They are giving us the new Touchwiz icons that look like they are the result of Touchwiz being raped and getting a back alley abortion. Nooooooooooo. I hope they at least include themes so that we can hide that mess. Then again, by the time this is actually released by Verizon, I assume a lot of us will have already moved on to non Samsung phones.
I think the biggest UI upgrade I can recall occuring on a Samsung device was maybe when the OG Note got Jellybean and looked fairly similar to the Note II and picked up some new features. Otherwise, Samsung has traditionally let as little as possible trickle down from their latest flagships to "last year's" model when doing updates---look at the Note 4 or the Note 3 Lollipop situation , for example. Neither phone was as smooth or as refined under Lollipop as it was under KitKat (I do not recall if the Note 3 was better under JB or KK). I certainly do not expect things like theme support or manual camera modes to ever trickle down to the Note 4. I'll just be glad to get its RF and battery performance back to where it was with KitKat.
I highly, highly doubt we ever see this.

His demo phone seems to be very laggy as hell with MM 6.0. Hopefully by the time we getting this it should be better.
It looks like it has a few things I might like. But the icons, dear lord are they bad. Way to iPhoneish for my liking.
The settings menu looks decent to me though.

Exactly why I hope they throw in themes. I hope somebody asks on the youtube page. He's been answering questions. (I tried to ask, but youtube won't let me sign in since I deleted G+ and my YT channel.)

So, I was very bored, and I made a concept. I'm sure you've all seen GridOS, and I know that you've probably seen many people asking for it. I really wish we could get something like this going on android. I know literally nothing about creating apps (yet) but I wonder if the designer of Launcher 7 would be interested, my concept is basically a 4-way-scrollable version of his existing app. I'd be willing to help with graphics in ANY way.

I feel that this should be in themes
It would be nice to see grid os, I thought it was built on android? They say they can use android apps so I'm assuming yes we just need to port or *a* port.

Actually, this isn't just a theme. This is a hopeful development thread for a full-fledged home replacement app. I contacted the developer of Launcher 7, and he said that he doesn't have time to work on anything right now. He did say, however, that he was playing around with the idea of a Windows 8 launcher for android, but that this looked much more interesting.
Very interesting idea, actually more interesting than the Win8 layout itself. I haven't got right now time for coding tablet, but if I prototype it again, I'll definitely look at this approach over win8.

Hi all on XDA
I have always liked to make digital pictures in Photoshop and so on. So I just wanted to say that if you want some icons or pictures for your ROM I will gladly help. I'm not a real pro but I can make real good stuff sometimes the only problem I have is that until the 16th of August I've not so much time. After that I think I've time, so if you want just PM me

As a graphic designer myself, may I put in some advice? Get a portfolio of your work going. If you don't have anything/want to try something new, start working on some projects for major ROMs, even if they won't be used. It allows people to see how you envision the brand and identity of that particular piece, and it showcases your talents and technique (obviously).
Perhaps start with the biggest, CyanogenMod? With codeworkx releasing the experimental build of CyanogenMod 10 for the Galaxy S II less than 24 hours ago, it's a great opportunity to start!

That was a great idea with cyanogenmod 10, I'll do that and also upload some of my resent work, if I find it.
Thanks again for the reply

As one of the XDA reviewers and long time users of both STRATA and FRAME, I'm drooling over this
The Verge just did a write up as well: http://www.theverge.com/2014/1/6/5277128/metawatch-meta-premium-smartwatch-brand
Coincidentally, Pebble going to introduce Pebble Steel which is the same as regular one but with a metal frame/bracelet, but it's nowhere near as elegant as this one. Sorry, but I think it was brilliant how they incorporated 4 corner buttons as part of the bracelet buckle (obviously Frank Nuovo design). Also, fantastic move to switch to epaper display.
Can't wait to test it out!!!
yeah really like the new steel pebble, the matte black with leather strap looks really nice
still, wish HOT Watch would be getting here sooner, really want to try the private calling function, if it's not to my liking i'm interested in something else
Btw, I haven't seen anybody confirm those hinges are secured by 4 corner buttons. I'm just assuming they are keeping functionality unchanged since the original MW has 6 buttons and going down to 2 would be too much of a change. I'm also curious if it's going to be waterproof like FRAME and if they're going to use a similar charging clip or something else, maybe magnetically attached one? As soon as I find out more details, hopefully after CES, I will post it in here.
I am more excited if there are much faster development on the Android software front!
I like the new hardware of course but at the moment pebble steel wins overall due to the solid development work on both official and unofficial software.
Still praying hard for my metawatch frame to be revived with this new announcement!

^lol, but seriously 700 posts and still dont know whats doin.
If you have ask, then I'd say no. A rom is not worth it. If you do your homework instead, then you would already know the answer!
It's like saying do you need to modify a car, probably not. Taste for me has no limit

Mods please move this post. OP is not following the rules...

first i know its wrong section and this will be likely closed rather than moved but anyway.
installing a rom is you choice, i dont have the s5, but if i had i would do so, dude on this soc, this thing lags while scrolling lists and changing homescreens (wtf?) and animations are normally choppy (i used one for about a week). also i dont like touchwiz ui, for me, touchwiz only in note series.(but i would keep in mind a custom stock, since some features are usefull, and the camera app is really good)
If going custom wasn't really worth it, we wouldn't have had XDA. This places exists for the sole reason that someone somewhere thought that his device could do that extra mile, just with a little tweaking. We would have never reached 5.6 million members here if people did not agree to that sentiment.
However, to each their own. If you are happy with your current setup, there is nothing wrong with that. Stay stock or stay custom, the choice remains yours.

Found this gem of a feature hidden in the display options. Has this been brought up? It's pretty great!

Many phones offer a similar feature, I know Samsung does and I think LG might as well.

Coming from an S5 myself, I can say this implementation from Motorola is much improved or better. I actually had it disabled on the S5 (along with everything else) as it did not work very well.
On Turbo it is picking up detection even in a very dark room and it actually re-initializes the screen if it goes dim. I'm keeping my sleep at 15-30 seconds with this feature.
My Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 has this feature. Doesn't work very well at night time where the Turbo seemed to pick up my face no problem in just about pitch black conditions. Very happy with it and leave them both on as well!
@geoff5093, just realized you are like 20 minutes from me, I am from Londonderry, actually go through Goffstown just about every other weekend to play paintball in Weare... small world!
