Yellow tint issue on S4's screen - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I have this annoying yellow tint on my S4's screen, but disappears when the phone is tilted over 45 degrees. Is this faulty ? Shall I return it ? Or is there a way I can fix the gamma through an app without rooting the phone ?

Mine doesn't look like that, sorry. But I have lag. ):

Is it just in Chrome?
Try Chrome Settings ---> Developer Tools ---> Uncheck 'Enable Tilt Scrolling'

@raqball nope this is found everywhere, even instagram and facebook.

Ah, no clue then sorry..

@raqball can you do a quick check with yours, similar to the one I did and let me know what you get ?

Go to settings display screenmode and use something else other than adapt display. Im currently using dynamic and my tint is gone.
ATT S4 Rooted. Beastin.
4.2.2

I had it on standard all this time (including screenshot) .. Putting it on dynamic gives the same result :

Damn I was hoping it was that because it fixed it for me. Maybe a hardware issue?

@stevehkim I'm not sure tbh .. thanks for the suggestion though. It's quite annoying after I realised that it exists ... Didn't bother me before I noticed it :\

I found an app called Screen Adjuster but its not really efficient.

I had this with my S3 and got used to it. I was told in those forums that this is just how these AMOLED screens are made.

My display is perfectly white though... Side by side comparisons between the Note II, Microsoft Surface RT (perfect white display), and a Sony HDTV. My S4 beats or meets them all.

Can you post a picture comparing your screen to a laptop's screen ? I just want to see how different it looks. Also, do you suggest I return it to the store and get another one ?

I would return it rather than regretting it later. It defiantly doesn't look right.

Acer 24" LCD Monitor vs S4
I'll do one of my Surface or TV later.
I made a Pure White image to use for testing on the S4, use it instead of Chrome which uses a grey color in it's UI and for some reason the S4 screen brightness dims on Chrome automatically (and you can't change it). Download it if you want to do comparisons again.

Problems with display

hello, well you just left on the screen attached to the board when you set a white background or some application that has a white background you see a thin green line? or is it just my case? try to look you can barely see, but you see ... miraccomando with a white background is dark .. if no one sees practically nothing ... try to check the open page of google and look on the edge of the left is or there is a tiny green line?
hmmm weird.. but that is actually true.. its just like one thin line of green pixels
yes, just like one thin line of green pixels
I see it too, and I really don't think its a problem. Didn't even notice it until now.
i dont notice it in my daily use of the phone though.. if i did, i would probaly get it fixed.. its only when it is a completly white background, like google

ok, I was concerned that this green line of pixels related only to my galaxy s...thanks

It's not a line of pixels, it's either an unused part of the screen's matrix, a sealing material for the screen layer casing, or the tip of the integrated touch panel.
Either way, what you see is not a part of the 800X480 matrix you've been promised, and i really had to make an effort untill i saw it. If this thread wouldn't be here, i would never know it's there.
It sometimes boggles my mind how far people would go to find "problems" with their new belongings, it's like they like to complain.
Look closely on the other side, A thin grey/purple line! omg
Isnt this all related to pentile ? thats what I thought initialy.
I have the same thing but don't see it as a problem.

meh, i guess sarcasm doesn't work in text.
Anyways, the same green line is there. Not suprising considering the screen is made by samsung as well.
This is related to the PenTile Matrix. I don't know the order of the pixels on the SGS so I can't exactly explain why it's the way it is. Anyways this is the difference:

Looks like a minor bug. Put a black to white edge inwards from the edge and there is no green band. Not hard to fix, but dont much care about it either.
Samsung's Galaxy S uses an RGBW stripe, opposed to the N1's RG:BG stripe.
Here's some info:

i have the same "issue". a bit annoying to be honest.
i have a problem with my galaxy s. i had root my galaxy. and install rayanZa lag fix. but the problem is about freezing screen ! when i am typing an sms the down corner of display at most freezes. its random. when i press power button and again prees it(tyrn off on display) it works goood again. or when i am sliding top bar to end of display(down) fully it sticks and i must press back button to close this bar. i did hard reset and flashing but its same yet... i did screen diagnostic test by the codes and it seem ok. display seems normal and no dead pixel it seems to have. all phisycall seems normal. sorry for my bad english . whats problem? any solution?
just to confirm if everyone is talking about the same lines i am seeing on SGS.
here are pics
there is a line intercepting the search box
http://i55.tinypic.com/2isfjif.jpg
there is a line beside the S in the middle of the pic (or intercepting the S) and there is another one directly below that line.

Screen blemish/burn - Take a look!

Hi all,
Recently purchased an International S3 on a Vodafone UK contract.
I was surfing the internet last night and noticed a rather odd mark had appeared on the screen.
Think I might have to send it back as the mark will not disappear and is very noticable on a white background.
It also shows up on all the Red, Green and Blue screen tests in the service menu.
What do you think? The mark is on the bottom left edge!

Hi guys,
Sent this back to Samsung today. Got to be without the phone for a good 15 days sigh!
The company I got the phone with only offer 7 day return policy Great!!
Will be interesting to see if I get the same device back or if they replace it.

Its not as bad as it looks likes on the Pic.
The photo was taken with an iPhone 4 and the camera of the iPhone 4 has a lens which makes the center of the pic blueish.
Your screen looks a bit purple but every SAMSUNG GALAXY SIII has this.
I see no reason to return your phone.
But does anyone have an idea what that is? It doesn't look like screen burn...what could cause that?

I have no issue with the overall colour of the screen. However, I do have a problem with the horrible piss stained mark that has appeared on the bottom left of the screen!!
Excellent!! Got my phone back today after 8 days without it.
Samsung have apparently repaired it, however I cannot check because they did not send my battery back with the phone!
Nice one Samsung, very proffesional!
To top it off they said a new battery will be sent and should be there on mon/tue next week.
Great! Another week without my phone.
Knew I should of got the iPhone...
I've had my phone a little over a month now and I've never experienced that. I also heard that the led fatigue issue wasn't so dangerous on the S3 as it was on the Galaxy Nexus and previous sAMOLED screen devices.
i had some similiar screen problems so i changed my s3 three times and all of them had the same problem with the screen so i got my money back and now i am wating on the Note 2

Green tint

Do you have the problem that your screen has a slightly green tint?
It is possible to get rid of it by using apps like "filter your screen" (just add more red and even more blue). But there's no comparison to tools like voodoo color (v1 and gamma correction) on a galaxy nexus/s.
"Filter your screen" biggest problem is that it kills the good black level performance on an oled, contrast is lowered too much for my taste...
Do you guys know some better alternatives (even with enabled root or other hacks)?

It's a screen problem, not caused by the software. But it is possible to get rid of it porting a kernel module called "ColorControl" which was used in many Galaxy Nexus' custom kernels.
Yes during my Galaxy S days i used to have vodoo colour which used to make the screen look amazing, waiting for supercurio or anyother developer to port the option to galaxy note2

So you have the same problem?
As far as I know ColorControl is just a port of voodoo color from the Galaxy S1. So it should be possible to port it to the Galaxy Note 2 as well. Otherwise I'm going to return this nice device with that sh***y display. I will never buy a smartphone with an amoled display again!

Yesterday I went to a store here in Germany, and the Note 2 there had the same color cast.
I really like the Note 2 but I hate its display. This is embarrassing for Samsung!
Exchange your device.
Looks like this is screen problem, I have perfect white color. Try to test it from *#0*# menu (type this combination at phone app)
Got my replacement today: Gues what?! Exactly the same...
At least the build quality is much better.
I've noticed the same green tint that kind of goes away the brighter the phone gets. My eyes adjust after a few minutes though and I can't really see it. I would really like to get a colortemp/hue adjuster though.
Too bad you guys got faulty screens, as i have slight blue tint on my screen but i absolutely love this! I had One X 6 months and i would never want to change this display to that on One X, this is the best display i've ever seen. I guess it's just me then...

I think the color calibration is totally off on this phone. They chose to calibrate it this way, and it is out of my hands so it doesn't bother me because I love the device. Videos look great when I want to watch them.
Color is all relative because you cannot choose the color of the ambient light around you, so you are never seeing the pure color unless you are in a controlled environment. So why get hung up about how inaccurate the color looks on something in comparison to something else that's not bouncing the true color you're looking for?

Ink spots in S4 ?

A friend of mine used today a S4 and says it has some Ink spots.
Anyone else have Ink Spots?
.
You mean like these on the SGS3? I'd be surprised if the SGS4 didn't have them. The N2 did. My N2 may or may not have them because I've never looked at its display on a solid grey background with brightness turned down to zero in a dimly lit room as I don't typically use my phone on a solid grey background at zero brightness in a dimly lit room. There are always multi-page threads in every Galaxy with a SAMOLED display's forum talking about the "ink marks." Yet other then in the situation I described its never affected anyone in everyday use. People that this is going to freak out shouldn't buy a SAMOLED display.

What Barry said. Those blotches are pretty much standard. If you go "looking" for things, you could see backlight lines on perfectly white backgrounds on LCD too if you're REALLY looking for it. The thing is none of these are even nearly noticeable on daily usage. And neither do they interfere with your usage tbh.
That said, if you're buying the phone to view an entirely black image in a pitch dark room with low brightness, then avoid any AMOLED devices
GS4 has greatly reduced DC Bias. Much better contrast than the GS3 and Galaxy Nexus.
I remember having them on my old SGS3. Really annoyed me so I feel your pain.

Yep, every single SAMOLED device, Samsung or not, has it AFAIK. Degrees might vary, but it's there.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1365032
There are some members saying that apparently applying heat reduces the effect, not even gonna try it though. It is not that noticeable on my Note 2 even on low brightness/pitch black screen on pitch black room. S II users were the ones who had real torrid time with blotches.

Yeah, definitely don't try this. Can't remember where now but someone had this complaint about their Note II and went and used a heat gun on it. Suffice to say that "tiny annoyance" turned into a "I've got to call and get a replacement and this is going to be an awkward conversation". No idea if he got it replaced under warranty or not.
I didn't know.
Now i'm well informed, and will buy my S4 on May.
I've had that on my SGS2, the screen was gorgeous so no worry.
I don't think even there are some black spots, anybody can recognize them
The black on S4 is tooooooooooooo black, much much much deeper black than Note 2
I can still see the luminance on Note 2 in dark room, not S4

Now as the phones reaching users can anyone confirm in pitch black the amoled output? To me that's the most impressive improvement dating back to when amoled first went HD on the galaxy nexus and lost that level of output.
Yes, it is totally black. Way better than S3 and Note 2.
The blacks are the best I've ever seen.
The pixels are completely off, as opposed to previous amoled screens where there was still a light glow.
Wanted to give this Q too I had previously SGS2 and SGS3 is it even better than SGS2 display in the case of black displaying? I was very satisfied with SGS2 blacks... THX

It's much better., Infact it''s impossible to get better blacks as the pixels are completely off.
I was always disappointed with previous phones as in a dark room once your eyes focused the blacks would look light grey and you could see blotches and streaks.
On the s4 you see nothing at all.
If you switch your phone on in the dark all you see is the samsung logo on the screen, nothing else.
perfect THX for response I hope that will have zero stuck/dead pixels
That's amazing. It's pretty poor form that all reviews as far as I'm aware have stated the previous amoleds with that slight glow as infinite black.
Anyway the S4 finally has something I'm really jealous of now. Another question similarly relating, does the brightness go lower than the S3?
?????? Galaxy S3 ??????
I think something is wrong with mine. I have the Galaxy S3 and I would say it's a really dark gray, not quite black. But on the S4, I'd say it has a reddish tint to it when I have it all black in a dark room. I may try and take a picture of it tonight.
