Wondering what everyone is doing about this bug since the latest 6.0 update? Wait for a fix or are you reverting back to an earlier OS? I know google is aware of the problem but who knows when they will get at this.
Im wondering this as well.

i was looking to set up my new nexus player today and was wondering about this. It seems most of the ROM's are now 6.0 and i dont know if they fixed the issue or not. Trying to look for some 5.1 ROM's just in case.

Yeah my device came from Best buy and it was on 5.0. So I haven't seen the bug yet looking to flash cm 12.1 tonight and compare with pure nexus. Unlocked the device yesterday in fastboot.

This bug is still there since september, when MM came out...
I went to 5.1.1 now and I wait some miracles for christmas
Only recently, Google acknowledged the bug and the fix is on the way (just don't know when, probably early 2016). https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=188667
Too bad there is no way to stop the auto-update to 6.0/6.0.1 unless you are rooted and mod some settings. I don't have any desire to root my NP players. So, the only thing I can do so far is wait.

Given the spread of the problem (affects NP, Nexus 5X and 6P), it tells me that those work at Google didn't do their job. Hence I lost my trust on them about the future on the Android TV if they can't get the basics right.

This update/fix takes forever to be released and it's been a known problem for several months now.
The fix is finally in. Just flashed the newest factory image and tested it out on Youtube and Google Play Movies. Better late than never I guess.

It's build MMB29T. It will show a January 1, 2016 security patch level date once installed. I couldn't bother waiting for the OTA update myself so I just flashed the stock factory image instead.

Google mentioned that they had fixed it on their end and would include it in the next patch and I can confirm they indeed included a fix thank goodness.
I was almost half expecting that they would fix this but then break something else...so far so good though. Tried videos via Youtube, Google Play Movies, and Kodi. Blacks are black again. I was about ready to give up on the NP and look for alternatives.

This past update is what fixes the problem(not flash related, it was an Asus problem). Many speculated that the new flash update fixed the problem, but it was really the update from Asus.

So what was it you wrote to them about, as there are many things reported every day about flash being dodgy? Hardware acceleration?
Yes, I noticed this too. Before update, YouTube My_Speed test showed 6-8 fps, after 8.4.4.11 I got consistant 31 fps in both stock browser and Dolphin HD.
Not sure I believe this as I had 30FPS in flash videos BEFORE the update.

Many users did have normal playback, many did not. I know my TF struggled on this. There are some threads here regarding this and there was a lot of back and forth about the Flash 10.3 fix a few weeks back. I know I ran the test 2 days before the update and had 6-8 fps. I ran the test after the update and now consistant 31 fps. It was a fix for me, no doubt.
Ya this definitely can't be true, lots of peeps had smooth flash video in browsers before the 8.4.4.11 update last weekend. Look at the thread about Hulu modified flash APK or whatever fixing it, that's what I did on mine and then I was getting 30+fps when I was getting like 5fps before, as well as a bunch of others, even some stating they never even had this problem to begin with which is odd. But ya, this update this weekend had nothing to do with it, coincidence.

Your post makes no sense. Just because there was a work around doesn't make this any less true.
Anyway I had 8 fps in flash, after a solid 30 fps and I never did the fix... can you believe it.

Complete and utter rubbish. I got a steady 30 fps on YouTube's 720p test BEFORE the Asus update was even released, so it can't possibly have been the fix.

I also never did the flash update. I still haven't.
I don't believe it was the flash update either, because after I picked up Flash 10.3 I still had the 5fps in videos, not until I did that hulu flash apk did it start working at 30fps+. Honestly I don't think anybody knows exactly what fixed it, lets just agree to disagree.
PS - wtf is up with the Asus techs name, Triple_Shen lulz? Like Triple Shen isn't funny enough but he put an underscore between it.
I work with Technical-Support for so many yrs.
The standard procedure is asking the customer to update to the latest firmware, before any further steps (sometimes knowing the fixes maynot
apply to the problem). At least you can get rid of the caller for some time.
It's entirely possible that there was an issue with the Asus firmware that caused SOME systems to exhibit the problem and not others, which was resolved for SOME PEOPLE by installing the Hulu .apk and such. Given that we're not all installing exactly the same apps nor configuring our TF's exactly the same way, it wouldn't at all be surprising for some of us to experience a problem that others aren't seeing. So, it's also entirely possible that Asus fixed whatever the underlying cause was, and thus some people will see the issue fixed for them after the update.
It's also possible that the underlying cause was corrupted data in the Flash install, and that's why some people saw the issue resolve itself when they installed/uninstalled the other Flash .apk. This corrupted data could have been flushed for everyone by the firmware update.
That's the way I see it, anyways. No need for controversy, I don't think.

Remember that web browser that was found hiding in the Nook's search function? It's time could be nigh. According to a leaked memo acquired by TechCrunch, Barnes & Nobel will be updating the Nook Simple Touch and Simple Touch with Glowlight with an email app, web browser and an updated store next month. The update will reportedly be sent over the air starting on June 1st and rolling out to all devices in the following weeks. The idea isn't too far fetched -- the Simple Touch is running a skinned version of Android. Nook owners not willing to wait for the official patch can always root the device of course, which comes with some peripheral advantages. Check out TechCrunch for a look the full memo.

I would doubt that we could get the Play store as someone noted that the new design of it does not work with our venerable Nooks.
Still it is a nice update, not sure if I would get it though as mine is rooted etc and thus it might prevent it from downloading.
This Nook is over a year old now (isn't it?)... There can't be that many tablet manufacturers still willing to perform hefty developments on hardware that old. So web browser and email client announcement will be just that. And no more... no kernel, no other android support. I guess the 'updated store' is their B&N book store, not any kind of android store.
(I omit other bug fixes and reading-centric improvements)
(and as someone who has rooted and set up their nook just nicely, I don't think I'll care about this update, unless it does anything useful for me).
It would be lovely have a official service to send and parse content to nooks, a kind of "Send to Nook" from web browsers and smart phones.

That's what I'm hoping. Even if it just lets you import epubs from email I'd be good with that, it'd allow things like News Beamer and the like to work, as well as adding new sideloaded books without plugging into a computer which is honestly the thing I miss most from the rooted version since I accidentally triggered a reset to stock
==EDIT== some way to import books without plugging in, ability to edit the screensaver banner (had it as an "if found, contact" statement), and a persistent 1 px battery bar at the bottom of the screen and they'd cover all the root features I personally usedwith any regularity
A web browser might mean the device will get official multi-touch support.
The increase from 1.2.1 to 1.5.0 would suggest a bunch of under the hood stuff.

KitKat is all fine and dandy but without, I am sure, additional sources released by Sony (Ericsson) we will probably never get a JB kernel working and still retain full Xperia PLAY compatibility... then again I may be completely wrong and if I am someone correct me. I have stayed pretty much on GB for gaming. Either way, thanks for sharing... although I think this should go to the General forum.... anyways... thread on.
google says that they made the OS smaller and after so old devices that didn't get in the past update can now get update because they resolve many issues.

True but they also stated those will need to be updated by either the carrier or the manufacturer of the device(s). As $ony long ago gave up on the PLAY, I think its incredibly unlikely we will see any support form Sony and or even source releases.
Still, it would be awesome if we can get it up and running, but dont forget the highest kernel we can sort of get working, is kernel 3.4.
Kitkat would be an even higher kernel number.
Google isn't even releasing KitKat for the Galaxy Nexus. Sony isn't going to do it either, and it would need hardware drivers from Qualcomm side too.
Why is this thread in the dev section?
is that true?

They abandoned it,yes. As far as i know, there are no new models build and everything that is floating around in shops are the last produced batches, not getting the update to Android 4 kinda sealed this assumption
I don't know if the X Play will ever get KitKat but Google introduced a new runtime called ART to replace Dalvik with KitKat, on my Nexus 4 it really improve the performance to a substantial amount, so maybe that will help as well.

Would be great if Sony would pay more attention to their old phones, specially because they cancelled the ics update so sudden.
But i donĀ“t think this will happen.
And that's one reason I won't buy Sony again.

so? is there anyone working on kitkat roms for xPlay? or its abandoned at all?
By the looks of it, KitKat is out of reach for our device, theres barely any 4.1 or 4.2 jellybean roms functioning, what makes you think we will get 4.4 any time soon? Our Play is best optimised for GB due to performance issues as ICS+ isn't 100% functional on our play. Don't believe me? try any ics rom out and sooner or later you will find out that games will lag and memory will tend to be low. Sorry but this is the bottom line for our xperia play.
Legacyxperia (mostly mike) is working to get gully working 3.4 kernel. Than we wpuld be able to boot kitkat.

It honestly looks like they are trying to possibly patch something. Maybe a possible root exploit? Lol
Agreed, I seen similar posts mentioned in the Q & A section here and about people with Dev phones going ahead and taking the updates.
Personally, I will not accept any update regarding security, ect... period due to the comments listed. I don't trust Samsung or Verizon as they are obviously determined to block any attempt at achieving "root" on this device if that even becomes a reality.

Yeah, I got it to. I took it will no ill effect. The security updates that come through the Play Store will not effect an unlocked bootloader in the case of the Developer Edition Note 4s and will not cause a rooted phone to loose root. The Play Store update is only an update to the security app that comes stock on all Note 4s.

I don't have that one in the play store, though it comes up at least once a day through the phone.
So.. Anyone can confirm what this update do?
Questioned Samsung on Twitter and FB
When I questioned Samsung on this, I received two responses. The first that it was a third party app they don't support. The second was that they were looking into it. It has since disappeared from my list of updates.
I believe this is the service that gets updated. I have not been able to find it in the okay store either. Saw it once when it auto updated on me, not since.
I'm pretty sure it's the app itself that's getting the update. What would be considered sneaky is if they update the app and changed the policy so they can force a security update without you agreeing to it.
The CM11s XNPH52Q leaked for brief period of time according to some news in languages I don't know, thanks to google translate, but apparently Oneplus has taken down the source of leak in matter of hours, IF someone has it already, please share
http://gizchina.it/2015/02/oneplus-one-arrivo-lultimo-ota-della-cm-11s-xnph52q/
But, Oneplus team had to say the following in Oneplus official blogs ::
"Hi All!
It's come to our attention that one of our factory test builds was accidentally released sometime yesterday on the OnePlus China forum.
I'd like to clarify that this is a completely unsupported build that was not meant for official roll-out - it was one of our QA/QE releases for factory testing. A proper CM11S (XNPH05Q) is already in certification process with Google.
If you choose to install the leaked build please recognize the following:
We offer zero support for this leaked build
We will not be updating users of the leak to XNPH05Q or the Lollipop release - you will not receive an OTA notification.
The build has been removed from the leak's origin. We encourage folks not to share the build further, in light of the two items mentioned above.
Thank you,
The Cyanogen Team"
Personally, I don't care if it's not officially supported by OnePlus, I just want to get my hands on it so I can see what changes are there. I'm sure people have it, so if anyone does, please send me a link so I can play with it

I dont get it. In one sentence, they say that they sent off build XNPH05Q for certification from Google... and then in another sentence, they call the XNPH05Q build the leaked version and will not support it.

Leaked version is XNPH52Q. Version for certification is XNPH05Q.
The fact that it is not supported does not make me want it any less
In fact, I want it more than the official OTA, since this test build has the hot word wake bits, while the official OTA will not.
Frankly, I'm surprise nobody has gotten that working on the One yet, and pretty sure we could get it working pretty easily, especially with an updated ROM with it active.
I came here looking for it bc NEW CAMERA!!!! and maybe the other apps are updated too. Final CM11S should be out in a few days tho, looking fwd to what @Calkulin comes up with
Seriously the real question is why would we get another cm11s update if cm12s was almost ready?
But sure, that doesn't make it any less interesting.
