Hey guys, I got an oddly specific question.
I bought a Lenovo tablet for an in dash tablet install. I was going to just tether to get data for Google Maps. I get into the car, turn tethering on, but the tablet doesn't even see the network. Entering the SSID and password manually does nothing, still can't connect. I tried changing frequency from 2.4GHz to 5GHz and back, changing the SSID to just letters and no numbers, even removing the security entirely. Nothing. I thought it was the tablet that's at fault. I take my Surface Pro 4 and try. It sees the network but fails to connect.
When I'm at home or at work, tethering works fine on both devices. So it isn't the tablet. It's something to do with the phone. In the car (2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder) the phone is connected via Bluetooth to my stereo and that's it. It isn't the location of the device, I tried in a dash mount, on my lap, and in the passenger seat. It isn't the location of the car either, I tried in my garage, at the end of the block, and about a mile away. Same deal, doesn't work.
Any thoughts to what could be happening?
Ignore my sig, it's ancient.
Alright, it's the car. I step out, the hotspot works. I get back in, hotspot stops working. Forget I said anything, unless someone has any idea why this is.

I've been trying for 3 days to connect to either my home, work or Starbucks on my K-Jam and have not been able to do it. I can see the network, but all it does is say "connecting" and goes no where. I'm really really frustrated. GPRS works fine.
So, to those that have connected, did you make any changes to any settings, did you remove anything, did you add anything???? Throw me a bone here. Are there log files? Matter of fact, on my home router, I can see that my MAC address has been listed on my router as an attached device, but I can't get on.
Thanks,
Tom
I figured it out. Stupid on my part. I have a new wireless router (Netgear WPN824) that has this MIMO and 108Mbps feature on it....wifi on speed type of thing. Well, I had it set to Auto so that it would cover b and g and Super G. I guess the "auto" feature doesn't work too well. I switched it over to B and G and I got on right away...several times as a matter of fact, during testing. Now, the key is to go to Starbucks and see why I can't get on there.
Case closed.

Hi, I just got my A7. I got it to connect to my wifi router. WEP etc, but connected fine. Problem is that it disconnects within a minute or 2. I have to go to settings and turn the wifi back on, then back to app to get online or whatever. Sometimes it shuts off before I get back to app and get online again. Tried to download angry birds, but it shut off before finished. The router is a Netgear WNR1000 B/G/N with B/G/N all turned on. It is in the room right under me, about 5 or 6 feet away through the floor. I get wifi on laptop great, even out in the yard or out in the street (in car). Kids and wife laptop use G everywhere in the house with no prob,
Any help? I tried the Elocity hotline, but only open 9-5 M-F. I just got it and it is 7pm on friday night.
Thanks.

64 bit or 128 bit WEP?
I am using 64bit WEP with no issue. But I have heard of people having problems with Android+WEP and I suspect it is a 128 bit key problem.
I use my A7 with my router with the WPA2 encryption. Some routers have flaky firmware so I updated my router with ddwrt firmware.
Also sometimes make sure the wireless channel on your router is not crowded by other routers in the proximity. So download the WiFi Analyzer to see which channels are less crowded. When the channel is crowded sometimes I lose the connection due to the interference from other routers.

Got it working.
Ok, I fiddled with it for several hours. powered off and back on several times, and after pushing the reset button on the back for the 3rd reset, it just suddenly started to work.
I did get Dexters mod 1.41 installed along with a large # of apps. Wifi is somewhat slow and week, may have to try the antenna swap I saw in another thread.
Thanks for the help.
grab a little app from the market called 'Keep WiFi' and put a wifi switch widget on your home screen. This should be a big help. I had the same problem after flashing the new dexter patch, but this app keeps it on I have to throw the switch off and back on after restarting my A7
theres a nice stock widget called powercontrol w a wifi toggle on it. i prefer it on a7 and x10.

I am having problems with my Nexus 4 not automatically connecting to Wi-Fi. This is particularly annoying as I only live a few minutes from Uni so I spend the day cycling between my home network, uni network and 3G and set tasker to do things based on where I am. However, I look at my phone it tells me I have plenty of wifi signal yet it hasn't connected. This means I either have to switch the wi-fi off and on (which seems to take longer than it should to switch back on) or reboot the phone. After this it will connect fine. Is this a software issue? Or something that is just wrong with my phone?
Cheers
I too have wifi connection problems with my Nexus 4. I can get it to connect, but it won't reconnect. Not only does it not reconnect, it doesn't even detect that the network it was just configured to connect to is sitting right in front of it.
I've tried using Wifi Analyser, and it will show all the wifi signals in my area including those of my neighbours across the street, but it simply doesn't even show my wifi signal. Oddly in Settings, sometimes my wifi signal is not listed at all (reflecting Wifi Analyser's view), and sometimes it is listed but shown as 'Not in range'. It is very frustrating, and the only reason I have not yet RMA back to Google is I have a slight hope that the next update (4.2.2) will fix it.
Needless to say, I have a number of other devices at home (Lenovo and HP laptops, iOS tablets and phone, Windows RT tablet, Windows Phone, and Nexus 7) all of which connect to my home network OK. It is clearly a bug in the Nexus 4.
I had the same problem as you guys, i flashed Franco Kernal and it works a treat now.
Not forgetting the extra battery life the kernel provides.
I suggest trying it out.
The goofy title says it all. I want to leave my Nexus 7 in my truck all the time, turned on, and have it automatically hook up to my GS4 through Bluetooth whenever its close enough to connect. So far I have the mount and have balanced out the charger so it barely charges more than it uses. I have increased my battery by only about 5% in three days. I realize I may need more power if I do much more than leave the screen on all the time and I can adjust for that.
I would like to be able to run Waze and Escort Live on my Gen1 N7 that doesn't have its own internet connection. I leave the Bluetooth enabled on my GS4 all the time and when I get in my truck it automatically connects to the Ford Sync so that part is good. What I would also like is for the N7 to connect to GS4 and get an internet connection without any intervention by me. I would rather not use WiFi tethering as it doubt my phone could handle that all day long.
Is this possible?
Really? Nobody does this?
I tried Easy tether from the Play Store today with my N10 but haven't tried it yet with my N7. It seems rather slow, and I am not sure yet if it connects automatically.
After installing the audio patch update, and switching FireStarter to non-ADB detection my WiFi remote went back to dropping out again. First time it's happened since I first set up the (unused) WiFi connection.
Rebooting didn't help. Switching FireStarter back to ADB had no effect. I was about to give up and contact Amazon.
And then, just for a laugh I pulled out the LAN cable, and then plugged it back in.
Whaddyaknow, back to normal again.
Which leads me to ask: has anyone got anything positive to say about this remote? It's supposed to have better battery life. That might very well be true: it's way too early to say. And it's supposed to have lower latency. Can't say I've seen any evidence of that.
Anyone?
Haven't had it dropped out since the patch, always connected by ethernet.
..
One strange thing is Kodi reports its IP as 192.168.49.1, not sure if it's the remote's wifi IP.
wifi direct is a terrible standard. you can see many bad reviews of the roku stick 3500r because of it's remote that constantly has issue with wifi direct. I don't know why Amazon stupidly decided to go with it.
