Anyone having some issues after updating to 6.0.1? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The 2 things for me is the fingerprint scanner takes just a bit longer to where the extra delay is noticeable, and my battery is draining a lot quicker than before. Anyone else?

What rom, kernel, etc? What app have you installed to isolate battery drain?
I've never seen any of the issues you've described with the fingerprint scanner...it's always instant, and dead accurate.
As to your battery life issue, it's like trying to identify the proverbial needle in a haystack...need details or we can't offer help.

Nexus 6 very 'stuttery' & weak battery compared to my HTC One M8

So I just got the Nexus 6 on Thursday and have been using it for the past 4 days. I have everything set up the way I like it but I find the performance to be pretty sub-par. I'm coming from the HTC One M8 which was a buttery smooth device so that's what I'm comparing it to. So far, I find basic tasks to be slower and less smooth that the M8...Basic things like swiping left to the Google Now page have severe stutter and opening the app switcher has significant lag. Also, the battery seems to be much weaker than the M8. Yesterday I took the N6 off the charger at 8 am and had to recharge it TWICE just to get through the day (granted, this was a heavy usage and screen on-time day but I've never had to do that before with the M8).
I've read about encryption slowing down the device significantly but I'm wondering if that would be the cause of some of the issues I'm having. If so, do you people who have decrypted think it's worth it? Any M8 users have similar (or contrary) experiences with the N6 so far? I was really excited to get this device but so far it's been somewhat of a letdown. I'm hoping Google fixes many of these issues in a software update but I know that's wishful thinking on my part.
I would have to agree that it has some stutter, especially compared to my Nexus 5 on lollipop. That thing is butter.
Well its the first build of lolipop for Shamu so I hope Google fixes the bugs and irons out battery issues. I think everyone's battery life will vary but software should be able to fix this considering it has a huge battery.

I actually have the opposite experience. My N5 had a bit of stutter that I don't have on the N6. Also, the battery life is *immensely* better on the N6 than N5 (I don't have an M8 to compare, but I'm looking at probably double what I had on the N5).
Yesterday I unplugged the phone at 12:30 (it was a rough Saturday night) and used it somewhat-heavily throughout the day (3 hours of screen on-time), and it was at 55% when I put it back on the charger at around 11:30pm.

I REALLY hope that this is true. With the big deal made about "Project Volta" I was expecting big things from the battery life on this phone. I've been very disappointed so far. As for performance, they should have made encryption optional if that is, in fact, what's killing performance. A top of the line device in 2014 shouldn't have lag when swiping between homescreens....that's just ridiculous IMO.

Why would Nova, with more animations, be smoother than the stock Google Now Launcher? Unless you have animations disabled? And do you have Google Now on the left most screen or is that disabled? I guess I should also mention I used the Google Now Launcher with my M8 and that had no lag so that shouldn't be the issue.

I think it's got to do with the launcher as well. I have Nova and it's super smooth. Unlike the official Google Now launcher that's stuttery.
Battery life is just ok. Probably it will improve after few cycles.

I haven't used Nova in a while. Out of curiosity, does Nova include Google Now on the left most screen?
I'm not sure what you have going or what you are doing with your phone, but I haven't found any of that to be true for mine so far. Granted, I've only had it 2 days now but I've found its as smooth as my n5 with kitkat, and battery has been better than the n5. I've never had the m8 so I don't know much about it, I know in tests it generally won most if not all the battery life tests so it's a high standard. I currently have 2 hours 20 mins of screen on time with 43% left, that's with gmail, Fit, calendar, chrome, music, and photos all synced. Also have dropbox set to auto upload pictures, and I have always on OK Google. Screen is set at about 75% brightness.
All I can say is read the battery life thread and make your decision.

If I could get 5+ hrs of screen on time I would be satisfied but I'm not getting anywhere close to that. I have the following services syncing:
2 Google accounts and their associated services
Chrome
Photos
Facebook
Dropbox (auto photo upload)
Fenix (for Twitter)
Press (RSS reader)
Weather app
That's really it.
Whatever. Go use an LG G3 for a few months, and then tell me about how the Nexus 6 "stutters".
I'm easily getting 5 hours SOT and around 18 hours overall with my N6. I am able to get this consistently. I also don't experience any stuttering. I have encryption disabled though.

Did you try the device before disabling encryption? Wondering if you could comment about the difference.
I came from the M8 as well and while I do notice the occasional stutter on the N6, the overall experience is still awesome. I spent some time with the M8 again yesterday to help my wife set it up and I don't miss it at all.
In regards to the battery, the N6 has been right on par with the M8 in my experience. I got through a day and half with a little over 4 hours of SOT this weekend. I don't know what you're doing that requires you to charge it twice a day, but something's not right.

He's probably got it at max brightness non stop while gaming or streaming videos. People always push their phones so hard and then whine when they don't get 12+ hours of SOT.

I don't game on my phone. Ever. I watch the occasional YouTube video but not more than 15 mins. And my brightness is always around 50% with adaptive brightness turned on. Pretty much the opposite of everything you just said and if that were the case I'd be smart enough not to question the battery life.
I think the stuttery stuff you're seeing is Lollipop rather than a particular phone. I felt the same way when my Nexus 5 got updated. I think all the pointless animations Google is adding causes what appears to be stutter. When I compared my N5 to the N6 both phones act the same though the Nexus 5 performs every action a split second faster than even an un-encrypted Nexus 6. I think that's because of the huge screen resolution on the Nexus 6. Both phones seem equal in terms of smoothness or rather lack of smoothness.
I have used the Nexus 6 encrypted and un-encrypted and noticed no difference. I left it off just in case there is a difference that I am not perceiving and may benefit me in some situation.
As for battery life my Nexus 6 gets twice as much screen on time as my Nexus 5 (Nexus 5 screen time went down with Lollipop). I get around 4.5-5 hours SOT now and the Nexus 5 on Lollipop was hitting about 2.5 after the Lollipop update. My brightness is 3/4 of the way up on Adaptive with the Nexus 6.
I think Google turned Project Butter into Project Stutter

Strange Battery Statistics on OnePlus Two

Hi everyone, Of all the android phones I have ever used the Screen always dominates as highest battery consumer, but strangely on my New OnePlus Two (Oxygen: 2.1.0), android and google system apps consumes almost double then what the 5.5' display does.
Although the battery life is good but for a 3300 mah battery, I feel it could have been far better.
So what could be the cause for such high battery consuption., is it poor implementation of Oxygen Os ? would OnePlus fix this ?
I have attached a screenshot depicting the same, I cant be the only one noticing this .
Have a search about, this is highly documented - OxygenOS is pretty crap at the moment in terms of battery saving. You can fix it mostly using Greenify and Amplify, but hopefully as time progresses they will sort out the ROM itself!

Does amplify cause bootloops for you on this 64 bit phone? My phone gets random reboots on OS 2.1.0 and I'm trying to narrow down the cause.

Can you clarify my doubts about OPT?

I read many reviews about OPT they all said that OPT had following issues:
Heating Much. - Do you feel like you can't hold on hand?
Fingerprint reader not working properly.
Battery life sucks. - How many hours it will long?
Some OPT owner saying that these issues has been solved in latest update.
Is that true?
Hi !
I got my OPT last 2 weeks and I found that it don't heats a lot. Fingerprint works properly with OxygenOS 2.1 (like 90% of the time it works), and battery life is about a 2 days with a standard use (data or wifi enable all the time).
Sorry for my bad english, I hope you understand.
The op2 heats, and some would say a lot, but it definitely doesn't reach a point where you can't hold it. After intense gaming the upper part of a screen is hotter then lower but its not that bug deal. On 2.0.1 I reached 82C on one sensor for a second but didn't manage to do it on 2.1.
Fingerprint scanner is kinda weird, it is a good one but needs improving on the software side. Mine works almost every time but sometimes it just won't read and I either have to clean it with some material or reconfigure the finger and it works again.
As for the battery, I get almost 5 hours on screen (stock). With powerbank I don't have to care about saving battery at all. It will probably get even better when we get more efficient kernels and ROMs.
The battery life seems comparable to the OPO.
As far as heating, I haven't noticed anything alarming. Never more than my OPO did.
Fingerprint works great on Oxygen. So far there aren't any User ROMS that have it working.
In the last 45 days, I've had:
HTC One M9
Galaxy S6
Moto X Pure
OnePlus 2
They all got hot when excessive use... But more specifically, the OPT got pretty warm during initial setup, which in-turn caused the battery to drain a little faster... But It also cooled down a lot faster than the others in the list........And, no it doesn't get too hot to hold. My M9 would get so hot, I'd stick it in the refrigerator when doing a backup or downloading a lot of updates.
As for the finger print sensor, I played around with it and had no problems. It actually worked better than the Galaxy S6 (which I had to re-input my finger print a few times) ....But, in general, I don't really like using my fingerprint to unlock my phone so I disabled it.
Battery life......Is about on par with all these devices as well. I think it's better than the S6 and Moto X Pure, the M9 had a little better standby time.
You can see from my screenshot that I've got 57% battery left with 2hrs of SOT and just over 11hrs off the charger. Not really too bad?
I noticed my OPT heats up a LOT when running nandroid backups creation or restore on TWRP, but never with normal phone operations.
My fingerprint scanner works great
Battery life is about 24h with my normal use.

Mine heats but not more than an Samsung s4
Finger print works 95%+ of the time
Battery last 4 to 5 hours screen on

- heats up even during setup, more if playing a game. Reminds me of my old LG G3.
- I removed the screen protector and glad to know that the glass feels to have an oleophobic coating (which I feared to be similar to the my old Xperia Z Ultra that removing the screen protector unmasked the basic non-coated glass)
- battery is bad like all the current Android phones. My Mi 4i can last me up to 10pm everyday on heavy reading, listening to spotify, surfing, and some random youtube videos. My iPhone 6 plus can last me 2 days with the same usage - so I can say 4hrs screen on time is PRETY BAD FOR ANY FLAGSHIP However my screen on time is 2hrs 50mins to 3 hrs only so yeah its pretty bad.
- fingerprint scanner works similar to my iPhone 6 plus - in that is sometimes works flawlessly and sometime you have to tap your finger multiple times. Avarage.
- charging the damn phone takes about 3hrs to 100%
It heats less than my Iphone 5s, Battery is 4 times my Iphone 5s and Figure prict is better than iphone 5s...can't say after it become old till now it is very good ...
1. Heating issue is a NON issue. it gets warm but nothing so noticeable
2. Finger print sensor works fine. you have to press it like a button
3. Battery life is good, the wakelocks are gone post 2.10

I'm using A2001.
Heating - it doesn't heat as bad as my S4 IF you're one stock. When I flashed a custom kernel a week ago, it heated pretty fast and the buttons were really hot as well that i could feel a minor burn.. But that's prolly because the kernel was still buggy like the op2 never sleeps, they've got an update now but i didn't flash it, gonna wait till it's stable and all.
Fingerprint scanner - the fp scanner for me is better than the iphone 6.
Battery life - it doesn't suck. I uninstalled those useless pre-installed apps. Made sure to greenify any apps that may run when the screen is off. I could get 3 days with my normal usage- texting and internet browsing.
I hope this helpsm

Anyone still on Marshmallow?

I'm still on the last August build of PureNexus 6.0.1. Mainly because for some reason V4A works and processes everything whereas Nougat won't process SoundCloud, and xposed modules.
Who else is on MM?
I'm still on stock MM September build. I'm dubious to update after reading about the battery issues on Android 7.

Battery issues? What battery issues? I've been on Nougat for almost 3 months with no random shutdowns, unexplained drain, etc. With Google Now on, location on, and all sorts of other battery draining features enabled my phone routinely lasts 18+ hours with 5+ hours of SOT with 20% or more battery left. My 6P is only 3 months old, so my battery is still basically new, unlike most 6P's out there.
The "battery issues" you hear about are hardware faults, not Nougat issues. It's just a coincidence that they started popping up around the same time Nougat was released.
O Nougat since it came out. No problem whatsoever. Keep in mind the people having problem are little to none.

What battery issues? I must have made that up then? Hardware fault, maybe. Coincidence that they appeared at the same time as Nougat, maybe.
My 6P is 12 months old next week, so there is a very good chance that I could be susceptible to the "non existent" battery issues with Nougat. Until I'm sure it is safe to upgrade (it was the same with my Nexus 4.,I delayed updgrading due to issues with updates for that) I'll upgrade.
If it ain't broke is my motto...

Well how can it exist if one doesn't experience it? The issue is the the rom is the easiest thing to blame when there isnt anything else to blame. I'd narrow it down to app + phone usage. Ive had my phone since it came out and the only issue is its non-functional in weather below 0c. Im using N, on AICP w/ Flash kernal and i exceed 4+ SOT on normal usage. With games its down to 2-3 hours depending on how long or intensive the game is.

If it was a wide spread problem that affected everyone on Nougat, then I should probably be experiencing it.
If you look at the random shutdown/bootloop threads almost everyone affected has had their phones since it came out, which means their batteries are old and worn out. Most of them have reported that replacing the battery/getting a new phone has fixed their issues, which further reinforces my hardware fault argument.
It's easy to blame Google and their software because no one wants to believe that their $500+ phone is defective, but the cold hard truth is it's not Nougat's fault.
This winter my Nexus 6 on Marshmallow started shutting down randomly in the cold, but is that the fault of the software? No. The battery was over 2 years old and had reached the end of its usable life.

Gonna be weird going back, lol.
Went back to September build since it was the last one. Was never actually on mm before since I started updating to nougat immediately after getting the phone. Curious how Xposed would work on the 6p. Great, I'd have to say. I have the phone exactly how I want it. Changed the dpi to 640. No more squinting. Won't be upgrading unless Xposed is also working.

Battery Life on 9.0.6

On 9.0.5 was getting around 8-9hrs SOT now it's down to around 6. Have erased cache in recovery and restarted. I shouldn't have to do a hard reset after every update so I don't know what the issue is. I haven't installed anything else and have the same settings on as I did before the update. I'm unrooted add well.I just curious if anyone else is experiencing a decrease in battery life quality after the 9.0.6 OTA?

Same, checked what is draining the battery but everything seems fine.
Same for me: after update SOT 6.5-7h, before around 9h. No root

After the MSM tool full restore battery was life was better.

Very true. I'm experiencing worse battery like but I'm still going 6+ hours sot and 30+ hours on a charge. It's like a Moto z play but flagship speed.
My idle drain is amazing still. Drops 2-3% in 8 hours if deep sleep. It's just seems to drain faster while screen is on.
Has this issue been fixed with 9.0.7?
There are no battery drain issues with this device.
If you're expereincing bad battery life, tweak your settings or put your brain to work and figure out why. Stop blaming it on the OS, as it should be common knowledge by now to understand that battery life is completely subjective to the user and their location and usage habits, so it will vary widely from user to user...it is what it is. This device is capable of astounding battery life, period.

I agree.
I have not experienced worse battery on 9.0.6 at all. What I have noticed is my usage has changed over time (honey moon period)
Perhaps your usages /locations have changed?
Switching from WiFi to celullars (especially outdoors when your removing about) make a big difference.
I agree the battery is great.
After being on 9.0.7 since release I feel its slightly better so far.

See that's what I initially thought, but even with the 9.0.7 update, the fact is there is no usage difference at all on my part, no change of location, no change of settings, literally not a single thing different from the day before apart from the cache wipe. I have the exact same app usage and no major apps have been updated. For me personally I don't change my habits at all, and whether I or anyone else use any app 10 min more or less than the day before shouldn't make this big of a difference, especially such a drop. I'm not saying the battery life is bad after the update, don't get me wrong 6-7 hrs of SOT is amazing on any phone, i'm just pointing out that clearly then at this point it does in fact have something to do with a change in the OS right, especially if these minor differences in less then what I would give everyone's 5 most used apps they use daily are causing a 1-2hr drop in average SOT...

See that's what I initially thought, but even with the 9.0.7 update, the fact is there is no usage difference at all on my part, no change of location, no change of settings, literally not a single thing different from the day before apart from the cache wipe. Fair point I guess.
I've never gotten 8 hrs SOT, 6 hrs at most and it's always been like that since day 1.

And what if it's an app which got updated and started behaving strangely and sucking battery juice ? I would start with that then use BBS to look for detailed battery usage ...
