Settings>System>Volume Mode>CEC volume control BROKEN - Shield Android TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The SATV Remote Control is a fantastic piece of kit and it would make the SATV the ultimate Home Entertainment device if only it did what it was supposed to do. The SATV is supposed to be able to control your surround sound receiver amplifier and tv through HDMI CEC - switching on and off these devices is at best tempermental, at worst it doesn't control the Home Theatre Receiver Amp volume through HDMI CEC. When you have Settings>System>Volume Mode> set to "CEC volume control" and you attempt to control the volume, you get an error from the Android Console saying "This App is set for Surround Sound, Use the TV remote to adjust the volume.
I contacted nVidia support yesterday about it and am hoping to hear back from them with a proposed resolution.
having only one remote control in the living room is a must for me
Here's a transcript of the conversation, just changed my name and the Nvidia Representative's.
Nvidia: Hi, my name is Nvidia. How may I help you?
Me: Hi Nvidia
Me: I'm looking for help with my Shield Android TV pleras
Me: please
Me: My Shield Android TV connected to a Yamaha RX-V379. When can I expect my Shield remote to perform as advertised and support HDMI-CEC? Volume control just throws up an Android console message when attempting to control the volume
Me: It's an issue with everyone.
Nvidia: Sorry for any inconvenience you've been through, I'll try my best to help you with this .
Nvidia: could you please elaborate ?
Me: being discussed on the geforce support forums here https://forums.geforce.com/default/...e-gt-cec_volume_control-broken-please-fix-/1/
Nvidia: let me check
Me: Elaborate. The Shield remote is supposed to control HDMI-CEC volume, it doesnt.
Nvidia: does it get controller via the controller?
Me: The gamepad? no
Me: same error
Nvidia: ok, please wait
Me: Android console pops up a message saying the volume is "pass-through" and is being controlled by Receiver/Amplifier
Me: However the remote/gamepad is supposed to control HDMI CEC volume i.e. the receiver volume.
Nvidia: did you try toggling volume control to CEC?
Nvidia: Settings-> Device - > volume mode
Me: I did - it makes no difference. Did you get a chance to read the comments on the link to the Geforce forum?
Nvidia: reading as we speak
Nvidia: please wait
Me: OK, no problem
Nvidia: I'll get back via email on this
Nvidia: give me sometime
Me: OK, do you mind if I just post on the Geforce forum that you're helping with this?
Nvidia: yes you can
Nvidia: I'll have this case escalated ,
Me: That's great, thanks. It's the only issue that I have with this fantastic piece of kit.
Nvidia: let me know if the receivers remote /controller helps you control the volume ?
Me: Thanks a million for your help
Me: Bye
Nvidia: let me know if the receivers remote /controller helps you control the volume ?
Me: It does
Me: on the receiver!
Nvidia: ok, let me know the firmware version of the remote as well please
Me: How do I find that?
Nvidia: under SHIELD accessories
Me: ok.. v0.68
Nvidia: -> Go to the settings
-> From the first list of options, slide towards right side and go to the option called "About"
-> Select the second option called "Send feedback to NVIDIA"
-> Select "NVIDIA Customer Care sent me"
-> In the comments, please mention "HDMI CEC volume control issue -Case number * "
-> Enter a brief description
-> Submit the feedback.
*Once we get disconnected you will get a email copy with the chat script, and the case umber, you need to use that
Nvidia: ok?
Me: I'm there now! Thanks
Nvidia: you're welcome , I'll disconnect the chat now
Me: Great
Me: thanks for your help
Me: Bye
Nvidia: bye
Nvidia has disconnected.

Bluetooth Remote control for a pda ??

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Its not to use a PDA as a remotecontrol, but looking for a small BT remote control for a PDA.
On some boards other people looking for same, but nobody knows.
A small device like a remote contol for car alarm.
I tried a BT headset , but found no way to get the button status
programaticaly .
Anyone has an idea ??
Could you please explain what you want to do?
I did not quite understand you.
Do you want to remote controle your PPC via Bluetooth and Desktop PC or are you looking for a remote controle to do something with your PPC while you are a few meters away.
I never heard of such a thing though...
Greets
Alex
i look for 2nd.
I can do this with my mobile phone, sent keystrokes via BT to PPC and use this programmatically.
But look for smaller device . like a headset, cause I cant put my mob phone on a keyring ;-)
But cant find such a small BT device ( like remotecontrol for car alarm)
also cant figure out how to get the signals when a button ön a headset is pressed.
Could you please give us some examples of successful usage of mobile phone for remote control? It can be interesting and funny.
There is software to use a fone as BT remote control for a PC or a Mac.
Name is Bemused ( dunno if i spell it right ).
You can use this to control MediaPlayer etc. on ur PC.
But I am looking for a small solution for a PDA, to start an app on a PDA when I am a few meters away.
okay, imagine this.
i'm walking in the school campus and someone (hopefully a pretty girl) comes up to me and wants to talk to me while i'm listening to mp3 on my pocket-pc and i have the small bluetooth remote control clipped to my shirt. i can simply click the button that i assigned to 'pause' to stop the music. then talk to that person and then press the 'resume' button when i'm done to resume the music.
all without having to pull the device out of my pocket and turn it on and all that stuff...
what do you think?
Hi msafi!
I think this is what you are looking for:

If you're going bluetooth, you might as well use a full keyboard credit card sized.
Please send me one if you have one spare!

Anyone tried teh ir range for use as a TV remote control?

I know most PDAs only have a small IR range. Has anybody tried the wizzard with one of the many pocket pc remote control software? What was your range like?
I tried noviiremote deluxe and right when i opened up the app it told me that the wizards device is incompatible with the program. so i guess wait for an update on that app, but they're many more remote control apps. give some of them a shot and see for yourself maybe?

No other remote app will work - none of them supports the TI CPU. You may want to check out http://pocketpcmag.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=17874 for more info.
THat's annoying. On my old SE P800, the tv remote worked srom as far away as I could get, come 8 meters!
There is also something else why remote control software won’t work.
IR-DA hardware is not compatible to work as a remote control transmitter because it is mend to be for data communication between two IR-DA devices.
But if your PDA can do it anyway then there is extra hardware build in to do this.
The HP2210 can do this and it worked wonderful.
I’ve been in several waiting room where televisions where shouting all the time. And with the 2210 I could switch them off or lower there volume
Cheers,
Drifter

I'm looking for BT remote control

FM Radio via Bluetooth Headset

To one and all,
Two purposes for this thread:
Generally - I'm hoping it will be a good place for all the people (like me) that have tried to get a solution for this issue in so many forums (over so many years)and have simply been told "you need the wired headset for an antenna", to register their interest in a solution - hopefully a bit of chat and interest will finally yeild a solution. A simple +1 should suffice.
Specifically - I listen to FM Radio via my wired headset on my windows mobile device for about 3 hours a day what I would like to do:
I would like to use my wired headset (or some alternate antenna solution - for me to choose, ultimately providing a suitably strong FM signal to my device).
I will then conceal this antenna (depending what it is will depend how I do it (no rude remarks required ;o) )) and then put the mobile phone and the antenna in my pocket.
I then want to listen to FM radio via free to air (not streamed via the internet - data in AUS is expensive, I don't want a sub thread about who I'm with and alternate data plans) A2DP compliant bluetooth stereo headphones.
I am not asking for RDS, although I may look for a radio app with this later.
I am not asking for TMC.
I know this will drain my battery - I can manage this.
I know I could continue to use my wired heaset, however, I and many others based on my XDA and general iternet searching would like a nice simple solution to the above if any developer(s) are able to assist, I and I believe many others with similar non-existant coding skills, would appreciate it very much.
I am not intending to be rude, I have tried to be very specific about my requirements, I am trying to demonstrate that I have done some research and have hopefully highlighted that I do not need any "you need the wired headset for FM Radio therefore it can't be done" type answers.
I am very interested in this community and it's ability to rise to the "I can do that" approach which is why I am posting here.
Any feedback, greatly appreciated - especially if you can point me in the direction of a solution!
Kind regards
apj_apj
How to hide the antenna, I do not know, just using a small adapter with USM for Jack, he was short and easy to hide from the waist bag in his pocket jeans.
Even better quality of reception.
And to transfer the sound to Bluetooth use the excellent program BTFM Radio v1.51
Thanks very much mrTag. I've downloaded the application, can't read or translate the readme.txt or the whatsnew.txt so will just have to have a go I suppose! Does anyone know where there is an English equivalent?
My new windows mobile arrives in about 2 - 3 days, my current one died, so I will let you know how I go when I get it and try it out.
Thanks again for the quick response and the possible solution to my problems!
Here is a rough translation

This sounds like the answer to my problems too. The only problem I have is the link doesn't seem to work ("resource not found" message). Any ideas?
Indeed, the site is unavailable.
You can put files here.

I've been trying to listen my HTC Topaz radio via my Bluetooth CrashHelmet.
This works - allbeit just one speaker (mono).
Great Thx!
Almost there!
@mrTAG,
I've given BTFM Radio v1.51 a try on my Acer M900 handheld. Its native FM tuner application allows toggling the sound between the wired headsets (which act as antenna) and the device's loudspeaker.
I can't read anything in russian, but I've noticed that BTFM Radio broadcasts sound to my A2DP headsets only when FM sound has been toggled to the loudspeaker, and I tap on the upper left button on the application's screen. Nevertheless, the loudspeaker sound is not cut off at all, for what I have FM sound coming from both my A2DP headsets and the device's loudspeaker. There's not much point in such a behaviour, don't you think? I wonder if I missing some settings, due to my complete ignorance in reading russian. Any hints?
Furthermore, could you give me some guidance in reading the application buttons and settings in general, because I don't have a russian keyboard to try to enter what they are showing, on an online translation tool.
Thanks, anyway.
Cheers!
Carlos
I am unfortunately not a developer program.
Try to disassemble the program and translated into English.
But I'm afraid you do not help, most likely your device is not supported
I was looking for a program like this. One question: does this app integrate well with calls? I mean, if you're listening to radio and a call is received, radio is stopped and you can handle the call? I have a a2dp headset for my helmet and it would be great to be able to listen the radio and answer the calls while riding...
Thanks!
i am going to try this program with my Samsung omnia i900.
And btw, i found out a way to translate the notepad and readme to
english. please find attached files for he english translated readme and whatsnew.txt from the files.

my Gigabyte GSmart S1200 is not supported too.
I run BTFM_Radio.exe, then press the left top button out of the four buttons, resulting in an error prompts in Russian, which I don't understand the meaning..........

I wonder if your A2DP connection was already active, before you tapped on the first button. I don't read russian either, but I remember seeing a popup window once, when I had forgotten to activate A2DP beforehand.
Well, just for the records, after e-mailing Dmitriy, the developer himself, I've been told that the 1st button is "Start", the 2nd one is "Stop", the 3rd one is "Record" (provided that you have EmzMp3EncDll.dll on your \Windows directory) and the 4th one is "Exit".
Just my 2 cents...
Cheers!

I tried it also on a Samsung Omnia i900 but it doesn't affect the radio output, unfotunately! Sill unable to listen to the radio FM on the bluetooth headset.
cool, works for me but i have the radio playing out of both my phone speeker and my bluetooth headset...
any solution? if i turn down the volume it also turns it down on headset...
waiting on my stereo BT HS, meanwhile tried with mono and dosnt work, after playing with it (i dont read russian) when i change advanced bt audio setting to just audio headset goes into feed back like mic is wid open but no radio, i am hoping it will work when i get stereo HS.
FYI i have anadapter for 3.5 & charging and that allows me to listen to radio without the HS that comes with the phone i note these have 6 pins inside ware mii usb for connecting to pc has 5.
thanks for this program either way i've been searching and its closest i've come yet.
Here is the reposted link for the app hope its of use for all
After trying al lot off "software-solutions". I've got the best result with a little conector on my HTC Touch Diamond2 T5353 (HTC Topaz 100).
It's a little thing wich you can plug in via mini-usb, and out there is a headphoneconnector (mini-usb), mini-usb and an audio-jack.
In the audio-jack I plug in my bluetooth adaptor (dongle) of my blackbeat906 headset.
So I save my phonebattery and the adaptor works as an fm-antenna.
Hi ,
Much appreciate your having posted this file in the forum as its unavailable at the earlier mentioned url, however I'm unable to download it it gets downloaded as a .php file and not the .zip file its meant to be.
Also would this work on sony ericsson Elm ( I need a Java version please....)which has its inbuilt RDS radio.
many thanks
Best Regds
Tom
PS: are you able to re-post and or redirect me to the right place for the above please?

Voice commands don't work as advertised

When I tell my tablet or my phone to "play some [artist]" it will open Google Play Music and start playing songs by that artist. If do the same on my Shield TV (from homescreen by pushing the Nvidia button) it will start a search for that exact sentence, which makes the microphone fairly useless. It will only do literal searches nothing I say is interpreted as a command.
I'm running a rooted 2.1 stock rom and using the included Shield controller. Using Android TV remote app doesn't help. It's been this way through multiple factory resets.
Has anybody else had this happen? Any suggestions?
Got my Shield TV yesterday.
The voice search when pressing the OK Google button on Controller and remote does not work.
It inputs the voice command and then says "Did not catch that" or something like that.
When i type in the search it shows results.
Voice in Youtube works perfectly.
I am thinking about doing a reset

Yup, same problem here.
What language are you using it with? Is it English like the Irish flag under your name might suggest?

I am using English GB
Another guy from the UK on a shield owners thread that he was facing the same issue, so it may be an issue on Google's end.
It recognizes it and inputs when i say "open Google Music" but nothing happens
It varies between displaying cannot contact Google to did not catch that even though it displays "Open Google music"
Does it work for you if you use it with American English? It is for me.
I contacted the Nvidia support and was describing this issue and they told me that it's already known. I was told they are working on a fix but of course no time frame when they will fix it was given.
Thank you for trying to help. Really appreciate it.
I switched to English US just there and no joy
Funny thing is when it says to press right to start typing, it then opens Google Music.
I am glad to know it is a known issue though and will be fixed hopefully soon
It's not even working with US English? That sucks
This little 'trick' worked for me but I don't really have to mention that this is not very practicable, do I?
I also really hope they fix it very soon. Android TV is meant to be used with voice commands, Google is quite good at it and still they don't manage to make it work flawlessly
I asked for an ETA for the fix but we all know support guys, they barely know anything
It seems to have been resolved today.
English GB
You're right! It's working for me in German as well :victory:
uhms i have a similar issue, just got a new shield tv with the remote "free", now if i use the voice commands on the controller it always works, if i use it however on the remote it always works when the remote is connected via usb to the shield console, but when its not it sometimes stops working and only starts working again when i connect it, if i than disconnect it again from teh cable it wont work disconnected, but if i let it a minute or so connected, than disconnect it, than it works again for some time. Im thinking that here might be a power issue with the battery, that if its too low, it doesnt work (although it says in the shield devices, that it has "good" battery)
