Lag in TouchWiz [Custom Rom] - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey folks
I've been rooting my phones for a long time now and never had big issues.
Currently using NameLess rom, kernel and the correct bootloader+modem.
I came from SOKP for the Note 4 (TRLTEXX) and wanted to go back to TouchWiz.
The only problem I found using other roms (not just NameLess) is that it lags/choppy/stutter while using the phone. It happens during typing, filming, scrolling etc etc.
Also tried wiping the dalvik/cache and reflashing the ROM. So I ran out of ideas and not sure how to fix it.
So far SOKP and CM12.1 runs smooth without any stutter. Not sure what I've done wrong or how to solve this problem.
Hopefully one of you can help me out

Help! Major stability problems with all non-sense roms

Hi all, this is a last ditch cry for help before I give up on custom roms on the i9300 (I9300XXEMG4) and go back to stock or sell it and go with a Nexus 5.
I've tried CM10.1 stable, CM10.3, SlimBean and ParanoidAndroid. All 4.1-4.3.
The issue I'm having is instability with installed apps. Many apps reset their cache randomnly but particularly at reboot - I've had games reset themselves to their just-installed state and pdf scanners lose their documents. Also some apps randomly uninstall themselves and simply disappear, particularly apps which are in effect activation keys to their trial app equivalent, eg Safe Camera Pro Key, Poweramp Full Version, BeyondPod unlocker. Finally, some apps seem to constantly want to update themselves, for example Google Search updates itself at every reboot. These issues happen whether I enable or disable root access.
I haven't been able to find any instances of anyone else having these issues. When I was on stock rom I never had any of these issues. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?
Ok stock roms in sammys world are known as tw roms. And those roms other than stock arent always perfect and may not work for your device the way they are intended. If I was you id pick a non tw rom and follow every instruction properly and if its still not working the way advertised than post in thw q&a thread for that rom

I haven't tried any touchwiz roms, I far prefer to stick to vanilla android. All those I've tried have been non-touchwiz, I've followed instructions very carefully, ensured the correct GAPPS versions etc, and asked for help in the relevant forums here and elsewhere. No joy!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1704138
Total wipe of your phone and install whatever rom you want following the instructions .If that fails then as few report same problems try Sammy custom roms .
Then make your decision .
Ok - think I MAY have solved it. I repartitioned, formatted and flashed stock rom from heimdall and then re-installed CWM touch recovery. Then formatted all partitions and installed slim bean and gapps. TOUCH WOOD - so far no stability problems.
I can only assume that something went wrong with the initial root and cwm install? Perhaps the cwm file was corrupted? Just hopng it doesn't rear its head again...

[Q] Android Kernal, what is it?

I'm using a Galaxy Note 3. I've flashed it with a ROM called X-Note which was really great! And it had 3 options for custom kernals to use. I can't remember which one I chose, all I remember is the other two seemed to prevent my phone from booting. (maybe the issue, I'm no expert).
And now I have recently flashed CM11 via temasek's build and it's working very well indeed. The thing is though, they seem to have their own kernal that I can use. I'm not though, I'm just wondering what it is and if I should try using it.
From my experience some kernals can stop the phone from booting. Is this true? Maybe it was just coincidence for me? Can anyone explain?

(as a side question, X-Note also came with a custom version of TWRP. I'm thinking of going back to Clockworkmod recovery as there's a few new ones on the GN3 XDA threads. What would be the easiest and cleanest way to do this?)

Question; after installed I try to flash a custom kernel (AOSP/TW/GE - 4.2/4.3 KT-SGS4 - MFD - KTweaker) and everything started to work wrong (no wifi, net fc,and many others)please tel my what kernel it's perfect for your rom and also if it's realy ned to flash a custom kernel ?
10X
A custom kernel is not required for these ROMs as they include the stock Samsung TouchWiz kernel which I'd say is probably the best kernel for the stock ROMs.
Isn't there a way to get WiFi working without flashing a new rom? I don't want to wipe the phone actually and the kernel is pretty nice I think.
It's pretty konservative with the battery and gives me extra power when I need it.
Isn't there a WiFi-fix or something like that?

WiFi-fix
Regards
Got the same issue with 4.4.2 and newest kernel version...
Tried changing build.prop line but with no success.
Is there any kind of help or a adequate wifi fix for kitkat?
Solved: wiped cache and dalvik and fixed permissions couple of times. Now it works

I'm using GT-I9505 "international" with Paranoid Android 4.45 and successfully installed Ktoonsez kernel (3.4.94) with flashify app using Philztouch cwm recovery.
No problems at all, everything works, not tweaking by KTweaker, just raised 2.2GHz from PA's processor settings, ondemand as processor governor and Noop on i/o scheduler.
Tried few KTweaker profiles first but didn't find any good what understands to drop processor on deep sleep mode, almost all keeps it running all the time, PA's own handling with freshly installed KT-SGS4 kernel did best job for me.
Testing with profiles was frustrating thing, there wasn't way back to same situation what I got on fresh install.. few PA flashes later stand on "default".
Props to KToonsez (kernel), Christian Göllner (Flashify) and Paranoid Android.

My galaxy s4 has lags?

Hi all, I'm experieng a very bad and fastidious problem. I was on danvdh GE rom with my galaxy gt-i9505 and all was working properly. A day I have the (bad) idea to update the kernel. I was using kt kernel. I updated it and I don't liked because it was a little bit laggy, so i reverted back to a previous version. No way, the lag was still there. I full wiped intalling faux123 kernel but lag was still there. I did many and many full wipes and I tryed many and many roms and kernels. I don't think that my problem is a rom or a kernel. I tryed as well tw roms (unusable with this problems because they are slow and with this problem much more) and GE roms. I also notice a lag in the bootanimation, samsung or ge edition, after a full wipe. What's wrong with my phone? I'm with the old bootloader but I don't think this is the problem because before all was working properly! Do you think that my phone is damaged or what? I tryed as well a Deep Clean 1 but nothing, still laggy! Saying my phone is laggy I mean that:
1) the bootanimation is laggy
2) using the phone I can see animations lags and no smoothness but not ever.. every 1 minute? Don't know what's happening!
Please help me, I'm going crazy! I hate lags... thanks in advantage..

CM11 Vs Latest CM12 Bacon Nigthly

Hey, i just want to know your opinions about why is better CM11S or why is better the latest CM12 Bacon Nightly ( cm-12-20150128-NIGHTLY-bacon)
I'm not trying to be a spoiler, but seriously, when it's so easy to do a nandroid backup and flash CM12, why not just try it? The only slight hassle is having to flash the old firmware if you decide to go back, but even that's not hard if you know how to use fasboot / recovery / flash ROMs.
And to answer your question, it's better because it's Lollipop, a step forward.
Bottom line: there is only one way for you to know.
As the above post said try it but myself i went back to cm11 as i tried every cm12 rom plus different kernals and my device would still be awake in wakelock app went back to mahdi rom with ak kernal and all good. still early stages for cm12 and cant wait to go back but will wait for a while

Your problems have nothing to do with the cm12 nightlies "early stage".
Using cm12 since unofficial builds in december. There were some problems,
but not the battery life. It is the same as on cm11 for me.
Thats good news for you but since going back to cm11 my device goes deep sleep im happy

Official CM12 Nightlies with stock kernel.
If you ask me ALL kernels are overrated in terms of battery life, but that is just my opinion (after some testing).
It is funny though how some users with custom kernels are undervolting and underclocking their
devices and yet never achieve the same battery life I get with all stock.
Some even claim that there device is more fluid than stock with kernel x or y.
If you are into multirom or perhaps display color calibration then sure, a custom kernel is the way to go.
btw, I don't use greenify, I don't block play services wake permissions, I don't use the facebook app.

Tnx for both your replys I've always used cm 12 with custom kernels. Will try with stock and see how it goes
I reverted back to stock 44S after trying CM12 in Nov, was too unstable back then. Seems people are getting stable experience from CM12 now, think I am gonna flashing it later today
Thanks all!
I've gone from 11s to 12 to 11 again. Cm12 is stable but does have a few annoying bugs. The one that annoyed me the most was the audio buzzing bug. Many say enable the phone to always have 2 cores on, but that never fixed my issue. Buzzing always happened. Then there was the proximity issue which van be fixed by flashing a new firmware and modem but my phone doesn't take the modem. Lost lte and signal kept dropping every 3 minutes. Also had an issue when I was in a call, I often was a unable to hear the person. Only had to enable speaker and then Disable it again. That was the icing on the cake so I went back to cm11s. Now here I can say that battery life is almost identical. Just ever so slightly better on lollipop for me. The system is not as smooth specially with scrolling. I have scroll lag on instagram and Facebook again (minimal but noticeable) system, for a stock rom, isn't really too stable. Had the phone crash on me and when I turned it back on, it asked me to re set up the device but data was still in tac. So yeah. That's pretty much it.

Have tried CM12 nightly, and back to 44s because one game that I like didn't run smooth . I think ART cause this, been trying on CM12 unofficial builds also, same result. Maybe the game hasn't updated for lollipop yet.
