I've had the Nexus 6P for a month now and video playback has always been wonky
Every few minutes the video and audio feed cuts out and then comes back a second later. It happens on Mx Player and VLC and it's infuriating me. Was thinking of trying a custom rom to see if this fixed it.
Anyone else have similar issues or some advice?

Is anyone experiencing any issues with the builtin video player? I am currently on cm4.2.7 and have experienced this on others too, I will be streaming a video from youtube or other media websites and to begin with the player will work ok but after a while (couple of minutes) the videos start to stutter and eventually it fails.
I had to go back to my old stock rom for a few hours today and found that when I used the video player on that I had no problem at all.
Any ideas?
I have the Verizon Note 3 and whenever I try to play a video from an internet site such as a news clip etc...it is all choppy and lags. This happens no matter what browser I use (Chrome or Stock) and does the same thing when using MX Player or the built-in video player. Not sure what's going on. I originally had the power save mode enabled and thought that may be causing it, but I turned it off, rebooted and video still lags. I had no issues with my Nexus 7 playing embedded videos so I am not sure what's going on. This phone has powerful hardware so I have to believe it's something software related?? Wanted to add this is happening while using wifi or 4G, doesn't seem to matter.
Any input?

There are 2 things you can do to improve video playback on your Note 3:
1. Install MX Player, go to its settings and download the NeoN.zip driver. After you install that (unzip first) and put video and audio playback on HW+ (also in the MX Player settings) the video playback part is done. This gives you DTS playback also.
2. Unfortunately there seems to be a problem with Wifi communication, for which afaik no clear solution exists. I'm trying to see if another model router solves the issue since several posters on this forum reported having no Wifi issues at all. Maybe a topic should be started to see what router chipsets are causing problems.
Activate the, Force GPU Rendering, in the Developers Options , and see if it will make any difference.

Try turning off the Smart Screen options, like Smart Stay and Smart Pause etc. Maybe that will work?

Thanks for all the replies. After switching MX player to H/W + the video is smooth as butter. I also enabled Force GPU rendering in Developer Options as well. Looks like I'm good to go.
Appreciate the help.

I did this and my stock player still stops and plays every few secs. The on screen buttons come up and show it is pause. Its almost as something is reading that the screen has been pressed. My web videos play fine as does DicePlayer.
I am also having trouble with audio playback using Poweramp. The music gets louder and softer randomly, and i get distortion and crackling/popping sounds as well. Using the stock player seems fine.
Anyone have these issues?
Dice Player fixes the issue. Download it and make it your video player.
Weird little problem with my Galaxy S4, tried 3 different roms including stock 4.4.2.
Was wondering if someone knew of possible solutions.
videos freeze, audio keeps playing, then after a few seconds, the video resumes in fast forward, until it catches up with the audio.
It's nice that it forwards and catches up, but how can I prevent this?
At first I thought it was MX player, but I noticed it happened while using netflix as well.
Doesn't always happen, which is the annoying. I managed to watch 3 episodes of Dexter without a problem, then the 4th, problem.
On a different day, the first video I tried, it plays fine, then about 20 minutes into the video, freezes.
Aside from an Odin restore and wiping everything, does anyone have any suggestions on fixing video related problems on android?
Edit: Crap , it freezes when playing games too..GPU problems?
I have encountered this multiple times.
The sound is coming normally and just goes off without any reason.
The sound comes back if I pause the audio/ video and then replay. However, after 2-3nutes the sound goes back again.
The only solution is to restart the phone and then the sound is OK for around 2-3 days.
1) During listening music on google play music.
2) During watching video on VLC player
Please help. Its a very annoying issue.
Edit:: this is a default Australian nexus with default rom and all the updates from Google. NOT rooted.
No replies? No suggestions? Comeon guys. Nexus 6P deserves to be issued free.
Hey. I've never had this issue on my phone. I don't use vlc but I use play music a lot and I've never really had that. If all else fails, do a reset? Or a manual flash of a stock image. See if that helps.
I started experiencing that large video playing on YouTube lags the sound, especially when a video is long. The sounds go way ahead from the video. It looks like the phone lacks the ram or performance but it has a decent tech specification, should be an issue, especially when I play a video on a low resolution. Has anyone else experienced the same issue?
I have a similar issue with video playback. However, it is not only with youtube, it is with all videos. Even those on google photos, etc. The playback timer doesn't start, but the video starts with no sound, then the playback timer starts with the sound and the video freezes until the sound catches up with the video. The issue disappears with a restart and only started happening recently. Very odd.
Made an account for this lul... Anyways it seems like I fixed the issue on my phone, I disabled the mobile manager, let me know if that works for you. Good luck
I had to update youtube
