This seems to be a feature of some Xposed module, like "Gravity Box", "Halo Floating Window", "Floating Android" or so...
You must have Root access.

Thanks for replying, but, bro, have you used Note 3 with 5.0 update? This is my phone and what you seeing is a stock feature.
All I want to know is the proper way of enabling this. This is called Pop-up window. This can be enabled by a flick from corner, but 98% of the time, I end up opening Notifications. So wanted any Note 3 user to help me learning this.

Oh, sorry, I'm still on KK...
Maybe you must go to a Display settings or so. Or go to Ssung site and download the latest version of the manual...
I have Dark Lord Note 5 port instead of official Note 3 Lollipop ROM. So I am not sure if this works in official Note 3 ROM but at least in Note 5 port you can also long press title bar of app in recent apps list to open it as popup window. Also if you have two apps in split screen view you can long press circle in border of split view and drag currently used app to popup view.

When in an app, slide in diagonally from top right corner to around bottom left area. You may have to try a few times to get used to it.

First of all there are multiple Note 5 port ROMs in this forum. Some of them might be more stable & bugfree than others. Personally I haven't tried any other Note 5 port ROM than Dark Lord. Also I have never had official Note 3 Lollipop ROM in my phone so it makes comparision bit difficult too.
Based on my own experience Dard Lord ROM has been stable enough to stay in my daily use. I have noticed however occasional lagging for example in recent apps list. It has happened for me only after waking up phone from standby mode. Other than that I haven't experienced any issues. Also I don't know if lagging is caused by porting ROM from Note 5 or some of many customizations I have done like Xposed modules or if it is just common to all Samsumg Touchwiz Lollipop ROMs.
In conclusion I think Note 5 ports are quite stable and bugfree. If you decide to try one I would probably recommend to try some other than Dard Lord since Dard Lord development has stopped for now. Also it is highly recommended to read all the installation instruction carefully and read about known issue and fixes to them from thread of your choice Note 5 port ROM beforehands.

Most of the Note 5 ports are based on DarkLord's Note 3. Most of the ports simply add more custom features or fix bugs that were valid in DarkLord's port.

I wish and I hope any of our amazing developers can see this post as I want to know if its possible to PORT any GALAXY S6 ROM. With the new light weight TouchWiz version our Note 4 will perform even better and I guess battery life will be even greater. Please XDA community and Devs make this happen...Thanks in advance...Please comment anything related...lets make this happen, Thanks XDA community and XDA Developers.
You do realize that those ports are always less stable? Theming it and adapting various stuff is no problem, but it's better to wait for the official thing. Personally I don't hold high hopes that any "if" port will work really amazing well.

Porting parts of a new framework is one thing, but the new TouchWiz is radically different. Plus the immensely upgraded hardware contributes to the fluidity. If you just port parts of the framework, it will look like it, but feel like it as well? Maybe to some parts, but it's not just the new TouchWiz which makes the S6 fly [emoji14]

There's an active work to port S6 firmware to our Note 4. It's called "GlamourROM" and it's made by the XDA user @henrylife
While the rom is working, there're actually some major bugs here and there:
1) Front camera doesn't work
2) Grid View in launcher
3) SMS crash while writing longer messages
4) Framework's missaligned layouts
5) S-Pen doesn't properly work/it's not enabled in settings
6) Lockscreen effects
7) Automatic brightness
You can see all the work here . Cheers!

wow thank you, i knew i wasnt the only one thinking about this
hello!
i have galaxy note 3 sm-n900 and i have 2 questions which i want to ask.
1. my device have been brought to me with 4.3 stock rom. when i have got it, it has had a preview movement in the lock screen with the s-pen (when i have floated the pen above it it rippled) and a preview with the s-pen on folders in the homes screens and in the applictions drawer (when i have floated the s-pen above them they have showed me the apps that was in the folders). few days ago, i have updated my device to 5.0 stock rom. since then, both of what i decribed above do not work anymore (beside that the s-pen works.). is there any way to make it work like that again?
2. any custom rom ? (important stuff in the rom: up-to-date and s-pen fully works.)
please help, thanks!!
2. any custom rom ? (important stuff in the rom: up-to-date and s-pen fully works.)
Fully discussed in each roms thread .
up!!
please help with question 1!
thanks!
PLEASE!
ANY help?
i don't know, I never used my Note 3 with Tourchwiz based on Lollipop. Try this search.
http://www.google.com/search?q=note 3 lollipop s-pen features missing&rct=j
As for up to date, cm12.1 with s-pen helpers, it works really great. I'm not sure about the preview thing, never cared for the pen much. Also cm13 is only a couple of months away to be a viable daily driver.
Here is the solution:
1 throw your Phone outside the Window
2 DONE
up
can someone post a serious reply for my first question? please?
it it important to me.
thanks...

Point is that its a pain to sort through all pages and links, and a bit confusing to find the latest build/ least bugs/ patches etc. IMO I think OP should update his first post accordingly.
yeah, I think it's much better to open a thread for each ROM. It's a huge mess and often you don't know to what ROM the comments refer to.
btw, is this rom multi-language?
And what does "quite stable" mean?
I recommend flashing this rom. It's way more solid than the miui dev roms.
+1 for having a new, separate thread to discuss this rom specifically. Not sure why that guy is complaining.

All these custom Roms are pretty similar. Made by Chinese Dev "bule" with camera fix by Russian "nofearnohappy" from 4pda.
The miui rom keep disconnect and reconnect me when im on wifi and its really annoying cuz im playing online game so yeah custom rom for me

What about the mic issues? In MIUI it was the case when recording suddenly switched to the noise-cancellation mic and it causes a lot of troubles during the call.

Spurious processes running in the background.
What is system server running in the background, there seems to be a few extra processes running not in the official cm12.1 i was running on my s5 before i bought the note 2
Idk, u can try removing them with titanium backup
Wow glad I finally decided to check back to see some more roms for this phone. I had been using one of the first aosp roms for this phone without vibrate. While it was working fine, I did miss the vibrate function. Checked back and saw this one and it looked pretty damn good. Installed it with no issues at all and so far it is working perfectly.
Can't connect to web with data connection. Only WiFi.
I'm kind of surprised this thread did not get any bigger. Seems a lot of people have overlooked a really good rom. I've been using this rom for 6 months now and I still have 0 problems with it. Don't know how much longer this phone is going to last but it's still chuggin along. Did have to finally replace the battery as it developed a bulge in it (got this phone when it first came out so it's been while). Other than that I'm good. This rom is solid.
Hi,
I've been searching the internet for a solution to have the Note 4 multi window functionality for my Note 3 (especially the floating window part). So far I've only found partial answers, but no real solution.
So here's my question: is it possible? If so, please point me in the right direction
Thanks!
If this is what you mean by multiwindow, flashing a Note 7 ported ROM might be the easiest way to get this, can't say about stock ROM though as I've only used stock for a week or two

This is cool for people without a Galaxy Note phone, because it adds the functionality of the Pen App Launcher. But what this module does, I can already do with the stock rom of the Note 3. What the Note 4 (and the following Notes) make it better is that they've bundled all the multi window functionality into one "app" or "launcher" (don't know how to call it).
On the Note 3, you have the regular multi window functionality (with the sidebar), and the floating window functionality (which can be launched with the S Pen, or a Pen Launcher App).

Everything you are describing that the Note 4 does can already be done in Note 3 but maybe you just don't know how to do it yet. Are you referring to being able to open up Facebook in normal mode and then trying make it in to a floating window? All you have to do is have the Multi-Window option "On" and then drag, with either your finger or your pencil, from either top corner drag down and it turns into a floating window.
YOU CAN ONLY DO THIS WITH SUPPORTED APPS (Chrome, Facebook, Whatsapp, etc...)
You need a custom ROM (Like Phronesis N7 that has already been mentioned) to be able to do this with ANY app
Let me know if this answers your question. I am not sure why you think the Note 4 has something extra when it has the exact same features and the Note 3 Multi-Window features.

I'm afraid you're completely wrong. What you describing the Note 3 can't do. Another extra functionality the Note 4 has is that you can create a floating app if that app is in split screen mode. You can only get a floating app with the Note 3 by using the S-Pen Launcher.

Best of luck!
HI all.
I'm a new Samsung Galaxy Note 4 owner! Recently upgraded from a Note 3. Phones are years old but are decently priced and still good phones when you're not looking for something too fancy.
Honestly, the Note 3 was the best phone I've ever had and was looking forward to a Note 4 upgrade (was looking forward to the fingerprint scanner, even if not the best, and to the metal edges)
Now, I'd just like to ask for a few pointers on this device. Any custom ROM suggestions? Anything I should know about?
I am doing my fair share of research, I've been reading a lot of posts regarding this device, posts that are months old, posts that are years old and I've gotten myself a general idea of what to expect.
But I think even with all this reading, I probably won't be able to compare what I learn from these posts to someone that has owned a Note 4 for months, possibly years! Which is why I'm posting this thread, to ask those who have had this device for a longer time and will probably continue to use it for a longer time since this phone is amazing!
I just want to ask you Note 4 owners, if you bought a brand new Note 4, what set-up will you prefer? Custom ROM? Stock ROM? Any kernels you would flash?
I know the best ROM will always be stock ROM, but is there any worth-while N7 ports for the Note 4? I'm a big fan of the off-screen memo, the smart screen capture (scroll and screen-recording that records gifs) and also enjoy tweaking the kernel (overclock) for smoother game performance. I've also read that the most common problem with ports is the fingerprint scanner. I'll probably end up doing the work-around since no custom ROM has gotten this fixed (from what I read it's almost impossible without leaving a lot of the stock ROM's assets which defeat the point of a custom ROM).
Currently, I am downloading stock EQI2 6.0.1 which is the latest firmware for the N910T variant. I know that the T-Mobile variant has it's own forum but I usually see that the "Samsung Galaxy Note 4" thread is the most active and sometimes includes things for the T-Mobile variant (was the same case with the Note 3, the T-Mobile forum was dead and the international forum was alive and well)
It's running 5.0.1 software right now, hopefully 6.0.1 is better.
Thank you for your time!
I kindly invite you to try the unified trlte build linked in the [ROM] [UNOFFICIAL] [7.1.2] LineageOS 14.1 [SM-N910F/G/P/R4/T/T3/V/W8] thread.

Personally, I prefer to run the stock OS that comes pre-installed on my device and update the OS to the latest version provided by the manufacturer. As I know for a fact that Custom 3rd Party OSs do not have the best post imaging software. Which hinders the performance of the camera sensor on your device.

Been snooping around and messing with a couple of custom ROM's either with Note 7/8 features and S7 Edge/S8.
I really like the look overall to the stock Note 4 UI, but I seem to have a very bad luck with random reboots and some features missing (fingerprint) or not working (night clock).
I was really afraid my phone was doomed with the eMMC failure I keep reading about that plagued the Note 4, but I don't have any problems running stock.
Yup, I guess my motto came true. "The best ROM is always STOCK ROM", even if it looks a bit out-dated.
I'm currently running stock and a custom kernel I found for stock MM. I'm pleased with the results so far, just kind of wish I could boot straight in to camera with double HOME press
Best advice I can give you , owning the phone for 2,5 years, is to never use quick charge and never update the phone or flash custom roms while the phone is being charged.

I did read about it, I just wasn't sure what was the root cause for it. So I guess fast charge is the culprit? Every place I read this people seemed to blame an update either from KK to LL, or from LL to MM. Wow... I gotta think about this one. One of the reasons I love this phone over my Note 3 is because of the quick charge. Man :/
Gotta think about trading that feature in for... you know... a FUNCTIONAL PHONE

Every place I read this people seemed to blame an update either from KK to LL, or from LL to MM. Wow... I gotta think about this one. One of the reasons I love this phone over my Note 4 is because of the quick charge. Man :/
Gotta think about trading that feature in for... you know... a FUNCTIONAL PHONE

IMO the culprit was a heavy update(eg. from lollipop to Marshmallow) being installed , while the phone was pluged in being quickcharged.
This pushed the temperatures to exceed the max threshold of a bad emmc solder on the motherboard on some specific batches of the note 4.

So you think regular quick charge should be fine? The phone doesn't heat up with regular quick charge, so I really hope it's safe. I know that just to be safe, I shouldn't use quick charge. But I guess I'll roll the dice.
I updated from LL to MM via Odin, so it wasn't quick charging :victory:

In my case , my phone gets really warm while being quickcharged even if I am not using it at all.
I live in a warm place though!
If you want to use quickcharge , I suggest you go ahead and use it but without using the phone during the charge.

Yeah, I'll take my precautions. Thank you for your input
I have an exynos version so can't tell you much about the snapdragon versions (also never heard of emmc problems on exynos devices, the only problem I have is IR blaster stopped working some update ago and never worked again since), but here's little general advice :
Stock ROM is perfectly reliable and very smooth with little customization :
I recommend a package disabler app like EZ disabler to get rid of bloat. I disable anything that doesn't have a clear use for me . If something breaks functionality I enable it back.
If you don't want to root you can use adhel to block ads in very efficient way .
If you do want to root I recommend magisk . It's the best way to do it because if anything goes wrong you can just uninstall it and everything is fine again , it doesn't affect system partition.
Also system less xposed works great if you use the proper version . I love youtube background mod.
In my experience you should never use apps that claim to save battery like amplify/greenify etc . (In some cases they drain the battery even faster with their continuous background services) The better way to save power is to not install power hungry apps in the first place or disable them with EZ disabler . Also disable animations and just disable functions when you don't use them : Sync/Location /Bluetooth etc .
Last but not least : download and use Samsung game booster : it's amazing for our old gpus : you can lower resolution/frame rates to make games more playable and battery last longer .
These were my quick tips . Hope you enjoy your new phone !

The only small problem I have with stock is that it looks outdated. I know visuals are the least you should look for in a ROM, should be more worried about stability and battery life, but I simply can't deny that visually, stock TW UI bothers me.
But I guess I'll have to get used to it anyway since all the ROMs I've tried have issues here and there, but most importantly I get random shut downs and reboots with most custom ROMs and I lose the fingerprint scanner.
As for games, I heavily play a game called Shadowgun Deadzone. It's not that graphics heavy, but I need it to run smooth. I haven't tried Samsung's game booster, I've only messed around with custom kernels and changing the CPU governor, overclocking, etc... and it runs fine for a little while, but starts chugging after a few minutes in.
If the game booster can fix this, heck I can stick with stock ROM without any problems.
When you say it looks outdated
Are you talking about the launcher?
If so why not try the many other launchers out there? Like nova launcher..

A launcher can only do so much. I'm referring to mostly on things like the notification drawer, the settings and stuff like that.
