Hello,
I am currently using goldeneye 6.3 with kt kernel TMO variant, on an SGH-i337m.
I tried installing V4A every way possible, and only got it working on 2 occasions (out of hundreds of tries!) for at most 3 songs. (Switching to and from safe mode and compatibility mode, rebooting every few steps; moving the apk into system, installing it there with root; doing these steps with cache/dc wipes; redoing these steps, etc............!!!)
Although few in number, those songs that played with the V4A eq sounded so good that this utility is now a must-have for me.
Can anyone recommend a ROM they know plays nice with V4A, and also is touchwiz based? (I can't help but feel like I don't want to give up any of those samsung features!)
Thanks!

None, i cannot get it working on any TW Rom, i think it may work on a CM rom
Works perfect on GE 6.1 / KT for me. I assume you selected the right driver, followed the V4A instructions post exactly, etc? I use PowerAmp for music and copied the EQ settings from a post I saw on the GE thread. I know it works because turning the V4A Effects On and Off I hear a huge difference. Without V4A, music sounds more muffled. Having it enabled, bass is deep, clarity is crisp, etc. And I go from The Beatles to Wu Tang to Swedish House Mafia to comedy albums...all sound great.
Hello guys.
2 weeks ago my oneplus one got stolen and after that i decided to get a new contract with the p9 lite for free.
In this 2 weeks my phone crashed so many times, spotify crashes non stop, everything feels so slow. In my opo i used most of the time cm with viper4android cuz music is for me one of the most important things on my phone and the other stuff was great too for me. At least i have to say that actually all oft that sucks on my p9. I would give that phone a try with a custom Rom or maybe stock? What would u recommend to me? I cant believe that this is normal with that hardware.
Best regards Woozyclown
That is NOT normal behaviour, my phone never gave me a single problem. Unfortunately, the custom ROM scene is still in an EXTREMELY early stage, I tried them all and would NOT recommend any custom firmware for daily usage as people are still working on those and maybe in some months, but not now. If your bootloader is unlocked, I would recommend flashing your firmware ex novo (possibly a debranded one specific for your device), installing a custom recovery and root your device. From there, you can install all the mods you want (just be careful and do backups before you install any). I am using A.R.I.S.E. sound mods, they work very, very well. If you need any help, just ask!
Sorry, but in my opinion custom ROM for our P9 lite are already usable as daily driver.
I used CyanogenMod 13, Resurrection Remix (6.0.1) and now LineageOS 14.1.
So far, I can say that CyanogenMod 13 is pretty stable, it does not have any bug and I used it as daily driver. Resurrection Remix only has a problem video video recording, but everything else works. LineageOS 14.1 is already stable, the only "big" issue that is has are USB tethering, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth hostpot but I guess they will be fixed soon and SELinux.
If you follow carefully the instructions to install a ROM, I don't see any problems.
I am personally on LineageOS and I managed to install Dolby Atmos, it works very good
Thanks for ur answers. I will take a look on cm and lineageOS. What sound options would give me Dolby atmos? Is it like viper4android? I dont need 5.1 Simulation or something like that, just need it for a eq and to enhance the loudness.

Dolby Atmos boost up sound, I have excellent bass sounds and also volume increase without losing quality. Also it's customizable and you can modify the options, although default settings are already great.
Same here i havent flashed any rom and im still on marshmallow phone runs perfectly fine
Hello,
I can buy Axon7 on Aliexpress for around 330USD. Currently I'm using OPO and it is running just fine. I've got a few questions to you guys:
1. Are custom ROMs stable ( no bugs, battery drains, camera and sound is working like on stock )?
2. How far is Stock ROM from AOSP (recents, QS, settings) ?
3. Would you switch if you had OPO ?
4. Are there any news of update to Android O being planned ?
Thanks for the replies!
If you want front facing speakers, yes. If you like the huge amount of roms available for bacon, stay with that. I was on the opo and if it was not for the speakers on the a7 I would switch back.
There are still enough roms available, just not like for op5. Roms are stable

Most ROMs are somewhat stable, but all of them have a couple of bugs like mic broken until you turn on and off the loudspeaker (you can fix that with macrodroid). And the stock ROM works better than the custom ROMs no doubt. But I found out that (if you care more about MP3 music than FLAC lossless) V4A is better on custom ROMs than stock. and you can get more than 7 hours SOT on custom ROMs if done right (normally people get 5 on the stock ROM)
The stock ROM is totally different than AOSP. The stock launcher has no dock just like Apple stuff but it also comes with an alternative with dock. The icons are crappy though. If you install Lawnchair from XDA you get a launcher better than Pixel and stock icons for almost all of the apps. Recents is just like AOSP but with a Clear all button and a lock to avoid you closing the app by swiping or via the button. pretty handy!
Now, I had something weird happen to me: When I got my Moto G 2 I used the stock ROM for like 3 days and switched to customs. I never even thought about going back to stock for all the poor phone's life (like 1.5 years). now with this one, I try a couple of ROMs for a month or two, get bored and return to stock. Always happens. Many people say the same, that they started liking the stock ROM even though it strays from AOSP a lot. But it has its fair share of good things, like auto power-on some minutes before your alarm goes off, scheduled on and off, a Dolby Atmos QS tile... It's not bad because it doesn't look like AOSP. not at all.
Besides, MiFavor 5.0 was released for the Chinese and it looks very good!
The phone has hardware keys but the Chinese version hasn't, hence the on screen keys on the screenshot.
Update to O: No news yet, though if it comes, expect the first 2 or 3 builds to be riddled with bugs. ZTE's devs barely know how to use a keyboard. Up to B04 Nougat they broke the Play store then fixed it, broke exFAT for SD cards, then fixed it... People made petitions (basically spamming "We want Android O" on a petition thread on the German forums) but nobody said anything close to a confirmation.
Would I switch from a OnePlus One? 2K AMOLED screen, SD820, speakers better than Samsung's $800 phones come with, QC3.0, for 330 dollars? definitely
The screenshots I attached are from the Chinese MiFavor 5.0 because that's what I'm using right now. You can install it via TWRP if you want.
one thing though: If you can get an A2017U (US version) instead of an A2017 (Chinese Aliexpress version) you're gonna thank me. The U version has so much more development than the G or Chinese... Even people say that sound is better on it. It costs 330 dollars on the US too.
This phone is easy to brick, be REALLY careful and read everything twice before doing stuff or you can end up with a DFU brick which is the most hardcore brick of them all.

Wow, that's why I love XDA, thank you for this very helpful reply !
So on official LOS for example microphone during call doesn't work until I toggle loudspeaker ? That's is... Weird . So even if you are running custom ROMs you are coming back to stock because of bugs and features :/
I noticed on videos that launcher and icons sucks. Can I just install nova launcher on stock and use it without any problem ?
About Chinese and American versions. The ROMs doesn't work on all version, the a2017, U and G ? I did some reading and I know there are different bootstacks and stuff but I though the custom ROMs are compatible with all regions.
Is this brick recoverable ? Is there a flashtool that will always rescue me ?
Thanks again !
Yes you can flash nova launcher. It is an app! There is a flashtool for flashing and recovering from soft/hard bricks. The phone just rocks...

It's more complicated than that.
First of all: The modes on this phone are (were):
-EDL (Looks like it's completely off, it's not. You can flash special folder packages with MiFlash when you are in this mode)
-Bootloader mode (Fastboot. On A2017G and U they got rid of it. You can get it back by flashing a zip through TWRP, but if you update the stock ROM officially you'll lose it and will have to flash it again)
-Recovery. You can use axon7toolkit to unlock and install this. One-click tool like the one on Nexus 6 thread.
After you flash the Universal bootloader (for custom ROMs), your TWRP will get overwritten with an older one. Just keep a 3.1.1-0 img file and flash it in this crappy TWRP with Install -> Install image
-FTM. Seems that you get ADB when you are in this mode. Handy when you brick it horribly (no recovery) and can't access EDL. You just issue adb reboot edl and you should get to edl.
And last: DFU mode. Be REALLY careful with EVERYTHING, for example if you flash a system zip and TWRP says that you have no system installed, restore a backup, DON'T reboot! I had a DFU brick once and the two ways to recover from a DFU brick (No EDL, no fastboot, no recovery, very rarely FTM) are to discharge the phone completely and try to get into FTM, or take the phone apart and do the 4th category brick repair manual. I did the latter
But as of now no brick is unrecoverable. With A2017G's and U's you get a pretty overkill warranty, and you can return it claiming that it stopped working all of a sudden for example.
About the launcher: yeah, you can install whatever you like. I use Lawnchair.
And the ROM's work on all 3 phones, but it's the kernels that don't. Kernels work on the G and U on custom ROMs, but there is only one kernel that works for the U on stock, and none for the G. On the G the camera breaks on stock when you use a custom kernel. That's why I recommend you to get a U even if it's a little bit more expensive.
Is there a tool that will always save you from a brick? well there are many, but they will help you like 90% of the time. axon7tool is used to flash stuff to recovery or boot from EDL (you can flash TWRP for ex.), axon7toolkit can do some basic fastboot stuff, and MiFlash is the most useful, cause you can flash a full system directly from EDL and leave your phone in a functional state. So if, say, your digitizer breaks and you are on a custom ROM (and have an A2017G or A2017U, which have warranty) you can simply flash a working system and send it to fix.
If ZTE finds out that the phone has been tampered with (unlocked, opened, etc) they will charge you $80 but they'll fix it. If the phone doesn't even boot and it's a G they'll change it free of charge because of European laws
one more thing: you'll hate the quick settings thingy on stock. Try MiFavor 5.0 if you decide to stay stock, it's a Chinese ROM but with a bunch of work it can get pretty nice. I sent you a couple of screenies there

I would go for it because the newer LTE modems are so much better than any of the SD820 especially how poor both the Axon 7 and OP3 signals are compared to the SD821 and SD835. It is night and day in terms of connectivity. Performance wise it's also worth it.
You don't need to flash Nova launcher, I am with the Stock rom and use Nova as it. Just install it and use it as default launcher.

Hello everyone!
I just switched to an Axon 7 after previously using a HTC One M9. I have a few questions to people here that have more experience with this phone model.
- How is sound quality in LOS/CM based ROMs? Is the dolby DAC being used properly in custom ROMs ?
The reason I bought this phone is the headset sound quality, so far I am not dissapointed at all with the stock ROM quality
-Is there a maintained stock ROM?
I am interested in a clean stock ROM that's maybe debloated and tweaked.
-What about root and android O
I noticed the toolkit has an option to "revert to stock". I want to know what are the correct steps to take when the official MiFlavor android O update is live.
I assume I should revert to stock recovery and boot partition (since now my boot is r/w from rooting). is there anything else I should know ?
Thanks a lot in advance for your time reading this !

HI, good to know you unlocked and rooted your phone quickly.
The reason i did not take the LOS boat was because of the sound issues. In short : never left stock rom because of Dolby.
For some debloated stock ROMS i can mentioned kenet's ( MiFavor 5 though ) and mine (SLIM version) based on latest B06-stockrom (MiFavor 4, debloated, SuperSu...) : https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/rom-slim-version-t3669355
:good:In a couple if days i'm planning to upload my latest AROMA Rom based om B06-SLIM² which can be debloated to zero, and a bunch of stuff you can choose from, but all based on STOCK. So feel free to look into it :cyclops:
Also take a look in Download Center. All the stock roms (for rooted users) are there under Bootstack+Stocksystem. Latest is the B06 version.
I'm trying to maintain all that stuf so all can choose from it
Good Luck !
Thanks so much for your answer!
I assumed the sound quality would be worse on LOS, it was the same situation with HTC and Sense ROMs, you were stuck with Sense if you wanted decent sound quality.
I am very interested in the Aroma ROM, I'll keep an eye out of that, thanks a lot for creating it.
At the moment I am a bit shy to start flashing just 3 days after getting the phone; however I think an Aroma installed ROM is a solid start
Cheers!
I want to be able to take an OTA or SD update if we get official Oreo so stayed stock but the temptation to root and debloat then unroot again is always there.

I read an article saying Oreo will come officially in Q1 2018. That could very well be April 2018; that's why I gave in to rooting.

Maybe.
It gives me a lot of time to work out whether I can go long term on stock ROM.
I don't want hassles with security compatability to use Google Pay and a couple of other apps that check for root.
One reason I won't install ViPER4Android on this phone. As is, it's stock and encrypted. Just as well it has 4Gb RAM because I think it really needs it.
I just went from latest Stock to LOS and honestly I don't hear much difference between them in my music I would say its at least 90% of the quality.
There is a slight distortion on max volume from the speakers. I will see how I like it maybe go back to stock I also bought this phone after an HTC tho mine was the M8 I don't think I will get a non stereo phone again lol.
The front firing speakers are the thing. I have an Oppo Find 7 at home, it has stereo rear speakers in portrait orientation. Good for music but who uses it for that on internal speakers?
The front landscape speakers are perfect for video and handy for VR too. So much more sensible. The Axon 7 is so affordable for so much function now. Quite the bargain!
I have also recently gotten this phone and I love it, compared to my previous phone. Xperia M4 Aqua.
I have tried a lot of custom roms and I found Dark Rom to be the best one overall, great stability, battery life(5-6h SOT compared to 3-5h in stock). However I couldn't keep using the custom rom(s) since a lot of apps and games that I want to run. Do not work under Xposed or Magisk Hide, even if I don't use them. They detect it's Android N and that breaks most of it. So I am using stock rom, there is no problem and I am okay with that until later.
The biggest downside with the stock rom is that the power saving feature is very clunky. It's not optimized for light gaming, it sets the phone on max and drains it very quickly.
Hello everyone, i am new to the scene of the Mi A1, i bought the phone about 1 month ago and have been observing the forums, but i would like to ask some questions the community as i have not yet managed to find clear answers to the forums if someone can help me
1. If i root the phone is there a way to revert back to complete stock and get OTA's again?
2. In custom roms, can i get the stock camera working 100%?
3. Is there any custom rom that you recommend in terms of stability and battery life?
4. Are there any drawbacks to the custom rom scene?
5. Do you recommend the stock rom with a custom kernel or a custom rom altogether?
Thank you in advance for your answers, i hope that this thread might be useful to gather some questions altogether for anyone that might have wondered the same stuff as me
Hello,
1. There is a way to update OTA with magisk, but you will need you use magisk just as systemless, without touching system stuff. Alternative you can have root and just unroot everytime you want to update the ROM or you can manually flash the update... You can try this guide... https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/how-to/root-mi-a1-oreo-8-0-disabling-ota-magisk-t3728654
2. Stock camera works in custom ROMs, someone did a port somewhere in this forums... https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/themes/oreo-mia1-stock-rom-camera-app-custom-t3758543
3 and 4. Most of the custom ROMs are based on the same sources, LineageOS was one of the first "stable" ROMs so most of the ROMs are based on it, inheriting all of its bugs (haven't found a critical bug). I've tested a few ROMs and the mosts I liked in terms of battery life and stability are... LineageOS and Pixel Experience, you will need to test them out for yourself.
5. If you want to experience a more "stable" feeling stick to Xiaomi development, the latest stable version is 8.0 (with rumors of 8.1 coming soon). If you want latest Android updates and features go for a 8.1 custom ROM.
In my experience you will need to try all this things on your own, until you find a place where you feel comfortable with your phone. Just read guides on how to recover your phone from a bootloop and you are good to go!
I will answer only question number 4 because the guy above me said everything, by the way I prefer RR.
The drawbacks I found on custom roms are 2 for me...
1) Poor signal reception compared to stock
2) Sound quality is much better in stock compared to custom... (my opinion)
I am itching to root the device but to be honest the only thing i want is android 8.1 and a better battery, other than that i am pretty much satisfied with what i have. (and this is coming from someone that changed rom every other week on previous phones) Thank you for your replies, they were informative and greatly appreciated! I just hope Xiaomi updates the phone soon because it feels kinda outdated for an android one device
