Finger Security/App Lock App - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there an app for the Nexus 6 that works like Finger Scanner? To my knowledge, Finger Security one only works on Galaxy series phones that have fingerprint scanners: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rickclephas.fingersecurity&hl=en.
I also tried App Lock but it doesn't appear compatible with the Nexus 6P scanner. It doesn't seem to detect it. Or at least it says that the manufacturer doesn't allow other apps to access it.
It'd be great to have. Right now, the Marshmallow implementation is very limited. Only a few apps (like Last Pass, for example) make use of it so this can add a new layer of protection. For example, on my Note5, I used it to lock the settings app so that only I could modify them.
** EDIT: I just saw a couple of related threads a few pages back. Hope there are new developments **

If you have xposed there is a module called Maxlock. It works very well

Where do you enable the fingerscanner lock? I couldn't find it :/
Tapatalk - Nexus 6P

Just pick a lock type like pattern and you'll notice on the bottom of the pattern screen a fingerprint icon. Just use your fingerprint. The same thing happens when you lock an app. Choose pattern and then choose Facebook as an app to lock. Run Facebook and you'll see the fingerprint icon on the bottom of the pattern screen.

Me neither. Usually when you put your finger when you set the imprint, it will show green line circling the finger icon, but with me nothing happened even though using different finger. And this is the first time setting up.
What i found in internet people that get march update getting this kind of problem.

Okay so you can't even register your fingerprint, right?
Did you already try to factory reset your device?

Yes, i really cant. I have done factory reset. Still nothing happened. I tried using all of my finger and my mom's finger. Still no luck.
Is this because of the software or hardware?
Thanks

Well I can't say for sure but it sounds like a hardware problem to me since you already did a factory reset.
I would suggest you to go back to the store and ask them to take a look. Maybe they can fix it or replace the phone

Thank you for your response. I cannot find the solution besides send it back to the shop. I bought it from other country. So i might just ask refund for the convenience. Thought could be family of 6P lol*

after playing x-plane, my g-sensor is all messed up, and theres no way i can find to re-calibrate it, none of the bubble level apps work
I was playing Drive with Zombies and it pulled hard right. Restarting the app several times and the bubble level had no effect.
Finally I tried laying it flat on the table and starting the game. Problem solved.
I'm resurrecting this thread, temple run is tilted to the right and its annoying, my nexus is stock but this no g sensor calibration is bugging me.

Well, thanks for the idea, but that will not work - I checked (I have similar problem on my Nexus 7) - The GPS Status APPs does not recalibrate the G-Sensor system, it only "recalibrates" how it interprets the g-sensor output for its own purposes, so the recalibration does not affect any other applicatons
You can check that deleting stored data for GPS Status app wil also resets the way it represent the G-Sensor data...
maybe there is some other way how to fix the G-sensor?

Well, good for you... I have read some reports that the sensor come to "senses" in special circumstatnces like keeping the tablet on flat surface when running faulty apps and so on, but none of them worked for me.. it any app i able to calibrate the sensor for itself, then it is fine for it, but other apps that can not do the calibration are not affected at all

Ok, I will try to look for other solution..., thank anyway..
EDIT: I think have just found solution: when I calibrated the sensor using App "Sensor tester" (yes, there are several apps of that name, but only one is working on my N7 and has calibration available), then ALL sensor testing apps (including GPS status) sees the G-sensor corectly calibrated, and it works even in the game that caused all my troubles. And also, it does not matter whether or not is that sensor app running - I stopped it and deleted its data and it is still working fine!

In the APP menu select "other avaliable sensor", then select "MPL Accelerometer type: ACCELEROMTER " (it is actually a bit longer sentence). Then again, open the APP menu and there will be buton labeled "Calibrate" which will take you through the rest of the process...

oh boy, it seem that the problem is baack again:
I restarted my Nexus 7 (I was experimenting with USB host, but that does not belong here), and now the G-sensor it is back in its previous (misscalibrated) state, and this time, the "Sensor tester" app is not helping I even tryed several other apps, but nothing is helping this time, and I can not find what is different this time (restart)... :crying:
EDIT: hmm... today, I tried again, and now it is working (???). I do not know why it did not worked last time... If every application that uses g-sensor would also contain calibration settings for its own use, world would be so much nicer place...

Can't touch bottom of screen

Well, I'm running the latest CM10.1 Nightly, and no other mods. For some reason, in some apps I can't touch things at the bottom of the screen. For instance, in Snapseed, I can't apply an edit, because it doesn't let me touch it. Also, in the messages app it takes forever to get the keyboard to come up. Does anyone else have this problem? Is it a CM10 thing? TIA!
So, I flashed the Google Official ROM, and still the problem persists. Going to fully unroot and see if it fixes itself.

Could I please get some opinions? This is getting very annoying. It only seems to happen in apps, because I can access the app drawer and docked apps fine. I flashed the stock ROM, and un-rooted but the problem is still here. Any help?
Go into developer options. There should be an option for Pointer Location. Turn that on, and scribble all over the area you're having touch problems with. See if it is even registering your touches.

It would seem to be a software issue, where the launcher believes you are touching the nav bar so ignores input, that'd be my guess.
Try a different launcher maybe?
Another weird discovery. It seems that if I swipe over the dead-zone fast enough, it registers. That leads me to believe that it's a software problem, but after flashing stock ROM, un-rooting, and relocking I don't see how it could be. This is weird.

The app is not closing you just sent it to work in background . Just hold the home button and you'll see the app in recents view. And change the interval of screen timeout for at least 1 min.
About battery drain change the governor of the kernel.
Install from playstore Nofrills cpu to change the governor as conservative .
You'll not notice any lag in games or apps .

Nova Launcher is great for this. Also Microsoft's Arrow Launcher (but that has a tendency to drain battery and also it is hard to find an empty spot on screen to double-tap to sleep).

If you use fingerprint lock (or maybe any secure lock, I'm not sure) on Marshmallow, apps that actually lock the screen will cause the OS to request a pin or password when you turn the screen back on.
The app that Golubev linked avoids that by implementing a work around, or kludge, depending on your point of view. Instead of actually locking the phone, it simply displays a black screen in immersive mode. It looks like the screen has shut off, but it doesn't really shut off until the screen times out about 10 seconds later.

Turns out there's a way to do this built into the phone. And you can do it from any screen in any app, not just the home screen.
Go to Settings / Accessiblity / Dexterity and Interaction / Assistant menu
Tap on Edit. You'll see a bunch of options for things you can do on the screen. Icons you drag below the gray line won't be visible, items you drag above the line will be. Note that one of the options is "Lock screen." Make sure that's above the line.
The drawback is that you get a new blue circle on every screen, like so. (The circle can be moved anywhere on the screen, so it doesn't cover up important info.)
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
The benefit is that you can tap on that circle and execute any of the options you selected when you set it up. Including shutting the screen off without touching the power button, and without interfering with fingerprint lock.

Hello, does anyone have face unlock working on Android Pie? I've added a trusted face, improved its recognition several times but system still offers only fingerprint or password unlock on the lock screen. Ty for the answers.

Nope, I've got just some IMAP accounts in Gmail app. Nothing special. I've removed trusted face, rebooted the system and added again, improved face
matching several times again, still no luck tho. I've also checked if Smart Lock is enabled in Trust agents. I'm on latest January 2019 update.
EDIT: I've just had an idea - what about VPN? I use L2TP/IPSEC to connect to work, maybe this can be security sensitive?
Having the same problem. it works on custom roms but not stock. I also lost the check for update button in settings.
So removing VPNs had no impact at all. I'm also on stock rom.

I'm on stock ROM with the December update, a few Magisk modules, EX Kernel 2.09, and that's it. It's working great with Android 9. If I swipe up before it recognizes my face them it won't unlock that is a normal built in feature.
You have the option available and selected for Face Unlock right? Obviously I don't because my work email dpesnt even let me set up Smart Unlock for face.

i hope you guys know that it doesnt automatically unlock it, itll scan for your face and then be unlocked but you still have to swype or something
Correct. At the bottom there'll be a lock symbol and it's show unlocked was the face is recognized right?

This is mine when I hit the power button. If I don't let it see my fave it changes to the fingerprint.

There's no silhoutte/face icon on mine when I hit the power button and the phone is locked. It immediately shows fingerpring icon :-/
EDIT: It's not a big deal anyway, I'm just wondering why my system acts this way.

I used to have this problem back on the Nov. security patch, it was so frustrating. One little difference was that mine would work one time after setting it up, then completely disappear. No amount of recognition improvements made it come back. I gave up at that point and some time in December I reflashed the factory image for other reasons and randomly tried it again and it started working. Now that it is working, I use AutoInput by joaomgcd which basically bypasses the lock screen after your face is recognized eliminating the swipe that is normally required and makes it exponentially faster than stock. If you feel up to it and have a Google edition Pixel 2 XL, try unlocking the bootloader and reflashing the factory image. Keep me updated if you find another solution or mine works for you as I'm very curious what is causing this.

Which font are you using? It looks pretty slick
Is there a way to unlock the phone with faceunlock all the way? not just to swipe to unlock. Like in oneplus devices, you look at the phone and the phone unlocks itself not needing to swipe to unlock.
I'm rooted, so any suggestions?
L.E. - I've managed to do this with AutoInput, is on playtore. Working great!
