Verizon or Sprint version on T-Mobile? - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm on tmo and am considering the Moto X. I don't want to wait for shipping so I'm considering walking into Sprint or Verizon to buy it outright, off contract. I would simply grab one from tmobile, but for some reason they don't sell the phone...???
Can I walk out of the store with the phone, slip my tmo sim into it, and carry on with life? Or will there be some roadblocks (anything to do with activation or other random requirements by the carrier store)?

I do not think the 2015 Moto X pure is available at any carriers...

Is this a serious question?

Want to walk into a store? Walk into bestbuy. Here you go now you can pick whatever carrier you want.
Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk

patt2k had the right answer. I grabbed it at Best Buy for the regular price, unlocked no hassle. Verizon store had it but required I have an account with them. Didn't bother with Sprint store.

I didn't even realize they were in stores. I got mine form amazon. Moto was sold out at the time.
But it from wherever you want. Put which ever sim in it you want. Carry on.

Deal alert!

TMO has the Nexus 6 both 32 and 64 for $100 off.
Would this be a normal Nexus 6 or like the AT&T one that would be locked?
I want to get this for Google Fi.
Sent from my XT1095 using Tapatalk
T-Mobile's Nexus 6 is totally unlocked, would be the same as buying from the Play Store except only T-mobile would have the IMEI (so theoretically you will not be able to get a new Verizon SIM as Verizon will not add non-Verizon IMEIs to their database).
So it would work on Fi?
I guess I should just wait as I would like to have one that I could use on any carrier

Yes it will work on Fi. There are only 2 versions of the Nexus, US and International. Any Nexus sold in the US supports the same bands and will work fully on any US carrier. The only differences you will see are carrier logos on the models bought from AT&T and Verizon.
So if i got it from t-mobile I should be fine.

Except that the ATT version is carrier locked to ATT (unless you pay in full, and get the unlock code)
Well I'm a new owner of a Nexus 6 midnight blue 32 gig courtesy of Best Buy matching T Mobile's price I was really wanting a 64 gig but I've never put over 20 gig on my current moto X 2014. Now to recoup some of my money my 2014 Moto X will be posted on Swappa.

Pretty sure they'll honor it since you're still under the 15 day grace period.

I bought my nexus 6 from amazon in April. I emailed customer service and was able to get them to price match. At first they denied my request stating that Amazon doesn't price match. But if u are persistent they will refund u the difference.
T-Mobile bloatware
I would buy this to use with my StraightTalk SIM.
Do the T-Mobile versions (even full retail price) have the usual carrier drawbacks - T-Mo bloatware, long wait for firmware updates, etc - relative to the non-carrier version? I've used custom ROMS with other phones in the past, but would like to keep this stock if possible.
After having a chat with a CS rep, they said I have to return the phone, to reprocess the order, and re-buy a new phone to get the promotional $100 off..... smells fishy to me
On top of that there's the $50 restocking fee, so I'd only net $50 for what should simply be a $100 price adjustment/account credit. Should I try reaching out to T-Force? Why does life always have to be so hard? Do I have to be an asshole???

I purchased my Nexus 6 64GB from Amazon about 2 weeks ago for $734. I took me a few tries but I finally got through to the correct department for Cell Phone price match and got them to price match T-Mobile at $599. You just need to be persistent.
Unless dealing with tmobo themselves...as my situation.

From what T-Mobile said to me, we need to return the phone and re-ring the transaction to get the $100 promo price. And then we pay $50 restocking fee even though we are keeping our own phones..... If you find out otherwise krozu, lemme know.

Can No Longer Buy Full-Price Phones from VZW and keep Unlimited Data.

The last phone I purchased directly from VZW was a full-price Note 2. To upgrade the phone, I went to VZW website, selected my full-price Note 4 and attempted to check out. However, to complete the checkout, VZW required me to make changes to my plan where continuing the Unlimited Data feature was not an option. Manager at the local VZW outlet confirmed the same; they can't sell me a full-price phone without changing the plan.
Had to purchase my VZW, carrier unlocked phones from Amazon.
well that's bs. good thing is it seems more companies are making universal phones that can be activated anywhere... like the nexus 6, and the new moto x and new nexuses comin out... meaning, I'll never again buy a phone from Verizon itself with their ugly branding. yay!
Sent from my Galaxy Note 4
Wow that is messed up. Verizon is trying anything at this point.
Sent from my SM-N910V using XDA Free mobile app
I wonder if the new phone came with a new Sim? When I upgraded last, the procedure to keep unlimited is to toss new Sim (burn with fire then microwave) and install old Sim for first activation.
Funny, I just ordered my phone on the 13th and it did nothing to my unlimited data. Bought from the Verizon Web site. It was a certified pre owned.I have been out of contract with unlimited data for years.
Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
maybe you just had bad luck in store.. we all know how corporate verizon employees aren't the most truthful people.
just asked my old boss who runs his own retailer... they can sell off contract no problem. it's like when you goto verizon and buy off contract, they still want your number and stuff.. but it's like, i'm just buying a phone full price, you don't need to know anything about me... yet again, another reason why I never buy from corporate verizon and only use retailers.
Sent from my Galaxy Note 4
I bought one 3 days ago and kept unlimited data no problem. I would call CS and complain LOUDLY. A few months back I had a sim card go bad and when I took it in to get replacement, the rep changed my plan to 2 GB. Month and a half later I get an email about overuse of data and when I called in and explained what happened they gave unlimited back to me. She said within 30 days it is much easier to correct, but, they had to put in a service request for mine, which, took about 2-3 business days to reinstate. Good luck!
I can't see a corporate store do this, so must be a franchise store to screw up like that.
The people in the stores have been told to do what ever it takes to cheat you out of the unlimited data, that is first hand knowledge from a store manager in the family. As far as the phones go, you should not have been able to buy the phones without changing your plan, all phones from verizon are full price no more upgrades and require changing your plan, wether you pay cash or on the little deal on a monthly basis.
How about buying an unlocked compatible phone from Amazon or elsewhere? Will they try to force you out of the unlimited data plan to activate?

not if you're buying full price. I got the new moto x.. has nothing to do with your plan. it's just like buying any product on amazon. click buy, bam, done. throw your sim in, and it activates. verizon had absolutely nothing to do with the process and I love it.

Verizon family plan w/ upgrades. Can I do this?

I still get subsidized upgrades from Verizon on my family shared data plan. Obviously I want the 6P, but I am worried it will never be sold through Verizon (or heavily delayed at the very least).
Can I use my upgrade to get an iPhone for $200 and sell it for like $700 or whatever? And then pick up the 6P from the Play Store and activate that instead?
Yes you can, as long as you are OK with extending your contract
Sent from my P01MA using Tapatalk
Yes you can. If you have a costco member card, purchase it there. Tax is cheaper and the phone is normally 20$ cheaper than the retail store. As for the two year contract, if you have any grandfather plan, Verizon still honors the subsidized upgrades. Just remember the upgrade fee is $40 one time fee.
Also, as long as you have an already activated nano-sim, you should be fine with using the 6P by just switching sim cards. Other than that, you might have a problem activating the 6P because the IMEI is not int he Verizon system.

Fantastic news, thanks guys. Do I have to activate anything? Or unlock/deactivate the iPhone? Also I only have a microSIM but I heard you can mod it to be a nanoSIM.
You can cut the sim down, they have templates on amazon if you want one. But you can also just go into Verizon and get a new sim. The new iPhone should be fine to sell.

So.... any recommendations on how I can sell the iPhone? Will I have to sell at a discount?
Sorry for double post.... I've never sold a phone before... will I have to say it's the Verizon version? or CDMA version?
You would have to say Verizon (CDMA) since their phones are unlocked to any carrier. I'm not sure how much the ip6s are but a simple google search in ebay or craigslist will tell you. I would recommending getting a 64gb verison because it looks like the most popular one sold.
Check swappa easiest way to sell a phone
Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk
Swappa is by far the cheapest option for the seller. Just don't be greedy and price it right or you'll be in with the rest of the herd. Ebay will get it sold as well but you'll pay through the rear end with fees. Easily 10% plus the paypal fee. Craigslist is another option but be cautious as that is an easy way to make you a target if you aren't careful.

VZW Activation issues

First off, I am a current VZW customer switching from a Note 4 to the Nexus 6p and so far I'm having some trouble.
So I just left a local Verizon authorized dealer (not VZW corporate store) where the sales rep assured me repeatedly that my new 6P will NOT work on Verizon's network. Saying it has something to do with the specific bandwidth of the VZW network... Idk the networking side of things is completely foreign to me. He even went as far as to refer me to other carriers, saying the Cricket store right next door would activate it for me.
I left dissapointed, but called VZW customer support as I sat in the parking lot. The girl I talked to had absolutely no problem sending me a new nano Sim card for my 6P.. However, with as easy and smoothly as it went, I'm hoping the sim will already be activated to my account when it arrives.
But on the chance that it is not, am I correct in believing that as long as I can get a hold of ANY nano sim phone I can take that into VZW and have them activate the card for me?

You could have cut the one from the Note down and been up and running in minutes.
Yeah.. I considered it.. Honestly as I'm now sitting here with the new phone in my hand and no Sim I still may.

The Nexus 6P works beautifully on Verizon. That guy is as full of $h1+ as a Thanksgiving turkey. Once you get that nano SIM from VZW, call VZW, tell them you want to replace that Note 4 with your own device. Give them your IMEI and SIM card numbers, and you'll be all set. Put the SIM into your 6P and you're rocking and rolling

That verizon rep is either clueless or a liar. I bought a sim cutter off amazon and cut my Verizon Note 4 sim down. Took 30 seconds from start to finish and worked immediately.
Alternatively, I couldn't cut my wife's note 3 sim down to a nano for her new Moto X Pure so we went to a Verizon Authorized reseller and asked them to activate a nano sim for us. The guy was super nice and said he could do it but they had to charge $20. He said the Verizon corporate store would do it for free...I opted to pay the $20 to not deal with actual Verizon employees.
I sort of wish Verizon's network wasn't so good..their client service is so bad.

Nope. The Nexus 6P is in Verizon's database as a Huawei H1511. That's how it'll show up on your account.

I came from Verizon Note 4 as well. I just walked into my local Verizon Corporate Store and he activated a nano sim for me right there. Probably took 10 mins and I walked out with the 6P activated. If the nano doesn't come activated, I'd call verizon or take it to a corporate store instead of an authorized dealer.
Wish I had just gone into the corporate store at this point.. Seems that has been pretty successful for most. Oh well, nano sim will be here tomorrow and I'll be sure to go back in and prove to that rep that he was wrong.. He VERY clearly informed me

Authorized retailers are the worst. These guys are 3rd party companies who just resell Verizon's services. They always want to push you to buy a branded phone instead of bringing your own, and they often charge higher prices for devices than corporate stores. Also a lot of them charge "programming fees" of $15 or $20 on top of traditional activation fees if you're doing a new line. Many also charge for SIM cards, anywhere from $20 to $30 whereas corporate stores will give them to you for free. Authorized retailers are a racket and should only be used if absolutely necessary. Verizon corporate stores generally offer a great customer experience in my dealings with them.

A sim cutter would have saved you a lot of issues. I popped my nano out of my Droid Maxx, put it into the 6p and it was good to go. The only thing "not compatible" on the 6p for verizon is visual voice mail.

Verizon easiest way to proceed?

My girlfriends sister currently has LG G3 with Verizon. She just paid it off and the phone started to go bad. So Newegg had a good deal on 6P 499.99 64GB +free 50$ Newegg GC.
Last week I was able to get the month2month discount back for that line it was really rough, had to tell them if they don't all the lines will be gone to att, which they will sooner or later just waiting for some cell phone deals in bestbuy. Anyways I had the Moto X Pure and what would happen was the discount would fall off because the system would see the phone as unlocked with no image etc.
What's the easiest way to proceed without cutting the current LG G3 sim? I asked the rep to send me a nano sim card. I am just afraid activating a new sim card online on verizon or with rep will trigger the system to remove the discount.
Worst case scenario i'll go to a cell phone store and pay 10$ to cut the micro-sim.
Any tips?
You can go in and get a nano sim and have it activated without them modifying any account.

You mean go with the free sim card sent to any Verizon store and have them activate the sim? I can do the same thing online though. What would be the benefit of doing it in store? the problem is on Share Everything plans those greedy people at Verizon took those discounts away, unless you really try hard to get it back.
