6p Retail Mode - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I have a nexus 6p in retail mode. I would like to know how to remove the retail mode. It doesnt allow me to access developer options to make changes to allow me to flash a standard rom. It has an option to enter the code to unlock retail but the huawei rep dont want to give the code as they want it to only be a demo.
Any help would be great.

Just a hunch... Did you happen to steal this phone in a retail store by any chance or bought it off from a sketchy person on craigslist? If you actually bought the phone from huawei online then you should ask for a replacement because of the software you were given with.

I bought it online now the person is uncontactable. Just my luck I guess. I tried flashing rom but need access to developer options. Huawei are no help.

Either you stole it or you've bought a stolen device. Either way the thing is probably useless anyway because the IMEI will have been reported and blacklisted.

What's weird I can still make phone calls on it. Just has a demo mode on it. If IMEI was blocked I wouldn't make phone calls?

Demo mode is in the System UI Tuner.

I tried that but it's disabled. It's some other huawei overlay

Just a reminder. These "too good to be true" prices for the NP6 is as always too good to be true to buy for a cheap price. You should know that these phones can be purchased free online on the Google Play store, otherwise there's no logical explanation that you would buy the phone from that person.

IMEI Question for MDA Compact

Hello Everyone
I was just wondering if it was possible to work with the IMEI number for an MDA Compact ?
Work with it in what way? You can add up all the numbers in the IMEI number, and if it adds up to more than 50 you will have good luck for the rest of the week. Lucky colour: green.

HAHA! I was laughing for ages when I read that!
Change IMEI
Someone has sold me an MDA Compact, but apprently this has been blocked, so i was wondering if the IMEI number can be changed.
blocked from what? the network? that means its a stolen phone.
just install new image and it will be fine
ftp://ftp.clubimate.com/ u will find image for JAM
A new image will change IMEI? I dont think so.
install new image to unlock the phone , not to change the IMEI .
if the phone is blocked (and not locked) then flashing a new image will change nothing.
The best is to go to the seller.
can you explain more what is the block ? Thanks
If it's been blocked from the network, then tough luck - you've bought a stolen phone - or you have stolen a phone - either way, you'll not get any help on this forum to change the IMEI.
If you did indeed buy the phone, speak with the seller, or contact the police. If you stole the phone, enjoy your new PDA but forget about the phone.
Well, to be utterly fair, it is possible that he is on a different network, in which case the phone was locked to a specific carrier, not blocked. Phones can be unlocked for a different carrier.
Did you mean blocked or locked?
Well the fact that he said the phone was blocked, and wanted to know how to change the IMEI suggested to me that it had been stolen, and he knew exactly what he was talking about.
how we can check if the phone stolen or not , and in this case is it safe to buy from ebay .. ?
regards
There's not really any way to check - just make sure the seller has good feedback, and get full contact details, and buy via PayPal or a credit card - if it turns out to be stolen, contact PayPal, your credit card company, or ultimately the police.
not necessarily "stolen".
Sometimes it has been reported broken and insurance is claimed (which would be stealing from insurance company).
Or phone with contract (simlocked & sponsored by phonecompany) and refusing to pay the contract (which is stealing from the phone provider).
In both cases the Phone could get IMEI-blocked.
You can always ask the provider if it is blocked. tell them you can buy a phone, but want to know beforehand. Sometimes they will tell you.
changing IMEI
about changing IMEI.
There could be onother reason for doing that: i've been looking for a way to do it just to make shure ==the phone company could not identify me if i change the sim card e.g. buy another number and use the same device==
Will they really care?

[Q] Voided phone - technique to fix with root + IMEI change?

Background: I purchased a new Nexus 4 which UPS then delivered to the wrong house. I contacted Google, and agreed they could void the device and refund me the money.
2 weeks later the phone arrived. I contacted Google to see if they could unvoid the phone to save hassle. They said it was too late but that I could keep the phone for free e.g. for spares or whatever. I confirmed it was mine several times!!
So... in the interests of environmentalism, I want to use this phone.
The course of action I propose is:
1. Root the phone
2. Change IMEI number to that of an old Samsung Galaxy I own
3. Use the phone
This should be legal and sensible.
QUESTION: Is there a way I can perform the rooting and changing of the IMEI number without connecting to the network. If this happens, I presume it will contact Google then self destruct?!
All knowledge and suggestions related to this situation most gratefully received
Have you verified that the phone doesn't work with any networks? Technically, changing an imei is illegal in the u.s. (even to that of an old phone that you own)
P.s. just re-read the op. I don't think google can "disable" it like that.

Google can Disable the IMEI by black listing it with the carriers.
But as stated changing the IMEI is illegal and not to be talked about here.

[Q] how to change imei

Hello, i have looked everywhere and cant seem to figure out how to physically change my imei number. I have a samsung galaxy s5 smg900p and it is rooted. I seen some things online about going into engineer mode and then going into cds information to change the imei but the dial codes do not work. If anyone could lead me in the right direction i would greatly appreciate it.

Everything you're allowed to know is here.
Don't ask again because there are no more answers for you on this site.
Go that link and read and think. That is it. Next time use search function like all other human beings, who know the alphabet, do.

sorry don't know it myself can't help ,regard's.
If your phone was legally obtained there would be no need to change the IMEI. If you bought this phone from a reputable place they could replace if the IMEI was dodgy.
Moral of this story is don't be cheap and buy a phone off some dodgy person for a price that seems too good to be true. If it was blacklisted by yourself because you thought it was stolen but turns out it wasn't then you could have it reversed by the network.

Core Prime G360T1 "Server not responding. Please try again later."

I've purchased unlock for this phone and I should have checked if it was connecting to the server before ordering the unlock. When I try to unlock it through the default unlock app it's giving me this error. Has anyone gotten this error before? Any fix to it?

Your best bet would be to contact the customer service of where u ordered the unlock code from. They would be better equipped to help resolve your issues with it than anyone here. I dont use the unlocking service companies, many of them are shady and not legitimate so its wise to make sure you choose one that has a good track record of doing business.
I tried contacting them, but I didn't realise that their policy states no refunds if I get this error as I was suppose to check before ordering. It's a legit company and I've bought unlock codes many times from them. Anyway, it seems for some reason the phone isn't able to connect to the servers. I tried a hard reset and everything pretty much.
There really isnt much you can do then, if you missed a step or didnt verify something before ordering it unfortunately your just SOL. If there policy is such that no refunds are given then you just gotta eat your mistake. Hey dont feel to bad, we have all messed up at one time or another doing something with our phones. I guess you just live an learn from it.
You can keep trying to connect to the server though. Maybe its just down. Other than that my only other idea is if you actually have the keys to unlock your phone try looking on google for a manual way to get to the unlocking menu. There are hidden service menus for our phones but they are not always available, it varies from model to model

G530T Walmart family/t mobile unlocking?

I recently purchased this phone (about 3 days ago) and i have rooted and put Gwiz v1 boot loader onto it. It runs very well, but the t mobile service in my area is abysmal. The t mobile device unlock doesn't work, and neither t mobile or Walmart will unlock it until it's been on their plan for 90+ days without issues.
I want to switch to AT&T towers on straight talk, but that sim isn't able to be used until I unlock it. If i were to purchase an unlock code, where would I enter it? I've got developer mode on, if that makes any difference.
Friendly bump.
I haven't unlocked a phone in a LONG time (I just buy them unlocked now), so there's a good chance the process has since changed, but I remember buying the unlock code and then entering it into the dialer app/calling it. There was then a carrier-specific recorded voice message announcing that the phone's been unlocked.

I don't want to pay for an unlock code I wouldn't be able to use. The guy selling them says that the phone should be asking for an unlock code.

I completely understand... I'd be thinking the same if I were in your shoes. I did some looking around and it seems like the unlock process is no longer done via dialing a number, but rather via apps - some carriers make available an app where you simply enter an unlock code and the rest of the work is automatic, so please check and see if this applies to you.
If not, the process is going to be somewhat more difficult. You'll probably have to flash some O/CFW, root the phone, then install and use an unofficial unlocking app. My dad had to go this route for his Sprint S6 (he's now using T-Mobile). If you're using this detour, try and find, then follow, a tutorial on flashing firmware and rooting your device. I'll post some links if you can't find anything. After doing that, look around for an unofficial carrier unlocker. There's probably several here on XDA, but do note that most of them will lighten your wallet by $20-30 or so. Once you pay the developer, they'll either email you a code or whitelist your IMEI for their app, and send you the apk.
Best of luck, and have a great day.

My phone is rooted and has Gwiz v1 custom bootloader. I haven't seen anything about unofficial unlocking apps, but I tried the official T-mobile unlock app and it didn't work on original or flashed firmware. I tried calling T-mobile, who told me to call Walmart Family Mobile, called them, they told me to call Straight Talk, who told me to go back to Walmart. Straight Talk can't unlock the phone, and neither T-Mobile or Walmart will unlock it until I've been a customer for 3+months.
