Quiet Hours? - Microsoft Lumia 950/950 XL

I miss an option to set Quiet Hours. It's not in the OS and I can't find a working app in the store.
Any suggestions?
An app like Tasker or other ways to schedule jobs would be fine as well, thanks!

Win 10 has quiet hours ... to get to it, pull down the notifications from the top, and expand it if it is not shown. It is a moon symbol. Then just hold it, and the quiet settings will show up and be able to be changed.

Confused

I'm confused, that moon button takes me to a message telling me that Cortana is not yet available in my region. There is nothing about quiet hours there...

Thanks so much man! :good:

Hold the search button on the task bar, bottom right until Cortana pops up. At the top left touch the three bars and this will open up with quiet hours, settings etc.

I'm in Ireland and had to set my region to the UK to use Cortana so I could then use Quiet Hours

Yep, for whatever reason (I had to make my daughter 14, so she can use quiet hours during school, since Cortana is required, and 14 is the minimum), they tied this to Cortana in W10.
I'm betting if the OS gets a bit more mainstream adoption, this will change, there's no great reason for this dependency...
I hadn't thought about Cortana and international (kind of funny, considering all the MS store sells is an XL that's the international version), and the fact that bars Quiet Hours too...

No settings for quiet hours in Cortana
Hi, I'm using a Lumia 950 Dual Sim in Germany with the newest updates installed. I cannot find any settings for "quiet hours" in Cortana. Tapping the "3 lines" symbol within Cortana gives me "Starting page", "Notes","Reminders","Settings" and "Feedback" (translated from German), but I cannot find any settings for "quiet hours" or its German equivalent.
Where do you find these settings in the English language version?

quiet hours
I also don't have it in the Netherlands on my Lumia 950.
Is there a tweak with Interop Tools?
On my Samsung (GT-i8350) Omnia W, Windows Phone 7.8, it was available!
BTW, someone out there who has an idea to make my Samsung Omnia W a wireless Wifi/IP webcam for security!?
THX!

Quite hours settings in windows 10 can found in cortana, tap on 3 lines on the top left corner. Where you'll find notebook under home. Open notebook and here you'll find quite hours.

What is "Today timeout"??

I have a MDA Vario. In SETTINGS --> TODAY --> ITEMS tab, what is "Today timeout", which is set at "4 hr" by default?? Does anyone know pls? I do not see any reference to it in the manual. Thx.
Tones
I think that's the amount of time after which it will return to the today screen if you left it with an app open and didn't touch it.
i tried it last night by leaving a game running, but it was still there when i got up the next day. it does seem to be the function u described, mate. Anyone else have any ideas pls?
A game will certainly work differently as it will request permanent focus and fullscreen. Just try with a standard app like calendar...
well, it was only a simple solitaire card game, but nonetheless I will try standard one like you suggested. But if this "timeout" function really is to return to TODAY screen, what is the real use of it? to timeout in 4 hours? and the longest possible time option is 12 hours.
Doesn't it simply stop refreshing the today screen (ie the clock and other values)?
It still refreshes the clock when you put it into sleep mode. However, after a number of hours it always takes some time for the clock to jump to the correct time.
It is the idle time before the Today screen is shown.
It's near useless, I almost always keep my today screen on anyway, because who wants to wait 4hours to see it
Use my TodayButton app if you want quick access to the Today screen...
V
personally, I always return to the TODAY screen anyway by shutting down applications after i'm done with them. I just thought this "timeout" thing was a sophisticated and useful function, but it turns out to be quite the opposite. But i will never understand why anyone want to design it to timeout in HOURS and not in minutes.
I'm the same, I shut down apps and always leave it on the Today screen!

Doesn't the Red button do that anyway?
Nah, red button minimises apps to leave them running in the background (I think it actually just switches to the today screen). Some don't mind this, but for me, if I want the app open, I'll open it, and when I want it closed, I want it closed.
VJOkButt allows you to use the red button to minimse or close, and also properly close the phone to save around 3mb memory. But it does this sympathetically with the phone, so if you're in the phone, it hangs up, but otherwise it's a minimiser.
V
lolz
Morale of the story.... no one knows it. I always keep it disabled. So no big deal.
Had PDF softcopy of Reference Manual of my O2AL, and searched with no hint at all. Lets be it.....
I thought...
Guys,
I just stumbled upon this thread and thought it might be a good idea to get educated. I never knew it.
But this is what I thought - I thought it is the time slot to show appointments.
Means, if you chose a slot of 4 hours, and there are continuous meetings scheduled in your calender (and display of them enabled), then it would act like a rolling 4 hours window (read as slot).
Does this make sense? I never had so many appointmens, but always thought this was the use of it.
Comments please.

List of bugs / Problem in Hermes devices

I am running the iMate JasJam 1.31 ROM (which came with the Australian Telstra branded device)
The most common problems so far:
-Sound stops working, will only vibrate. This happen if you switch to silent mode, when you get back to normal sound mode, it stays in silence mode until you reboot. this doesn't always happen. can't reproduce it consistently
-BT turns off by itself once in a while, you have to turn BT on in comm manager
-The most annoying: If you have a data session active (not transfering any data) and a BT connection active (like headset, GPS), then you can't receive a call. The person calling you won't even get to voicemail. it just hangs up on them. if you disconnect the data session or turn off BT then you can receive calls again
-Switching username in MSN will often make messenger crash, you have to kill the process and start it again
-Sometimes will hang for no reason: you need to press the reset button
Then you have the GUI weirdness which make you think: what did they drink the day they designed this software?
Like if you receive a SMS, it will show you an extract of it at the bottom of the screen, you'll get off the following choice:
-Reply on the left soft menu
-More on the right soft menu with the option (delete, call sender, Save as Read, dismiss)
What if I just want to read the full content in the Messaging application? you can't.
If you select Mark as Read immediately it doesn't mark the SMS as read in the messaging application and you still get the notification in the top screen. You have to do "Mark as Read" twice.
Something I miss from my symbian phone, if you have a bluetooth headset paired with a unit (or your car kit) when you answer a call using the BT headset button, the call goes to the BT headset, but if you answer using the device itself, it doesn't go on the BT. This is great if you want to take a personal call in a car for example, and don't want your passenger to hear what's going on.
On WM5, you can't control that. it aways goes to BT if the headset/handsfree is set.
When the keyboard is open, if you tap on a text field, the screen keyboard will show up (and text half of the screen). Why show a software keyboard all the time when you have a full qwerty keyboard available !? Sometimes the keyboard doesn't show up, but I'm yet to understand the logic behind it. it's not consistent
And then of course you have some inconsistencies here and there, like the device will stop working as it did 2 minutes prior. You try it again: bank it works.
I wonder if Microsoft or HTC have any QA !
What other issues have you guys noticed? Or could this be that those problems are unique to thie version of the ROM...
Jean-Yves
I agree, there are quite a lot of interface issues, although I think most of these lie with wm5 as opposed to the unit itself.
here are some of my thoughts:
1) the sms bubble relly annoys me too. why can't I tap the bubble to open the message in full?! often the message is too long to fit in the notification. i'm pretty sure this is a wm5 design fault.
2) the software keyboard bugged me senseless until I realised that if you just keep typing on the 'proper' keyboard it disappears. I used to continually spend the time closing it!
3) the alarms in wm5 are pretty lame. if your phone is on silent they won't sound. you only get a warning if you set an alarm whilst the phone is in vibrate mode. the alarm should simply override the sound settings.
4) contacts - I think searching for contacts is poorly handled which makes one handed operation pretty difficult. it takes too many clicks to select a category to filter by and the display when someone is calling you is a farse! you get a tiny notification with tiny writing! I bought photo contacts pro to help with this and whilt it has its flaws I reckon it is worth it.
having said this, i'm loving my tytn. it is way better than my previous smartphone (nokia 6680). the symbian s60 based phones seem to just be half-assed to me.
cheers
Just to comment on the SMS notification.
I am on MDA Vario II from T-Mobile, and when I get an SMS my left button says read! so If I choose that he whole message is displayed. So I guess it is not the OS but the Operator or manufacturer who screwed up on this one.
I add that in some case the tytn wirless modem function dont work.
So you can use the tytn like modem.

Mine works, but since Vista RC2, I couldn't get the OS to install the drivers.
It worked well in Beta2 and RC1

Thanks for that one too. Perhaps we need a thread for non-obvious key combinations or single presses. Perhaps what seems to be statin' the bleedin' obvious to some folks are just things that others have never thought of or tried. Often I discover things through pure chance. Another useful one I used to need a lot was the D-Pad and messaging key combo to go straight to screen alignment.
Mike
What about a new wiki page for all key combinations of the Hermes?

Im on T-Mobile too, and for me it depends on the length of the message ive received. If its a message that doesnt entirely fit in the "preview" popup box at the bottom it will give me a "View" option which will open the full message up in Messaging, otherwise it gives a "Reply" option as i have read the whole message anyway...
More to the list
While waiting to get my new phone (used to have PDA2k, and Jamin that I just sold after using for 3 months due to my disatisfactionof performance, sound quality, etc...) I had some chances to play the JasJam (Arabic ROM). First I noted that the call button is very badley placed at the verry bottom of the front as I felt the phone will fall out of my hand (unlike the HTC where the green botton is separatly on the very left side, as I see it in photos).
Second, if pull the out memory card for any reason and push it bacj in, the phone never recognizes the card again unless you soft rest it.
I hope that this issue will be resloved in the next ROM update by imate
Here it is:

Yes, I too only discover the mail button could make you cycle between accounts. And this is not in the manual...
Another thing bugging me (I will pass on all the bugs and how to lock the device: there're just too many ways)...
There are 3 OK buttons, all doing the exact same thing. And the scroll wheel just just the same thing as the direction keypad.
If you want to read an email this is extremely annoying as you can't easily read it without tapping the screen to jump to the next screen page ; as up/down or the wheel will jump from embedded number to number.
It would be great if you could differentiate the wheel from the up/down, and if the OK buttons could be assigned another function. Right now there are a few buttons you can't assign.
Ok, this should be a rule to post here: list/describe one bug ...
With activesync program running, try changing the name of the PDA. Will make the device unresponsive for a few minutes.
My experience thus far..
Been using my T-mobile Vario 2 (ROM 1.21.110.3) for a couple of weeks now and have had a couple of problems:
1) The buttons don't work all the time. I've noted this when trying to pick up a call or dismiss a notification of something. I had thought I might have left the device locked but this isn't the case. It's a bit annoying that this only happens sometimes though.
2) About 50% of the time when I call comeone they can't hear me although I can hear them fine.
That's all I've discovered so far, but it's handy to note the comments about the pressing of the envelope button.
Given the problems I've experienced so far are generally located in the lower part of the phone, I'm beginning to suspect the phone has some sort of hardware fault so I've called the shop up and am going to swap it for a new one. Has anyone else experienced these issues?

You are absolutely right there. Noticed it today. long message you get a view and if it fits the popup then you get a reply. This is actually quite clever.

[App] NightStand 01-04-2010

NightStand is a simple alarm clock application with large numbers to be easily seen.
It allows for the phone to dim the screen but keeps it from turning off for that middle of the night glance to see what time it is.
Features Include:
Alarm with 8 sounds
Custom Color of the Digits
5 Minute Snooze Button
Solve an easy math problem to help you wake up (to you turn alarm off)
Automatically runs on AC power (optional)
Keep the device awake or let it go to sleep (optional)
12/24 Hour setting
How To Use:
When you run the application click on the configure button (upper right corner) to set all the settings
Three sliders allow you to set the custom color.
Alarm toggle to set the alarm and the sound.
AC Toggle to set Auto mode.
When the alarm is going off, click the snooze button to snooze or click anywhere on the screen to stop the alarm.
Update 1.1
The alarm should now go off regardless of what phase the phone is in (device awake or sleep), the app is running or not.
Screen is flipped
Update 1.2
Added an option to flip the screen
Update 1.2.1
Minor Update to start NightStand with correct orientation, Flip Screen option takes effect right away
Updated to work on HD2
Update 1.2.2
Fixed shifted screen on WVGA resolution (I think)
Added toggle for math question on exit
Phone stays awake while alarm is going off (for heavy sleepers like myself )
Looks nice.
A couple of issues on my TP2. The display is rotated the wrong way, and sliding the keyboard our causes it to get distorted. I'd prefer to use it with the keyboard out as I can tilt my phone .
I like it though, nice start.
P.S. let me know if you want the thread moving to the Development & Hacking apps forum from the Diamond one.
Dave
I just uploaded an updated version, try it out and let me know if it works better with the keyboard out.
Thanks
It crashes if you run the app with the keyboard out, and it is still upside down if I open the Keyboard after running the app.

Awesome work!I really like the big number.but, why not add a toggle button to turn off the backlight in the settings.I think it will waste lots of power when the device keeps dim.Perhaps you can add a sensor to lighten the lcd when we want to see what's the time now.
This Doesnt Work on my HTC HD2 even tho it suports WVGA Screens, WHY??
thanx.

same here, on my HD2 I've got only two color squares in the corners and one big rectangle in the middle... so no clock. settings and exit "square" button work well.
Not working on my HD2 either. Two boxes of colour on each side of the left hand side of the screen - one to change settings and one to exit plus a big box in the middle which is meant to be the digits i guess.

1.1 now has the correct orientation, but the display is messed up if I put the phone in Landscape and then open it.
Only a minor annoyance.
Dave
any way you could send me some screenshots so i can see if i can fix it..
Ok now working on my Omnia after installing 1.1 and the libgs cab you posted.
Two things.
First, if you have SPB Mobile Shell 3.0.1 installed, the app comes up but is shifted slightly. I believe this is because they do something with the top windows start bar. Not a huge deal but something I thought you could check into.
Secondly, Could you have a setting to determine which way to have the screen flip? I would like it 180 from where it is now. My power plug ends up on the bottom and so the phone won't sit level. If it was landscape but the other way, it would be perfect for the omnia.
Thanks,
Robb

Low & Delayed Ringing

Thanks for starting the segment. Just bought OMNIA II 8GB in India and the problem is when a call comes it is initially very low and the goes up and this cannot be changed through the usual routes. Also the ring itself starts after 3 rings at the callers end. Any help is appreciated.
BTW, Its WM 6.1. Wm 6.5 is not yet available.

This is a Samusung WM specialty (or they call it feature). The first 3 secs are always "subdued". It happens with all Samsung WM. Nothing can be done to change it. You just have to learn to get used to it. Look on the bright side, when you're in an office setting, you can usually pickup the call before it gets bursting.

Yes, agreed with you that they should leave that as an option for user. About the Touchwiz, well , most Omnia 2 users just dont use that. it's memory hogging and doesnt allow creating shortcuts for many programs.
I would say MAJORITY of Omnia 2 users opt for the Spb Mobile Shell instead.
You should really testdrive it yourself, and you will be delightfully surprised how well it integrates and how much smoother the whole i8000 experience is.
i agree that the ring should have been optional. but personally i like it. it saves me from suddenly jerking in surprise when my phone is on top of a table.
being easily irrated, i like the "soft" warning before it gets loud.

I did try the Shell. But what stopped me was the very rudimentary contact program. i have a large database and I absolutely need a t9 search on every field in the contact list which is not there in Shell if I am not mistaken.
Though for some reason Samsung killed the threading of sms, one feature of this touchwiz I find useful though is the search in sms. Guess as a heavy cell user, over the years, I have developed some specific likes & dislikes. Like I absolutely need to see the future appointments on the today screen & launch particular program from today. etc..

Agreed. But its peculiar. It rings softly first. Then it just vibrates (if u hv vibrate on) but no rings (??? crazy or what ???), then the ringing becomes louder. The whole process takes 5-7 seconds. Now, if u miss these (u can if u r busy or a little distance away from the cell), by the time u hear the louder ring and go to pick up the phone, the caller may go away. It is happening with me.
a solution
to prevent the delay in getting the initial ring, I advice to stop the lock screen from setting/ display and light/ lock screen
then make the device wake up with the lock button only
setting/general settings/ button/wake up/ lock button only
regarding the initial low ring tone, still no solution

He means you can use "Audio Editor" program on PC to increase the volumn of the first 3 seconds of your ringone.
I actually do have (on Verizon i920) a delay of 3-4 rings (at the callers end) before my phone rings or vibrates. I think I have a bad phone as no one else seems to have this issue.

Solved: Google Now UK

Hi all,
Sorry if already asked, had a quick search but couldn't find anything directly related to the Nexus 7. Does the UK have Google Now with cards etc.? Can't see anything related to Google Now on my Nexus 7 but was sure I set it up on first login?? I've set a calendar event to drive to my parents from work at 4pm today to see if that triggers a traffic card later but otherwise can't seem to find much info on how to use it and whether it works. Certainly can't see any Google Now settings anywhere.

Hold down the Home button and a "Google" should appear just above it, select that and you'll see the Google Now Tour
Thanks for the reply. When I do that a google search box appears at the top of a white screen (no cards etc.). Not to say it didn't do the tour when I first did that. I was just expecting cards to start appearing automatically (options like location services are enabled). When I click on the microphone and say weather a weather card appeared at the top of a list of google searches for "weather" but shouldn't things like that appear naturally in the morning?
The other thing that's weird is that I can't find an app or any settings for Google Now anywhere on the Nexus 7, should there be?
NOW should start to build a profile of your travel habits and interests as time goes on, it mainly builds up its info based on your search results. It wont have much to show to start with, but you should see more info and cards as it gets an idea of what you are interested in seeing.
Oops sorry guys I guess I must have not enabled it (i swear i had during first boot...). Went to the search pane and slid it up so that the bar at the bottom was visible with the menu button (three squares vertical). Clicked the menu button, settings and google now was off so turned it on and now gives me two cards when I slide up from the home button on any screen. These cards are the route and travel time to my parents later (as entered in calendar) and the local weather.
Excellent, apologies for my stoopidnessnous.

aha, thanks! I had it switched off too, am sure I turned it on too
Two things some people might find useful:
1) You don't have to hold down the home button. Just tap and drag up from there. Doesn't save a lot of time though, just an alternative.
2) Scroll to the very bottom of the Google Now page and you'll see a menu at the right (looks like a stack of 3 dots). Settings for Google Now are in there. Each card also has its own menu at top-right.
