You can follow other guides. I tried it once. It's pretty simple. There is a build.prop edit (I think it's setting ro.build.type to userdebug) and then enabling multi window in developer options.

It seemed stable enough but it's not very user friendly. It took a little while to figure out the controls. It's not very straightforward and a little confusing. There's no X or anything at the top of the window to close it which is weird and you can't swipe it away either. It has to been done in the task manager. And then I kept getting spammed in the notification bar by Motorola for feedback on Attentive display, which I was using by the way. If you're not using it you shouldn't have that problem and I think that's from making the build user debug. But it is experimental so I would expect some bugs or they would have put it the final version.

Firs of all, excuse me for my english..
Hi, my Nexus 4 is coming (Hallelujah)...
So I have around 2 weeks to find more informations about customizing the Nexus 4.. the only thing which is interesting me (for the moment..) is to customize the Navigation Bar (waste of place ^^).
I found this which look awesome, called "PIE" : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020336
But I heard about modifying a lot of other things, such as bootloader, kernel etc... but I don't know a lot about these things... it's worth it for me to learn ? if yes, why ? I realy want a stable thing
By the way, what happen if I brick my Nexus 4 ? Google would say me to put my **** in my ass ?
Is there somewhere in the forum a good guide which say "what to do" with the Nexus 4 ?
Thanks !

Bahahaha! Best thing I've read all day.
It is very worth it to learn. The only ways to get a true hard brick that I know of are a) hardware failure, b) corrupted/improperly flashed bootloader c) corrupted/improperly flashed modem.
Avoid b and c and you'll be OK.
Pie comes with the newer builds of ParanoidAndroid. A less developed version of it is built into LMT Launcher. Both are great.

Thanks you very much for your reply, but what do you mean by "b and c" ? ^^
Edit: ahh ok sorry
I would delete this message, but it looks like I can't, so why the EDIT/DELETE button ?! xD

If your reading comprehension in English is that bad, maybe you should hold off on rooting your phone, unless you find guides in your native language. I'm being serious. Make SURE you understand the steps in the guides you follow. Don't just jump in blindly.
I listed three things that could cause a hard brick and labeled them "a," "b" and "c."
Edit: Haha. OK, good.
Hi,
He mean that you try to flash a non Nexus 4 or flash a file corruped during the download (check the md5 to avoid that) kernel (b) and radio (c).
To use PIE (included in PA or RootBox) check that to keep the status bar : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2129209
We are here to help you, just ask !

What I did for me because I wanted to disable the return soft key ; it was a pain when in camera mode it always closed the application.
I installed UDN first as replacement see result in post 1273.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2270198&page=128
AND then I followed instructions given at this link: post 7

already done, saved & rebooted, they're still working
That sound very strange, like your file modification isn't taken into consideration by the SW.
this worked very fine for me, i am (still) with Prism 4.3 Rom and may be 4.4 is different at this point.
If you have time to investigate this will avoid me to rush on moving to fresh KK as I am satisfied with Prism.

i know..i tried everything, from flashable zips to build.prop editors, and none of them worked
Just went over to sprint the other day and got this version that ha 5.1.1 installed out of the box. Been searching around and have yet to find anything that even list this version/build but see many others listed.
Is there a root/Pre-root rom that will work on this variant?
I second this! I have been searching for any info on rooting this specific device without luck! I don't mind doing research on how to do it and finding out how my self, just can't find anything at all to do so thus far!
Root for SM-G530P
I third this someone please help...
Before you get into flashing anything on the device....please be sure to enable OEM Unlocking under developers option.
Also, there seems to be a twrp recovery, however, I have not tested it out myself yet...when I do so I will let you all know if it's success or not.
Another thing, I think it's highly possible that the phone will require a "permissive" kernel...not too sure yet. I will advise shortly...
Ok I got news. The phone has been semi-rooted, I was right...it requires a permissive kernel in order for the phone to boot up once more. The people that come in mind when it comes to permissive sprint kernels are Freeza & Djvoleur. They can probably cook something up if they have the source code for this phone already.... also, we need a working twrp or philz recovery.... the ones provided do not work... meaning that it would be redundant to have a permissive kernel...if we don't have a working custom recovery to flash it over with.... unless there's another way to flash the zip file or maybe just the boot.img? I will keep updating this if I find anything further...

Wow sounds like this is it! Can't wait to try it when I get back home. Thanks for the updates guys!
EDIT: It works great, thanks for looking out and thanks for the work put into this to bring us root to our devices.
Now if I could just find a ROM for this thing that would make it a bit less bloated and run a bit smoother that will make it all worth while.

Nice walls phunkee, like the fractal ones, very retro! Only weird thing on my handset tho, is when i apply the theme using hdwalls, i have to switch off / switch on, to get the top and bottom curtains to change. If i simply do a soft reset, it puts standard grey top/bottom curtains up. Happens with all downloaded themes, ones ive made myself, everything. Odd!

Hi, the battery life of my s7edge just sucks, it's the same of my old rooted note 3. I want to install a custom rom, but i use and i love knox, so I'm asking you guys if someone with some patch or zips, installed a multi user function. I'd like to install a note 7 porting. Did someone tried this ?
I just want to replace knox, if i found a legit alternative to a secondary ambient like it I'm going to install a rom instantly.
Thank u all

As I stumbled during my search over your thread, I wanted to make it easier to other "searchers"
Hey folks!
I have the US version, a1612 STOCK ROM. There is no app launcher listed in the LAB menu. I rooted the device, went into ADB shell, and found:
android.software.launcherapps
But I am uncertain if this is the property I need to focus on or what value to set. I believe it may be an array (from what I did find) so I don't want to mangle anything. Has anyone managed to enable the hidden launcher on this device? I did search so if this has been answered I apologize. perhaps my search metrics were poor. Thanks in advance!

Thank you. Unfortunately, his instructions do not work on 1.3.1m. If you think you can help, i'll continue my quest on that thread.
