Hi Guys!
My TyTn is acting strangely. In use, the display is first pixelating, getting lines (noise pixels as well), and then fading to completely white. When so it doesn't responde to anything anymore. So a soft reset is needed.....
Also the ringtone when called, is 'out of tune', like a old record player when you push your finger on the record.. LOL
Before I send it back to have it fixed by HTC, do you guys have any idea whats wrong, and maybe even a tip to help me fix this myself?
Tried numerous soft resets, hard reset, and a reinstall of the original WM6 rom (in Dutch).
Did not install any new programs lately, or did change anything on the unit...
Don't want to miss my TyTn... so hate to send it away... as many of you I am hooked badly to my beloved digital companion
Greetzz Antal
It acts like hardware incompatible.
How about flashing with WM6 English version.
I don't think it is software problem.
I agree, not likely to be software. It did not get dropped or take a knock did it?
The two issues of pixelation/white screen may, if you are lucky, just be a connector thats loose. The sound I think is unrelated but again sounds like a poor connection at the white rear speaker connector block - not uncommon.
Both of the above could be caused by a sharp knock. There have also been cases of poor battery connections causing problems.
If you have a warranty use it. If not you can follow the dismantling guides or service manual to dismantle - check connections and re-assemble. Be prepared though, that sending it in might still be required!!
Mike
Will send it in
Hi Guys, Thanks fr your replies.
I will take the unit back to the store today.
I am not aware that I bumped it, or neither it has dropped. May be a connection that was allready quite loose to begin with. Lets see what HTC and the store will tell me
Strange thing is, that without my sim in it, and not using it, it stays normal... Have put it aside, and used a very old phone instead, and it is still normal..

Mmmm... that's important information and changes things a bit. Could be a sim card contact or something about the sim. Anyway it tends to suggest that other thoughts about hardware issues may not be correct!
Hope you find the answer at the store.

Has anyone noticed that when u hold the phone when browsing internet etc, the signal level drops especially when holding phone near the bottom. many times my signal drops out. I know the antenna is in the bottom of the phone, but it was also in the touch hd and I never had this problem.
Anyone else have the same?
Interesting!
I hadn't noticed this, just tried it and your right!
Hold phone at top of device, 2 bars. Hold it at the bottom, 1 bar! That is sat in exactly same place in house.
Very interesting find mate.

I have noticed the signal drop when you hold it, i like browsing in landscape mode and sometimes i have to put it down to get signal back :-(
Could this be because of the metal battery casing? Bit worrying...
I put vodafone sim in and this happens. Put O2 Sim in and it's ok. Weird!! Gonna purchase a signal booster which is supposed to reduce static (or something) allowing better signal.. Off to ebay..
I have the same problem with my device and got calls dropped yesterday so i decided to report this to HTC. Here is the reply i received. Havent tried yet but you can give it a shot.
Regarding the low signals issue, please follow the steps below:
1-Go to: start>settings>menu>all settings>personal>phone>network>choose orange manually
2-enable the airplane mode: start>settings>wireless controls>airplane mode
3- Perform Soft Reset to the phone.
Soft Reset :
1. With your thumb or finger, open the back cover by lifting up from the left side of the cover.
2. The RESET button is located at the bottom left below the battery compartment and SIM card slot. Use a small object with an unsharp, pointed tip such as a toothpick to press the RESET button.
4-Disable the airplane mode, test the phone and see how it works.
5-Try another SIM CARD from another network
Thank you so much for using HTC products.
I got the same problem
reception is not good at all
I am using Nokia and samsung with the same sim signal level 3 or 4 bars
but with Leo only 1 or if you lucky get 2 bars!!
dissapointed
Normal
This is normal .
Antenna is in the lower part of the phone , that`s why !!!

That DOES NOT MEAN IT SHOULD EXIST ! ! !
This was also happening on the At&t fuze (Raphael), the Omnia i900 and the iPhone 3g.
It is very common in phones where the antenna is at the buttom i think.
I have to say that mine is the complete opposite. I get a significantly weaker signal both 3g/gprs and wi-fi if I hold the phone at the top! How bizarre.

Sony Xperia X1 does the same
Nokia N97 does the same
its just the way it is your hand must block the signal a little bit ive had both the above phones and they both have this issue.
if your so mad and say it should not exist then get in contact will all phone makers and ask them to sort it

The HD does not.
You can see the HD2 user manual on Page 10 Attached picture is below.

My girlfriend's Nokia 6650 consistently gets 1-2 bars better signal than my HD2 in my living room. In fact, my signal is so weak that I've been disconnected in the middle of a call twice now On T-Mobile (UK).
the radio on mine is the strongest i have ever had.
i get reception in places i never did before.
the is a restaurant i know where no one ever gets a signal... on any mobile or any network... i was sitting there browsing the net!

Agreed! My wife has a Nokia 5800 and always gets better signal strength than me(it was also the case on my G1) I think Nokia do better for signal strength than others.
Part of the "my wife gets a better signal than me" syndrome is related to the capacitance, and therefore conductive properties of each individual person.
Some people have very high natural levels, and others low levels.
The level of conductivity in a person effects their ability to act as an ariel themselves.
This can result in "blocking" the signal getting to the phone completely, or even amplifying it slightly.
This will vary from one person to the next.
If anyone has an oscilloscope, an HD2, and a bunch of people handy, they can test this for themselves.
Hey guys as soon as I notice this connection/data problem I decied to make a thread about it because this issue has been posted before but with little success on fixing it.
So have you guys notice that the signal of the HD2 will go from HSDPA or 3G to EDGE to GPRS and so on (sitting on the same spot) has this happened to you...?
I think that 99% of HD2 users have experience this. One of the the things that was causing for such a bad reception is also the 2.08.50.08_2 radio (in some areas) I live in L.A. California and I had that problem then the new 2.09.50.20_2 Radio seem to help out with this issue.
BUT!
That is not the actual problem, its not just software its actually a HARDWARE problem as well, Yup!
For you see HTC decied to put the Antenna AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PHONE not on the top. Almost 99% of the devices that receive some sort off signal (such as a radio or a phone) are made with an antenna ON THE TOP for obvious reasons, probably one of the reason why HTC decided to go through with this (even knowing that this issue would emerge) is because of the camera and the phone being so thin.
Check out the picture (the antenna is right under the batterie pins) so every time you hold your phone just around the buttons section at the bottom you are actually blocking the signal therefore making the connection go back and forward
SO WHAT'S THE SOLUTION?
Well one solution is...
You might be right on. My 1st gen iPhone had the antenna on the bottom and that would cause poor reception if you covered it up. There was even testing done to prove that was the case. It only had edge so it didn't bounce around like your HD2. BTW, I live in LA and have never had an issue with the 3G, as a matter of fact, I'm nearly always on 3G, I can't even remember the last time I saw E. I live on the West Side, maybe more towers around here, or I'm holding it "right"???
I personally think it's a combination of what you found and the T-Mobile network.
I think its more than just antenna placement. I have set my phone on the table and watched it go from H to 3G to E. The antenna is not covered up so there is some other issue going on. My coworker also has the phone and doesn't have the 3G issue. While the placement of the antenna could be part of the issue I think it can also be fixed with a radio update. I remember when I had the Wing I was able to boost reception with a radio update, yeah it shortened battery life but not by much. I'm hoping for a radio update that would make it a stronger connection.

-Exactly what item in that picture are you saying is "the antenna"?
-Can you please reference a link where you found that identification?
EDIT: A question for the others experiencing the "connection flipping" that this thread is about: do you ever notice the connection icon changing while you a have an "active" connection (i.e. when you're actually passing data), or only when the connection is live but idle? I'd like to add this to some other anecdotal evidence that a couple of us are looking at for a related theory on the cause.
Sorry to say, but it is not the antenna placement. My wife's phone gets 3G all the time and mine doesn't. I called Tmo and is waiting for a replacement.
I dont even get an H i only get 3g or edge im in los angeles but this makes sense.I doubt the antenna booster might work
guys, guys, it is not just an antenna placement problem as xeebot and speoples20 are stating is a COMBINATION OF BOTH I've been using the newest radio updated for one day and it seem to fix most of the Issue (haven't gone down all the way to E) like I said on my first post if you feel its the radio try the 2.09.50.20_2 Radio or the 2.7 they seem to be the most reliable ones.
if you still having doubts try covering up the bottom part of your phone with one or both hand and see your bars go down and sirphunke look at the attached picture that's where the antenna is, if you look thoroughly on the others you will notice the cable that hooks to the antenna at the bottom.

Uh....I am looking at the attached picture
Again, there's a number of components in that picture, and I'd like to know exactly which one you're saying is the antenna. The only cable I see in this shot is the one hanging loose in the middle right of the picture...and in the other pictures that cable can clearly be seen plugged into the side of the SIM card housing.
I've seen this same set of pics that was first posted here at xda, and I've seen all manner of other tech sites link and refer to these pics, but in none of them have I seen indiviual components identified/located...so I ask you again to please reference where you found your information, because as far I can locate these are the only component-level views of the inside of the HD2

Reference where i found this info!? Like I said on my first post IT IS SOMETHING I NOTICE!! (its right at the top) haha
There... I updated the pictures on the first post I think that's the antenna (because it resembles many other phones I've open myself) the top ones could be the speaker or the flash GPS or BT, so no room for the antenna. Now you get what I'm talking about??
If you want to confirm this just open you own phone or contact HTC as I'm not a tech and neither was I there wen they build this phone...
lol
Dear user,

At first I have thought that there are 2 possible reasons: bad network and hardware problem.
but as the recording sound is good, the cause should be a hardware problem with the phone.
To make sure, you can check the network quality by putting your sim card into another phone to see if the problem still there?

the recording sound is verry good.
i put another sim card into my phone en then i call to another, is the sound good.
and with hands free works it also good
Dirt/Dust in the microphone? That is what happened on my GS3, the sound was really quiet like i was standing far away from my phone so I stuck a pin in the mic hole and it cleared it out and worked perfectly after.
hi friend i noticed now when i put the brightness at low level my screen flickering but with the high brightness its normale and the screen is good...so i record the flickering with screen recorder to show if the flickring appear in the video but i dont see the flickering appear in the vedio...i have the latest firmware 5.0.no root...so what is the probleme how can i stop the flickering help me
This is something I've started to notice myself in the last couple of days on my device, G900F. I use auto brightness always, but when it lowers brightness sometimes for 1 or 2 seconds it will lightly flicker. But this is only like once or twice in a day, and usually only when I'm in a really dark room.
I will admit I have dropped my phone hard 2 or 3 times in the last month. Though with a gel case and glass screen protector. And my phone was bought second user. Made in 2014.5.6 so quite old too.
I am rooted running a debloated stock ROM. But I feel it's more hardware than software.

I confirm it's an hardware problem. If you record your screen,it's obivious that the flickering does not show up. Because you are recording the output of the GPU. And the GPU is not faulty, the LCD is. I did bring my S5 for the flickering problem to Samsung, and the refused to repair under warranty because of Knox 0x1. I live in Europe, and there is Statuatory Warranty, which they have to give. Now I am gonna sue them legally, let's see what happens.

I'd put my money on screen over motherboard. Though I only noticed this after changing from firmware BOJ1 to BOK6, but this may just coincidence or bad timing, and haven't seen it again personality since the other night. Your best bet is to either use manual brightness or an app called lux brightness control, and set the lowest value to one that doesn't cause the flickering. And save your money for either a repair or new phone.
Have you tried a factory reset? It's a long shot but worth a try.

No sorry think you misunderstand my talk. I'm saying your better off spending your money on a screen rather than a new motherboard, but with prices of second user S5 phones it may work out better to get another phone. Best to put up with it with the fixes suggested and save up for another phone if a factory reset doesn't help. Can see a repair being a costly thing.

How old is your phone? Have you used it a full brightness a lot? Or left the screen running continuously for long periods of time a lot?
Could be a fault or could be normal deterioration of the phone with age.
I'm not an expert so I could not tell you 100% what to do. I'm just guessing... If you're phone is less than 2 years old and your Knox is intact get Samsung to fix it. Otherwise just put up with it until you get another phone one day. A new screen or a new motherboard will cost you. Your going to have to pay for it to be fitted also.
Your recording is coming from the chips on the motherboard not what you see on the screen.

(android version/rom is not firmware) isnt the latest 5.1.1? are you saying stock samsung? i remember it had a power or battery option that did something to the display, when the option is enabled, the display is slightly darker, so try changing this option to see if flickering is different
i dont understand what kind of flickering either, from total black to on? or slight difference in brightness? or from your brightness setting to maximum? does it happen always or when certain apps are in use?
even if the motherboard has damage, you will not see it in the recorded video, the recording happens BEFORE it is transmitted out of the gpu driver, you should always record with another camera physically
