Official ROM Updates vs. Debloating! - Galaxy S6 Edge+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
My last Samsung device before the edge+ was a SGSII (still working in the car as waze / GPS) and I am coming from a Sony Z3 / iOS.
While using iOS, I would get new updates from the iDevice itself and from iTunes. With the Z3, every time you plug the cellphone to the PC, PC Companion (Sony Software) checks for updates. In fact, I did all updates connected to the PC.
With the Edge+, how will I receive the info that there is a new firmware available? Should I install something on my PC?
Will the phone itself warn me about new updates? If so, does any1 know which packages should I keep from disabling with Packager Disabler Pro?
Thanks in advance!

In settings and about ,theres a software update bit. Click that and it will look for updates

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S2

The hottest smartphone in the earth is not posted in the XDA forum yet
Anyways, let me write up within Samsung S family.
I purchased the phone yesterday and it's awesome. I am from Xperia X10, followed by Xperia Arc. After using Arc for a week's time, I have switched over to SGS2. Honestly, the S2 is awesome. But truthfully, Xperia Arc is known for its beauty and design and good hardware & software support in my 1.5 years of experience with high end SE phones.
I installed Samsung New PC Studio, and when I try to connect my phone to PC using the given cable, nothing gets detected. I downloaded Kies, and try to install it in PC, and it does not get install. Quite frustrated. I tried to connect my S2 phone using MyPhoneExplorer, and that too is not detecting my S2. Never I had these problem in Xperia using PC Suite or PhoneExplorer.
I tried checking my Device manager in my PC, and I could see CDC and Samsung Android in yellow color. No where I am finding its driver too.
I want to get all my contacts to my phone. I don't know how. There is no SD card in my S2 as my internal memory is 16 GB. I believe, installing a SD card and placing my .vcf file will solve the issue, but I am hesitant to open that flimsy back panel of S2. Fear, it will break.
I updated my contacts in MyPhoneExplorer and also in New PC Studio, but cannot sync it as it is not detecting.
Having my PC Studio on, when I connect my Phone to USB cable, I do not get any notification wherein I can select PC Studio as they show it in demo.
Please help.
Hi
The Galaxy S II has it's own forum. You should look there for answers.

Another Update

Got a update this morning. I can see they updated the external storage with better control. Anyone see any other major improvements? The thing I find is funny is how they waited for a year to add many of the features that should have been included in the original box. The hardware is getting outdated already?
The hardware is fine. Not everything relies on specs. Sure there will be other devices that are faster with more features in the future, but the Fire TV will last as long as it can be used. Look at the 1st generation Apple TV, I can still use mine, and OSMC is about to be released that will add new life to a device that is "outdated". Also there are a lot of devices that get released that have features that are added later. There are tons of android TV boxes out there that never made use of their USB port, and even more that have ethernet ports that never ever had support added for them. At least Amazon gives us frequent updates and has gone above and beyond to make their closed source device bettter for the consumer. Its not so closed anymore. Even Apple just got around to fixing the wifi problem on the iphone 6 the other day. There are always things that do not work when devices get released. The N64 did not even perform as advertised unless you went out and bought an addon to the device when it was first released and it took them a while to add the part and sell it with the device. Look how long it took apple to give people the feature of sending and recieving multimedia messages, even though it had a camera you still couldn't send pictures unless you hacked your device. All companies do this and I am sure there are reason they have for doing this and it has nothing to do with the device not being ready at release time. I can think of more than 20 Android boxes that had features that didn't work that either never recieved one update ar at best recieved a couple updates, which never fixed what didn't work. Amazon is top notch when it comes to Android TV boxes, and making sure things work as they should.

Are you talking about version 51.1.5.0_user_515030720? What "better control" for USB storage are you referring too? The only difference I could find with this update was the ability to "favorite" photos.
Yes it is 515030720. I was only wondering what changes came with the update as I could not find the release note? My biggest thing has been external storage. I was happy they added finally. 20 gigabytes of games already on flash drive
So this is a new new update? As in, one update enabled USB drives and this is an update to that? I don't suppose this lets us move the extra downloaded data files to USB from the menu?
Out of curiosity, has anyone tried just moving an obb file or data directory to USB then linking to it from the original location (ln -s)?
edit: ln -s doesn't work. Is /sdcard fat32 as well???

Issue connecting to YoCam device (wifi issue?) with 6P, other android devices connect

So my YoCam camera arrived, and excited to receive my new kickstarter toy, I tried to connect it to my phone following the basic instructions.
Phone sees and connects to the device via wireless, but the app refuses to connect. However using other android phones will allow me to connect to the camera, using exactly the same process., so it does not appear at least at a basic level, an android or an app issue.
Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions, or can suggest some troubleshooting tools so i can get a better view of what is going on.
Thanks
Hi, Not that this helps: I have exactly the same but on a Samsung Note 3 running cyanogenmod 6.0.1. When connecting to my Samsung tab S2 with standard Android no problem.
Are you running a alternative rom on your phone or standard?

Samsung S7 mirrorlink support Appradio 4

Hope someone could help me with this. I have been using an iPhone for the last 5 years and in such I have a Pioneer Appradio 4. I am trying to see if I could make the android jump and purchase a S7 edge.
My Appradio supports mirrorlink as well as Appradio live which is garbage.
What I have been reading is there is no Mhl / hdmi support on an s7. However mirrorlink is available on the phone. Is anyone able to confirm that the S7 will connect via mirrorlink on my Appradio? I have been looking everywhere for an answer but most of the stuff is for the older galaxy phones. Sorry if I'm a bit ignorant to searching android stuff I've been chained to iOS and CarPlay for too long.
*Side question-- with Miracast do you lose all connectivity to cell data?
Thanks for all the help in advance
If your Pioneer Carplay head unit supports also Android Auto you can use this method for connecting.
Miracast doesn't interfere with the phone running data connections (wifi or mobile).
Unfortunately it doesn't support android auto. Which is pretty lame.
I dont't know about your head unit, but generally Mirrorlink should work also with the Samsung S7 Edge.
Thanks for the info now my only question is will it work with ARunchained reloaded once this is set I'll be ordering my Galaxy and getting off this iOS nonsense

For that app to work it's required to root the Galaxy S7Edge.
Anyway, if you're not used with Galaxy rooting, Knox and related possible Samsung warranty limitations, you can find these information on the forum. Moreover, to be able to root you need to buy the Exynos version, not the Qualcomm 820.

Okay good I found it on the website it has the exynos processor. Once it's rooted and I change everything I should be able to run this app then? I messaged Area51 hopefully he will message back regarding it. Thanks again for all the info and help.

Thanks again for all the info! Hopefully it works out well.
Yes it works
I can confirm you that Galaxy S7 works with mirrorlink and the AppRadio 4. The sound and video quality are simply perfect. I have been using MHL before with Sony Xperia and ARU, mirrorlink is better. The only issues are the restrictions that mirrorlink implements in the navigation, no recent apps none slide notifications, etc. Hope some friend could mod "Samsung Mirriorlink.app" to break freee these limitations but also in the current situation i recomend you to use mirrorlink with Galaxuy S7 because as I said, the stability and quality are just perfect.
appradio 4 mirror link
did u have to disable android auto?

so it will only work with rooting your s7 edge? if so how do I root my s7 edge? I to want to use mirrorlink with the sph-da120
I Just installed the SPH-120 and I can only get my Galaxy s7 to connect to blue tooth. Tried the developer mode with USB debugging, Switched to MTP configurations, and both USB ports along with multiple APPS. and I cannot get it to connect.
When I connect to the second USB port, Both the phone and radio attempt to connect but the phone screen shuts off and the radio says incompatible USB (original cable).
Hi how do you connect wich cables you use to get it working like you say?

I just created an account here so I can add a reply in case anyone struggles to get MirrorLink to work. I got an SPH-DA120 to work with my Samsung S7 Edge. I went through the same process of connecting the phone, seeing the connected message on the phone screen, and then the SPH-DA120 screen says "Incompatible USB." I thought it was an error but it was simply my failure to understand MirrorLink. You have to first get a certified MirrorLink app on your phone and then choose the home button (or whatever it is...looks like a Windows 7 start menu) and your certified MirrorLink apps will show up there. When you choose the USB/Ipod2 source the HU will always say "Incompatible USB." In my case I used RockScout, which then gives you access to everything on the phone by selecting a "Choose Source" option--that mirrors your phone's screen and provides a gateway to everything on your phone.
Maybe this process is common knowledge about MirrorLink but I spent way too much time googling this and trying random things to get the phone to connect. Something else worth noting is you need a high quality USB cable. The HU seems fine with USB extensions (even cheap ones) but it requires a high quality cable to connect to the phone. Some work, some don't. Not even all Samsung cables work.
One more thing...I actually contacted Pioneer's customer support to get assistance with this. To my surprise they replied to my initial email within an hour. That's impressive for customer support at a large company like that. Admittedly I figured out that the USB cable was the problem shortly after I sent the email but the quick response from them was nice.
Can somebody confirm if a non rooted Galaxy S7 can MirrorLink using rockscout while in motion using the 7000nex soft touch bypass? Trying to mirror every app and function while in motion using the nex. This includes YouTube, Google maps, chrome etc
Great information here. I just started driving a Jeep with appradio 4 in it . I have a galaxy s8 plus. Any advice what to do?
Still stuck with my note 8. Stock android Mirrorlink works but very limited. I tried with rockscout, button savior, LG mirrordrive app etc to screen mirror my phone but n way. The only fault is with Messenger pop-up showing nicely on my car screen. So I tried rooting my phone with magisk and hide my root but the Mirrorlink app is not working anymore. When connected to my phone it says authentification not valid... and the database is no more the same when I want to add some apps in pkgnames...
Hi,
I have problem with mirrorlink pioneer sph-da110 with galaxy s7 edge when I connet via usb I see mirrorlink in appradio. I click in mirrorlink then I see Lg Mirrordrive an I choose this after that I have dark screen and nothing else happens. Somebody can help my where is problem?
