your phone unlocked when its connected via Bluetooth to a device you told it to trust, or when you are at a trusted place via google maps (such as home or work), or it could simply know your voice, or lastly if it senses that it is on your body (I don't get this one. Seems very insecure, like anyone could pick it up and it would just unlock.). Good luck!

Forgot to mention, have done all of that. First I had it set Lock Automatically to immediately and tried 5 seconds, 15 seconds to all the 30 minutes, still won't lock (over night till I wok up in the morning)
Smart Lock:
Trusted Device are my car and my watch, but even with bluetooth disabled (just to give it a shot) it still doesn't lock.
Trusted Place: my home, but even with Location Service (GPS) turned off, still won't lock
On body Detection = Off
Trusted Voice = Off
Tried updating phone perhaps something may fix it, nothing.
Tried Security Policy updates and that says ... updated to latest version...
Been using Android since good old HTC Evo days and had no issue with my (last) Note 4 locking with fingerprint!! I love this phone really expect for this issue. Oh yes and another issue, gestures won't work also!!! Tried hand gestures for screenshot, nothing. Smart Stay doesn't work also!!!
Is something wrong with this phone perhaps??

Hmm.. Have you tried turning off Smart lock all together? Otherwise, all I can think is to factory reset settings before you factory reset the phone.
Factory Settings Reset did it
Factory Settings Reset did it however gestures and smart stay are still issues!! Then I courage myself to do Factory Phone Reset and dang the issue with the gestures persists!!
Bump.
No one else is having this issue? I just happened to be the only one with two new phones that do it?
This literally just happened to me! I was walking to a friend's house and was using the phone just fine - was using Facebook Messenger and Spotify. All of a sudden, I try to unlock it (I have a pattern to draw, not a code) and it doesn't work. I have no idea what's going on but I don't want to factory reset and lose all my contacts and pictures. I only have four tries left to unlock it before it automatically resets itself. I've tried using the Android Device Manager to set a temporary password but since there's already a pattern to draw it won't bypass the lock screen for some reason. I never thought to check the security settings on my phone (why would I if I had a lock screen on it?) so I can't use the Samsung equivalent either. I'm extremely frustrated - been looking for help for about an hour and I'm finding absolutely nothing. It's clearly been a problem before and yet there's no solutions or explanations as to why it's happening??
While I am still having this issue sparsely, I can get around it simply by rebooting. It's just annoying to have to do so.
It's anew feature of S7 called SMART LOCK, meaning your phone knows if you're in a safe place such as your Home, your Car or if you paired a smart watch with your phone and added it as trusted device, as long as you're connected to your watch, the phone knows you're in a safe place so you dont need to enter password to your phone. Or if youre in your car or at Home, then you wont need to enter password to open your phone. But if you want to remove this feature and want to swipe or enter your pin no matter where you are then do this..go to:
SETTING>LOCK SCREEN & SECURITY>SECURE LOCK SETTING>SMART LOCK. Here you'll see "Trusted Places" and "Trusted Device" Just edit or press and hold whatever is in there, e.i your watch, your home address etc...then remove and you should be good to go.

I own the Verizon variant of the V20. I'm coming from a rooted Samsung Galaxy S5 in which I used Tasker to do a lot of things that are now (allegedly) handled natively in the V20. I've been experimenting with and researching Smart Lock and have had no success.
Thanks to Tasker, I'm used to NOT having to unlock my phone, as long as I'm connected to my WiFi, and having it automatically lock as soon as I'm out of range of my home WiFi. Smart Lock looked like it was going to be a decent replacement for this, as it could be configured based on your location, facial recognition, connection to a trusted device, etc.
However, I'm finding that Smart Lock does not work. At all. None of the options will unlock the phone. I'd continue to use my Tasker tasks and call it a day, but unfortunately, in order to unlock the phone, Secure Settings requires root in order to accomplish this.
I want my phone to be secure as I would someday like to start using Android Pay (not activated at this time). However, I don't want to have to type in my PIN when I'm at home. So, for now, as far as security goes, it's pretty much all or nothing.
I've tried various substitute apps from the Play Store that look at WiFi to unlock the phone, but they don't work, either.
Has anyone else run into this? Were you able to overcome it? If so, how did you do it?
Another oddity I noticed is that no matter what locking method I use to lock my V20, when I unlock the device, I must first swipe the screen before it will bring me to the unlock method I selected. This is my first LG phone. Is this typical behavior for these devices?
Smartlock works for me. I have the Sprint version. When I connect to my home wifi I do have to enter my password once. After that, I only have to enter the password after 4 hours of inactivity.

I have the Verizon variant as well, they disabled most of the smart lock features that you are looking for. It works for me because I have it set to unlock when connected to my smart watch. But it is still aggravating they Verizon does this stuff.

Thanks for the responses, guys! Looks like I've been able to get it working... to a point. I have Nova Launcher installed and have defined the double tap gesture to turn off the screen. Discovered that on my LG V20 with Nougat, this doesn't just turn off the screen. It locks it. If I turn off the screen using the power button, it works as it should.
This does not happen on my wife's LG V10 with Lollipop. On that device, the same software and gesture will turn off the screen, but it won't lock it.
In either case, one must still swipe to unlock the display, regardless of whether or not it's locked. Research indicates this is something Google implemented with version 5 of Android (until very recently, I was using 4.4).
So I've written to the developer of Nova Launcher to ask what, if anything, can be done. I'll post the results here when I have them.

I heard from the developer of Nova Launcher. Here's what he had to say:
...
Unfortunately this is a known issue in which there is a pop-up window within Nova that tells you about this and that there is a work around if you are rooted. Unfortunately there's no native work around if you're not rooted, however, you can go to the Google Play Store and purchase Screen Lock Pro (this app is not ours) and you can use it as a work around for this issue as well.
If you join the beta program, then follow these steps.
To get Screen Lock to appear in Nova Settings perform the following steps.
1) Have a device with a fingerprint scanner.
2) Set your security to use a PIN to unlock your device.
3) Set Double Tap gesture to Screen Lock.
4) Double Tap to turn off the device.
5) A popup window will appear asking you to choose one of two options.
6) Screen Lock should then show up within Nova Settings after that.
...
I opted to purchase Screen Lock Pro and configure Nova Launcher to launch the shortcut for that app when the screen is double-tapped.
All in all, this method works. There just one caveat: When you double tap and the shortcut is launched, your screen AND the second screen will both go blank for about 30 seconds (not that although there's no picture, the backlight remains on during this time). After that time, the second screen will come back. If you need to unlock your device prior to that, it will be necessary for you to press the power button twice. The first time locks the screen (evidently because Screen Lock Pro only darkens your screen for the first 30 seconds, and THEN locks it), the second time will turn the screen back on. Pressing once will display your second screen. There does not seem to be an adjustment to shorten this time interval.
Also, it's important to turn on Smart Lock and Fingerprint Sensor in the settings of Screen Lock Pro.
I've been using this as described and I can live with it.
All this being said, I'm going to request a feature enhancement from the developer of Screen Lock Pro to see if we can get that interval to be adjustable.
Oh, and I'm using my fingerprint for security, and I've found that unlocking the phone with my fingerprint means I don't have to swipe after unlocking. After several days, I've gotten used to this method and it works well for me, even away from home.
I hope this helps.
Is there anyone experiencing that no matter what lock I use, my phone always allows me to just swipe up once to unlock? I tried facial unlock & that works flawlessly, but I also added the secondary pattern and I still swipe up once and my phone just unlocks completely. I also disabled facial recognition with just primary pattern or number lock as the security and the phone still opens right up like no security is on it at all.
Anyone have a solution for this or does this seem like another bug for a future update?
Settings>Display>Navigation Bar>"Unlock with home button" - is this enabled or in any way related to what you're experiencing? Just a guess

Do you allow Smart Lock on a network or attached device? What you're describing is the phone's behavior when connected to a Smart Lock approved device.

That's what is doing it. I had my Asus Zenwatch 2 listed as a trusted device in Smart Lock and my phone was doing the same thing. I removed all trusted devices and now I have to use my pin, finger print or irises to unlock my phone.

So it's this a bug? Trusted devices should unlock only when phone is connected or in vicinity to them.
Also seeing this same behaviour. My home wifi is a trusted device and obviously it unlocks when I'm connected to it, but now for the second time I've been away from home for over 2 hours and it happily unlocks with just swipe. It only asks for biometrics if I reboot the phone. So it seems that there's a bug in trusted sources whereby it believes its still connected to wifi for some time after you disconnect!
I had to disable my trusted place (home) even though I was 100km away to fix the issue.
Lock Security not Working
It may also be the On-Body Detection is set to ON under the Smart Lock feature
The way I fixed mine after reading all of these posts was Settings>Lock Screen and Security>Secure Lock Settings>(Enter Pin or whatever security option you have enabled)>Secured Lock Time>, then add the diode to the first selection, "Instantly with the power key or when the screen times out." Then it prompted my security feature everytime the phone locked. When adding a timeout period if you lock with the lock button for some reason it thinks you did it by choice (owner) and figures you will open it without the need to input security feature. I have everything mentioned above off so, I was baffled as to why it didn't prompt my pin option. Now timeout or self lock (by owner) it prompts pin all the time. Hope this helps.
Note 8
Mine has the same issue. but i dont have any trusted devices. i think its a bug in the software. It only asks for pin or iris scan after a couple of minutes being locked otherwise i can just swipe and it unlocks which is ****.
Don't do hard resets, login to the samsung account, go to find my mobile, then unlock your phone from there, it will delete the password. It will tell you to use a pin for access to samsung and the phone etc. Add the pin into the phone, then unlock the phone when you're on the phone screen. This will wipe off the passcode, this is so your settings don't keep restarting (happened to my note 8). Next part is to clear credentials in the settings and reset settings. None your data, apps will be affected, just the theme and basic security stuff. Now you can finally reset your pattern to however to you want it to be. As good as gold! Hope this helps.
Thanks a lot. I finally figured out what the issue was. My On-Body-Detection in the Smart Lock settings was On.
Just go to Setting -->Lock Screen and Security --> Smart Lock. Deactivate all the options there.
I have a Moto E4 and I have a secondary pattern up and everytime I swipe up it unlocks it instead of making me put in the pattern
