Reception Stinks After New Build - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just as the title says. Flashed the newest MMB29M build plus the new radio. I'm now struggling hard with singal... must notably in side buildings. I work in retail and now cant get texts unless I'm at the front of the store. That never happened before. Went out to dinner last night and got like 15 texts just as I walked out the front door.
I have At&t. I'm on newest Chroma with Franco.
Dunno if you guys have any tips or recommendations but any advice is appreciated

Flash old radio
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk

I would try to toggle from LTE to 3G then back to LTE in settings (http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/6-0-1-killed-lte-heres-how-fixed-t3269654). Go to Settings->Under "Wireless & Networks" click "More"->Cellular Networks->Preferred Network Type. Switch from LTE to 3G, wait for the data to reconnect, then switch it back to LTE.
It helped my friend that was having similar issues with a Nexus 5 and it solved my issue of having NO LTE at all after the update.
Worth a shot at least.

Not sure if this is related or not but ever since I flashed the new radio I can't get signal when my charger is plugged in. Webpages won't load ect. But as soon as I unplug the charger...BAM they instantly load!

I just went back to 2.15 radio from b08l and my lte speeds went from 4Mbit to 35

No Signal Issues

New phone, everything was good now no cell signal at all. I was rooted w/ CM and cell signal went completely away almost like the SIM card is bad. SIM is 2 days old and was cut at the TMO store. I went back to stock JB Occam firmware and that did not help. The kicker, Sim works in my GNex w/ adapter so could be contacts in the G$? Anyone else have similar issue.
On my HTC rezound I get low signal and my 3g cuts out a lot toggling airplane mode does nothing and I'm using cm9 also cm9 messed up my Bluetooth. I'm trying to fix these issues but I've had no luck.

I was hoping the tower nearby went down and that it would function when I got to work. Still doesn't work on the N4, works on the Gnex. Looks like it's going back to the Google Ship.

[Q] .48 radio breaks H+ in 4.2.2?

I'm not sure if this is covered anywhere. It's not a huge deal, but it is a little slower. My phone never goes into H+ with .48 radios on 4.2.2. All else is fine, but is this a common thing?
Also, I can still see the LTE option, isn't that supposed to be gone?
I'm on T-Mobile, if that matters.

I thought it wasn't only me! It happened to me today. The data was so slow!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Ah, okay. As far as H+ being dropped, hopefully I'm not the only one. Maybe there's some APN settings I can put in to hopefully change that as signal drops seem far less often so far.
Edit-
Freaking 5 minute limit. Sucks that I was inactive for so long with this account -.-
Glad I'm not the only one!
I'm getting about half the speed with H as I got with H+. I'll leave it like this for another day or so probably to see signal in other areas(Mostly work, where signal dropped every few minutes before), but if I decide to switch back to .33 radios, will there be any issues?
The 4.2.2 update didn't exactly break H+ for me, but I am definitely experiencing data "stalls" I guess you could say. Randomly when browsing the web, or doing anything using data it'll just stall... Sometimes for up to 30 seconds. I did experience the same with 4.2.1 but it now seems more noticeable (could be placebo). I have no problem with signal and get great data speeds when it is working right. I always have full bars while at home since I live about 200 yards from a T-Mobile tower. Kind of annoying tho.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I noticed the data stalls twice so far, Once during a speed test and another while looking around in the playstore. It showed was connected but the arrows disappeared and nothing was going on.
Is this just stock ROM's or something?
I'm on a custom 4.2.2 ROM (Xylon and was on CM10.1) and .48 radio, H+ is working for me.
Your APN settings are correct?
A stock rooted 4.2.2. Figured I'd give it a try before I flash ParanoidAndroid. I was on Xylon 4.2.1 before I went to 4.2.2, but I figured I'd give stock a try. And as far as I can tell, yes. APN settings are right.
I tried flashing back to .33 radios, no luck. Maybe I'm missing something in the APN, or it's ROM specific.

Signal problems with Verizon LTE

My brother and I both got S4s almost 2 weeks ago. He upgraded from an S3. Me from a Rezound. He also has a work phone that is a Verizon Note 2.
We were out at our parents' house over the weekend. Our dad has a RAZR Maxx and a 4G Verizon MiFi for his house. All 5 of these phones/devices are on Verizon.
Both of Dad's devices and my brother's Note 2 were maintaining a steady 4G LTE connection. The Note 2 only showed about 2 bars, but it held it steady and never dropped back to 3G at any time while we were there.
But, both my and my brother's S4s would not hold 4G. We played around with network settings. Changed them from CDMA/LTE to Global, and then back. They would both occasionally switch to 4G for a minute or so, then always switch back to 3G.
I called Verizon tech support and they walked us through things including turning off the phones, pulling the SIMs and letting him push a new PRL to us. Nothing helped, so he told us to go get new SIMs. I did that yesterday and went back out to my dad's and it's still the same. My dad's phone and his MiFi maintain a steady 4G LTE signal and my S4 mostly just stays on 3G.
I also noticed that I went to the movies yesterday and when I was in the theater lobby, which is right in the middle of town, where there is strong 4G signal, my phone had dropped back to 3G there, too.
I'm still within my 14 day return period and I am seriously thinking of returning the S4 and getting a Note 2.
Does anybody have any better suggestions?
I found a thread on the AC forums where a guy reported the same issue I'm having. He took the SIM out of his Rezound, cut it down, plugged it in, and he said that fixed his 4G reception problem.
I'm going to VZW after work and trying a 3rd SIM. This time, one of the old style, that doesn't support NFC.
I went to Verizon after work yesterday and got a new non-NFC SIM. Then went back to my dad's house. The SIM does not appear to make any difference. My phone still wanted to switch to 3G and stay there.
But, I did figure out one encouraging thing. I used Battery Monitor Widget to get into the Testing screen. There, I was able to change the phone from "CDMA/LTE (Auto PRL)" to "LTE Only".
After doing that, the phone went into 4G mode and stayed there, and actually worked fine. I turned on my hotspot and connected to it with my tablet and surfed for a while, with no issues.
This tells me that the phone's LTE reception is pretty much just as good as the Note 2 and other devices I mentioned before. It's just a software issue that is switching it to 3G mode when it doesn't need to.

Stuck in 1x mode?

Hello everyone.
I just got my phone back from Samsung after it wouldn't power on, then had trouble getting it to stay connected long enough to activate. So, I brought it in to town, hooked in to wifi, and had no issues. Got the phone activated, waited for a while, updated the PRL and Profile, and waited around to see if it would start working for me. Unfortunately, it was still not working very well. Put on the 1x/3g mod to see if it was actually getting 3g. Found that it was not... Finally, I contacted sprint to see if they could help on tech support. He said he would contact the network people...
I was like, hmm... at different location now, checked at the sprint store, updated one of their phones PRLs, and it seemed to start running slowly too... so I downgraded my PRL to see if that would help, it did not. Finally, I put on the 00001 PRL really quickly to see if I could get 3g... seems it didn't leave sprint or the 1x.
So, put it back to the original... was wondering if anyone has some advice?
Thanks much.
UPDATE: So, the radio has been flickering on and off for data reception, went up to Green Bay today and it went into 4g, then 3g, then nothing for a while, then back again...
Right now it is on 4g again.
Is there any way to check if the radios may have something not working? I would say maybe it is just network upgrades, (really, really hoping this is the case), but then I would think that Sprint would have said something when I contacted them about there being upgrades....
Thanks.
Take it to a store and ask them to test the radios. They could be faulty.
Mines been acting the exact same way...altho mine has not had problems before needing to be sent to Samsung.
2 weeks ago it just started not going into 4g as much as it used to...and RANDOMLY totally dropping any data connection 10x a day. Literally no 3g/4g for 2+ minutes at a time..no amount of airplaine mode/restarts fixes it......its like im back to the SgS2 days.. ****im sick of Sprint/samsung

It's sprints fault, not samsung. I have the same data drop problems, especially around NYC/NJ. I've had the same issue on my previous S3. My GF has no such issues on her S4 or her previous S3, but she has AT&T. Chances are Sprint is doing something with the network in your area currently.
Try this
1 - update profile
2 - update prl
3 - open the dialer and enter ##72786#
Your phone will reboot and go thru the activation process
If that does not help, call sprint and find out if there are any network vision enhancements in progress for your area. Unfortunately when Sprint does their updates it gets REALLY BAD until they are done

Verizon Wireless poor / trash LTE performance. What am I missing?(old s4 destroys it)

All,
This phone is perfect...... until depending on LTE...
I'm about to send my Nexus 6p back for a refund. I go to a few sports bars and whatever else around a decent sized metro area with excellent Verizon Wireless coverage. I have unlimited data on Verizon so I don't care about constantly switching over to whatever wireless is available.
Prior to the Nexus 6p I had/have a Samsung Galaxy s4 and it seems to be a coverage king (for a small phone).
Tonight was my breaking point. I did a fresh wipe/install of 6.0.1 build MMB29M based on this thread's data https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=197102 . I then ventured out on the town to see how things would react. The phone absolutely does a better job switching back and forth between wireless and LTE without needing to toggle airplane mode like I had to on MMB29Q .
However, the ultimate test was being in my favorite pub and trying to stream watchespn. This phone just utterly chokes when attempting to do this, hell even browsing the internet is painfully slow at times. I tried 2 additional places where my OLD Samsung Galaxy s4 would just roll through content like nothing, the nexus 6p continued to choke/stutter/stammer blah blah, just horrible.
The ultimate point where I am about 99% sure I'm returning this phone was when I picked up my partner's old iphone 5, fired up watchespn and it began streaming content instantly in fantastic fashion on the same Verizon network.
So to sum it up an iphone 5, or samsung galaxy s4 = perfection on Verizon LTE.... with the Nexus 6p chokes and has horrible signal apparently.
What exactly am I missing?
You're not exactly alone. I switched from AT&T to Verizon last week....same phone, same rom, but different carrier. Even though Verizon has much better coverage where I live (Maui, Hawaii) I get crap service on the my 6P. My wife has far better service and signal strength in her Droid Turbo. Heck, half the time my phone won't even ring... Just pops up and says "missed call".....it's really annoying.
I'm in SoCal and I'm getting the best LTE I've ever gotten. Other day I got 101MB DL from speed test. I'm pretty happy. I'm on the 2.15 Radio BTW.
I remember when I had my S4 and it was fast on Verizon and I do notice that the 6p is slower. Also I wish that we could just stay on band 4 only because sometime I get kicked to band 13 if I download giant files.

I really want to understand this as well. I finally pushed down the 2.15 radio via ADB in fastboot.
So now I'm on 6.0.1 build MMB29M with the 2.15 radio.
I will not be able to test the signal issues until I go back to my favorite pub in town tomorrow night.
I agree with your point about band 4, WHY does this phone lock onto XLTE band 4, full strength and then randomly decide to go over to some lesser band while sitting on my desk? Literally don't even move the phone and it bounces around bands like a jack russel fn terrier .
**Edit, phone has stuck on Band 4 for quite some time now sitting on my desk. Not sure what to attribute it to. (2.15 radio? MMB29M build?)
True test will come tomorrow evening. It'll be make or break, time to figure out if this thing goes back.
Are you guys saying the 2.15 radio is better than the 2.47 radio? I've had pretty good performance with the 2.47 on Verizon, but I'm curious if the 2.15 is better.
Where does it show the radio version?

op, thx for linking the bug thread. to add...
cut and paste from the many other lte threads:
this was a big introduced way back when the 6.0.1 update was released at the beginning of december and had yet to be fixed. the apn solution worked only sometimes after a reboot... for me anyway. not sure how the apn change will affect those on different carriers since folks all over the world have reported this.
see bug thread here:
https://code.google.com/p/android/is...tail?id=197102
if the op in that thread is only somewhat your issue, take a look at post #127 also.
star that thread, leave useful comments, AND create a bug report to help. after doing those three things call to let google know as this has been an issue since the beginning of december.
temporary fixes tried:
1. reseting network connections in backup/reset
2. the \*#\*#4636#\*#\* (star, pound, star pound, 4636, pound, star, pound, star), test info, blah blah, set to zero
3. including admin in the apn
4. using another apn
5. toggling data, airplane mode, or rebooting.
6. rma'ing
7. trying different radios
8. starting from scratch with factory image
9. uninstalling goole connectivity services updates "trick"
10. making sure to turn off WiFi before rebooting.
again STAR the issue in the top upper left corner of the link provided, leave a useful comment, and make a bug report. ALL the of these help.
probably missed a few others that i've tried.
the point is that all of the ten things mentioned about are NOT fixes if it continues to happen.
DO THIS: go to reddit and search the subreddit for "lte" (without the quotes of course). a lot of them, right? not sure there would be that many posts if there was a sure shot solution that was not recurring.
you should be able to see some of the reddit 6p lte posts here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus6P/sea...restrict_sr=on
what's strange is that not a single tech blog has reported/linked the bug thread. i dunno. sigh. at the bug thread link i posted, there are 500 unique users that have identified this as a bug. huge number for that site. exactly three months that this problem has persisted.
end of cut and paste.
has anyone tried the security update today to see if it resolves the bug?

Bootloader screen is the easiest way to see it. You will see boot version and radio version.

just a heads-up.... no, the march update does not fix the lte bug.
funny thing is (maybe not so funny) is that there's a chance that doesn't get fixed until the android N developer preview is released in two more months. it's been three months since this bug was introduced, so wouldn't be all that surprising if we have to wait another two. this is just plain sad.

It's a security patch, not a bug/issue fix. And yes, we may have to wait until N for the LTE fix, or it may never get fixed.

So for me 2.15 and 2.47 work the same. All I've ever used is 6.0.1 with both radios. FWIW, the 6p performs just like an iPhone 6s and a Note 5 on VZW at my location.
I work in a very crappy signal area, only VZW gets service, and it's anywhere from 0-2 bars of 1x, 3g, and LTE rotating all day on all VZW phones.
Outside that area, my 6p performs as expected with VZW on the 2.47 radio.

2.47 radio works best for me also!! :good:
I have been bouncing back and forth between 2.15 and 2.47 and 2.15 is giving me better signal, i am in Richmond, VA and we have xlte and all that jazz and when i get a good connection speeds are phenomenal but i do have a lot of problems with it bouncing back and forth between 3g and 4g which i have never had happen before. on 2.47 i was stuck on 3g for some reason and whenever i reboot i end up on 3g which sucks

For all of those who are running the 2.47 radio. 2 questions
1. What 6.0.1 revision level are you running? As stated in that google problem thread ( https://goo.gl/GROfr2 ), someone mentioned 6.0.1 build MMB29M is working well for them, but that ships with the 2.50 radio which is clearly problematic, so it makes me think I'd be ok to get the current 6.0.1 build and simply run the 2.15 or 2.47 radio.
2. What revision of Google Connectivity Services are you running? ( https://goo.gl/4X6FB4 ) Anecdotal evidence seems to indicate this is also causing issues. Even on the 2.15 radio, I had issues running the latest version. I did the "uninstall updates" and my phone seems to perform better, I'm hoping this isn't a placebo but it is another "fix" mentioned in the google thread: ( https://goo.gl/DbwuUy )

When I rolled back I wiped everything and did a clean install via ADB. I'm also running the stock ROM. I'd like to stay with the stock OS for at least a little while because it seems solid otherwise.
Also, this is my first XLTE capable phone. This phone regardless of radio version installed will not stick to XLTE. Does that make sense? Is that how XLTE works? I'm confused greatly by that, if i have 5 bars of XLTE (verified great signal in LTE discovery) why would it not stay on that?

Same here. I live in New England, and I have the best service (speeds and dBm signal strength) on the 6P than I did on my previous G4, Note 5, Turbo, and more.

I probably -shouldn't- flash this radio on Marshmellow, right?
Or is that safe? (I'd be willing to try it, the constant 3G/HSPA hang I'm getting on T-Mobile is crazy, especially since I get 4-5 bars of LTE here after a reboot)
