Android Beam Issues - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I've tried to beam several files to my 6p from other devices (LG Realm & LG G4), and the file transfer either fails or I get the message that the receiving device does not support beaming large files. That large file I speak of is just a picture. Googling Android beam shows directly on the Google Android wiki site that Android beam supports file transfer of almost any file and large files also so I'm lost. Can anyone confirm beaming to the Nexus 6p acting strange?

There is a definate size limit for Android beam. I find that any file 20MB or greater will fail to trasnsfer.

You must pair your x10 mini with other device and then you can download files from other device
Have you made your device discoverable for others to find?
am using X10. i dont know whether this applies to x10 mini too, but as of now, file can only be transferred between two android phones.u need to have root access to transfer files to other types on android os 1.6. Apperently this feature is available only with os 2.0. I tried the same method, i was able to pair it with a nokia & my laptop also. but when i tried to send files i got a message saying u need root permission.

That's not true. I've sent files to and from my computer and older phones (X1a, P1i, T610, and T68i); they all transferred fine to and from the X10i.
@Nocturnal310
I use bluetooth file transfer too. I have problems all the time with it. To make sure everything goes smoothly, you have to pair both android phones ahead of time. Then initiate the transfer within the bluetooth app's file manager. You should also do one file at a time. For some reason transfers always fail when I try multiple files. Finally for android to android transfers, the app must be open on both phones.
Google seriously needs to get their ass moving on improving bluetooth functions. If my old handset from 2002 can do it without such hassle, then they should be able to do it just as well or better now.

Not true.
Ive bluetoothed files to and from my laptop, htc phones, nokia phones and ericsson phones on my x10
The os doesn't handles sending files very well. Use the app Bluetooth File Transfer developed by "medieval software" on the market, it is free and will help you to transfer files easily.
Just bought my girlfriend an x10 mini and cant seem to be able to send or receive photos through bluetooth. Ive tried downloading bluetooth file manager through the market but apparently it has been taken off? Is this SE taking on the same values as apple when it come to bluetooth? or is it a fault. Is there anyway that i can get round this as she uses bluetooth quite alot. Any help is greatly appreciated.

[Q] Multiple Users - How to share a folder?

After hearing multiple user support is coming with the latest jelly bean, I decided to buy a Nexus7 (32GB 3G) immediately - will share it with my girlfriend and this way we both can comfortably use gmail for example. First I thought the profiles will not be separated too heavily. The opposite turned out to be true: profiles are completely isolated - apps have to be installed/purchased/configured separately, I can live with that, at least we don't mess with each other's data. But I observed another functionality when connecting to PC through USB - switching a user on the tablet is followed by a plug&play sound on the computer, the "Nexus 7 - Portable Media Player" disappears and reappears with all different files and folders. What you open this way is the user-specific /sdcard folder which points to /storage/emulated/0 for the first user and to /storage/emulated/10 for the second user. Unfortunately this doesn't appear to be a permissions setup to adjust.
But now... where should I copy movies and music so that it's visible for both users? Does anyone happen to have a suitable solution preferably not involving the need to root the device? Thanks.
P.S. -- for those interested in the feature, I forgot to mention, that the overall user experience while switching profiles is very good. It's quick and you'll find your apps running. There are little circles with google avatars on the bottom of the lock screen to pick a user.
With multiuser, there is no need to purchase and install multiple copies of apps. Check the other topics on multiuser.

Fact is, that in the other account, there is none of my applications visible, only those coming pre-installed. I can find the applications I'm using in my first account in Play market, and it offers me to either INSTALL or BUY depending on if it's paid - a user has no access to applications installed by other users - no speculation, this is how it works for me. Nexus 7 3G, 4.2.1.
The only message that suggests shared application is when I run Settings -> Users -> Add User, this appears: "... Any user can accept updated app permissions on behalf of all other users".

nexus 7 4.2.2..
example,on first user, just put any file folder to android/data/ then switch to second user,go to android/data you will see that folder, then cut and paste to any folder you want in second user...that the way how I share file folder to second user....
file transfer to second user nexus 7 4.2.2
in first user,go to file manager find android/obb,put any file to obb not data,if no obb in android just make new one, then go to second user,in file manager, open android/obb,you can see your file in it,just cut and paste to any folder you want in second user...
I'm having trouble with this too. I'm running 6.01 and trying to move data between two users on the same phone (Nexus 5x). There is no obb folder, if I create one on one side it doesn't show on the other side. Creating a "share" folder in the Android folder? Same thing.

Vanilla Nexus 7 MTP Problem Win7 Transfer Issue

I am having an issue backing up files and folders from my Nexus 7 to my Windows 7 PC through the provided USB cable. The problem itself is that when I copy a folder from my Nexus 7 to my harddrive, only the folder will copy but none of the contents. I can still copy individual files from within that folder but not all the time and only some of the time I can copy groups of them. I can copy groups of folders only sometimes also. It seems random which files do not copy and they are not large files but very small only 15kb word documents.
I just got off the phone with Google's support service but no one there knows anything about the issue. The guy I was on the phone with didn't even know what MTP was. He suggested trying troubleshooting steps for fixing Windows XP problems, and told me to use Google Drive. Neither of those were good options for me. He also told me that another tech would tell me the exact same thing. I nearly lost it at that point, but I asked him to escalate the problem anyways and hopefully they will get back to me within a few days.
There is another thread about this same problem but it was posted last year and the title does not match well. That is why I have started a new thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1996385&highlight=windows+usb+transfer
If you also have this problem please respond so we can get some discourse going on the issue. If you know of a fix let me know. I've tied everything you can do from re-installing drivers to stopping all apps on my device. It's a vanilla Nexus 7 so it could be an Android 4.2.1 issue.
Please don't respond and tell me to use Google Drive or other cloud services or some app. I know of all the other routes for transferring files.
Try re-booting your Nexus 7 by turning it off and then back on. The file list that MTP shows on you Windows computer is often out-of-date and does not match the actual files on your tablet. Your Windows computer may show files that have been deleted and may not show files recently added so it gets confused when trying to transfer these ghost files. Re-booting seems to make the MTP file list current.
There may also be a file refresh app in Google Play that does something similar to re-booting.

File transfer issue

I downloaded a 1.2GB file to my nexus 4. upon connecting it to windows to transfer it over I don't see the file.
I see the other files in the folder but its like the larger file is hidden. Is there some file size cap that prevents it from showing in windows?
Edit: turning on and off usb debugging has no effect, still only see various files except for larger files
anyone?
that happens alot, no file cap, i fix it by rebooting 2 or 3 times to get it shown, must be a issue with nexus media storage manager or some lousy process, i dont know why google wants to make it harder for us.
In Windows try to search a dot (.) in the folder. If you couldn't see it then the file is likely encrypted.

Cool a restart did the trick. Weird that files don't show up at first, guess it needs a fresh media scan to work.

Nexus 6p pictures not showing on device via USB cable

Hi guys.
I have just got a new nexus 6p and intend on passing my current one on to my wife.
I have inserted the official USB cable in and Hooke up to my pc like I have done many times before to pull off my camera folder which is around 14gb
However it is showing as around 1gb once downloaded and a real random selecteion of pictures.
I used airdriod and could see the full 14gb folder and all its contents. However due to the size it bombs out every time when I try the zip file download.
So first off anyone know why the device is showing 10% of my pics and video ?
And any other ways I can get these files off ?
It's all backed up on Google photos but I like having it offline on my device.
do you use airdroid premium? if not, they limit file transfers, so thats most likely the issue there.
try using android file transfer app, see if you get different results.

Don't know how to fix it, but you can just download everything from the Photos site to your computer.
