[Q] Problem with light bleeding (kind of) at the right of the screen

Anyone else noticed this issue ??
There is a spot at the right (in the red circle ) which is quite brighter.
This is noticeable only in bright backgrounds (white websites, market etc..)
You can not notice it at all on black or other dark backgrounds (youtube app etc..)

Mate, you should look at the screen on the Transformer in a darkened room.
Believe me, that's lightbleed, but not as we know it.
Search youtube for asus eee pad transformer lightbleed issue and see what I mean

I returned my first A500 because it had really bad light bleed. I guess that's what you would call it, but its like the opposite of the other tablets blight bleed complaint, noticeable on white backgrounds but went away with dark ones.

Exactly..
Its the opposite from what other devices have, but its still annoying in the same way

Either way, if it's a fault which spoils your enjoyment of the product then it's not acceptable in a product at this price point.
I returned 3 transformers with the same issue before I got pi$$ed off enough to ask for a refund.
Take it back if you are not happy and email support, they will only know about a potential issue if people are scrupulous about quality control.

I have the same problem so I took the a500 back to best buy for an exchange. The geek quad guy looked at the tablet and told me it is normal and refused the exchange. According to him, there is a light bulb that runs across the screen and the bright spot is the result of close contact between the bulb and the screen. He said that I could either return it or keep it but no exchange. His reason, once the tablet is opened, it can't be sold to other customers and he does not want me to end up return the exchanged tablet which will hurt the company's profit. I was like, sure, the iconia is the only product in the store and by the way, you should be an employee of the month for looking after best buy like that.

I really have noticed this issue on every device i ever held in my hands !!
This must be some general problem.. !!

i m really surprised that only a few people reported back on this issue !!

My screen does not have this problem. Maybe your screens are too tight? In fact my Asus netbook does have this problem, (kind of), because it's backlit by LEDs.
Does anyone know what the backlighting is on these Iconias? Did anyone take one apart?

I also noticed this a bit when I was doing some pdf reading with the tablet vertically oriented. Pretty much the exact same spot, but it sounds like it was manufactured that way by the responses of some of the other people on here.

Same problem here at the same spot. Pretty annoying when reading e-books for example. Is there something we can do ?

DSLR Photo Illustration of visible screen burn + ink marks issue

Hey xda members,
just had a bit of spare time so I decided to make some photos of my GS2 while displaying a totally black screen.
Normally you can only see these "effects" when you're in a completely dark room while looking at the GS2 being the only light-emitting source through its display.
Note: The actual purpose of this thread is to educate those people who can't imagine what burn-in/ink marks look like in reality. That's it, just plain visual information.
So I hope this isn't an issue even if there may already be a similar thread
I made some of the photos with the roomlights turned off and others with a very dim light.
The photos were shot using a Nikon D3100 DSLR with long exposure/high aperture settings.

As you can see in the first photo (below), even if the GS2's display shows a completely black image, which should result in a black display (OLED = pixel off) it shows weird marks and still emits a tiny amount of light.
In the second photo I have marked all the relevant weird spots (including screen burn-in caused by grey status bar [see below, marked by arrow])
The OLEDs in the burn-in area seemed to wear out faster because of the static grey shade it was displaying all the time thus resulting in this permanent color change in the affected area.
This burn-in was apparently caused by this theme which I was using for several months. As you can see, even the status bar in a dark grey shade can cause burn in.

Hope this helps in any way and gives those people an impression who can't really imagine how screen burn-in can be caused and how these display issues (ink marks) actually look like when you capture them properly.

Very interesting indeed. Thanks for the great images, it's certainly an eye-opener to one of the main drawbacks of S-AMOLED screens.

Hope this is no news? Every AMOLED burns in (like crazy). Been doing that since the first models were on the market.
Every SGS2 has it, whether people say yes or no. On my SGS2 it was clearly visible after around six months. Knew it beforehand so it was no biggie/surprise.

Yeah, also knew it before buying but I never thought the burn-in would look like that so I thought I'd share my experience with the world
While it does look pretty bad on the photos, you can't really see these issues when the screen is turned on with decent brightness, so it's no issue for every day use, but it would be interesting to know how the burn-in looks like if you use your phone for example 3 years.
Still, it looks already really horrible after 9 months of use when you look at the photos. I hope the OLED-technology makes a giant leap forward in the next years so one day these display issues will be a thing of the past.

thanks for the images, i find it disgusting to have that burnt in on a topline expensive phone in short time.
this is my first amoled phone so i dont know what to expect after a year or so, its bad for those who keep thier phones long term, would like to see how the screen is in 5 years time

Well, it depends while watching a movie. Sometimes I can see the burn-in in movies with a lot of dark scenes, in other movies this issue is not apparent.
Either way..since I discovered this issue, I cannot ignore it anymore which doesn't mean it annoys the hell out of me but still it's a pity to see the phone 'degrading' already after not even a year and spending a lot of money on it.

Green tint

Do you have the problem that your screen has a slightly green tint?
It is possible to get rid of it by using apps like "filter your screen" (just add more red and even more blue). But there's no comparison to tools like voodoo color (v1 and gamma correction) on a galaxy nexus/s.
"Filter your screen" biggest problem is that it kills the good black level performance on an oled, contrast is lowered too much for my taste...
Do you guys know some better alternatives (even with enabled root or other hacks)?

It's a screen problem, not caused by the software. But it is possible to get rid of it porting a kernel module called "ColorControl" which was used in many Galaxy Nexus' custom kernels.

Yes during my Galaxy S days i used to have vodoo colour which used to make the screen look amazing, waiting for supercurio or anyother developer to port the option to galaxy note2

So you have the same problem?
As far as I know ColorControl is just a port of voodoo color from the Galaxy S1. So it should be possible to port it to the Galaxy Note 2 as well. Otherwise I'm going to return this nice device with that sh***y display. I will never buy a smartphone with an amoled display again!

Yesterday I went to a store here in Germany, and the Note 2 there had the same color cast.
I really like the Note 2 but I hate its display. This is embarrassing for Samsung!

Looks like this is screen problem, I have perfect white color. Try to test it from *#0*# menu (type this combination at phone app)

Got my replacement today: Gues what?! Exactly the same...
At least the build quality is much better.

I've noticed the same green tint that kind of goes away the brighter the phone gets. My eyes adjust after a few minutes though and I can't really see it. I would really like to get a colortemp/hue adjuster though.

Too bad you guys got faulty screens, as i have slight blue tint on my screen but i absolutely love this! I had One X 6 months and i would never want to change this display to that on One X, this is the best display i've ever seen. I guess it's just me then...

The phone is bad with out your touch

I think the color calibration is totally off on this phone. They chose to calibrate it this way, and it is out of my hands so it doesn't bother me because I love the device. Videos look great when I want to watch them.
Color is all relative because you cannot choose the color of the ambient light around you, so you are never seeing the pure color unless you are in a controlled environment. So why get hung up about how inaccurate the color looks on something in comparison to something else that's not bouncing the true color you're looking for?

Does the screen have a bluish tint in the whites similar to galaxy s3?

have they improved it? I can't find any close picture comparisons.. Thanks.

Looks better, but still there. I guess they're doing it to increase screen life or something, but absolutely hate that.
Once I installed Perseus on my Note II, I could hardly believe I'm looking at the same screen. Looks even better than iPhone 5 after calibration

I believe posters on here claimed cost reasons. too bad.. I prefer the overall design and build, screensize to handset ratio of the s4, but like the htc one screen..

That might not be apparent in normal vision though. S3 has noticeable graininess, but the pixel density on S4 should pretty much settle that IMO.
And I don't know if they took the screenshot with adobe RGB mode or saturated standard mode.
I love SAMOLED, but just wish if they could switch entirely to RGB. Wouldn't mind paying a few extra bucks either tbh if they implemented that on Note 3.

I don't think they can manufacture FHD 1080p yet. At least not in the amounts that the GS4 would demand at a reasonable price.

Yup, two issues: sharpness and color. It looks like the higher resolution overcame the less sharp drawback of pentile, but color tint looks is still there. need to verify what color mode the phone was in though.

welll, just got back from store. htc one's have multiple dipslay with different WB. but the s4 definitely had better WB in my eyes.

Why is this thread even open ? Amoleds will always have a bluish tint. LCDs always have better whites but suffer on black levels.

if you read my response, you'll see that the One has a more bluish tint than the S4.

Searched google and couldn't find user input on the black level. According to that early test by a Chinese site they found black level to be extremely good. Here's the image

Now as the phones reaching users can anyone confirm in pitch black the amoled output? To me that's the most impressive improvement dating back to when amoled first went HD on the galaxy nexus and lost that level of output.

Yes, it is totally black. Way better than S3 and Note 2.

The blacks are the best I've ever seen.
The pixels are completely off, as opposed to previous amoled screens where there was still a light glow.

Wanted to give this Q too I had previously SGS2 and SGS3 is it even better than SGS2 display in the case of black displaying? I was very satisfied with SGS2 blacks... THX

It's much better., Infact it''s impossible to get better blacks as the pixels are completely off.
I was always disappointed with previous phones as in a dark room once your eyes focused the blacks would look light grey and you could see blotches and streaks.
On the s4 you see nothing at all.
If you switch your phone on in the dark all you see is the samsung logo on the screen, nothing else.

I think something is wrong with mine. I have the Galaxy S3 and I would say it's a really dark gray, not quite black. But on the S4, I'd say it has a reddish tint to it when I have it all black in a dark room. I may try and take a picture of it tonight.

I think its every device or atleast very common, but most people havent notice it (atleast not yet) . Ive come to realize its software related so im not freaking out yet. Just posted this in the ATT forums: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40841213&postcount=104

It is honestly that black that when I was waiting on a video to buffer in my pitch black room that it looked like the blue circle was floating!! literaly no light on screen apart from the blue circle. It actually looks really cool lol

its pitch black, i tried finding some ink spots/ blotches and black level last night but failed miserably

There is a comparison between S3 and S4 black/grey scale in this video, FFW to 17:10 (or watch the whole unboxing and comparison to HTC One video if you want).
