I bought 3 fires for gifts and wanted my family to have the option to select which fire would suit them. I figure my mom will get along fine with the stock 5.1.1. My little bros might prefer rooted or Slim.
I decided to run some benchmarks. Using antutu.
I'm sorry to say the results aren't very exciting in that there was not much variation.
And for what it's worth, the graphics test ran much smoother than my $150 insignia flex elite.
While I don't put much value behind benchmarks, I can say that the SlimLP 5.1.1 fire scored slightly better each and every run.

Heres a boot video showing amazon 5.0.1 rooted with play store vs the Resurrection rom 5.1.1
Stock 5.1.1(left) slimLP 5.1.1 (middle) stock 5.0.1 (right)

Did you test CM 12.1 also?
Is there a noticeable difference in speed when using the tablet between the three roms?
Not much. They are all zippy as hell. I have experienced the browser lag on all 3. Video runs great on all 3. I will say the biggest noticeable difference is the screen color. The amazon based fires have an extreme white tint. A colder white, with bluish tones. The SlimLP build has a much yellower white. The amazon ones do get "brighter" because of this.
No, I have yet to test cm12.1

That's funny, i always felt my fire on 5.0.1 had an exceptionally yellow tint.
It could be a hardware difference. But I'm thinking it's just a rom setting.

It is a hardware issue.
My stock rooted 5.0.1 fire also got super bright white one day. And somehow a tap on the back of the tablet or restart fix it.
You might want to send the super white tint fire for repair.
A comparison among stock, cm, slim would be appreciated if you got a chance. Benchmarks is not important. Overall usablity, speed, stability of the system is very important.
Lost users also care about app compatibility in slim and cm. Seems like some apps could not be downloaded from play store in cm or slim

The only tablet of 4 fires that I have that has yellow tint is the one running a slimrom that has no specific color setting for the fire. So this is just an OS difference. I want to specify that the white tint looks better.

Do you have the problem that your screen has a slightly green tint?
It is possible to get rid of it by using apps like "filter your screen" (just add more red and even more blue). But there's no comparison to tools like voodoo color (v1 and gamma correction) on a galaxy nexus/s.
"Filter your screen" biggest problem is that it kills the good black level performance on an oled, contrast is lowered too much for my taste...
Do you guys know some better alternatives (even with enabled root or other hacks)?

It's a screen problem, not caused by the software. But it is possible to get rid of it porting a kernel module called "ColorControl" which was used in many Galaxy Nexus' custom kernels.
Yes during my Galaxy S days i used to have vodoo colour which used to make the screen look amazing, waiting for supercurio or anyother developer to port the option to galaxy note2

So you have the same problem?
As far as I know ColorControl is just a port of voodoo color from the Galaxy S1. So it should be possible to port it to the Galaxy Note 2 as well. Otherwise I'm going to return this nice device with that sh***y display. I will never buy a smartphone with an amoled display again!

Yesterday I went to a store here in Germany, and the Note 2 there had the same color cast.
I really like the Note 2 but I hate its display. This is embarrassing for Samsung!
Exchange your device.
Looks like this is screen problem, I have perfect white color. Try to test it from *#0*# menu (type this combination at phone app)
Got my replacement today: Gues what?! Exactly the same...
At least the build quality is much better.
I've noticed the same green tint that kind of goes away the brighter the phone gets. My eyes adjust after a few minutes though and I can't really see it. I would really like to get a colortemp/hue adjuster though.
Too bad you guys got faulty screens, as i have slight blue tint on my screen but i absolutely love this! I had One X 6 months and i would never want to change this display to that on One X, this is the best display i've ever seen. I guess it's just me then...

The phone is bad with out your touch
I think the color calibration is totally off on this phone. They chose to calibrate it this way, and it is out of my hands so it doesn't bother me because I love the device. Videos look great when I want to watch them.
Color is all relative because you cannot choose the color of the ambient light around you, so you are never seeing the pure color unless you are in a controlled environment. So why get hung up about how inaccurate the color looks on something in comparison to something else that's not bouncing the true color you're looking for?
I have this annoying yellow tint on my S4's screen, but disappears when the phone is tilted over 45 degrees. Is this faulty ? Shall I return it ? Or is there a way I can fix the gamma through an app without rooting the phone ?

Mine doesn't look like that, sorry. But I have lag. ):
Is it just in Chrome?
Try Chrome Settings ---> Developer Tools ---> Uncheck 'Enable Tilt Scrolling'
@raqball nope this is found everywhere, even instagram and facebook.
Ah, no clue then sorry..
@raqball can you do a quick check with yours, similar to the one I did and let me know what you get ?
Go to settings display screenmode and use something else other than adapt display. Im currently using dynamic and my tint is gone.
ATT S4 Rooted. Beastin.

I had it on standard all this time (including screenshot) .. Putting it on dynamic gives the same result :
Damn I was hoping it was that because it fixed it for me. Maybe a hardware issue?

@stevehkim I'm not sure tbh .. thanks for the suggestion though. It's quite annoying after I realised that it exists ... Didn't bother me before I noticed it :\
I found an app called Screen Adjuster but its not really efficient.
I had this with my S3 and got used to it. I was told in those forums that this is just how these AMOLED screens are made.
My display is perfectly white though... Side by side comparisons between the Note II, Microsoft Surface RT (perfect white display), and a Sony HDTV. My S4 beats or meets them all.

Acer 24" LCD Monitor vs S4
I'll do one of my Surface or TV later.
I made a Pure White image to use for testing on the S4, use it instead of Chrome which uses a grey color in it's UI and for some reason the S4 screen brightness dims on Chrome automatically (and you can't change it). Download it if you want to do comparisons again.

Just wanted to voice how great this screen really is! I'm a G3, Note 3, S5, S4, Note 2 -
I was so excited for the G3 and then the screen on that thing had no VIVID colors! What a huge disappointment - it went back.
If you'd like to see how great this screen really is, TURN up the brightness, go here to this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56100084&postcount=14 and grab those videos!!
Killer!
Samsung and Apple both have the best screens on mobile products. The LG G3's (QHD 2560x1440) screen is amazing but it uses IPS LCD screen while the Galaxy note 4 uses SuperAMOLED 2D screen.
I agree I had g3 and fixed my self to like it this screen blows it out the water

To be fair, the colors on Samsung devices (by default) are vivid, but not accurate. Not sure how accurate the G3 is, but Apple screens are generally quite a bit more accurate than Samsung screens.
From what I've read the Note 4 has the option to use vivid or accurate color rendering, the accurate is at least as good as the iPhone 6 (plus the option to have the colors really pop.)
im excited to see screen today!!! g3 has good screen i think (thats about it imo though but good screen) so we will see!
So excited!!!!
So which wallpaper will anyone be using? Stock Note 4 or anything you have prepared to use for it? I'm spending so much time browsing 2560x2560 wallpapers but can't really decide which to choose.

Anandtech, Displaymate and others state the color coverage is the best of any device. Depends on the setting. Vivid is still an option.
i do love this screen, but i very slightly see what some people said about the upper right hand portion of the screen having more of a reddish hue than the rest. mine has that, but it's pretty slight and only noticable on white screens like in the menus, so i don't care much. everything else about the phone works perfectly so i'm happy!

Oh wow! I love it. It looks awesome on the Note 4. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. :good: :good:
There appears to be some G3 owners in denial that their power hogging, low contrast displayed device is better and the N4 is a laggy while the G3 is super fast. This in contradiction of most reviews and my own experience.
G3 is a good device, but the display is a more than usual resource killer.
I know there has been a lot of these but maybe I can help with someone's decision, so here we go.
The OPO has served me great for the past couple months and it's almost a perfect phone. :fingers-crossed:
Background:
One of the things I liked most about this phone was the unboxing experience. It was just simply amazing, amazing quality. As soon as I unboxed it, I installed adb drivers and unlocked the bootloader. I flashed twrp and rooted. Then I installed some of my favorite root apps such as greenify, AdBlockPlus, xposed framework (Boot-manager, App Settings, YouTube AdAway etc.), Avast (Firewall Features), Orbot (For using the TOR network), and SuperSU, and ADBD Insecure. I also made a custom boot animation and changed it, as well as the boot logo. I made a few changes to the file system and installed a few binaries.
My device has about 6 pages of apps from over the months. I use a lot of them and some of them I just have because "it might be helpful". One more thing to mention, I also installed the Amazon App store so I can get some apps from there. Now lets talk about themes: I have about 6 different themes each applied to a certain part of the ui and honestly it looks amazing. I'm spending too much time at the intro so lets cut to the chase...
Performance:
The snapdragon 801 makes everything liquid smooth and I have had no issues with performance what so ever. One thing I should mention is that my AnTuTu benchmark score dropped from when I first got it to now, this was expected as I am running a couple heavy apps in the background (ex. Xposed, Avast, Greenify, 5 messaging apps, Sync, Smart news etc.). The performance dropped a little over the months but the UI is still liquid smooth.

}
Battery:
The battery performance is very, very good and I have had no issues with it. I usually get about 2-3 days on a single charge with medium to heavy use. That being said, I turn off my phone at night... which probably has a major impact on screen-on time. Charging takes about 1-2 hours for me using the stock cable and power brick which is pretty average for any smartphone. The device battery is good and it is enough to power the beast inside.
Display and Touch:
The OPO display is good but nowhere as amazing as OLED. The 401 PPI makes everything look really sharp and I have had no issues with clarity. Also to mention, my device does not have the yellow tint problem although the colors look a bit warm. This is expected of course as it is an IPS LCD screen. The viewing angles are amazing and the ability to change between software and hardware keys is great. The touch is probably one of the most disappointing parts of this phone. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. The screen is over sensitive and it leaves ghost touches behind making it very hard to type fast. But the auto-correct works like a charm and balances out the effects. Hopefully in CM12 this will be improved.
Software:
Just the plain ol' cyanogenmod experience which is one of the main reasons I bought this phone. I'm just hoping I can get the CM12 ota before the partnership completely fades away. :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
Camera:
It sucks. Just really really bad. Now that said, I believe it is a software fault rather than a hardware one. The Color OS camera app is much much better and that might solve the issues for some of you. Granted I have been able to get some amazing shots when I applied medium-heavy post processing they turned out just like one from a DSLR. (Will be uploading examples soon)
Design:
The design is nice especially the sandstone textured back, It provides a lot of grip as well as "looks". The metal ring around the display gives it a more premium feel, but I would not have minded paying more for an all metal phone. The bamboo back cover looks promising and I am looking into getting one.
Will be adding more in the near future... Ran out of ideas
I have been using it for a month now. Its an amazing phone considering the price. No lags or anything. Additionally the camera is quite good and very fast. The build quality is also very good. One thing I particularly like - how short the charging time is (less than 2 hours from empty to full).
The only thing that I am worried about the future of official software support. I certainly hope that the OxygenOS from OnePlus will be a clean iteration (like AOSP), not something like FlymeOS or MIUI; and that OnePlus will continue to provide essential updates till the end of 2015 (assuming that CM will stop supporting it after CM12s).
I agree!
i just ordered one 64gb for my wife, her Galaxy S2 just died (almost died, i must find her efs backup, then repair it), can't wait to receive and play with it
i hope the +1 will be too big for her little hands, so i can give her my Nexus 5
many thanks for the review
Used to have a one plus one. I jump phones so I left. Hey...its what I do. What I am hoping for is to prove a point on why my one plus one got way better battery life then my G3 does. Virtually the same specs. Same carrier...same apps. Now. Here is where someone with a 1+1 comes in. Using this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.iattilagy.usemon you can monitor the GPU usage if you scroll down a bit. Would prefer a relatively stock like setup. It doesn't even require root. Just run this app for about a half hour using no games or anything just oh idk. Texting, hangouts, Tapatalk, no gaming. I want to see what the GPU freq it runs at most often in that 30 min. Then snap a screen shot and PM or post it here.
Hopefully someone will help me out with this.

Also, any particular reason you jumped to the G3?
EDIT: I run a very stock setup , running CM12 nightlies. No background apps like skype or whatever, either. Should be perfect for a comparison.

Perfect! Not really any particular reason besides same specs and slightly smaller bezel. Never figured the difference would be night and day. 1+1 wins in my book.
G3 battery life is horrid imho. I got 7-8hrs screen on almost daily. With he g3 only about 3 give or take. Got a 9000 mah battery now. Things a brick but I get 11-12 hrs screen on. Its sad. With this battery and my old 1+1 I'd feel comfortable in saying 20hrs screen on min probably 24

Yep the GPUs are working about the same. Has to be the screen it self that makes it such a hog whether it be the QHD since they both IPS displays.
