Back on OPO .. Newly bought on 2nd Dec 2015! - ONE General

I know opening this kind of thread might be weird ! but I want to share my experience with you guys! I already have a OPO purchased in 2014 Nov. I was in love with this device ... I had Nexus 5 , HTC one E8 and OPO at same time.. I never used Nexus 5 because of bad battery life.. although I really loved that device.. Finally 3 months back I gave my OPO to my dad and bought Galaxy S6 . After frustrating 3 months .. I bought another OPO for myself instead of buying any other device .. including n5x, 6p etc etc..
Galaxy S6 has really amazing hardware with most pathetic software ever customized! >.> 3rd party keyboards are always reloaded! i'm like wtf?! OPO / one e8 / n5 had amazing software experience.. and I felt like I went back to 256 MB RAM phones due to Amazing Optimizations by Samsung developers for Galaxy S6!!!
Anyways If you are really thinking to buy some sammy device for replacing OPO ! Don't do that for god sake!!! >.> Anyways Feels great to be owning an OPO again!!!!!!!! :highfive:
Although missing finger print scanner!! But I will live with it!!!!! and My S6 is just gonna be a camera for me now >.>

My OPT arrived a month ago, did not have the courage to leave my OPO, yet. Already unlocked the BootLoader, I installed CMOD 12.1, just to see if it is equal to the OPO. I will wait for the Cmod 13 ...

haha
same here bro, OPO is coolest device i've owned. custom roms, mods, community is huge , it make me feel this is ultimate playground for me, true " android experience" i desire.
i bought, sold several OPO, switch to m8, s6, OPT ( yeap) , and note 5
but still keep an 64gb OPO for my flash-holic game =))

I was thinking for OPT but after looking at the list of sw issues I settled on OPO. I still feel 801 is better than 808 n 810

good phone? but even simple functions it has bugs that are still not fixed until this day!

Goodbye Desire HD, what phone now ?????

Hi guys, what recommendations do you have for my next phone.
I have 2 in mind...
Samsung Galaxy III - blk
or
Galaxy nexus - less powerfull but most people seem to recommend not sure why ?
Will never get a Iphone as there OS is ****. im all about the customization factor and new roms coming out and in the future that will be compatible ect.
Any recommendations ? and could you explain why you recommend ect.
I will be ordering the phone tonight so i need some quick replys if possible cheers.
as i sold my desire hd for £120 lol
If you had posted this before selling your Desire HD I would have said to wait for the new Nexus which will most likely appear around November time. However seeing as you have already sold it, I would personally go for the Galaxy Nexus. People recommend it because of the immense support available for it, both official and on XDA. The main reason why it is being recommended now is because of the Jelly Bean oficial update which made the overall daily user experience better than the new top spec phones ie the HTC One X and Galaxy S3, Officially it should receive every update for a good few major revisions and on XDA there is huge development work for it. Development will still remain strong for it after the new Nexus comes out judging by the developer (and Google) support for the Nexus S.
Personally if I was in your situation I would go for a Galaxy Nexus now because the day to day use performance will be superb with JellyBean and I would possibly sell it when the new Nexus comes out to go for that.
EDIT: But be sure that once the new Nexus gets announced, the resale price of the Galaxy Nexus will drop substantially. Just something to keep in mind when you make your decision.
I couldnt wait lol so i ordered a samsun galaxy III im sure it will keep me happy after my awesome dhd.
S III is the right choice. Galaxy Nexus is getting the updates first, true but it's hardware is already outdated. S III has a healthy community already so you won't be left behind at all.
I have a Galaxy s3 right now and I can say that it is the most boring phone in the universe!
It is so fast that you don't need custom ROMs on it! It is the best in the smartphone galaxy right now! It can do anything you throw at it! This thing is even faster than some netbooks! (ok! all of them)
A friend of mine have the Galaxy Nexus. It is a beautiful and really well build device and with Android 4.1.1 it runs almost as fast as the SGS3!
If you like the standard Android interface and to be one of the first people to get the new updates, this is the phone for you!
So what you need to decide is:
1. Price! The SGS3 is the most expensive smartphone now!
2. Software support! The GN is supported by Google
3. Storage! The SGS3 have MicroSD slot but the GN doesn't
4. Multimedia support! There is no other Android device in the universe that has more codecs supported than the SGS3!!!
There are maybe more deciding factors but you get the point!

You made the right decision!
Yes the Samsung galaxy SIII is the right choice right now.
Well i recommend SONY Xperia S.
Nice screen
cheap for high end device
fast,all games work perfectly!
A$$ load of memory 25,88 GB i made it to 26,00 GB so that is enough
ICS+ JELLYBEAN IN 2013 SUMMER
GOOD battery life compared to desire hd.
looks good
Camera is better than all competition with 12,1mpix! i reviewed agaist iphone 4s and others... so i know that, gotta know howto photography. SO GREAT CAMERA!
good loud speaker.
PLays all videos, if not then DICE player will....
CONS, not so ergonomic Square brick. non removable battery Thats all...
I'd definitely say the Galaxy S3, can't really be beaten at the moment, imo.
HTC One S is awesome worth a try i like it even better than the One X
The main thing I'll be looking for on my next phone will be better battery life. I'm sure everyone wants more, but my DHD is as good as it's been lately (ARHD 6.3.3), and last night I went out at around 4pm with 90%, and at about 10pm I was at 29% and I was actually thinking I should head home because my phone would die out. I used it for texting, taking a few photos... It's just frustrating.
I wonder how a phone with a 4.8" screen actually does on battery in real life usage.
One X is amazing device
I'm in the same boat as you and out of the 2 I'm thinking of ( Same as you ) the S3 is looking to be my choice. One thing to watch price wise is what storage capacity is the phone. CPW have the S3 for £549.95 + £10 payg card but dont state is the 16gb, 32gb or 64gb model. I like CPW 'cause all their phones are unlocked even if you buy on contract

Why give up on DHD???
it still have a good life span.....i would wait to go out right now and get my self a new phone!!!
2 bad that Lord K is shutting down Hes Ice Cold Rom....but i wend in on the Jellybean thread and gave the Unofficial CM10 a shot....and tell U the truth.....all though still in Beta it works great!!.....almost all my apps from ICS Ice cold works..... except the viber app that crashes....My Bluetooth, wifi, cam, gps works just great.....in fact my gps works even better now....before i had to copy some gps files manually into root every time there was a new nightly build.....now it just maxes out on satellites and works great with my sygic app.
And the install of the Jelly rom wend smoothly....into to recovery, clear cashe partition, clean delvig, clear battstats, install the rom , install the jelly gabbs and away it wend......
So guys.....give it a try...and wait at least until 2k13 to look for a new device.....U would be amazed how great the unofficial CM10 Jelly rom works with Ure DHD

Should i buy oneplus one ?

Hello,
i have a Samsung S3 right now with CM11 nightly. It is pretty good and stable. Drivers are not perfect. Expecially camera drivers.
I would like to buy a new device. I have waited for N6 and unfortunally it is too big, too thick e too expensive. So I am thinking to buy a Oneplus One.
I have read around about touchscreen issue. It is fixed ? Drivers in Cyanogen are stable ?
I want a stable phone for daily use. It is ok to test new rom o new kernel sometimes, but i need a stable phone to work with.
What you think ? Should i buy one ?
Thank you !
I have the OPO and its been over 2 month i'm using it!The phone is great and so are the drivers! No touchscreen issues for me!I use multi rom to test new rooms!I think you should go with the oneplus!

I think before making a new thread for a question thats been asked a million times before and an answer that only you can answer you should search for what others have said. Here are only a few I found real quick that can help you out. Lets be honest as well you are asking about rooting your phone and will it be stable. You can read up on any rom you like and find out if its stable but honestly there all based off of cm which is quite stable at this moment. If you are worried stay stock.
First link stock rooted where I would go to ask or rather read up to see just how stable the stock rom is... At least its a starting point. My bad if you think I am being an ass but your question is slightly subjective and all your answers are out there for you. Again my bad

OnePlus One fits a niche crowd, people who like to tinker with their devices and want a true powerhouse to take advantage of. There is also a subset of users that would want a pure-ish Android experience with a customizable interface minus the fluff that comes with a skinned interface like TouchWiz or Sense.
As it stands, I like CyanogenMod without any further tweaks. The phone runs well and doesn't give me many issues to worry about. (Note: no phone is perfect)
If you need mhl, hell no. Otherwise it's the best phone out right now...

Yes though it depends on budget as well I guess. Dollar for dollar I think the OnePlus is still a better buy, however if it's within budget the nexus 6 is clearly the better phone overall.
Mmm bacon
Thnk you all for reply.
I have readed a lot about OPO. I dont like N6, it is big, fat, heavy and expencive. I prefere a 5.5 inc display.
The main problem about OPO are the yellow band and touchscreen issue, that are not resolved with 38R.
I will wait till that problems will be resolved, later i will buy one.
Thank you all !
Its definitely the best smartphone for its price range right now. I have been using it over two month now and i did not have any issue.
Before i bought it, i too was worried about the yellow band problem. But until now I never get the yellow band or touch screen problem.
OnePlus One is perfectly fine and great performance. After i got this phone i immediately try antutu benchmark and suprised that it got the first ranking. That is something to brag to your friends.
As for the rom, CM11S is really stable for daily use and i did not have any problems with it. Great multitasking, smooth gaming, nice camera performance, great speaker quality and great battery life. Plus i heard that they are working to release Android L update for OPO. Cant wait for that. Even if you still want custom rom, most of them that i tried are stable for daily use.

It also depend on how long you're going to keep this phone also. I get at lease 2 phones a year. I have the oneplus one and it always seem like I go back to the Note 3.... But the nexus 6 will be a phone you can keep for another year

Ok if you have read then you also know that not everyone has these issues and the touchscreen issue was software related and those on 38r saying they still have an issue could be user error or faulty devices. Now lets be honest 1+ has sold quite a few devices and I know of at least half a dozen people with them. With that being said I am the only one with yellow banding and its barely noticeable and since the update no one has the touchscreen issue.
Why do so many allow the voices of the few decide for them. At the end of the day it is your decision and if you have done your research then YOU are making the best choice for you....
I've had the s3 and was running cm11 with oneplus mods on it and I can say it doesn't compare.
This phone is ridiculous, it amazingly fast and I have had no problems.
I ordered mine on Saturday and it came yesterday so I've only had a day with it so far but I'm so impressed, would recommend to anyone.
I had a G3, Note3, Z2 and this OPO It's the most incredible smartphone. And the feature that we can unlock bootloader and not lose the warranty is the best!

The G3 was the 16Gb (2GB ram) or 32GB (3GB ram) version?
I'm thinking of buying the oneplus 64GB or the G3 32GB, but i really can't choose which one...
Ive got the 64gb sandstone black, had it for 3 weeks now, worth every penny. At this point the company is well situated and running at full speed, buy with confidence and you will not be disappointed.
You should buy and have a try yourself. For me, this phone is better than expected.
Phone is amazing, period. Get it if you can

For sure. I've been pleased with the phone. The size is nice for me even with my small hands, the battery stands on its own, its plenty fast, many ROMs and kernels to enjoy and for the price what more can you ask for.
This phone should of been the new Nexus 6. Tons of development here
SlimKat or SlimPop
As someone who was in love with my previous phone, nexus 5. The OnePlus is the best phone at market price-wise. If it was priced in the same range as N5 or N6, I would definitely chose a N phone. Software-wise it is kinda buggy (both cm11 and cm11s) and hardware-wise (touchscreen and yellow screen)
I would wait until n6, and then make a choice, because the n6 isn't that much bigger then the OnePlusOne, but damn expensive.
I think I will sell my OnePlusOne when the n6 hit the market, cause I really miss the wireless charging.

Keep coming back to M8

I usually change my phone every year. I bought my M8 in 2014. This year I have tried to replace it with an M9. That went back. So too did the GS6 Edge, Galaxy S6, Honor 6 and possibly this Nexus 6P I'm typing on right now. Apart from the camera, non of this years offerings can beat the experience of the M8! In my opinion anyway. Have you found the same? Looking forward to M10, only 4-5 months away!

Note 3 at the end of 2015, worth buying?

Hi guys,
Yesterday I hard bricked my GS4 trying to update it to marshmellow. The repair will cost $40 and this is after I spent $110 replacing the digitizer. I decided to give up on that device (It was getting a bit beat up anyway).
Walmart is currently selling the ATT version for $250. I bought it but now I am wondering if it is still worth the value now (late 2015). The S4 was starting to show its age especially with the bloatware which is why I was attempting to upgrade the OS. What better place to ask this than a forum full of tech geeks like me who have actually used the device!
So, what do you guys say? Is it worth it now to buy as a daily driver? What do you guys think of the cost? How is the custom rom community? I saw that Samsung EOLed it at 5.0 but what are the chances custom roms will keep going for a few more versions? I have just started to browse this section of xda. The S4 was a hassle especially if people accidentally upgraded it to Lollipop. I know I followed the directions to a T but I still go the hard brick so I am hesitant to attempt to mess around with a Samsung device again.
If anyone has experience with the S4, how is the experience compared to it?
Sorry if this stuff was recently asked, I just quickly browsed the front page of this section
I just got rid of s4 for note 3 also (got mine used £100) note is fantastic but I think you should read read and re read before jumping in. How did you hard brick s4 can you enter bootloader or recovery. As for note 3 I'm running phonesis 5.1.1 as primary and marshmallow test build as secondary rom.
Just get rooted and get a good backup (including efs) and you will be fine
I just really hated the bloatware on the s4 and I thought it really slowed the phone down. My S4 is completely unresponsive, When I plug it into my comp it reads it as an unknown qualcomm device. Do you feel like you could use the note 3 as a daily device for another year?
Yes most definitely nice speed boost from s4 2gb to 3gb makes everything that bit smoother. Stick note5 port on it
Well I don't know which version of S4 you had, but I had the Exynos version and believe me when I say this the software was diabolical, I don't rememeber what version of Android it was, probably KitKat 4.4.2, in any case there was no support for that phone, and had to sell it. Then that hatred of TouchWiz continued in me, and I moved to M7, then sold it in less than couple of months, then bought Moto X 2013, which I literally enjoyed for first two three months, until I realised how pathetic the display was, so sold it and then bought Note 3 last year November, and believe me when I say this, I absolutely love this phone. KitKat was excellent, and despite what people say about ofiicial Lollipop 5.0, I love it too, I don't find any bugs at all! Just wished Xposed was as good as it was on KK. Anyway, for me this phone is performing excellently on 5.0, and especially with Shinto kernel, super smooth.
So if you are not hell-bent with Marshmallow, can live with 5.0 TouchWiz LP, then yes, go on. I believe even with this iteration of Android this phone can run smooth for at least another 5-6 months. Then there are custom ROMs like you said. CM13 is already there, Android 6.0 and all that, I will never touch it, but you know if its your cup of tea, its there. There are Note 5 5.1.1 ports are there as well. Also there are two or three very good to great kernels out there. So I believe if you can live with a decent enough speced phone, then go on, but practically no, I don't think one should get a Note 3 at the end of 2015, especially when Note 4 is really cheap nowadays, and even Note 5 is becoming cheaper gradually, though I am not a fan of it.
I will probably keep using this phone until S7 is announced, then I will have glimpse whether Samsung will bring back user removable battery and IR blaster or not, and I will make my decision accordingly.

Looking to buy OP 2; couple questions

Hello.
I'm looking for a new phone, my budget is around 320 USD and therefore OnePlus 2 has really caught my eye. I've found a deal for 300 USD and I'd like to ask a couple questions.
1. The OnePlus 2 sports Snapdragon 810. I haven't heard much about it, but isn't SD 810 infamous for its issues with overheating? Is overheating an issue with OnePlus 2? Can it be completely resolved by flashing a different ROM/Kernel?
2. I plan to have this device for a longer period of time, around 3-4 years. Is OnePlus 2 a viable choice, despite the fact that almost 2 years passed from the release? Will it be able to hold off for that long, in terms of ROM support and general performance/usage?
3. How satisfied are you with your phone? Would you recommend it to me?
Thanks in advance.

1. Snapdragon 810: daily usage is good (I'm not a gamer at all): Messenger, Fenix (Twitter Client), WhatsApp, Facebook through Chrome Dev: everything is good. Yes, just good. Not awesome.
2. Long period of time ? Hell no. Look at OxygenOS update(s) for example. Well. we still don't have 7.x as OnePlus 3 / 3T already have 7.1.x. ROM support. Maybe custom ones yeah, but I think that's all.
Also, Grarak, which is one of the maintainer of LineageOS for the OnePlus 2, seems to stop build ROMs, as announced here. This might be an issue in future, even if there is some developers on this phone.
3. Satisfied ? Not at all. I bought this phone because I had an invite back in time there were still some, and I though hype would be the same as OnePlus One. But very disappointed with phone.
Just go for 3T, or if you have time, wait for OnePlus 4 | 5 , rumors say OnePlus might announced it soon.

Thank you very much for the detailed answer.
I'd like to look back on some questions:
2. Well, I was probably planning to use custom ROMs exclusively, I'll see about that. I didn't expect much from OygenOS to be honest. The thing about Garak seems worrying though.
3. I'd really like to go for the 3T, but I'm restricted by my budget which is around 330 USD. Do you have a better phone to propose?

You could search for the LG G4 for example, which as a Snapdragon 808, 3GB of RAM, Sdcard and QHD Screen, around 325-350$. Be sure, if you buy it, to check for an unlocked one (no locked bootloader for example).
If you search, you could be able to find a OnePlus 3 (just 3, not 3T), under 350$.

While G4 is certainly an interesting choice, I'm hesitant when going for it since I'm worried of all the bootloop issues that were reported to occur. I also think that I could use a little bumped-up specs.
Thank you for reminding me of OnePlus 3. Since there are small differences between 3 and 3T, I'll try and find a deal under 350$. If you have any online shops to propose, please do so.

Sadly there are no entries for my market (Europe). However, browsing Ebay, I found a listing claiming they have a new OP 3T 64 GB at $352 "in perfect condition". The seller states: "Bought as Anniversary present. To be honest it's a lovely phone if you like Android But I wanted an iPhone. My wife thought I'd like this instead. Used for 2 hrs around the house and that's all. "
How legit do you think this is?
Oh yess man! I've been using the device for quite awhile now and yes I won't recommend it to u now. It's good but not awesome, just good! Moreover, the software updates are kind of on a standstill now however Custom roms are abundant.
At this point of time, within your budget, I would rather recommend you to go with a device with a sd625! Excellent processor with an exceptional battery management, no heating no matter what you throw at it! Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, Lenovo P2 or the upcoming Moto G5 plus ( supposedly to come with Dual Pixel tech same as in Samsung S7) are a few to mention. Moreover, Xiaomi Mi 5 (comes with SD820) is a crazy good phone to consider if u can get your hands on one! Highly recommended!!

Thank you for the reply. I can't go with the Mi 5 due to it being incompatible with my network. What do you think of the Lenovo ZUK Z2 Pro? It looks like an absolute beast to me.

Ya Z2 pro is a pretty good device! But i don't think that it has much software development! And the Camera is mediocre too. Performance wise, its a beast.

Agreed. I don't use camera that much so it's fine for me. I wish it had more software development than it, but even then, it seems to be extremely good out of the box (software-wise). So yeah, I'm in kind of a dilemma now, cause I need a device that will last 3 years or more. Also I can't go with Redmi Note 4 or Lenovo P2 because they don't have the required bands for my provider.

Then my opinion is that u must wait a week or two and buy yourself a Moto G5+ it will be having the same multipurpose fingerprint sensor (the one Lenovo uses), a class apart camera, much faster updates and vast dev community and this time they are even implementing moto voice feature which was earlier enjoyed only by the moto x users! I am not a moto fan though but this device looks promising!

Seems reasonable. I might as well wait for G5+ and buy it when it becomes available. Thank you once again.
Take my advice and don't buy it.
So did you go for the OP2?
The G5 looks like a good alternative!
no save your hard earned money and buy a better phone, this is already a 2 year old phone and its not worth buying anymore, otherwise if you find a new one for just $50 bucks go for it otherwise forget this phone even existed.
