How easily does the screen get scratched? - X Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've just purchased the Moto X play and I'm very happy with my decision. I've always used tempered glass but for some reason I can't find one that fits the whole screen due to the curve.
Those with no screen protector, has the screen scratched at all?
Thanks for any input

No scratches in almost 3 months of use. I just avoid putting it in the same pocket as my keys.

Very much resistive to scratches. No problem in not using a tempered glass.

i got scratched on my moto x play screen ,what i do for earise it .

Had mine just over a week and have managed to scratch it!! I had a nexus 4 for three years and never managed any scratches! Don't know how I did it, I'm always careful, phone is always in a pocket by itself. There are three long but very fine with one more prominent than the rest that is visible while using the phone in bright sunlight. Luckily I'm not noticing it indoors or in other conditions. I have now put a screen protector on which seems to be reducing the effect of the scratches.

its very easy to scratch a glass. put a tiny speck of sand on it and apply a bit of pressure.

No Screen Protector

Hi all,
anyone not using a screen protector? how is the hardiness of the glass? is it scratch resistant?
thanks!
i got the phone the 1st day it came out at t mobile and haven't used a screen protector since and i think the screen is pretty good i've only put it in my pocket once though. the screen looks just like when i bought it.
I have went a week without using a screen protector and I am just fed up with the smudges on the screen and I am going to just buy the Invisible shield and hopefully have it by the weekend. They are amazing products.

how long has the phone been with you? so it has no scratches and you dont use a pouch? im using a screen protector but im quite getting fed up with these things.
check this out if you wanna see how durable the screen is ..... I am just getting fed up with the smudges and want something besides a silicone sleeve for grip.

the glass screen is durable enough. i don't think you need a screen protector. you will probably break it before you scratch it.
Had the HTC rep come in my store today. He saw i had a screen protector and laughed. He was like you should know better man you dont need a screen protector. He grabbed my store keys and began to grind them on his screen with a fair amount of pressure and not one scratch i was impressed.

seriously? yeah i also sent them an email regarding why it has no screen protector, this is my 4th htc and all of them came with a screen protector except this one being their flagship phone and huge screen. they did say it is scratch resistant and no screen protector is included and needed.

Does the stylus scratch the screen?

Does the stylus scratch the screen?
Do you guys think that a screen protector is necessary or advisable?
And if it is advisable, will it affect the stylus and finger performance?
interesting question, as the current word on the street is the Note doesn't have Gorilla Glass...
i doubt it would though- but that's only my assumptions..
as its Anti-scratch resistant screen .i don't think the s-pen will scratch the screen but it more like in long term it possible when you put in your pocket with coins or keys , that would scratch the screen it i think.
my old phone was anti scratch screen too but still got few scratch on it from the house keys and coin in my pocket
ps btw i am using the note without screen protector.
I've always gone naked on my phones; no screen protector and no case. I can't stand the extra bulk/film. Even back in the days of windows mobile 5 and 6 with HTC phones that had PLASTIC screens that actually deformed under the stylus pressure, I didn't have scratching issues. I've always kept my phone in my left pocket (upside down with screen facing leg for quick and easy retrieval in the proper position) with NOTHING else in the pocket.
I've never understood the screen protector thing. For the most part manufacturers make the screens much harder and more abrasion resistant than any plastic film you'll find in a screen protector. I saw a guy yesterday using some Verizon droid with a screen protector that was scratched and foggy, and all I could think is "WTF, he wants to protect his screen so it doesn't get scratched up, decreasing visibility and looking ugly, yet that's exactly the experience he's receiving!" Lame. Sometimes people need to think about the big picture. If you're going to sell your phone in a couple months and are paranoid, that's one thing, but otherwise I think they're a total waste.
I still have the factory protective plastic sheet over my screen and my stylus works fine. I'm waiting for my screen protector to come in the mail before I remove the factory plastic.
I have always used cases and screen protectors on my phones. When it came time to sell my old phones, they are still in immaculate condition, like the first day I bought them. I am always able to get the maximum resale value out of my phones.
I think screen protectors is a good investment if you want to maximize the resale value of your phone
I have a screen protector on my note and it doesn't effect the performance of the stylus. It also doesn't leave any scratches on the screen protector so I am guessing it shouldn't leave any on the screen as well.
Overall performance , it's great and loving every minute of my new toy.

If you put it on right, you can't even tell it's there. You wouldn't be able to tell that I had a screen protector on my captivate unless you looked at the edges, no fog, no bubbles, no dust.
The thing about screen protectors is... if you DO get a big scratch, you are scratching an inexpensive easily replaceable component as opposed to the expensive and very difficult to replace pane of glass fused to the LCD and housing.
Even though Screen Protectors can prevent the screen being scratched, it does also make the screen look less vibrant.
all my previous phones i had screen protector on but i decide that i go without on the note this time ^_^
ps. i just put 32gb card in and loaded ton of movies on it. oop sorry out of topic, lol
I was going to ask whether the seemingly strong screen would hurt the thin plastic S-Pen.
I never used a screen protector on previous phones, but I just ordered one for the Note. After only a couple of days use, I have several noticeable scratches on the screen - I would say that it scratches easily (these scratches are not from the stylus, haven't even used that yet).
I would think that the pen would suffer in sensitivity with a screen protector.

I ordered one of these from amazon yesterday:
Vikuiti screen protectors CV8 (quantity: 2) for Samsung Galaxy Note - PREMIUM QUALITY (ultra-clear, scratch-resistant, high adhesiveness)
Vikuiti is the strongest and best true clear screen protectors around from what I have read - I will report here when I receive my shipment.
took my note yesterday play a fruit ninja with stylus... whole screen protector get scratch..
To those who have installed a screen protector, have you guys noticed any performance loss with the stylus?

Paper's never a good thing to use for wiping clear stuff (phone screens, glasses, etc.) Wood pulp, which they use to make the paper, contains tiny bits of silica which will scratch those types of items. The scratches may be very small, but will build up over time. Fabric is always a better choice; the inside of my t-shirt is what I use most of the times on my sunglasses and phone screen.

I manufacture cases for phones.
But before then and now I don't use cases, and beat the living daylights out of my phones.
This makes me financially stupid, and you smart (no sarcasm, truly).
However, I'm perhaps living a more chilled life.

Scratches on my screen

Hi,
I put my phone in my gf's purse in a pocket just next to her earings (which I had not seen obviously) so my z2 screen got now a very obvious scratch that I would like to remove.
I can't feel it with my finger but it's still visually very annoying.
I tried the toothpaste but didn't do anything.
Would you have any product to recommend?
Thanks for your help!
Damn, thought the screen would be more resistant than that : ( Guess it's not as solid as Gorilla Glass.
Apply a screen protector, it normally helps hiding scratches
I highly recommend grabbing a glass screen protector (Nillkin on eBay is pretty good). It'll hide the scratch *and* feel great.

Yeap...
I'm using Nillkin tempered glass on all my devices and it's awesome.
First thing when I'm buying new device is ordering Nillkin TG.
I still have one I applied on Z1 and it's just like it was the first day.
I'm cleaning my devices by showering them and washing them in water so that's pretty awesome protector which could take all that and still stay proudly on screen

Metal should not scratch the screen.
Sand, glass or any other kind of silicon will though.
I had Nillkin Tempered glass, it couldn't apply/align properly. One edge was not good. Got angry and broke the glass lol. I'm totally OCD about screen protectors.
I generally do not use screen protectors, because even if they are immaculate when you put them on, they quickly become less so. The cure is worse than the disease. The only way I'd use one is if I was very very concerned about resale value and did not care if my display quality was impacted.

Screen protectors vs tempered glass is a world of a difference. Tempered glass does not show signs of scratches or air bubbles unlike normal screen protectors. They also dont hamper touch sensitivity and save the screen from the various damages we might inflict otherwise..

You can try Glass4M or iTop Tempered Glass.
iTop is quite hard to find but it's verry popular in my country. The screen protector fit perfectly and cost me about $10.

Gorilla glass is a bit of a joke isn't it?

Apparently this stuff is indestructible, however I've never dropped my phone, never put it in a pocket with any coins or keys etc, it's always by itself, yet I have two sizeable scratches on my screen.
Anybody else having this issue?
I've scratched every gorilla glass phone I've own. Most of the time it happens when I just have my phone in my pocket.
People underestimate the capabilities of dand particle. That is actually the real horror. This is why i have used a screen protector on everz device ive owned after my htc one x. Onthe n4, g2 and g3.. Not willing to risk scratches im rrally picky about that

My LG G3 the screen scratched within a week very awful, Gorilla Glass fail
My previous HTC Droid DNA is completely scratch free after 18 months of use. Gorilla glass win
My Galaxy Nexus (non-gorilla glass) was a joke, scratched and cracked in the first month.
My Motorola Droid X completely scratch for 2 years, until the day it hit concrete for the millionth time and the screen shattered. Gorilla glass win
My OG Motorola Droid No scratches no cracks. Gorilla Glass win

I totally disagree with your point. Whether its gorilla glass or not, the glass has to come to contact with something to get scratch on the surface of glass and in your case gorilla glass without you aware of it.
Yup, I always end up scratching it with normal usage, but I don't mind anymore, I don't like constantly trying to pamper my phone haha

Never scratched a phone screen, never buy screen protectors.
I took a fork to the Droid X screen and tried to scratch the screen with all I had. There were very slight thin lines but the screen looked great for the most part after such abuse. This was the original strength gorilla glass. None of my other GG phones have had scratches. I've had a good experience with them.
I have never used screen protectors and my previous device was s2 which I had it for 3 years without even a single scratch
Needless to say I'm so careful and I don't even let my screen get dirty by touches and leave it for a while. Because I don't like the feeling of touching a dirty surface.

Gorilla glass is basically polycarbonate plastic. Polycarb scratches easily, as anyone with modern glasses will attest to.
But in my experience, the scratches are very faint.
I've got a deep scratch. Only had phone in pocket. Not great.

Rubbish
I always use a screen protector. Considering their cost and what you risk if you don't use one (irreversible damage) I don't see any valid reason to not use one.
Mine has severe erosion from a simple smooth cloth protector that that a little fold in it. And that after the first week with light usage (just work and home where it just sat on my desk).
Never seen such a bad glass, the old S2 has survived much much worse and still has a flawless screen.

No one ever said gorilla glass is indestructible. I'd say 50% of people, android or iPhone user, I see havw cracked screens or huge scratches
Why first thing I always get is a tempered glass screen protector, and I try to have one put on before I even leave the store.
I can attest to the tempered glass screen protector. . Had it on my Note 3, my little kid threw my phone against the wall, glass screen scattered but the phone screen was perfect. Replace the glass screen protector and you're good to go
Don't understand why more people aren't using tempered glass screen protectors

I keep my phone in a pouch/sleeve - cause i hate cases, keeps it well protected.
Do you by chance wear a diamond earring? I ended up with a scratch on my S4 after my gf used it one night with hers in.

LeEco Pro 3, anyone using it withou ANY screen protector?

The stock screen protector is rubbing off so I replaced it with a new one.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N3ZTMLG/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Unlike the stock one, this one is the hard glass. (the stock one is a film).
The problem with this screen protector is that it is a grease/finger print magnet. Ususally I can remove the grease/finger print from the screen by rubbing it on my shirt. With this one, it just moves the finger print grease around. No my shirt is not greasy because I tried it on another phone and it didn't smear the grease around. The only way to get a clean screen is if I use a micro fiber clothe with some water. Also I noticed that my screen is not as bright as before with the new screen protector, especially when using it outdoors.
I was thinking about remove the screen protector all together. Since our phone has Corning® Gorilla® Glass 3, it "should" be fine. But before I remove the new screen protector, just wondering if anyone is going bare on the screen and if they have any issues with scratched screen.
Thanks
I haven't had any screen protector on my phone since october. Screen is fine, although I haven't dropped my phone.
I have been using the same screen protector which i bought from aliexpress and i can feel the brightness problem but i am fine with it since this tmp glass removes entirely the ugly black borders from the phone.
I dont know if there is a good color tempered glass which does both.
Just removed the aftermarket screen protector today and going bare. So far it seems fine and resistant to scratches as well. It feels a lot better than the stock screen protector or the aftermarket one. It is a lot brighter and really smooth. Another thing that I noticed is that it is a lot more sensitive to the touch.
Never used any sort of screen protector on my phones. Never a single scratch.
As long as you do not put any other items in a pocket with a phone, it should be fine.
I have tried 3-4 different screen protectors and none of them seem to stick properly. They never want to stick on either (or both) the left and right sides of the screen. idk what the issue is but I've never had that problem on other phones
I'm too afraid to not use any screen protector. The camera lens scratches so easily that I don't trust the glass at all.

It has been a week now since I removed all screen protector and I am happy that I did it. It feels so much better and I can say that the gorilla glass on this is legit. I work in a warehouse and I have my keys and a box cutter in my pockets. I try to keep them away from my phone but when you are moving fast, sometimes the box cutter ends up in the same packet as my phone. So far still no scratch on the screen.
I'm still keeping mine, even if reflects everything because on my old phone covered with full cover, front and back, dropped on a corner of the screen, the screen protector took the fall and broke instead of the actual screen. So better to be cautios.
Mine came with a screen protector (X727), but I ripped it off very quickly. I haven't broken a single smartphone yet.
No screen protector since day one. No case either. Dropped it few times and cosmetic glass around camera cracked. Front screen is pristine, which is surprising since I am not careful with it.

Found these cases on Amazon that provide screen protection. I have used similar cases on other devices and have had good luck in preserving the screen without the use of a screen protector:
kw mobile canvas case
kw mobile cover shell case
Never used any screen protector on my smartphones, since my first Sony Ericson P800 years before the first iPhone were released...
Never broke the screen, had a few small scratches on some of them (not all though), and I usually keep my devices for 3 to 4 years. My previous phone was a Samsung Note 2, the screen is still perfect.
I will not put any screen protector on my Le Pro 3 either...
I was using the stock screen protector which was preinstalled until today. Sand scratched it so I removed it.

Same problem for me.I think its because of the curve of the screen
I got the full coverage one from aliex, no problems with adhesion, but it's an awfull magnet for smudges and fingerprints, and dulls the colors of the screen, gonna run it a few days just for kicks, but I'll remove it for sure.
And oh, havent had a screen protector, not since day one, and no problems, not a scratch on my phone (I do take care of my gadgets though)
