Display problem/yellowish left side

Just got my new SGS2 3 days ago, really liking it but stumbled into a screen problem and would like to know if it's just me/it's normal/I need to change a setting to fix the problem.
Just like the title says, the left side (about 1/3) of my screen changes the colour of the image to a more yellowish tint. This seems to happen just when the brightness is quite low, and tends to disappear when close to 100%.
It is rather subtle, but can be seen where there's white text on a darker background (white characters become darker the closer they are to the left border), or when looking at an uniform colour.

When visiting it on the S2 browser and setting browser brightness to around 20%, it becomes quite visible.
Anybody else with the same problem?

We still DO NOT have pictures of a phone WITHOUT the problem described above!
If you believe your SGS2 has a perfect screen, please post pics of the notification area taken in the dark at both 0-20% brightness and 100% brightness!

I have just sent an email to GSMarena asking if they could check the unit they reviewed to see if it has the same problem. Of all the phone reviews I have seen, theirs seems to be the most focused on image quality, I'm sure that if their unit doesn't have this problem, they would be able to take clear shots of a flawless screen.

GSMarena took screens of their unit using the above test link, and while so far I believe theirs is the best looking display that we have seen so far, it *STILL* has the problem.
I am going to link this thread to samsung UK next, in the hopes they will give an official answer acknowledging the problem.

latest firmwares seem to fix this problem or at least make it much less noticeable.

Take it straight back and swap it. Seems to be a growing amount of people on here, including myself, with various dodgy screen issues.

The screen doesn't look perfect if you look at a uniform color on the whole screen + low brightness, but... well I don't tend to use it much for that. Could be a limitation in OLED production-technology getting all the pixels to have exactly the same brightness/color etc.

To answer directly to the question here, no I don't have a yellowish left side. It's just not completely uniform across the whole screen.

I've got this same thing. I first noticed it when using Estrongs file explorer. I always have my screen turned down to 0% to save battery, but didn't notice this anywhere else yet (at least I didn't think about it).
Your posted image does show it clear.
What to do? Could you others comment whether you've seen this? Go to the OP's posted link and set your brightness down to 0%.

I tried to mess around with settings such as auto adjust screen power etc, but the only thing that seems to fix it is crank up the brightness.
We obviously can't keep it anywhere close to 100% tho, this phone sucks battery down quickly already at 0%!
Another thing you can do to check if you have this screen problem is call *#*#0*#*#*
This will make the phone go in the diagnostic program, and if you try the white diagnostic, you can somewhat see the problem, although not quite as clearly as in the test web page I posted above.
I'm considering to return the phone, as it doesn't seem to be getting better, despite having read that some screen problems might go away after a few days.

Mine is exactly the same. It's noticeable at the lowest brightness setting, however if I increase the brightness even slightly it pretty much disappears for general use. It's still there but not really enough to bother me.
On the OP's link I changed the brightness through several settings and at certain brightness levels the whole screen gets a yellow tint. Not necessarily related to the left side of the screen having a yellow tint, apart from I guess a lack of brightness of the blue subpixels relative to the red and green.
I'm not sure if I'm imagining it but I think it has improved slightly on mine over the past week. However if it gets any worse I think a warranty claim will be in order.

Hhrrmm, I'm in a catch-22 here. There's generally a grace period for any manufacturing errors like this where you can quickly get a replacement just by returning it to the vendor. Problem is, my vendor won't be getting any new units in for another two weeks.

I don't see it clearly on the link he posted.
But i do see it in the notification screen. The grey area is slightly darker/yellow tint on the left site. Even when i put it on maximum brightness you could see it. Especially when you first concentrate your eyes on the right side for 5 seconds and than on the left side.
I do seem to notice it on the notification grey slider where your finger is on when you pull it down, on the left side the grey is a little bit "darker" than on the right side of mt finger.
I tend to think I can also see it on the keyboard, whereas the Q has different grey than P on the opposite of the screen...
Anybody could check this out on their phone??

As time goes by, it feels like my problem is getting worse, although it may only be due to me being aware of it.
Also began noticing it in the pull-down message field. Now I see it against white backgrounds as well, almost like a faint green-grey shadow.
I've contacted my vendor and requested an RMA and replacement. They're sending me a shipping slip to send it to them "for control" then they'll contact me on my options from there. Can only hope they see it as clearly as I do and that they send me a new phone as a replacement rather than repair/refurb crap.
Think this is the last time I buy electronics online. I saved 20% off retail on this one, but having the option to do a walk-in replacement at a brick-n-mortar store would have been worth the higher price. <sigh>

Not sure I am bothered about it enough to return it, doesn't bother me unless I specifically look for it. Also it really is very slight.

If everybody has it, no problem for me.
But if the majority does not have it, I would like to have one without it. Do you think Samsung knows abouth it?
When you have a full grey pictuere or just the notification screen and you go into a perfect dark room. Can you also see, some white vertical en horizontal lines? Looks like hardware where the screen is build on?

Here is a photo I took of my screen with a grey background (see below - click on it to enlarge).
For me, its visibility seems to vary depending on the ambient light, but I'm definitely seeing more effects of it now.
Really hope I'm able to get a good replacement. Am reading quite a bit about this, banding, lines and dead/lit pixels.

so do you think it's a hardware issue, or maybe it will be gone??

The lines you mention are present both on my SGS and my SGS2. It seems to be patterns in the actual OLED pixels, and the patterns and lines are static even when you move pictures. Mostly visible on lower display brightness settings. I've gotten used to them and they don't bother me, and since I have the same thing on two SAMOLED-phones I'd chalk that one up to "just the way it is" aswell. Using anything over 50% brightness has them mostly fade into the display light so only really visible on the lowest brightness settings.

This what you mean?
My Samsung focus and Cowon s9 (which I don't even think has a samsung oled screen) have that as well on the lowest brightness, I think its inherent to the tech.

On a grey pick with full birghtness I can see them too.
On the post 2 post above yours(quist his post) you can see the lines, but now they are not white, but darker, can you confirm you see them and this is what you mean?
Do you also have the yellowish tint on the left side?

For both the SGS and SGS2, the dark lines are there for my devices aswell. They can seem a bit "grainy", and don't seem like perfectly defined lines, though they generally are always straight horizontal or vertical lines. I also have the Xperia Arc at hand, and if you look at a grey-ish image on either the SGS/SGS2, or the Xperia Arc (LCD), the Arc generally has a very smooth grey image, while the SGS/SGS2 has almost like a fine overlay of subtle lines or grids, generally darker in color than the image displayed, though not clearly defined and not completely symmetrical across the display.
Doesn't seem symmetrical enough to be a grid fo the digitizer layer or smtn like that, but definitely a pattern in the display itself. I still pick an AMOLED screen anytime of the day, the Arc display, while more uniform and "blemish"-free in this regard, still has that LCD backlight bleed-through which for me makes the display alot more tiring for the eyes.
Also my SGS2 has a very subtle tint towards yellow when viewing some of the grey test-images some people have posted. Never noticed it on my SGS1, so either I didn't look well enough, or it might be either hardware-related (something causing the pixels on the left side to perhaps not get the same amount of control voltage/whatever for the pixels, thus causing less blue/more yellowish color), or software. Either way, it is way too subtle for me to care at all, maybe this is even according to spec for the SAMOLED+ and some use will even the pixels out, not sure if anyone has some inside knowledge about the SAMOLED screens.

I am definitely seeing this problem getting worse, now it is getting rather obvious as long as phone is lit by artificial light or in the dark, while sunlight seems to make it really hard to spot, even if not direct.
I've been given advice from samsung call center to bring to phone to the closest assistance point, which I'm going to do tomorrow - hope to be able to report back that it is a known problem and they will change my unit.

I hate to make an iPhone reference here, since I'm *not* a fanboy, but Engadget reported when the IP4 was released that yellow spots and banding were due to glues that had not completely dissolved/disappeared and were part of the bonding process of the screen:

Now - the picture above showing a completely yellow left-side display - that looks 100% abnormal and I'd RUN back to the store to swap it out. I don't think that's glue related.
Download an app from the Market called "Dead Pixel Test" and run it with the white setting to see what it looks like. Is it still yellow?

Have this same issue. Noticed it right away unfortunately. It will always bother me if I deal with it.

Yes I did just receive my Galaxy note.
Let's collect a step by step check list of all problems on defective screens.
I know that many of these artifacts are very subtle, and hard to detect unless you know what you are looking for, and is especially hard when you do not have something to compare to.
I hope you can prove a check list for all new users can check..

#1. Does the screen look good when you turn it on and look at it?
Yes: your screen is not defective.
No: your screen may be defective.
Really the only common "defects" that have been discussed here are a thread or two started by someone extra anal that happened to notice a common, but very slight artifact most likely related to the manufacturing process. When viewing a solid black background with brightness on high while in a pitch black room with your eyesight adjusted to the darkness, you can notice blotchy darker areas in the black. Every amoled I've had has had this "defect."
Some people also complain about the default color temperature and complain that it's more of a greenish tint. Every amoled phone I've had so far has had those same complainers, also.
If it looks good when you turn it on and use it, there's absolutely no reason to take a microscope to it looking high and low for defects. If you think yours is too greenish, return it and try another. Color temperatures and tints do differ from panel to panel. I had 3 nexus ones and each looked slightly different.

I doubt very much if you have seen the individuals screen so what you say is based on guesswork. I have been using amoled screens for nearly 2 years and have never seen anything like this. A movie hired from the market was actually unwatchable on my note. I could not even make out what was on the screen at times. Even video and pictures taken by the onboard camera are very poor quality when viewed on the note. There is also an issue with banding and auto brightness changing randomly. Yours may be fine, mine was not.

I actually noticed these black blotches in a completely black room with a pure black screen YEARS ago on my Zune HD. I was freaked out then as I thought I had a bum one. After awhile I found every one had this issue. Since I don't stare at screens with nothing on them in the dark I didn't worry.
I wouldn't get too freaked out by the black splotches as long as it is decent and you don't have any bad pixels (bad pixels are a dealbreaker to me).

So the Nexus 4’s potentially quality screen has crappy screen issues. There. I said it.
What I mean is that it’s a GREAT screen in some ways (resolution mainly) but it’s let down by what seems to be noticeably poor quality/manufacturing.
Why do I say this? Well, it’s been my experience that the Nexus 4 (in general) has a chronic problem with significantly poor screen uniformity for both colour and brightness. I ordered my first phone on the 13th December 2012 and as soon as it arrived I was pretty excited at finally getting a new phone (upgrading from Galaxy S1 the N4 is a beautiful beast).
When I booted it up and started using it I immediately got a sinking feeling as I realised that the bottom third of the phone had a slight but easily noticeable yellow gradient tint to it along with the left edge and the right edge was grey/dingy about a half a centimetre in. The left side and bottom third were also noticeably brighter than the right side of the phone. I’ve illustrated this in the attached pic. It’s all fairly subtle – but it’s definitely there and is easy to see.
Since I use (like most people I guess) quite a few apps that have white or solid colour backgrounds (gmail, currents, google books, email, messaging, chrome etc) – this lack of uniformity really made things look crappy in a not spectacular but just “sub-par” way unless I was viewing something which was a picture or video or filled the screen where it wasn’t noticeable.
So I called Google Play and told them about the problem and they arranged for a return.
When I got my replacement I booted it up and immediately, even before getting past the X logo animation noticed a big spot of light bleed at the top right. *Very* easy to see and my heart sank.
There on in I opened up the Mail app and closed the keyboard so I got a nice, mainly white screen. Again I noticed the same issue with the yellowing tint to the bottom and left but this time it was *more* noticeable.
To cut this long story short I’ve now sent back 3 devices for this issue, about to send back my 4th and my 5th should arrive tomorrow. I’m not holding out much hope.
I’ve seen this exact same issue on about 4 other Nexus 4’s in shops in the UK (Carphone Warehouse, O2) and while there looked at the HTC One X, iPhone 5 and the new Lumia phones from Nokia running Windows Phone 8. Those phones in particular (with LCD screen tech too) didn’t have these issues *at all* as far as I could tell. In fact the HTC One X screen looked to me to be flawless, as did the Lumia 820 and 920. If I could put the screen from the One X into the N4, I would. Sadly, not gonna happen. Sadly I don’t want the One X but do want an N4. P.S. I know LG manufacture their own displays.
Now I’m NOT claiming to speak for ALL N4’s (why I’ve started this thread) but I do believe that it cannot be a coincidence that ALL the N4’s *except one* showed this issue. I believe that LG simply manufacture the screens in such a way that they invariably have these tinting and brightness uniformity inconsistencies and that because most people don’t care, they don’t care.
********What I’d like is to ask if people with an N4 they’re happy with could do the following and provide the following info:
*Open the Mail app and close the keyboard (press down arrow at bottom). Look at the white of the screen and see if there is any edge or part of the screen that is noticeably *brighter* or *more yellow*. Are there any areas of the screen that are noticeably darker or duller? Do this for different brightnesses (low and fairly high). What do you see? Any yellow tint? Any inconsistency in brightness? All ok? Perfectly even?********
TL;DR: I’ve had 4 Nexus 4’s from Google Play all with the same yellow tint and brightness uniformity issues. Very noticeable. Not acceptable to me for a device that displays a lot of white “pages” and solid colours. Other phones (that I don’t want) do not have this issue (annoying). Please can you give feedback from your phone.
PLEASE NOTE:
Other threads discussing the “yellow tint” issue invariably attract trolls in their varying forms.
DO NOT reply to this thread if you simply want to say any of the following:
1) I don’t see a problem with mine therefore I don’t understand what you’re talking about.
2) I don’t see a problem with mine therefore you’re imagining a problem with yours.

4) There are more important things in life to worry about. (A: I’m not “worried”, screen uniformity is important to me, get over it.)

The attached illustration is slightly "exaggerated" to make sure the effect is reproduced for all screens. Not by all that much though.
UPDATE: 31/01/2013: Well I've received *another* N4 replacement today and lo and behold the exact *same issue*. With this one I'm going to wait it out at least a week and see if it improves. I *really* want an N4 as in every other way it's truly a great piece of tech. Pray for me guys!

I've had tint issues with all three handsets. First two it didn't disappear after use. This third handset SEEMS to have gotten a little better after a week.
All three had light bleed. First one was least noticeable, last two including the current have two blobs of light bleed in the exact same places along the top of the LCD.
It's almost as if something during manufacturing (screw tightness?) has caused it on both handsets. They are both 212K and revision 11.
It's annoying me and I may do one final RMA once I see what this new wave of devices brings.

The only issue I have with my screen is poor colors. I have a One X and an iPhone 5 that I sometimes compare with my N4's screen and it's shockingly apparent that the N4's screen has colors that just aren't worthy of a top-tier device. The resolution is nice and all, but I like it when the colors are nice and accurate. It's most easy to tell when comparing images of people and looking at their skin. Now I'm no anthropologist, but I have a pretty solid grasp of what skin looks like. The One X is probably the best at representing things the way they look IRL, followed by the iPhone 5. I don't know if it's just my N4 or other people have the same issue. I've tried using apps to adjust the color (FauxClock with Faux's kernel, to be specific), but nothing makes it look quite as nice as my other phones.
I guess you never asked about the second part, but there it is.

I had that issue when I received my device, Used kernel setting to rectify the problem but after 4-5 days of use it gone away. Now device is perfect.
I recommend you to stay with it for 3-4 days before returning it and check.

Thanks for the feedback - very helpful. I got *another* one through today and it seems "better" by a bit than the previous one at least. I think I'll see how it goes. Good to know that it's not only me sho can see the difference.

All the phones I've had have been 301K and they've all had the same issue with yellow tint/backlight inconsistency in a very similar way. I'll have sent back 4 N4's if I decide to keep the current one! I think you're probably right about the screw tightness or some such other minor thing during manufacturing. It's not like a viewing angle problem. It does look like something to do with assembly in particular. Please do let me/us know how you get on and how things work out.

I used FauxClock on my previous device (sat here waiting to go back) and it did seem to improve the situation slightly - but then since the screen isn't uniform, it reduced the yellow where it was yellow but then made it too "blue" on the rest of the screen. I really hope that this yellow tint is a "glue" issue or something that will even out through repeated use due to heating/cooling - i.e. expanding and contracting which somehow settles things down. I'll keep this one about a week and see what happens. Fingers crossed!

^ this is pretty much all I can say.
Every nexus 4 phone I handled had a slightly yellower screen at the bottom. For me its barely noticeable, not as yellow as it is in your illustration.
They all seem to have that same issue, along with light bleeding across the top edge.
You can keep RMAing if you're not tired of that .. But you will not receive a fully uniform no matter what.
If screen uniformity is important for you get one of the above phones you mentioned.

Thanks for the info, that's interesting to know. Out of interest, how many have you handled? Going by some comments on XDA and around the web regarding this issue, you'd think that the yellow tint was only on a handful of handsets and an isolated quirk, not as I suspect and you seem to suggest, a common trait of the N4.

Well,
I ordered three of them, all screens looked identical with the exact same issues: some yellowing at the bottom with a light bleed over the top edge (especially top right corner). I had to RMA 2 out of the 3 due to severe screen issues (screen flickering and dead pixels). Received 2 new units, screens have the exact same issue. I have 2 friends with N4s and their screens are like that too. It's almost not noticeable.

Does the light bleed appear like small blobs from the top edge?
My worst is the top left, about an inch in. Then there's another smaller blob nearer the right hand side. Little bit leakage top right and top left, but its worst along the actual taskbar.

My first nexus 4 (rev 10) has perfect whites except the bottom of the screen would turn yellow after warming. All of the 4 RMA devices I've recieved (rev 11) don't have this issue EXCEPT all the rev 11s are calibrated horribly leading to the entire screen being yellower than my rev 10 unit. The screens are uniform, however, I just wish they calibrated the phones like they did with the rev 10.
The new rev 11s have a calibration problem while my rev 10 has a glue problem.
The new rev 11s also have a dimmer screen than my rev 10. I kinda just want them to send a perfect rev 10 to me.

Interesting because calibration issues affect the whole screen. If any part of the screen isn't the same "tint" as another part and its noticeable then this isn't something that can be fixed with calibration. Calibration can only save a uniformly "yellow" or "blue" tinted screen. To that end I wish mine was uniformly yellow. Mine is a rev 11 and I'm on my second day with it and hoping the bottom and left yellow tint fades soon and that it's just glue. I've tried Fauxclock and applying various screen tweaks with a previous similar phone and it helped somewhat but there's nothing can be done about unevenness in the tint really unless its glue and it dries.

So there is a slight pink hue in the right side of the screen. I was wondering if most 6Ps were like this, or is it a defect. I did research and found that many ppl have this issue, so maybe its just how the phone is?

If it annoys you then it probably is worth an RMA. This is a symptom of the manufacturing process with AMOLED screens, so they will all have it, some not as much, some much worse. So going for an RMA is a bit of a gamble because you don't know whether your replacement will be better or worse.

I wonder if the new Gold 6PS with the newer build dates have better chances at a uniform screen

I've seen two devices, both January build dates. One was pink across the right side, about 1/2" of noticeable area down the length of the screen. The one I currently have is less pink, but on the entire left half of the screen. It's only noticeable because the right side is more of the greenish blue typical of AMOLED whites. It's only really noticeable in dim ambient lighting, with lower brightness, on white screens (such as browsing), but only when I'm looking at the display for extended periods and trying to notice it. I just picked my phone up right now and opened Messenger, but didn't see any of the pink tint at all unless I kept staring and tried to make out a difference.
It's subjective and up to you. I wish we could all get perfect screens. But it's only visible on white content... anything else you shouldn't notice it. I just hate hearing people RMA'ing 10 times because it certainly isn't good for Google or Huawei. It's the nature of the beast with AMOLED tech currently. Unless you have something crazy bad with your display, I feel like most people are making it a larger issue than it needs to be. If you want a perfect uniform white, go get an LCD and enjoy backlight bleed, poor contrast, etc. Until AMOLED gets perfected, there is going to be a potential, but slight, trade off.

I agree with your point, but unfortunately in the case of the 6P I had to RMA for other reasons too. My volume rocker warped inwards, as so has many other people reporting on XDA and reddit threads. I am not sure how it happened, as I baby my phones and keep them well taken care of. I just took my case off one day and noticed it. There must be something wrong with the structural integrity of the device. Other than these 2 issues, the phone is perfect for me, but I am hesitant on ordering another one now.

On my second 6P the lower part of the screen has a yellowish tint while the upper seems more pinkish/warmer. My first 6P which was this year's build had a uniform but pinkish display loose rattling buttons and imbalanced speakers and bonus low volume output from 3.5 jack. The replacement had all those issues resolved except from the screen which is not uniform and it's noticeable. Problem is no Google and easy RMA process in my country. It's pain in arse to get a replacement and you have to wait up to 1 week without a device to get it and they will not repeat it for second time except if the issue is really serious. By my experience this phone has really cheap QC issues. Judging from reddit and XDA most come with some sort of problems. Be it it uneven displays, buttons, reboots, speakers etc. I won't buy a Huawei device ever again. Those issues does not let me enjoy this phone as I should. I still love it but I can't recommend it to any of my friends due to the QC issues. It's a Russian roulette with very high probability to lose.

image retention?

So far this has been the best mobile device I have ever owned from Palm, to BlackBerry, Motorola, iPhone, Samsung, Nexus, Asus. This has also been the best OS I have used to date. No lag, no battery drain, no boot loop, and I get a removable battery.
Too many features others lack for the same price with less storage for the same money as the V20.
All that being said there is a problem with this phone that also ocurred with my V10. I keep the screen on at maximum brightness all the time since battery is not an issue with this phone (I have many spare batteries). About 7 months into my V10 I started noticing "ghosting" along the left and right edge of the screen. I use white icons which means I always have a dark wall paper. I could notice a very thin whitish smear along the edges. Its not bleed like you sometimes see on the second screen. What I notice goes away when you turn off the screen a while or you switch to a lighter colored background. Then I started noticing that icons for notifications were beginning to burn into the screen when using a dark background... Very odd because this is almost always an issue with OLED screens and not LCD displays like on the LG phones. Then the screen burn in started occurint on the main screen, typically when a bright image is on the screen for a long time and when switching to a screen image with a dark background the borders of the previous image are still visible on the new image. Once the phone is off for while, again, the retention issue goes away but comes back if the same image is on the screen for more more than 30 seconds or so.
Thankfully This does not affect video playback or video streaming. Its only with digital images, logos, or text.
For those not familiar with this problem its called image retention.
I placed a warranty claim on the V10 and a new phone was sent. I traded in the replacement phone immediatley for the V20. And now only 4 months into ownership the exact same problem is occurring... Grrrreat.
When I called LG about the V10 they had no idea what I was talking about. I pointed out that this issue has been discussed in the forums for the last year.

it will go away its not really screen burn in, lcd's have this issue and its common, turn screen off for 24 hours and let the lcd cool off and the ghosting will go away. The LCD's dont have the same screen burn in that the OLED screen would.. but latent images will occur if your keeping it on non stop and high brightness. IPS at its best.
also try and use the screen burn in app and let it spam the screen with the multi colors overnight, this will help cover the burn in like ghost images.

I have had IPS displays before that were on all the time and didnt see this issue before...and I run all my devices into the ground.
My Plasma TV has latency issues, my Samsung AMOLED displays have burn in, Samsung LCDs had vertical banding, this LG IPS display has latency...so which displays are immune from premature (in less than one 12 month) issues?

V10 , V20 , G5's displays ( maybe include G6) are quantum dot IPS so they all meet image retention . Other IPS displays never meet this problem

I noticed this issue on my v20. If the phone remains off for a bit the image goes away. It can be annoying but if it doesn't hurt the phone

The screen on the V20 isn't a regular IPS, it's a "quantum dot IPS" which may be more prone to some degree of image retention due to their form of illumination (I don't know a lot about it but it's a kind of atomic luminesence) which supposedly increases colour accuracy and range while lowering the power requirement for for the backlight.
It's possible this might be the root cause of the 'ghosting' but I'm mostly guessing.
Ironic though if QD displays are prone to ghosting, and LG knowingly equipped thier phone with an always-on second screen with that tech.

Yes. I'm on my 2nd replacement for the same issue. The phone I'm typing on is now having it. The screens last anywhere from 6 to 8 months before breaking down.

Glad to see that this isn't only happening to me, I find it super annoying, I never had this happen before on other devices, and it's an unacceptable occurrence that of course nothing will be done about it, I for one can't wait to get rid of the V20.

same thing started happening to my v20 recently, around 4-5 month old phone. it's an annoyance that should happen to a flagship phone, but it looks like we're SOL...

Tilted Pixel lines Problem.
I am also facing same problem with my 3 months old LG V20 Phone.
My phone have one more Problem.
I can see pixel lining (in whole screen) even though it is quad hd display. But the problem is that it is not horizontal, It is tilted 10 degree, and there is no vertical lines that I can recognize . And it is annoying to me.
If the screen is equally pixelated then I should have seen both vertical and horizontal lines of pixel equally like you can see in TV LCD Displays.

I encourage anyone whose 12 month warranty is about to expire to file a claim. And not use the phone at maximum brightness unless outdoors. Luckily I had some other issues with the phone like NFC and the speaker being somewhat distorted and the phone was replaced for those issues as well. If you see any deterioration in any other hardware aspect of your V20 you should definitely file a warranty claim.
I plan to keep this warranty replacement for another year as the only phone with the image quality I like is the Sony Experia XZ Premium which doesn't work with Verizon. Believe it or not I compared the V20 to virtually every new OLED flagship anr they all had a dingy yellowy color compared to the V20, including the new iPhone X. The Sony was the only phone that had both the color accuracy like and LCD but the deep color pop of an OLED. Best of both worlds with the only 4K screen and battery life better than my V20

Also, I have searched for solutions to the image retention problem. Most solutions advise the use of apps that cycle through colors or simply leaving the device off for awhile. I used a color cycle app, which helped, but the issue returns. And leaving my device off is, simply put, not an option. I did come across a post about replacing the thermal paste. Any truth to this method?
But I'm wondering, if I go through with taking my phone apart to apply paste, wouldn't it be beneficial to also replace the screen as well? Or am I missing some factor I haven't read about yet?

Once image retention sets in it will return once the screen is on for long enough. I ran those screen burn in apps overnight for months. Made no difference at all. The only option is to completely replace the display if you can get it cheap.

No need to do all that, install Night Screen by paper airplane dev team and set the slider at around 80%(make sure you're on the moon icon). Also let the screen cool off before you do this and set it up. You won't really notice the filter much and all the retention problems will be a thing of the pass.

@porscheoscar - No kidding lol Replacement LCD are not cheap. I'm gonna keep an eye on them cause I want to keep my V20 as long as possible. One of the last phones, that I'm aware of, I can carry an extra battery for. I love switching batteries while my friends with their latest, greatest phones watch their battery percentage like a hawk hehe

I try not to be on my phone a lot, but I'm a gamer ;P Once phones became powerful enough to really game on, I killed my Xbox Live account & game exclusively on my phone. When I get the money I'm gonna look into getting an Android Emulator for my laptop.

A bunch of people are on here saying that they notice this ghosting problem after a few months, and that after that their phone's screen deteriorates rapidly. I just got this phone for Christmas, and I love it, but I noticed this annoying ghosting problem immediately. Should I be worried? I'm a little nervous it's getting worse.

why don't you root your phone? By rooting your phone you can change color setting by using custom kernel it help you with this problem .

You can use app Nightly from Play Store, set to 75% and ghosting effect disappear
