Ok first of all i dont have much of idea about flashing and all so i am going with OTA update.
What i have heard about steps to be taken before OTA update should be make backup of phone , factory reset, update via OTA update and then restore phone.

OnePLus Two OTA update pending as rooted

OnePLus Two OTA update pending as rooted
Update Pending: oneplus2oxygen_14_1511091726 system update ready to install
Current Build Number: Build number: ONE A2003_14_150919
Oxygen Version: 2.1.0
Model: ONE A2003
Purchased on amazon three months back and unlocked and rooted.
I have been reading numerous threads but so much scared and confused as to how to get this update which is flashing from last 6 weeks I guess.
Pls could someone explain step by step how to manually update this OTA WITHOUT wiping data pls. Also how to root again after this update.
For first time rooting I followed some YouTube video but not finding any video for above activity.
Kindly help as I have really tried my best but cannot find a way.
Just download the incremental or full stock firmware OS then put it in your devices internal storage.
GO to TWRP (Since for sure you have a custom rom hence your rooted device) and install the firmware then clear dalvich cache and cache
REBOOT, then you're good to go
Thank you for your kind reply. However Full stock firmware OS means for current build or new build post OTA.
Also I never installed any custom ROM i believe just unlocked and rooted.
What is dalvik cache and why clear it?
Pls help.
On next power on, your mobile will create dalvik cache again(when you flash a new rom, you are changing apps, so need to recreate dalvik cache, use google to know what it is).
Now is available FULL 2.1.2 Rom, so you can go to TWRP and:
1.- Wipe cache, dalvik cache and system.
2.- Flash Full 2.1.2 Rom.
3.- Flash supersu if it was or want to be root.
OTA: 2.1.2(no full rom)
1.- Wipe cache, dalvik cache and system.
2.- Flash Full 2.1.1 Rom.
3.- Flash OTA 2.1.2
4.- Wipe cache, dalvik cache
5.- Flash supersu if it was or want to be root.
Regards.
Thanks for your rpely but its too technical and summarized.
Request someone to pls explain step by step.
Pls dont ignore my thread. Kindly senior members guide me.
Pls request senior folks and gurus to help me Pls.
Hm...do you know at all what TWRP is? and how to get there?

another brick in the wall

Hi, another post about a brick I'm afraid. This brick holds a question though. I'll get to it
Friends new s5 failed an ota root (towelroot, reset then kingroot.. both fail) he didn't want custom rom just root access.
Then when trying official ota update from 4.2.2 to 6 it looped. Installation was around 10 min then the reboot stalled and just sits until it's warm.
It runs download mode and is recognised in odin.. but no recovery - it goes to update screen (android w cog in chest) and then bootloops
This softbrick 'is' fixable.. but i dont have the csc
It is a 4.4.2 telstr austrailia model.. I think it might be build that ends with an_1
BUT did it update? do I flash 4.4.2 or 6
If partition was affected before official update then it will still be 4.4.2
But if it was simply files that were damaged then it may be a corrupt 6
hmm
Much appreciated
Andy

Yeah recovery then wipe worked, I had doubted flashing since it was stuck on official update.. Thanks
For ref - loop was just from sys files being modified (prob towelroot ota)
Once wiped it would still sit on boot but now it wouldn't loop or heat up
From there I flashed og firmware w odin and wiped

rooted but running stock image... how to upgrade?

A while back i rooted my 4g plus and ran CyanogenMod for a while... it had a few small issues and people were raving how stable the stock image was so i downloaded and applied a stock image and have been running since.
Recently started getting the update notice but when i try to apply it the reboot just dumps me into TWRP, if i reboot from TWRP my phone boots back up and tells me the update has failed.
I have been googling around like crazy but am finding alot of different answers:
The download of the image is stored in cache and you just need to point TWRP to that temp image and it will upgrade
Where is the cached image stored on the phone?
Will this keep my phone rooted?
Download the latest release and apply it via TWRP like i did originally.
Will this update or wipe my phone like new?
Will the phone stay rooted?
Thanks!
I may have misinterpreted what you wrote - however, if you're referring to the stock (i.e. images from Motorola), you cannot update via OTA whilst you have TWRP recovery; the OTA updates only will flash via a stock recovery. Furthermore, the OTA update will fail if you're rooted or have other modifications to your system/recovery. Having an unlocked bootloader does not appear to matter.
In order to apply an OTA update, you'll have to un-root and flash a stock recovery onto your system, or flash a stock image (such as this Nougat fastboot image: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/moto-g4-plus-xt1640-43-athene-npj25-93-t3549369) which will remove root and TWRP on your system. Depending on what options you choose with the fastboot ROM, you can elect not to wipe your internal storage (but still a wipe of your cache and Dalvik at least is advised), check the linked topic for more information.
Then you should be able to update. Failing that, perhaps someone will be able to provide a TWRP backup of their system with the latest updates included, but from what I've seen, you may have to clear cache and data to boot.
If you wish to find the OTA update, it's not in your cache, it's actually hiding in '/data/data/com.motorola.ccc.ota/app_download'. You'll need root access to see the OTA file though.

Guide to update rooted phone?

Hello, I have my phone rooted and would like to update to NMJ51B, but I'm not exactly sure how to go about it and don't want to risk bricking my phone again! What would be the exact process to go about this? I'd like to do it without wiping my phone if possible. While I love having root, OTA updates seem to be a real headache. Any help would be appreciated!
You have to re-flash the stock boot.img from your current build via fastboot, then you should be good to go. Check for an update in the settings and update. Shouldn't have to wipe anything
You can get the boot image from the essential site or from the firmware dumps in the rom section of the essential forum. I hope this helps!

Ok, I was thinking I'd have to wipe the phone to flash a stock image. Thanks for the info!
Uh, the very first thing it says when flashing the stock rom is "erasing userdata." Are you saying it's NOT going to wipe my phone?
Annnnd, it wiped everything, including the backup I created with TWRP. For future reference, does anyone have a step by step that does NOT wipe data?

You don't have to flash the whole package just the boot.img. But it sounds as if you already wiped. I should have clarified. In the guide to how to root your essential, if you read through, others have explained how to unroot without wiping.

[Suppot] OnePlus 5 doesn't boot after OTA update

Hey,
I didn't updated my phone for quite some time and today I had some free time and I decided to update it to the latest version. I performed the first OTA update, and the process wen't really smooth. The phone booted after a few minutes, however it told me there's another system updated so I installed it as well.
However, after installing the second OTA update, my phone never booted again. it stucks in bootloop for a few minutes and then just boots to recovery.
I don't really know what to do, and although most of my data is backed up I really want to avoid wiping all the data.
The phone was never rooted and has stock recovery. How can I make it boot without wiping all the data? I did try to wipe cache already and it didn't help.
I see that there is a method called 'adb sideload' but I want to be sure it doesn't wipe data and to know which zip I should give it... Thanks!
