Hy,
I have two i9505, I read a lot and installed CWM using Heimdall, I flashed SuperSU to gain root, and made a backup. It labeled the backup with an outdated 1970 name...
I took the SD card out to copy the SD backup, but could find it even when searching for hidden folder.
I put back the SD card in my device, and booted to CWM, the backup was available for a restore process. So before trying any flash I tried out a restore process, but ended up with a stuck in boot. Boot to CWM and bootloader being still available, I managed to flash a workable ROM, but I can't restore to my initial ROM.
Now, I'd like to be able to restore my device to it's initial ROM.
I believe that somehow, the backup I made is corrupted.
As I have another identical i9505 I haven't tempered with yet, I guess I could install CWM (or other custom recovery) to make a backup of the ROM, extract the backup of the ROM from the SD and use it to 'clone' my second device ROM to this one.
But I don't wan't to make any mistake here, so I'd apreciate some help, first to understand where CWM put the backup .tar.
Another solution is to get some stock ROM I can flash. As anyway I don't have any warranty on the device I don't care to restore to exact initial state, I just want to be able to get back to some stock ROM.
sammobile.com/firmwares is the place to go if you want a stock ROM. Download whichever ROM you want, then use Heimdall to flash it, and you should then be returned to stock. For best results, the ROM you download should have no carrier branding, but any of them should work.
I though I would have to do something like that from reading the unroot guide. Also, as I use Heimdall to flash (I have a linuxBox), I will use this guide in french as a guideline.
I noticed that the command line they recommend don't flash sbl1. I don't know if it is required.
Thank you anyway for confirming that.

Hi I have read posts about backup using Nandroid on 32a for system and data. so how about if i want to backup the original recovery img before flashing it to cyanogen's or RA's?
Thanks in adv.
Bump
anyone?
thx in adv
if im understanding correctly all you want is the original recovery, you can download it as the .img file then just save it to your computer and install it like ra/cyan if you ever want to go back to it
you wouldn't necessarily need to make a backup of it just like you don't need a backup of the original android software you can download the ota releases and install them like a rom
the reason it has the back up is to keep your last working rom in case you install one with problems
I hope that helped I tried to answer the question a few different ways for you
One-Click-Root method.
The application, "Recovery Flasher" can do exactly what you desire. Although, if you're currently operating on the 1.6 firmware; you'll need to "back track" to 1.5 and go about the rooting process normally.
So I have been trollin through a bunch of threads and searching before I ask. I am rooted running Stupidfast v1.23 and jt super clean rom on DI01. I was reading through flashing back to stock package via oden, but i noticed you need a stock nandroid recovery. I currently have CW. Do I need to get the stock nandroid or just flash the package?
If this has been asked a million times, I am sorry. Please direct me where to go.
Anyone?? There has to be an answer out there somewhere...
I believe if you go to the development forum and check the stickies there a post with the Odin to stock info that has the stock nandroid in it. I think that's where it is - I go to so many forums I can never remember where I saw what. I'm on my phone right now but I will check later to make sure.

You don't need a nandroid backup if you just want to go back to stock.

Or, flash adrynalyne's DI01 Odin package to get you back to 2.1-update1.

Stock nandroid is in the dev forum. Probably a few pages in though.
I'm retarded. I meant to say do i need a stock recovery (not stock nandroid) or does the package provide all of it.
A Nandroid backup is just a backup image taken through CW Recovery. You can't have one without the other (at least, not on this phone -- some other devices have different custom recovery tools you can choose to use)
But that doesn't matter anyways, because Odin flashes work regardless of what you have or don't have on your phone. It's like restoring Windows from a recovery disk -- it wipes and replaces everything. That'd be why it's named after a god. Doesn't matter if you're rooted, doesn't matter if you have CWR installed, it'll wipe the slate clean and start you off fresh.
P.S. I'm not sure "trollin" means what you think it means. If you'd gone trolling in a bunch of threads, it's highly unlikely anyone would help you.
Trolls smell bad, live under bridges, and cause hazard to passers thorough. I knew what you meant.
You wanted a stock nandroid recovery. That brings your phone back to before you messed it up. Nandroid is a backup program that is run via Clock Work Recovery (which can be run from recovery mode - to run, flash a special clockwork recovery in odin, install rom manager app, run that, click the install button which in turn downloads and copies an update.zip file to the root of your sd card, then from recovery mode *vol +&- while powering up* you ' install' update.zip which essentially runs it)
You run nandroid from therein... or from the Rom Manager front end.
Actually you would run it, except you cannot.
# Nandroid is a BACKUP program. You need to have made your own image before hand for it to be helpful! #
However, thanks to Adrynalyne, you have another option for restoring your phone to stock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=867648
A caveat. It is a large file, and somewhat of a strain to host. You only need to use it if your phone is totally borked and you do not know what else to do. Otherwise, you can often repair your woes by opening up CWR and using the clear data commands (which do not touch the sd card) & the install from sd card option, which in turn lets you find a rom you previously installed on your sd card and rerun it. Unless of course you installed voodoo, in which case you need a whole other thread before proceeding....
SIDE NOTE: Here its the classic piecewise restore I used back in the day, which includes stock kernel, stock system rom, and Odin:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782204
Unfortunately the only di01 (first vzw updated modem) posted publicly is the one in the first link. If you need to replace your modem/radio/baseband, then you need to find dj05 separately, or simply have used adrynalyne's restore (linked up top) in the first place.
However, when you do get your phone back to happy - my tired finger asks you to do just one thing:
Run the "Backup Current ROM" option the moment you install Rom Manager - or don't install it!
Swyped w/ XDA App. When in doubt, mumble. Nandroid: Don't use Rom Manager without it.
I tried to update my recovery and don't know what happen. but i can no longer get to if, from maglar. How can restore it. I can't do i restore due to can't get into it to do it. and all the clockworks are now in zip form so i can't restore it that way. is there a flash i can do with a usb to get it back or am i screwed......
i can only hope u saved the cwm you first flashed thru magldr. just start over and use that one. yes...im saying reflash the original cwm you used to begin with. very simple task
I don't think i did i know i saved a backup for the rom thru cwr. if it also saves that. I am lost as i don't know how to flash it if i don't have cwr at all. can I start all over with a fresh install. and can i install it thru daf or thru a usb flasher to restore. i can start over everything is saved on my sd card that i need the rest i don't care about.....
solved.........................................
I have been having a look around and I believe the 5360 and the 5360t are basically the same but I'm having problem creating a nandriod backup as instructed for the generic 5360 model.
Nandriod backup could not find the boot and recovery partitions, so I applied the 5360 patch but it still only will find the boot partition.
How would I go about creating a backup?
I plan to cross flash my device to a 5360 but there are reports of rotation issuies, believe the t model has a different accelerometer and driver and i have found a patch update to fix this and it is my goal to put on a cfw and apply this patch.
i also tried to install a custom recovery and it failes saying it is not for my device so i could not back up that way.
.
The CWM you need is
http://d-h.st/u2m
Flash in stock recovery each time you want to enter cwm
You can just flash 5360 firmware via odin - see my firmware thread - link in signature - the T variant firmware is also there if you need to revert
Thanks that is the first cwm that I'm able to boot to be able to do any thing.
I managed to do a backup in the cwm but it still does not backup the boot or recovery partitions but,
I found the original telecom nz odin files and I believe I will allways be able to install them to recover as long as I don't furbar the bootloader?
I'm looking for custom rom with the ability to store apps on the sd card there are so many and I don't know where to start.

Click to collapse
No custom rom will give you that ability - its the apps manifest that decides where the app gets installed - a user can request a certain location but if the manifest says install on internal that's where it will install
All apps that contain widgets will break if moved to sd card although you can link widgets to sdcard as they will function as if they are on internal
You need a kernel that supports ext sd card partitions
A 2nd ext sd card partition (you can create that in cwm but it will format your sd card)
Then you can use apps like link2sd to link apps to sd card
None of my firmware contain the bootloader or pit file - these should never be flashed without good reason and are not needed just to flash stock rom or change firmware version - since the galaxy y uses the same bootloader for all available android versions available (including unofficial cm11) then there is never a reason to change it & risk bricking the phone
Hi. I'm using the 18/Redmi2Prime and I was thinking of reverting back to MIUI and I'm on CM13. I'm kind of confused with all the threads here because it's been a while since I was active here in the forums. Can't I just flash the MIUI ROM over CM13 using TWRP 2.8.7 with a clean install?
I wanted a rooted lollipop miui hence I am reluctant of choosing this. And I donno which ROM to choose either. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Grab a copy of the stock recovery from here, and follow the instructions to install it onto your device. Basically, download the file, extract the .img file from it, and install the .img file using TWRP. Then boot to recovery.
Then, download a copy of the official MIUI ROM (beta, release or otherwise), from here, rename it as update.zip, copy paste it to your SD card (internal/external), and from the stock recovery, wipe all existing data (cache and user data - SD card can stay). Install the update.zip from the recovery from the options shown.
Done.
Additional notes -
1. If you are plan to go back to a custom ROM, then install a pre-lollipop based MIUI ROM, or backup your EFS, Modem, Boot partitions prior to wiping the existing recovery - this will save you a lot of trouble, and perhaps opening another thread.
2. It is preferable to download the MIUI ROM and rename it as update.zip before you restore to stock recovery, should anything go wrong down the lane. (That is, without a ROM installed, and the computer just not willing to recognize your device, you might end up in a small soup - you cannot access the files on the phone using the stock recovery easily.)
3. If anything goes wrong, check for instructions on how to install the MIUI ROM using fastboot.
Hey thanks for the quick reply. Will do the mentioned and will get back to you if need be. Thanks again!
But wait. It isn't prerooted right?
