Need some help deciding what to buy - Android Head-Units

Hello guys,
I need some help with these android head units.. I've ordered one on amazon by pumpkin and I've had some ups and downs with it..
a few questions:
Are there more advanced hus with more audio options for the pre amp outs? (time alignment, crossovers, etc..) - The Pumpkin only has basic 3 band EQ..
I've got a "BRRRP" sound after turning off the ignition -> turning off the radio and this is not very pleasent since its pretty loud. (Didn't have any problems with my sph-da120 by pioneer)
Are there some "major" brands which stand for quality?
Some "must have" apps enhancing the experience?
Sorry for asking these basic questions but it's very confusing and hard to get a clue after looking at all the threads in here..
Help would be very appriciated!
Best Regards,
Patrik

"I've got a "BRRRP" sound after turning off the ignition -> turning off the radio and this is not very pleasent since its pretty loud. (Didn't have any problems with my sph-da120 by pioneer)"
That part sounds a bit like the 12v to the antenna is turning off before the radio does, causing the radio to loose it's signal.

thanks for the comment!
gonna check that.
I also remembered that i have swapped the pins for ignition and 12v for my old pioneer hu, maybe this will help too

any help with the other questions?

Noise Issues - Pumpkin HU

Hello,
I got a very annoying problem with my pumpkin head unit. Theres a noise, like when you place a smartphone close to speaker, which I hear all the time coming out of my car speakers.
Sometimes it's quiet and sometimes I hear that noise.
Is there any way to fix that?
My HeadUnit is (Description from Pumpkin Website):
Pumpkin 7 Inch Quad Core Android 4.4 Car Stereo DVD Player for Opel Vauxhall 2 Din support DAB+ AV Output MirrorLink 3G WiFi OBD2 DVR Steering Wheel Control
I run Malaysk Rom, but had this issues even with the standard ROM.
Would be happy if anybody could help me.

It's likely noise from the screen. Try turning the screen off and see if it goes away. It won't be easy to fix. Make sure all your grounds are as good as possible and make sure they are as direct to the battery as you can get. Noise like this is from a bad circuit design. It's the difference between an expensive well-engineered board and some POS from China. Yeah, I got one too, the Lollipop unit (self-rooted w/Viper).
If you only get the noise when the car is running it could be noise from your alternator or plug wires. That's harder to fix. You could use one of the crazy capacitors they make for car audio, but if you aren't running a 1000W, they can be overkill. I would try 1000uF cap across the 12V battery supply to ground, as close to the head unit as you can get it. Make sure the cap is rated at least 15V or so (it will see more than 12 from a car!). It will be electrolytic, so make sure you obey polarity. I'll be doing this myself later today.
May be worth a try running a wire from the negative of the battery post to the radio ground...I would just do it quick and easy in the driveway before trying to route it through the car.
Thank you for your support on that...
Unfortunately that sounds not that easy. I thought this might be a common problem with those head units :-/
I have a sound coming thru the speakers as well kinda sounds like a hard drive reading data when its booting up but goes away once its booted & running.
Might try running a better ground see if that helps.

Android head unit. Some apps no sound. Radio app has sound.

Hi all.
I stumbled upon these forum by googling my issue. So far I haven't found any answers to my problems, so hoping for some help from the great people on here.
I have recently installed a seicane 10.1 android head unit into my jeep wrangler.
It appears to have a few little issues like audio is automatically somewhat louder on start up ...... but my main issue is
Only the radio app has sound.... no other apps have sound.
All speakers are working correctly with the radio app. Canbus setting is correct. But no sound output from the other apps.
If anyone has experienced this and can shed some light on it for me I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks.
If it is a new unit,I guess you car may has factory amp,you need to connect the head unit amp harness to your car amp harness.
If the unit used for several months, then other apps no sound,I guess the main board is broken.
It is better for you to contact the seller for help.
May be a shot in the dark, but you might have hooked the amp wire up to the 'powered antenna' wire by mistake. If you tune to a radio station, that wire will get power and you will hear the sound, but if you are on a different app, that wire will not get power and you will not hear sound.
The amp wire coming from the radio will always have power and will work on all apps, and they are both blue and easy to confuse.
Pklains advice wprked for me.
The remote wire is black on the back of my unit. I accidentally hooked up blue antenna wire so it only powered amp when radio app was on.
I was NOT wiring it up incorrectly.
It was a software fault. I since got a replacement from the manufacturer (took 3 long months) since installing the replacement it worked perfectly.
hi ... same thing happened to me. Check your system. If your speaker lines is going through any amp, bridge, crossover or whatnot then do not supply CAR'S signal wire from ANDROIDS radio antenna signal wire (the android unit's antenna wire has +12v only when radio is on) - test audio by supplying 12v to your CAR'S signal wire. Simple yet it took me some time to figure things out. I hope this helps out someone who has the same problem.
Also it is not advisable to connect ANDROID amplified output to VEHICLES AMP - should be pre-amp from ANDROID to AMP or use LINE OUTPUT CONVERTERS or DIY (search speaker level to line level adapter ... a simple voltage divider worked for me) make sure you know car amps impedance before anything else ( industry standard is 10k )
I have the same problem with my PX6. The unit worked for a few months, but all of a sudden I only get sound from the FM radio.
Any advice?

did you find a solution to this? I sometimes get this, the only way for me to fix it is by doing a hard restart by pressing powerbutton for 15seconds

Do you get this issue all the time or is it random?
for me it's random, i have to force restart the unit to get sound working on stuff that's not radio/beeps.

I get it all the time, but it started with a lot of "static noice" from the speakers. That went away if I rebooted the device. The unit worked again for a few minutes and the problem with the noice was back. One day it just went totally silent except beep and FM radio

I had to desolder the amplifier (TDA7851L) and replace it with a new one. Not easy, but everything works for me now

I don't see my exact problem, which is very similar to everyone here. I get sound from the Radio app - but if I use the Radio app, I lose sound everywhere else. I retain the ability to use the Radio for sound. This also happens upon a reset, as if it starts the radio first or something - but the app doesn't need to be started for that to be a problem. This started upon initial installation.
Fun thing: If I power off the car (battery still connected of course), wait a few minutes, then try stuff, I get sound everywhere. Until I use the Radio app, of course. Naturally it decides to reboot when it feels like it, so this is annoying.
I have an Eunavi HU. The same heppened to me after upgrading the firmware with a file provided by manufacturer. No sound, only on radio. After few messages with the manufacturer here is the solution that worked: Factory settings->DSP settings->ARM Audio Input Selection-> check Analog Input. Hope this solution will help someone.
HelloI have this problem with my ts10 hu
Hi. After changing Canbus setting in my android head unit, I haven't any sound in all app and radio in my HU. Please help me.

Review of PX6 Android 9 head unit -too high expectations? Return or exchange?

I ordered a PX6 4 /64 GB (MTCE_CHS) head unit with 720 p display and Android 9 for my Mercedes-Benz W211. I found a seller at AliExpress with great reviews so I felt safe to order from them.
This will be a short review which I hope can help someone who is looking for info before buying a Android Head unit, but I am also very thankful if someone has ideas how I can solve my problems.
Pros:
- Very sharp display with good viewing angles.
- Reverse cam works great in good lightning conditions.
- Fast startup from standby.
- Useful equalizer which makes it possible to get a great sound experience.
- Custom ROM, root, Tasker and FCC Launcher make it possible to customize the head unit in many ways.
- Very good GPS performance when connected to original powered GPS-antenna in car.
- Apple CarPlay works and looks generally very good, but has problems with sound mixing which makes it useless.
Cons:
- Handsfree sound quality sucks so much it's useless. Sound from the other persons is bad and they can't barely hear me. Tried with external microphone also.
- No auto brightness and max brightness is low in sunny conditions.
- General audio quality, there is constant background noise and interference from wifi, bluetooth and USB devices makes it worse.
- The head unit was supposed to be plug and play but I had to modify my car and use an dremel multi tool to cut the plastic in the car, which makes it difficult to go back to original head unit. This is normal according to seller but no info before buying.
- Android apps does not display well in a car head unit. Even when adjusting dpi it is difficult to find a good setting. Text and objects will be too small or too big, sometimes frustrating and dangerous to control music and navigation apps when driving.
- Android Auto is displayed in low resolution and looks bad, it also has problems with sound mixing which makes it useless.
- FM radio reception is bad, even though I use the original powered antenna in the car.
- General sound mixing problems in different apps.
- I had dust debris inside the display, which is visible with both display off and on.
Problems:
- I have an intermittent problem with a "popping" sound and at the same time the display goes to night mode for a second and reset the clock to 0:00. Tried to disable auto night mode in factory settings but no difference.
- Sometimes when opening a door or turning on the ignition there is a loud high pitch sound from the speakers, very uncomfortable, almost hurts the ears and scares the passengers.
- Sound mixing, when using Android Auto och Apple CarPlay, it will automatically lower music volume when giving navigation directions, but will not increase volume afterwards. So when you manually increase music volume again, next time the voice will be so high it almost destroy your speakers and ears. The navigation voice in Waze Android app gets cut 0,5 - 1,0 seconds to early.
When speaking to the seller they have problems understanding my issues, and just tell me to wait for MCU update (I already have the latest). Seems like they just want to delay so the time when it is possible to open a dispute will end.
What would you recommend me to do? Demand an exchange of my head unit and canbus decoder and hope it will solve the problems? Demand a refund and buy a Sony or Kenwood Android Auto / Apple CarPlay head unit?
Just accept the problems and issues and try to forget that I paid A LOT of money for the head unit and all the accessories?
There are dozens of different manufacturers and hardware types using PX6.
Post MCU type so people can know the manufacturer and type of unit being reviewed.

Sorry, it is a MTCE_CHS, I added the info to the first post.
I think that this highlights a general problem with the chinese android head units: They just aren't "consumer-ready". Don't get me wrong, they provide fantastic bang for your buck, but they all have their problems (many of which can be solved through help from this forum) and they all lack any decent support. Having said that, I also have a PX6 4G/64G unit in my car, and I just don't have any of the problems you mention. It's not without its annoyances, and I have had to work through several problems to get it sorted, but after just a few months I am very happy with what I have ended up with. The sound quality is fantastic to my untrained ears, and it all works fairly smoothly. I got a massive upgrade in functionality in my 21 year old car for not much money.
In your case, there seem to be too many problems that appear to be related to the hardware. I don't think that an MCU update is going to fix the issues that you list, and so If it were me, I would be returned the unit asap, and trying a different manufacturer, either another chinese manufacturer or one of the proven japanese manufacturers.

Wodefoo PX6 sound fuzz in background

Hey all,
I upgraded from a PX5 Xtrons. Had no issues with it.
When volume is muted, there's no sound. When on 1 or higher, there's a background fuzz. Not static but just a general oldschool hifi 'furry' sound. It doesn't get louder if I turn the volume up. I've tried unplugging everything but the main harness. Doesn't matter if the engine is running or not.
I'm using the Xtrons harness because I didn't want to have to run a whole new one to the boot where the factory amp is. It looks like there's a couple of pins different too. Hoping it's not that...
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Honestly most of these units in my experience have some. WiFi, cell phones, radio etc can sometimes be picked up by the amplifier circuit and you'll hear their resonate frequencies through the car stereo (turn any stereo up loud and put a phone near the active input cable... you'll hear it). Honestly the best thing you can do is make sure the radio is grounded to your chassis directly, that way a lot of these spurious signals are filtered properly and their pesky resonates cease to exist!
Oh and it usually quits when you turn it to 0 because it actually completely shuts down the amplifier...
Thanks for the response. I’ll pull the head unit out at some stage and try and ground it. If it fixes it I’ll report back. Thanks again.

yt9213aj unit cuts off the car stock radio

Hi,
i recently recieved this unit (supposedly running 10.1 w. 9-inch screen, 1GB/16GB, but from other threads here i assume that this would not be quite true (Android version....)). Anyhow, after installing it in my car, i noticed that the stock car radio ceased to work and i wonder if it would be possible to get sound working from it again, even if this Android head-unit is connected?
No one has this problem? at all?
Sure, i have the radio of this Android unit working, but i'm just trying to understand why it would cut off the stock radio?

I'm having the same problem did you manage to find a solution to the problem
yes and no. On my unit, there is this L+R "aux in" connectors hanging out of the main harness (that comes out of the Android unit) and the sellers (after 5 roundtrips of mails, videos of me explaining the issue, etc) told me to connect those two to the "aux-out". I believe they meant the aux-out on my car stereo (nothing such exists on the Kenwood unit that the car came with). What i DID try was to connect the audio-out (that also comes out of the Android head unit) to the aux-in and then i actually got sound from my car CD/Radio. Problem with that was that it now came out mixed together with the audio from the Android unit.
To make matters worse, as soon as i exited the Android unit radio app, the sound from my CD stopped playing as well (so muted). Only if i had either my radio on (android) or if i played something from USB (mp3) the sound came through.
The seller then told me to launch the AVIN app as that would be the only way to make it work, which it did not. To top it all off, having it connected like this (even if i dropped the volume on the Android unit to 0) was causing this constant "hum" in my speakers so it was not practical at all.
So no, it was never solved and imho it never will be solved (unless possibly if you have some aux-out connectors available?)
Thanks for reply I was thinking along the same lines myself which is good, as my car has an aux in so I was going to see if I could find aux out and connect it, I will have a good try this week and keep you updated, which vehicle is your unit installed in by the way
Hi Mercedes-w204, i have a Subaru Legacy 2005 with a Kenwood (gx-201-LHF2) radio/CD unit (without aux)
I got in touch with the sellers and now they are telling me that a filter might help sorting out the issue, lets see where it all ends up
In general, these units are replacing stock audio altogether. It's not recommended to keep stock stereos period.
I would tend to agree with you, but the issue i have is that the stock radio is rock solid where this one leaves certain things to desire (it sometimes has static, mutes occationally, etc). Also, i would like to keep the CD available and basically use it for maps/nav, USB audio and BT (prefferably routed through the stock stereo).

Wouldn't it be easier to just use your Android phone then? But I see what you mean and fully agree with you, which is why I heavily mod these units - hardware and software alike.
You can improve the radio quality considerably, nearly to DAB level. The sound can also be improved to very hi-end output levels. Frankly, enough things can be improved in these units at a very low cost (provided you have the equipment and intermediate soldering skills). T give you an example, this is what I know is possible to achieve with these units:
Enhance sound to HIFI quality
Improve radio to close to DAB output quality
Improve wifi speed 10-20x times
Improve microphone by up to 5 times
Enhance the speed of the operating system by 50%
Reduced overheating by up to 200%
Stabilize the Android OS while adding endless tweaking options for UI, sound, and other functions
Wow. Yeah it would be needed imho as those areas (that you describe) could be improved. Anywhere where mods like these are described?

The instructions are available here and on 4PDA forums, to name a few. It would take me an insanely long time to put everything here. I have a daytime job and a family so, unfortunately, no time to do what you asked. I might add some How-To videos to my Youtube channel later on.
