Restore back up from google - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to do this outside of initial set up?

Do you mean select which back up to restore, no.

That sucks because when try to restore when it updates googleplay services it hangs and stays hanging and not restoring the apps

Restoring Phone Settings from Google?

In some cases after doing a wipe and installing a new cyanogenmod ROM, after signing in with my Google account, it automatically restores some system settings (notably my WiFi WPA keys) and automatically reinstalls most of my market apps. This time it didn't. Also, it doesn't seem to do so with the stock ROM.
What determines when this does or doesn't happen and is there any way to force a restore?
Thanks!
You could try going to settings-accounts-and sync all with your google account. Otherwise it may have been some weird fluke
Yeah, I tried that but it didn't do anything.
My theory is the first time you sign in with a new ROM google thinks it's a new phone. So it restores all of your applications automatically. But if you go back to a ROM you have used before it thinks everything is still on the phone so it doesn't push anything.
Thus a 3rd party back up app is needed if you flop ROMS alot.
I guess that makes sense. Although, the phone itself has a factory reset option, so you would think there would also be an option to restore certain settings on any clean phone. Something Google needs to work on. I have everything back anyway through Titanium Backup, but I'm reluctant to restore system settings like WiFi passwords. I'll just have to put them back manually, which isn't so bad thanks to lastpass...
Are you using a 2.3.4 rom? I thought I read that there were some issues with google restore and 2.3.4 but I could be wrong.
Yes, I'm on 2.3.4...

Titanium backup help...

So out of no where yesterday I was exasperating market crashes with ACS ICS v5.5. So I reflashed the rom (doing the standard 3x cleans) and when I restored from Titanium my SMS, call logs, wifi settings, and basically nothing but the apps and app data came back. I looked on there wiki and made sure all my setting where right (they are) and i even manually went in to flash just SMS and other data and even thought it says it completed fine it does not come back. The only thing i can think is my last back up went bad somehow (yes i did verify my back up once it was done)? Does anybody know a way for my to go back and flash a older back? I cant find a way to select older back ups.
Did you choose to restore system apps AND data?
I had the same problem before, i notice that the sms and other things can only be restored when you restore them to that rom.

[Q] Unfortunately, Google Play services has stopped

This started a few days ago unexpectedly. I hadn't installed anything or made any changes. Whenever I start a Google app (like Hangouts) I get this message. I tap OK and then the app works. But the next time I start the same app, I get the message again.
I've tried clearing the cache for Google Play Services and Google Play Store. I tried Uninstall Updates for Google Play Store. Uninstall Updates is grayed out for Google Play Services though. Clear Data is grayed out for both.
Any ideas?
Update
It appears to be only Hangouts and Gmail that cause the error message popup. I tried restoring a Titanium backup of Hangouts, but it was the same.
The only other thing I can think of is to restore a nandroid backup.

If you have TiBu have you considered backing it all up and doing a factory reset? Not sure if a restore would restore your previous problems as well though. However, maybe a selective restore from TiBu after a factory reset?

This is probably what I will try after trying the nandroid restore. The problem is time, I won't have time to mess with it until the weekend.

[Q] Gapps loop

Every single time I try to restore a backup I always wipe data, cache and dalvik and then I restore the backup made with clockwormod in the clockworkmod recovery. But I always get the next message: ''Unfortunately the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped'' which is very frustrating because I have to press ok everytime it appears and every time I close it, it opens again; so I can't use my phone. Also, Google Play, Dropbox, Googe partner setup and I get those messages too. I've searched for help on many sites and they keep telling me to go to apps manager and stop download manager, google play services, google framework, etc. And I managed to go to settings and do it in the only second I have between closing the message and it opening itself again. But it didn't work. Also I wiped cache and dalvik after restoring but still get the loop. The only thing I can do to stop the loop is wiping data but I don't want to lose my data (that's why I made the backup that doesn't work now). I also tried advanced restore and restored everything but data, I didn't get either the loop or the data. And when I restored only data in advanced restore I got the loop. Also I tried flashing the gapps for Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat from recovery but still got the loop. Maybe it happens because I had uninstalled most of the google apps that came as system apps using ROM ToolBox pro?

Is there any way to turn on google restore AFTER the initial boot?

I want to be able to restore apps and settings AFTER I am done setting up some other features on the phone. It can take forever to restore apps and data so Id rather do that overnight or some time more convenient. The only way I have been able to get Restore to work is at initial bootup after entering your google info. Is there any way to turn Restore on later instead?
Just curious, but what other features are you wanting to set up first? The Google restore option restores settings as well.
Only other option would require root, that I can think of...
