Problems with voice search and controller/gaming performance - Shield Android TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody!
I bought my Shield TV this friday for 160 bucks including the controller and the remote control.
But it doesn't work as flawless as I'd like it to.
First of all the voice search is bugging. When I search something via voice it gets recognized very fast but although I have already finished my question/command it won't take any actions. The microphone icon is still pulsing like it's still listening to my voice (although there is none). After some seconds I get told that Google is not available right now or that it didn't understand what I've said (although it did understand). Another few seconds later the result of the my question/command gets shown most of the time anyway (sometimes it doesn't deliver anything). How can I fix this issue? It's very annoying as my tasks would normally take no longer than five seconds including asking the question but with this issue it easily takes 15 seconds...
Another problem I have has to do with the controller and/or the gaming performance. The controller is lagging and has a delay while using it. It doesn't matter whether I'm using it in the system UI or during games, my actions just don't get executed instantly. It's not a huge delay (like a second or something) but veeery annoying nevertheless, especially during games. I tried Modern Combat 5 and Asphalt 8 and both games were not running as smooth as I expected with this hardware and furthermore the delay was killing the fun. Especially in Modern Combat 5 the delay while aming was awful. Additionally not all actions executed with the controller get sent to Shield TV so it misses some actions.
I'm very near to the console (two meters) and nothing is standing in front of it or something. So are there any fixes for these issues?
I hope I was able to make my points clear and also hope you have some solutions for me!
Greetings!

I have the exact same problem
It does that only when searching from the home screen, if i search within an app it works just fine.
When searching from home it just constantly listens

I'm french and i have the same problem. I found that if I switch the search language to English instead of french, I no longer have the problem. Not a solution, but it can be a usefull workaround.
Maybe other languages have the same issue.

Ha, indeed. I'm German and therefore had my language set to German.
When I switch to English the lag is gone and it's working instantly.
Is there anybody using Shield TV with another language than English without the lag?
Also I figured out the part of the gaming lag is drastically reduced when I have set my TV to its gaming setting.
It's quite strange that this improves the issue as there is no problem when using the remote control for Shield. Nevertheless I'm still not completely satisfied as I guess it has to work without any lag at all if it's working without lag when using the remote control.

So this is completely 100% your TV or AV Receiver. Basically the tv has a ~1sec delay from where Nvidia thinks it is. This is whyt TVs have game settings. your TV is doing processing of the signal to "improve" it. When in Game mode that does not happen. Don't blame nvidia it's all your tv.

But why is it working without any lag when I'm using the remote control?
As I said before, that's what I don't understand. Is it that much of a difference between the remote control and the controller?

The remote is bluetooth but the controller is wifi direct. perhaps something is interfering with the controllers wifi, especially since you say you are losing some commands.
Shut off your home wifi, plug your shield into a hardwire network cable(only reliable way to stream 4k anyway), try again.
My controller has zero lag.

MHL: Lag between phone screen and HDMI TV?

I had the note connected to TV last night and attempted to play Wind Up Knight with a Phonejoy - there is already lag using phonejoy on this game (obvious because the on screen soft buttons light up when pressed) but the connection to TV introduced a very noticable lag that made the game unplayable.
The weird thing is I hadn't noticed this whilst playing Medievil on FPSE.
Can't sayI'm overly impressed with the phonejoy as the analog sticks seem to work more like "zoned" digital controls rather than true analog.
Is this down to the MHL adaptor I've got?
It's one of the small box jobs with short micro usb lead and hdmi socket as opposed to the all in one leads that have the HDMI cable already built in.
Would a non stock ROM (i.e. Cyanogen) have any effect on HDMI lag?
I too get a good amount of lag when playing SuperGnes on my tv. Hopefully someone knows how to fix this.

Are you running GB or ICS? I've found that the HDMI lag has largely disappeared on ICS, presumably due to ICS's better support of hardware emulation on its dual-core chipset. Also, I used to use Phonejoy before I rooted my phone. Afterwards, I switched to SixAxis and I've found that the response rate is much faster than it was when Phonejoy was connected via Bluez-IME.
I'm running Samsung stock ICS 4.0.3 at the moment.
Samsung 4.0.3 seems very glitchy overall and appears to have introduced a new feature to my phone called "daydreaming"
Honestly sometimes it takes an age to snap out of it...

Audio lag with Bluetooth Headset

I have a terrible problem. I'm proud owner of some Sennheiser MM550-X Bluetooth earphones/headphone and have problems while watching movies from internal memory and external sources like streaming youtube or from my NAS.
The audio has a terrible delay of something around 1-2 seconds.
Makes me wondering. I thought nearly every device supports apt-x for Bluetooth audio... Seems like aosp based devices didn't.
I google a little bit around and seeing hundreds of posts from people having the same problem. It seems to be a known issue since ICS but it is still present in JB. Google didn't fix it.
The problems seems to be caused by the integrated chip which handles wifi and Bluetooth together. If both is enabled the delay is much higher... It also effects games and system sounds like the tick sound from keyboard etc.
It also looks like some devs found possible fixes for that. Think I saw a post on transformer Prime forums from team eos who might have fixed that.
Is it possible for anyone to fix this problem. Are there any Bluetooth drivers to play around with?
I also noticed the same issue on my HTC One X which is also tegra3 powered but it is not so hard like on nexus 7. On iPod and ipad I have no delay issues, which proves that this is an android bug.
For anyone with the same problems I found out that dice player from play store fixes that issue for me for watching videos. It also have the option to adjust the audio delay manually. But this is only for watching movies... The system sound delay still persists.
Thanks and regards from berlin

AOSP roms simply don't support APT-X. you need to use a stock rom on a phone that supports it (one-x, gsIII, note 2, etc)
So the problem is - you're not getting apt-x.

Android asking for update & Wii classic controller, sensitivity

Gonna try and kill two birds with one stone.
I downgraded to 4.1.2 . Now Android keeps making a message pop up asking me to update. Problem is, if I'm playing an emulator it will disconnect the bluetooth controller so it's a real problem. How can I make it stop?
My second issue. I'm using WiimoteController app, it works great on the emulators. Only problem, it doesn't connect sensitivity. It doesn't matter if you push it a little, it still goes full motion. Is there any way to incorporate so that the sensitivity is in place? Because it makes certain games unplayable without the ability to use t.
Thanks guys.

What's the Netflix fix?

Does anybody at Mad Catz have a thought on the matter? The hardware should be more than capable of running Netflix on a large screen without audio sync issues. Can you provide a proper app?

We're not seeing any audio sync issues here, and going by reports from other users neither is anyone else. What's your complete hardware setup and do you get any sync issues with other programs such as xbmc or YouTube?
I'm just waiting on HD Netflix...Quality on Netflix on MOJO is severely lacking. I don't have any audio problems (at the moment), but the video is very pixelated.
Streaming YouTube and other movie apps in 1080 or 720 works perfectly for me 85% of the time. I'm thinking my few issues with those is because my wireless router just reached 12 years old and is constantly dropping signal.....Going this weekend to buy a new one.

TV is an LG 47" LED 120Hz. No audio sync issue with YouTube. Haven't tried xbmc.

Actually, I was a bit hasty with my previous reply. My hardware set up includes a home theater sound system where the audio loops back through the TV. If I use the TV speaker, the lag is barely noticeable. If I turn off the TV speaker and use the amplifier, there is a very noticeable lag.

Yes, I was wondering if there was an amp in the loop, although the fact that it only does it for Netflix is a bit odd. Could you clarify though: are you connecting MOJO into the amp which then passes to the TV or are you connecting into the TV which is then passing audio to the amp (and, if so, what kind of connection? Optical? Phono?). If it is the latter then some amps have settings to accommodate for audio lag.

The MOJO is connected directly to the TV via an HDMI cable. Likewise, the amplifier, which is a Sony Model # STR-DH520, is also connected directly to the TV via an HDMI cable. I looked thru the manual and found a "SYNC ON" setting which delays the "output of audio to minimize the time gap between output and visual display" The delay time given is 60ms. I'll play around with it later today and see what impact it has. Maybe I had it on when it should have been off, or vice-a-versa. Thanks for the input on this!
I guess you're using all of the HDMI inputs on the amp already?

I will confess to having bought the TV and amp, etc., two years ago, and now I don't really remember what led me to make the setup choices I made at the time, but no, I wasn't using all the HDMI inputs on the amp, and frankly, I didn't even check to see if it had available HDMI inputs on the amp when I connected the MOJO. Connecting the MOJO directly into the amp and ensuring the correct A/V sync setting eliminated the delay completely. Thanks!

I have audio sync issues too. Audio seems to lag behind the video. And always when I watch netflix, the screen flashes, like gets smaller, idk how to describe it, often when watching shows. No matter what shows I watch it always does this. Probably 20 times at least throughout an hour long show.

If you've read this entire thread, you're aware my problem was similar to yours. I too had seen the occasional screen "flash" when watching Netflix. I'd recommend plugging your MOJO directly into your TV, using the TV's speaker, and eliminating any other hardware that might be in the loop in order to see if the issue truly lies in your MOJO, and is not being caused by some other component. Connecting my MOJO directly to my amp solved all my audio sync issues.

Mine is directly hooked up thru the TVs HDMI port. No difference if I have anything else plugged into the TV or not
And you're only using the TV's speaker? (rather than then output your TV's audio to an external speaker/amp?)
Are you running the 0110 firmware release and do you see the same issue with other video playback programs?

Yes, using the TV's speaker. My mojo came with the 0110 firmware release. Only Netflix has this issue. Have reset my wireless router to make sure that wasn't the problem either. Mojo is the only hardware hooked up to this tv.
If it would help, I could capture a video of what it's doing on my phone.

I no longer have any audio sync issues, but I do still see the occasional "flash" while watching Netflix. It looks like the image changes sizes for a fraction of a second. Haven't seen it with any other App.

Yes, that's the same problem I have with Netflix (along with the audio sync issues). It doesn't bother me enough to not watch it but it can be disorienting when watching at nite in a dark room. It does it a lot for me. I notice it the most when scenes change.
Edit:
I just got root tonight. I see on the Play Store that I can now update Netflix to the latest version. I will do that and get back to ya'll and see if that changes anything! As soon as I'm done downloading more games....
Ok, so last night I went out and bought a new TV for my MOJO. Picked up a 42" Sharp 1080p 120hz LED. I don't know if it's because this TV is 120hz compared to my 2010 32" Vizio 1080p 60hz, but the Netflix issue has been resolved. No more audio sync issues. I also noticed this TV has a Clear Motion setting, I have it set to on. Not sure if this has something to do with it either. Anyways, it's fixed, for now.
BTW, anyone looking for a deal on a TV of this relative size, it's a steal. Only $399 at Best Buy. The picture is awesome, and 120hz over 60hz is a night and day difference. Much more clear during on screen motion than my old tv. I'm very impressed. I can't imagine how good a 240hz or 480hz set looks like.
Edit:
Forgot to mention, the screen flashing/resizing is still happening. Very annoying. I really feel this is an issue with the app itself, hopefully it's getting fixed with an update. Can't wait to start watching in HD aswell...

Podcast Addict skips/stutters with screen off

I can't seem to find an answer anywhere to this and I am starting to think I am the only one with this problem. Basically when listening to a podcast at ~1.9x or faster the audio stutters and produces a static sound. Waking the screen immediately stops the issue. The issue gets worse if you increase the speed or enable the "skip silence" feature.
I made sure to disable any battery saving options for the app and enabled any workaround options within the app. I even contacted the developer who pretty much just said that the phone is governing the processor too low with the screen off. I have tested other podcast apps and they seem to function fine even at faster playback speeds. For some reason, this only affects Podcast Addict.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Anybody have a suggestion for a fix? I am completely stock OOS version 4.5.6. I have the 8/128GB model if it makes a difference.
Edit: So I have messed with it a little more. It seems to have issues even if the screen is on and the app is not in the foreground. Within ~5 seconds of being put into the background it begins to stutter.
I have the same exact problem. Happens wired and via bluetooth.

I recently updated to Podcast Addict beta and the problem is not as bad as it was (although still worse than on my ancient Note 3).
