Help, battery life? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I am new to LG G2. I came from moto g2 and just recently got LG G2. The thing is that when the screen is off, no WiFi, no location services, no sync, etc the battery life is very good. I got like 90+ hours battery backup on a single charge without heavy usage. But when I turn on the screen and do something ie web browsing, the battery drops very fast, like 1-2% every minute or more than that. I just went back to 4.4.2 but still the same. Is it normal? Can anyone help?

For an unknown reason, G2 screen takes a lot of battery.
I heard google play services is the culprit.

My battery was really bad on 4.4 and I don't know why.
On stock lollipop I had 3,5-4 hours SOT with browsing and playing games

It's not normal, I get solid 24 hours with 5 hour SOT involving WiFi and 4G. One of them will be always on. I am on stock Kitkat, rooted.

Either your battery is shot and can't hold a charge well under load or there is some kind of software glitch. If your battery has more than 2 years of use it will need to be replaced. If it's software, TOT flash to lollipop, factory reset, update to latest ota and factory reset again. But it's most likely your battery - before I changed my battery, I got a few days standby but only 2-3hrs sot.

I have tried both LP and KK and there is no difference between them as far as battery life goes.(LP is better at everything else though...)

Fast battery drain when screen is on

Hi,
I have an LG G2 (for more than 18 months) which I really like (and still can't find a compact 5-5.2" smartphone to replace it with) but it seems that lately the battery drains quite fast when having the screen on.
Brightness is set at Auto + 50%, as always. The drain seems to be around 1% per 2 minutes. Screen is reported to consume about 50% of the battery. I don't think it would last more than 1.5-2 hours untill the battery drains completely. I noticed others getting like 4-6 hours of screen time.
I performed a factory reset and things look better overall but as soon as I use the screen the accelerated battery drain starts. I am using the 30b lollipop update, phone is 100% stock, no root.
Is this considered normal ? Should I attempt to replace the battery ? Is 18 month too much for it ?
Thanks !
Turn off the wifi when you are not using it. Whenever my wifi is on and connected my battery drains like crazy.
And i am rooted with exposed and power nap.
After i turn off my wifi my battery isnt draining at all.
Cheers

Thanks, but I always thought that Wi-Fi is much less battery intensive compared to the GSM data connection...strange.
Yeah it supposed to be like that, but our driver for wifi on lollipop is garbage
I'd recommend replacing the battery as well.
A healthy battery should produce the results you see others enjoy.
How is your performance with kit Kat and jelly bean?

My battery life is bad

I will try install many roms and in all the battery life is bad.

Remove all apps you don't need. Install wakelock detector to see what is consuming battery on your device Then disable them using greenify or servicely . You can also run this script http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/general/guide-reducing-google-play-services-t3139032 .
Remove extra bloatware , avoid using wifi , reduce screen brightness .. or go back to kitkat.
I would rather suggest to change your battery dude, 2 years for a mobile battery is more than enough.
Only apps was installed on my device is WhatsApp, facebook, Instagram and Greenify.
Yesterday I downgrade to KitKat and the battery very bad (Cloudy 2.2)
Same problem here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/help/lg-g2-d802-battery-draining-5-0-2-t3256313/
I also got bad battery life with all LG lollipop rom and stock kitkat , but I get terrific battery life with cloudy g2 2.2. Like 6.5 hours of SOT. Just make sure you clean flash and reduce background app by clearing recent apps.
Are there any apps that show the battery Wear level

6.5 hours?!?! Are you sure?
1.5 to 2 hours of SOT is the most I can get out of my two-week-old G2.
I bought is from a "mobile shop" on aliexpress.
Yes, it is refurbished... ,it looked like brand new on the outside.
... however, when I disconnect it from the charger in the morning (7 am) a few hours, and a few phone calls later it is already at 85%
at noon there is 65% left.
at the evening - somewhere around 22h - the battery usually dies completely ...
14-15 hours of usage on battery... NO games, NO Youtube videos.
Max 30 minutes browsing the news (on WiFi)... and an hour of phone calls (city center, so no problem with reception...)
When the screen is on (btw. I set it to 70% brightness) I can literally see the battery percentage indicator decrease every few minutes...
Looks like I got a phone with bad battery... didn't I?
I'm on KitKat (4.4.2 stock) D802 version...
I had this problem on my freedompop(sprint) "refurbished" phone. Even though it looked like new on the outside, I would only get 2-3hrs sot. After replacing the battery I now get more than double that. Factory reset, disable/uninstall the apps you don't need, and only install the apps you do need. If you still get bad battery life then the only option is a new battery.
Btw, a custom rom will NOT give you significantly better sot unless it severely cuts performance and lcd brightness.

Well if you are using kitkat then i must say you got a faulty or old old battery . G2 on kitkat is/was a beast , I can recall those days when i used to get 7+ hrs sot on kitkat . you should call or email to your seller and tell them the problem you are facing.
After sorting through potential power draining apps etc.. You could try a battery calibrator of some sort. I used one and a big difference noticed, however after it's fully charged in the morning I take it off the charger and leave it sit there for at least 30 mins without touching it and battery life is even better.
Thank you all for your answers.
In the mean time I installed this Battery Monitor Widget.... and it gives me some "interesting" readings:
1. my phone charges ridiculously fast. From 37% to 100% in 70-80 minutes... Connected to the charger at 00:04. At 01:14 it was already at 99% (This widget gathers info every 10 minutes)
https://goo.gl/photos/DDerdsk2mSdKipMt7
...and it charges with an insane amount of current (over 2100 mA)
https://goo.gl/photos/VJd7iUFMm5A4s3UeA
2. there are some kind of "spikes" in battery usage, but after a few minutes the battery seems to recover...
this is the battery voltage statistics:
https://goo.gl/photos/Uh96utz1aBJNV3qCA
So, It is more and more evident, I got a faulty battery...
Now, only if I could know where to buy a GENUINE LG battery...
Aliexpress is full of "shops" claiming they are selling "original" LG batteries, however there are quite a few negative reviews about them... (batteries are lighter, thinner, deteriorating fast... etc.)

10j Batter Drain on T Mobile variant

Every since the update my battery seems to lose a percent every 5-10 minutes the screen is on.
What gives?? Tried a fresh install and everything.

54% in the last 3 hours. This is noticeably different.
Have you looked into whats draining it? i.e. under battery settings or using better battery stats?

Nothing specific. Just screen for the most part and a little bit of chrome. I deleted messenger, and Facebook. Everytime I turn my screen on...By the time I go to turn it off after whatever activity I notice a percent loss.
My battery life has never been what I would call "good", but after the update it has been even worse. Wifi and location off, no facebook at all and screen at auto brightness. The battery seems to lose about 10% an hour and I'm lucky if I get to see 3 hours of screen on time.
I'm getting roughly 0.6% an hour when idle with 10j
T-Mobile. Best ever was 8h SOT with a few percent left in 10d. I am on 10j now rooted. Battery life seems worse but really it's not. Used to get about an hour screen before drops to 99% but now about 20mins. Just seems to measure battery better. This rundown so far was at work in downtown and I was on 41st floor most of the day. I am home now where my LTE is pegged full blast and I could probably pull down at least 5 more hours of this charge depending what I do.
I know it's not a solution in the sense its not solving whatever software is draining the battery but there are aftermarket battery packs for the v20 already that will make the phone last longer.
Zero Lemon specifically makes an excellent aftermarket battery pack if you don't mind the bulk.
I am waiting for a middle man battery pack that's larger than the factory battery but not as massive as the zerolemon.

consider providing more info like apps and other usage to assess/comment on your situation. i'm likely not the typical smartphone user (by today's definition), but i'm getting solid battery life for my uses/needs. i'm not the gaming type, no facebook/twitter checking or posting and mainly emails, texts, phone calls. below are screen shots from 1 moderate-to-high usage day (for me); 17 hours on battery, 7 hours screen time, 2 hours of calls, emails (75)/replies (40) 50 text messages, approximately 1.5 hours of screen time was web-browsing. will continue usage and make final keep/return assessment next week. as an FYI, this is a T-Mo G6 that's been sim-unlocked and being used on ATT.

Did you do a restore or a clean install of all your apps? Ive been getting consistently 6 1/2 hours SOT everyday for the past week. Pulling off the charger at 6:30 am and putting it back on the charger around midnight with right about 37-40% left. I did a clean install, no restores.

i know your reply was to the OP, just wanted to confirm that i reinstalled all apps from scratch via the play store as well - was quite painful as i would usually reinstall via TB or backup.

Yeah it was brutal but Im seeing most if us with great battery set it up from scratch. To me that's the best way to go.

Reinstalled from scratch. Android OS/System is what is eating everything on my phone so other apps arent really important.

As much as it will suck, I'd reset it and start over. It should have leveled out by now.

Today was my first day starting with a full battery. Regular use all day long: lots of texts, several phone calls, checking email, adjusting settings, you name it (but no gaming) - a fairly heavy day of use for me. Unplugged at 7:45 a.m. It is now 4:30 p.m. and I have 63% left. FWIW, I'm pretty happy with that.
Today was my first day on a full charge as well, I took it off the charger at 6:30 am and it had some light use throughout my day. As of me writing this post I'm at 51% which is okay but I feel like if it could be optimized a little better I would be super happy with it.
2 hours of screen on time
Seems like the "phone idle" is hogging..
Mine has been on par with my S5 so far. With this having a taller screen (the width is almost the same), I'd say that's pretty impressive.
It does seem a little unoptimized in certain spots. That is, certain processes may impact battery more than others. For example, geotagging. I turned that off because I felt like it was impacting battery. Bluetooth always stays on because I use it for file send and occasionally use it with my headphones when I go for walks.
Update, day 2 my outlook has turned around. I will post at the end of the day but with 1hr SOT I'm at 82% with an estimated 26.5 remaining. (And this was taken off charger at 6:45am.
Going on day 3 and today had some heavy use. Lots of camera use (video and pictures... Cameras are pretty awesome), texting, ton of taking and watching Snapchats and Instagram. Got up at 6am and writing this now with 52%. So far very happy and hopefully will last.
Well as the day rolls into a close I am suuuuuper happy with my results today. This is for sure my current favorite phone now and ideally as doze acclimates more to my behaviour it will keep getting better! Really loving the display though. Quite captivating to look at.
3hr sot (double yesterday's or so)
This is very disappointing.
I have the H870DS variant and I barely get 4:30h of SOT with 1h of voice calls at 15% battery remaining ( using mixed wifi and 4g )
I see that all of you have a high phone idle usage, higher that the SOT. Really this does not seem very good to me.
Having the OP3T, and using it in the same manner, I was getting 1-1.5 hours more that the G6. What is wrong with it ? For me it looks like a software problem
Help Pls

The same happens with mine LG G6. Based on battery stats it seems that the yop battery consumer is Android OS. Did you factory reset? It yes what happened?
Hi. I have lg g6 (h870) for now 3 weeks. Battery life for me is awesome!!:good: Previous phone was huawei P10. With G6 i have 2 days with 5-5,5 SOT. (with P10 i have 1 day with 4,5-5 SOT). G6 heavy use-26hours on battery i have easy 7-8 hour SOT. Stock FW,no root, V10u
No FB,messenger, instagram. Instaled samsung browser. Bloatware uninstal or disabled.

I would say that after sometime i discovered that if you factory reset and then if you do not update the LG apps through lg app updater the phone battery performance gets great!!! DO NOT UPDATE WEATHER AND OTHER LG APPS NO MATTER WHAT AFTER FACTORY RESET!
HELP - Only 3-3,5 hours of SOT :crying:
HELP PLEASE! I've had this phone for almost 2 weeks now and I can't manage to get more than 3, 3-1/2 hours of SOT. I use it almost all day with WIFI and screen brightness at an average of 40% or less all day. Phone idle seems to be consuming at least 15-20% of the battery, is that the problem? The other30-35% is consumed by the apps and 15-20% by the system.
Instead of resurrecting ancient threads why don't you read the ultimate battery thread, plenty of things to try there.

9.0.11 Battery Drain

Here are the stats:
Verizon
9.0.11
Not rooted
I updated yesterday and the battery drain is a crapshow. Fully charged since 9 am, and its 1:30 now and I'm 84%, with a 6 min screen on time.
I literally touched my phone 10ish just to check messages and text a few people.

Then do some proper measurements. With just your explanation we can't do much ...
Install a kernel. I get 10 hrs screen time with radioactive
Not seeing a difference with 9.0.11 on mine over previous versions.
As for suggesting installing a kernel on a non rooted phone :-/
I also have the same problem, when I was in 9.0.7 I was able to get as much as 13hours screen on time in 48 hours or 7 hours in 6 days. Amazing battery life. Updated yesterday and the phone cannot compare. It is draining as much as 10% over night.
I am stock, no root.
Yeah they fcked something up.
Also beta2 has issues with standby drain...
I've seen this on and off. Some nights latent drain is 3%, others it is 13% with almost no app usage monitored.
Maybe cellular draw? Tonight I'm going into airplane mode with WiFi on and see what happens.

Do you have any social media apps? 7 hrs of sot in 6 days without a charge is nuts even that 13 hours of SOT in 48 hrs is impressive. I've been nowhere near those numbers with my 6t

Ya it must only be possible to get that good of sot without those apps. Do you use any Google apps, I know that is another battery drainer which decreases maximum sot potential.

Yes, I use a lot of them, maps, Gmail, keep, calendar, etc etc.
Move to beta 2
Last night I let my phone on .11 sit idle for 9 hours in airplane mode with WiFi on. It drained 7 % over this time which is more than I used to see on build .07 with cell service on.
The odd thing is that apps are reporting very low usage (in total less than 1% of the battery overnight) so I need to look deeper. Phone is >95% deep sleep overnight.
Some nights low drain, some nights high, no pattern I have found.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A6013 using Tapatalk
.11 overnight (8 hours) on mine is currently draining around 3% over that period with everything on as normal.
I have experienced the same. But, after having .11 installed over a week now suddenly my SOT has improved to same level I had with .07.
I have read somewhere that since it is software controlled the system has to "learn" the most efficient way to handle, e g the option "Smart battery" (have that always on), and that process should take approx 1 week.
I do not know what's happens when I updated to a newer version. Maybe the system has to "relearn" again? My device is rooted, so I receive the full version on every update (no incremental) - maybe that also have an impact on the battery performance.
I do not say there lays any proof in this "theory", but my battery life is very good again (around 13 hours SOT/48 hours total). So in case you have updated recently, be patient for some extra days.
If I knew about this I would have stayed with 9.0.7. Let's hope they fix this soon.
Rebooted about an hour before going to bed, let phone charge to 100%. Unplugged. 9 hours later it was still at 98%. This was the first reboot in a while. Just a data point; previous night even with cellular off it lost lots more than that.

Suggest you to Wipe Cache from Recovery after a OTA update.
No issues here with .11
