Anyone having issues connecting to wi-fi networks on channels 12/13? On my device I'm unable to see SSIDs in these channels most of the time. Sometimes I can see networks in channel 13.
Am engaging with Google tech support, so will keep you posted.
What country are you in?
UK
I seem to be the only person on my street that knows channel 13 exists. No issues for me connecting. Although I run my phone to my 5Ghz connection normally, I can connect to my 2.4Ghz if needs be.

Good good.
I'm wondering whether it's down to me not activating the SIM in the phone as yet? Like a double check that the phone should be allowed to use 12&13 (rather than just selecting English UK as the language).

There's really no difference in using that over channel 11 in your case with the co-channel interference.
YES!
It's not just me then. Home router (2.4Ghz) is on ch.13 and when i return home the device will not auto-connect until i toggle wifi off and back on again. Wifi works fine until i leave again. connects fine to my wifi network at work but that is different channel and on 5Ghz too.
RMA'd my device and the new one was bad. Wouldn't see my network at all, but wouldn't register my Sim card either so I have just returned this replacement device. Replacement number 2 is on the way.
I switched to ch.12 and the same thing happens at home. Didn't try any other channels as they are too noisy. So I wonder if this is a software issue? I'm in the UK and the router is made by technicolor for Plusnet.

If channel 11 is noisy, then so is 12 and 13.

You might want to change to channel 11. With the current setup you are not only killing your own data rates, but also the rates of everyone on channel 11. These channels are not supposed to overlap, because that creates interference. Switch to channel 11.
This is my WiFi situation. I'm normally on CH.13, but switched to 12 as a test.
My 2nd unit arrived last week, and unfortunately it's the same issue as before - no channels 12 or 13, not even visible. I'll be back in touch with Google today.
Hopefully this is a software issue rather than Google/Huawei spec'ing a duff wifi chipset.
Google spoken to and basically it's a case of tough-titty - some devices aren't going to work with channels 12 & 13.
For anyone else reading this, I had this problem and 'solved' it.
If you find that you can't see channels 12 and 13 then it's almost definitely caused by the Wifi country code restrictions.
I got my Nexus 6P here in Korea and initially tried it out with no sim card. Even though the location is set in settings, without a sim card it doesn't get the wifi country code set, and I couldn't see those channels. As soon as I inserted a Korean sim card, I was able to see them.
If you are in the UK or elsewhere, using a local sim card and you can't see those channels then chances are either your country doesn't allow it or the code is already set. Either way, your options are just accept it or try one of the 'not officially supported' ways to getting around it. That's likely why Google said you were out of luck. It's possible but involves rooting etc. I think. Just search for 'change wifi country code android'. Good luck.

I am afraid that the issue is not as simple. I also have problems with channels 12 and 13, however my phone can connect to those channels, but only for a while. I quote the report I filed in the AOSP bug tracker (not yet assigned, though):
Before I continue, I am based in Switzerland, use a Swiss mobile provider (Swisscom), and I bought my phone through Google in Switzerland. This is relevant because in Europe 802.11b/g/n channels 12 & 13 are allowed, while in the North America they are allowed only under "low power conditions" with the effect that, AFAIK, many devices simply do not support them. My Nexus 6P however should (and shall) support those two channels.
Now, the problem.
I have two access points at home, both in the 2.4 GHz band: one on channels 4+6 and the other (normally) on channels 12+13. What I noticed is that my Nexus 6P would initially connect to the strongest signal independently from the channel, as expected, but then after a while (a couple of hours, maybe) would just stop seeing the signal on channels 12 & 13. Not just my own WLAN, but also neighborhood WLANs on the same channels. This means that the phone can be sitting a couple of meters from the AP in my office (channels 12+13) and be connected to the AP at the opposite corner of the building (the one on channels 4+6). I checked with "WiFi Analyzer" and the phone really does not see any signal above channel 11.
Disabling and re-enabling WiFi will make the phone see channels 12 & 13 once again. However after a while the problem appears again.
At home this is just an inconvenience: I moved the frequency of the second AP to a different channel and that "solved" the problem. On the other hand this might be a much more serious problem when I am in an environment where I can't change the WiFi settings. Maybe I want to connect to a public hotspot broadcasting on the "wrong" channels or I am at the office in an area covered by APs on channels 12 & 13. Tough luck.
Incidentally, I saw at least one report of someone who had exactly the same issue: he had to disable WiFi and enable it again to get the phone to connect to his WLAN (on channel 12 or 13, I can't remember). I also have to say that in our household we have a few other Android devices (2 x Nexus 7, 1 x Nexus 9, 2 x Nexus 4, 1 x Moto X Play) running either 6.0.1 or 5.1.1 and a few other devices (iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, laptop, 2 x Kindle) and none exhibits this behavior. It seems to be specific to the 6P.
I suspect that after a while the WiFi driver simply reverts to its default regulatory domain ("US", I assume) and stops listening to channels 12 and 13. Why it might do so is anyone's guess. Maybe doze interferes with the driver.
Same problem here. The only way to reconnect to WiFi channel 12 or 13 is to manually switch WiFi off and on again on the 6p.
I'm in Hungary.
Guys, there is a thread in the Nexus Help Forum and I reported the issue in the AOSP Bug Tracker. Add your contributions to those threads and star them. Let's try to bring this to Google's attention, otherwise we will never get any action on this topic.
Edit: For some reason I can't add links to the post. Please search issue 197106 ("WiFi 2.4 GHz channels 12 & 13 not working properly on Nexus 6P running 6.0.1") in the AOSP Bug Tracker and the post "My Nexus 6P can't connect to Channel 12 or 13 WIFI's" in the Google Product Forums.

I have been trying for a week to extract some information from Google and Huawei, but I must say that their support just doesn't know anything about this issue. It's even difficult to get someone to understand what the problem is: one Google support guy thought I was talkng about LTE channel 12, for example. Huawei support started talking about options in the WiFi settings that are not there, then they wanted to guide me through adding a new WLAN, and finally started clutching at straws, giving more and more fantastic explanations of why it might be so.
Bottom line is: nobody I talked to ever heard about this issue.
I would really like to understand if it could be a hardware issue (which I honestly doubt) because my RMA window is closing soon and I don't honestly know what to do: apart from this WiFi issue my 6P is absolutely flawless and I do not want to risk getting a new telephone only to find out that WiFi still does not work as expected and it's also got other issues. (And, yes, something like this already happened to me.)

Did you call the Google Store Support? I hope that if they hear the same reports repeatedly they will take notice.
If your telephone is unlocked (and if you are on XDA chances are it is), flash Franco's kernel. I did it today and now my problems with WiFi are gone. Plus Franco's is known to be very battery efficient. It's a win-win situation.

After flashing CM6.1 I got the notorious wifi connectivity issue that numerous people have been reporting around the web. The issue is the following:
1: Wifi discovers neighbor's AP but no longer home AP.
2: Wifi problem randomly fixes itself, but sometime comes back and home AP can't be found again.
Many random solutions on the web include removing all stored AP's on the phone, resetting the router, rebooting and power cycling the phone numerous times, etc. Most people report that wifi miraculously start working again after the above but there is no consistency to exactly why and what works.
I tried all of the above with no luck, and even flashed three different roms with different kernels, did wipes, formatted everything inculding boot partition etc.
Here is the ACTUAL problem:
Different regions use different wifi channels. North America uses the first 11, most of the world uses 13, and Japan uses all 14. After flashing CM6.1 it changed the regulatory domain on the phone to only scan the first 11 channels meaning my European router broadcasting on 13 wouldn't show up. This setting seems to be persistent and doesn't change just because a new rom is flashed.
The reason people report the problem to be randomly fixed after a few days (and sometimes coming back days later) is because most routers automatically select which channel to broadcast on and therefore might end up within the first 11 at occasion. If it changes to something higher after that however, the problem is back.
Solution:
Open Settings, Wireless & network settings, Wi-Fi settings. Press "Menu" and select Advanced. Press regulatory domain and change to 14 channels.
To learn more about this and understand which channels are used in which countries, look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels#2.4.C2.A0GHz_.28802.11b.2Fg.2Fn.29
Thanks man, even I still met an issue which was wifi disconnect frequently (usually after 12 seconds or less, it's re-scanning AP and trying to re-connect again) when I was trying to share my broadband internet from laptop to my legend.
BUT, after I update my wlan driver (now using 8.0.0.238 for my Atheros AR5XXX), the issue seems gone.
I found that by updating wlan driver to the very latest driver (for mine is 9.2.0.xxx) is not a guarantee to resolve this problem.
Now, by combining your suggestion and an "appropriate" driver version for my wlan, it work flawlessly until now
PS: driver version which will work varies from devices to devices. Do trial and error if you must
edit: well, not 100% gone, but much better . the connection is far more stable
Could be a problem for some but not all the issues with WiFi. I knew about this and even posted one or two times this check for the number of channels in different other topics as a possible solution. Still there are times when the connection to the "home" AP is done very late after entering in range or switching on the WiFi and the signal is changing from none to full and back frequently, for the same relative position to the router (I'm standing in the same place). Also even if the signal is full or good, the Legend seems not to have Internet connection that is, the weather updates or XDA applications or browser could not connect. This is still happening even if the selection for the number of channels is correct. And also this is not happening with a stock ROM, I made some comparisons between my Legend and one of my friends that has stock ROM. He is having full signal and excellent browsing experience while I have random disconnects or drops in signal level. My thought is that the difference between drivers made by HTC and the ones in CM ROM is the cause. As it is with some other HTC proprietary developments (like Flash implementation or FM radio), could be that HTC spent some more development time in eliminating bugs and making a better driver.
Of course, this will not stop me use CM ROMS, it is a little bit frustrating, but the other things in CM ROM's makes the difference for me.

I think you're right. Yesterday, I tried my friend's phone (which has a stock ROM), using the same AP and there was no dropped signal or disconnected in wifi. I also tried using other android phone brand (5 series from samsung) which also has a stock ROM and there was no problem at all. Drivers is the culprit
Work
Thanks u very much.worked on my milestone
Thanks. Actually worked.

Hello Rapier,
I have installed the CyanogenMod 6.1.1 (stable) on my HTC Desire (GSM / France) with latest radio image (32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27) and taken some time to configure it. Now, everything seems to run well ... excepted the WiFi (and perhaps also the GSM). My problem is exactlw what you have described:
- on stock ROMs, the WiFi signal is stable and quite strong
- on Cyanogen ROM 6.1.1, the WiFi signal fluctuates, the connection is unstable and gets lost.
I like CyanogenMod ROMs very much. The WiFi issue is the only thing that I was not able to correct. You were speaking about WiFi drivers: would it be possible to extract the WiFi drivers from the latest HTC Desire stock ROM and copy them into the CyanogenMod installation?
My impression is that the CyanogenROM is scanning for networks in the background, even if a stable and strong WiFi network has been found and is currently connected. Perhaps there is a possibility to disable this scanning?
To finish, I have also the impression (I know, this is not very scientific ... but perhaps it could help to determinate where the issue comes from) that the GSM network is also fluctuating. I use WiFi Analyzer (available on the Android market) and when I plot a graph, without moving the phone or even without moving myself, the plot oscillates between -80dBm and -30dBm (I swear that there is nobody playing with the on/off button of my ZyXEL router ).
@sz1a: Thank you very much for your post: this helped me to discover these "hidden" settings, but my configuration is manual on the ZyXEL and everything was fine. Perhaps you should switch the thread to "unsolved".
I'n not a developer, only an ethusiast with a Legend. Also I'm not a Linux expert so I can only guess and experiment...threfore I cannot tell if porting HTC proprietary drivers is possible. I'd say not...if it was, we would have it by now. The main reason I think, is that those drivers are not open source, so nobody can port them since the sources are not available. I'm sure that if it was possible, they'll have been included in CM

I am wondering if the wifi issue is software or hardware problem? I am hoping its a software issue and will be fixed in an update because my 14 days have passed for best buy return policy. If its hardware could i just send it into acer? Just sucks I can barley go outside my room with the router to keep signal.
I have no problem what so ever with my wifi, i can even connect to my wifi when i visit my parents across the street.
Its not some high grade wifi either, just a small d-link access point.
I've had no issues with wifi connections either. I've even sat in the parking lot at McD's and accessed their wifi. It see's several of my neighbors networks too.
what wifi issue??
What they said. I've had no problems with either if my tablets
wifi great for me as well
I can see several neighbors router sitting anywhere in my home.our router is in the basement.I can go out in the far back yard and and still connected.with that said I never have more then 2 bars I do not think it reports correctly.

My first unit would drop from 5 to 2 bars walking out of the bedroom my new dual band n1 was was sittin. Within 25 feet when I checked to update my tablet, I gotta 'signal too poor' message.
I called acer support, gal I spoke with was green with the device but put on hold and consulted with a senior support tech. They took my info and directed me to exchange the device.
I did the next day and the new unit has no issues with connectivity any longer.
Yes there is a few units out in the wild that they deem to have a defective wifi device on-board....
I would suggest exchanging if you still can asap, although I'm sure you would have no issue gettin a replacement from acer 'america' if you gave them a shout.
Give them a call, I'm sure they will help you out and post your response from them.
Really ??
You exchanged through Acer support ?? I thought most people would just take it to where they bought it .. I would never have thought of that ... only if my return timeline with the store were expired and then we would contact support based on the 1 year warranty ..etc
good to know -)

I took it back to staples where I purchased....
ya but i waited past my 14 days to return to best buy....so now id have to send it in which i dont want to at all. To clarify...it has got better the last few days..dunno how. But i downloaded wifi analyzer on both my nook color and this and kept comparing the 2. The nook does occasionally about 10 dmb stronger but for the most part its pretty close to the same.
Maybe It's Something Else...
For the past couple of hours I've been playing with FTP servers on my Iconia (and found two apps in the Market that make it easy to set up - FTP Server and Wireless File Transfer - both free). See this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1094289
Now I was thinking, on some of my earlier mobile devices, there was a setting that was called "WiFi Powersave" or something like that and it was always recommended to turn that off because it screwed up the WiFi by cycling it when the thing thought you needed to conserve battery life.
Sort of like the f.....ng useless confirmations that Windoze likes to throw in every app. Anyway, does anyone know of a kind of "hidden setting" that Acer might of thrown in 'cause sometimes WiFi file transfer works great and sometimes my PC cannot find the Iconia?
I don't care whether you delete this topic or not. It is, somewhat, development related. I'm just doing a new topic for this thing because, if I were to post this on a ROM thread, it would have become covered with 100 other posts within the hour, decreasing the chances of the developer reading it! My hope, with this thread, is that someone interested or someone who knows about this, sees it and does something about it! Please read first, and if you, the one who has the power to delete threads for whatever reason, consider it utterly useless and retarded, delete it.
I'm a new DHD user (switched over from the Desire). This issue was in Sense ROMs for the Desire, as well. The Desire S had this problem with stock GB, too.
In CM-based ROMs such as MIUI (which is what I'm currently using), you get an "Advanced" section under Wireless Networks. From there, you can choose the wi-fi channels (11, 13, 14). On a freshly flashed MIUI, no channel is selected. I have two wi-fi networks in my appartment (one is mine, one is from a neighbour). That second wi-fi network, from my neighbour... my phone does not see it (unless I choose 13 or 14 wi-fi channels).
Funny thing. That neighbour's wi-fi... it's set on channel #3. It's a MSI RG54SE II router, if that matters.
Now, on Sense ROMs, such as Android Revolution HD and RunnyDrOiD (the ones I have tried so far), you don't get the option to choose the channels. So... that RG54SE II is unseen by my phone.
Back when I was having the Desire... Only LeeDrOiD ROM had that "Advanced" section under Wireless Networks. Not sure if that's the case with his ROM for the DHD, as well...
So, this thing is not only for the DHD. It's also for the Desire, and the Desire S. My gilfriend has a DS, and until I convinced her to let me unleash her phone's lockers and flash something on it, she could only see 3 Wi-Fi`s (stock 2.3.3, that is), while I could connect to all 20 that were available in the zone.
--
Hope you get my point. Hope you know what I'm talking about. Hope I'm not the only one that noticed this!!!
If anyone has any idea on how to solve this... please tell me. I have tried LeeDrOiD's "Adhoc networking" (that was the only network-related addon I could find, so...) patch, but that didn't do the work. I don't know what will, since there isn't any addon for this... or I'm blind? Open my eyes, then - KINDLY, not with a banhammer.

This is not the answer you're looking for, but it's worth a mention. You should just ask your neighbor to use a recommended channel. I notice that you're outside of the U.S., where you are supposed to use channels 1, 5, 9 or 13 to prevent wi-fi networks from interfering with each other (within the U.S. you are supposed to use channels 1, 6 or 11). You can make up a story and tell your neighbor that his oddball channel 3 configuration (that he probably decided to use for no good reason) is causing interference with your own network, and you have the technical proof to back it up. From Wikipedia:
"There are 14 channels designated in the 2.4 GHz range spaced 5 MHz apart (with the exception of a 12 MHz spacing before Channel 14). As the protocol requires 25 MHz of channel separation, adjacent channels overlap and will interfere with each other. Consequently, using only channels 1, 6, 11 is recommended in the US to avoid interference. In the rest of the world, the four channels 1, 5, 9, 13 are recommended."
Maybe you can just get your neighbor to follow the rules and switch his network to channel 1, 5 or 9. Then every ROM that you use will have no problem connecting to his network and the problem is solved. I'm assuming you have his permission to use his network resources.
Both my Huawei and his MSI router are configured to channel 3. I put it to that, because there are other 10 networks within this area, and I thought... meh... perhaps they're not using the same channel, lol. Anyway, with the phone, on 14 channels, I only see 5 networks, including mine. With the laptop, I see about 11, so I believe this applies to whatever networks there may be outside, too...
The neighbour I'm talking about... I don't have his permission. I think it's one of those 50 year old couples who don't give a **** about what hardware the ISP installs in their home. Most older-than-45 people here, in my country, know nothing about Wi-Fi, and, since they don't even use it... I wouldn't be surprised if the people who own that MSI router don't even know it's there.
Anyway... the gateway, interface, whatever (192.168.1.1) is accessible, and the user/pass are not changed ("admin', that is). It ain't got a password, neither, obviously. So I could get in and change everything I wished regarding WLAN. Too bad it ain't got /n, but still... I'll try to change the channel even further, and try again with a Sense ROM.
Still, that doesn't fix the issue. Downtown, the most crowded place in the entire city... there are about 25 Wi-Fi networks around (at least that's what I can detect with my phone). My phone (CM-based ROM) can see them all. My girlfriend, with her stock ROM`ed Desire S, could only see 5 or 6. That is no longer the case now, since she's got MIUI, too. And I believe this is the issue with all Sense ROMs : you see 30% of the WLANs you'd see with a CM-based ROM...
I can't ask public stores : hey, your wi-fi... it's set to a channel that my phone just can't see, change it!

@Formhault - You risk Jail if you violate the neighbors privacy. It's like you found on the street a wallet full of money and you don't gave back to the injured person.
I posted a thread just like this before and it passed rather unseen. And un touched. Also I asked for a similar situation and had negative answer. But my issue is that I have a VIZIO router.
This is a rather new router and it gives me another option VIZIO HD. Which is more advance and speedier. I have a 12mb connection but I dont have full speed as I cant connect with this.
And a samsung galaxy can also a motorola atrix so I would like to know if someone knows if this can be modified.

Firstly, using a persons WiFi without permission is theft, regardless of whether it is locked or not. Does an open window in someone's house mean you can legally steal there belongings?
Secondly, this is not Development related in the slightest.
Thirdly, you want the XDA community to help you find a solution to break the law? You should search for an answer elsewhere. i.e. not XDA.

After an hour on the device it simply forgets it's connected. Even if I'm watching a movie it will stop aND say no connection. I've returned it once so I think it is software vs hardware. Anyone else?

I had a 7.0 for a week and not one had problems

Yeah mine does that also, not my fave, but I just turn the wifi off and then back on again. Sometimes it only stays on the wifi for 10 minutes! Hope there is a fix at some point.
Sent from my SM-T230NU using XDA Free mobile app
Seems like a Samsung issue....
Looks like all along the Galaxy lineup there are wifi issues.
I tried everything, preventing wifi from sleeping, using wifi fixer, nothing seems to work.
Sometimes my wifi will stay connected, the upload will work, but I get no download.
Rebooting wifi on quick toggle seems to only do the trick.
Have you all updated the software?

Yep, I updated to the latest software the moment I received the tab
Hmm, have you tried with more than one WiFi connection?

Yep, seems to do it more often with a 5Ghz connection than 2.4 though.
None of my other 5Ghz devices (3 iPhones and an iPad) drop wifi.
Signal is on clearest channel available.
Pretty much isolated everything outside of this tablet.
I'm pretty techy with my home networking, so I'm at a loss with this one.
Yes, it has been updated and yes it has occurred on my home wifi, my work wifi, my doctor's office wifi, and unfortunately the hospital's wifi. All with the same outcome! My S5 doesn't do it nor did my S4 running Kit Kat.
So, still no fixes for this! As a previous poster now it is getting where if I'm playing a game it will drop after 10 minutes! I have power save off everything. While hitting the WIFI on off button works it is highly annoying! I want my WIFI all the time not when my tablet thinks I should!

Think I have a solution http://tinyurl.com/nfbgxds
Hope 5th is will help out so far so good for me!
I just got this tab 4 7 inch last week and I am having the same problem with connections showing connected but not having any data transfer. The steps in the above link did not help for me.
I have updated to the latest firmware posted on sammobile, both the Canada version and the nook (BNN) version. Neither have made a difference.
I have found another thread in thisnforrum for this same problem, and there wasn't any solution there either.
I did find wha I think might be solution but haven't proofed it yet. in the build prop there was two "ro.carrier" lines. I think there is only supposed to be one, so I commented out one.
Original Example:
ro.carrier=wifi only
ro.carrier=unknown
Changed example:
ro.carrier=wifi only
#ro.carrier=unknown
If anybody can confirm this makes a difference or not please post results
EDIT::
After two weeks without problem anymore it appears the fix was the static IP address not the build prop change.
I found threads going back to at least 2007 about Samsung devices having trouble with dhcp and all the solutions being manually assign a static IP to the device.
Same issue here. Sometimes I have to cycle the WiFi every webpage!
Both of the above solutions didn't work for me, unfortunately.
Edit: Okay, I may have found the issue, at least for me. Turns out, the tablet was auto-assigning the same IP as my RasPi. After setting a static IP, everything looks okay from here. Hope this helps!
Changing to static IP did nothing, I was having to reset wifi on the tab every time I turned on the screen.
I even had wifi fixer constantly running.
Finally updated to NJ3 and everything is working properly.
Looks like it's a FW issue.

It should be one line:
ro.carrier=wifi-only
Script can be added however by attacting to the rom on the correct line parameters and scripting for digital on board configuration (no smart card) QMAL gsm, gprs, 3g, 4g, even lte or 5g, or 6g, no sim card required researve slot for world phone, or dual networking. The problem is each phone has to be separately programmed so cell companiesnhave walked away from needing higher qualified employees by switching to smart cards. Cost way less and employes way less people and note, your phone didnt cost you a penny less. I been doing cell phone tweaking since the motorolla brick was cool. Currently I used Samsung Galaxy Note 8010 64-bit 32 gig converted to XAC (its the industry's mobile payment recieveing device you see at bars, its made from the model previous mentioned)[to-wit-it says on their site not to tell anyone about]-or else- build then added Debian, Jessie. Then switched the imei to XAC, installed the telephony.manager.is_network_roaming=true along with the prpper scripting for the support and am hooked up to Sask-Tell. Once I got it connected and registered so it had a sign in address with the system i swutched the imei to all 000000000000's now they dont even send me a bill. But it works. The guy at the phone company couldnt even tell me where i was calling him from and he said my phone was disconnected while I was on the phone with him from the disconnected number. lmfao have a good day.
Hello,
I have a Moto X pure purchased a little less than a year ago, and I noticed an issue with 5GHz WiFi speed.
In particular whenever connected to any 5GHz AP the connection is established but almost no traffic goes through (speed test shows it crawling, especially in upload, and it is completely unusable)
Connectivity over 2.4GHz WiFi and LTE works perfectly, so it does not appear to be an issue due to radio/modems
The phone was unlocked to gain root access, has been used on Official Motorola ROMs almost all of the times, with one single LineageOS test to confirm if the issue is related to Mororola radio/modem or if it appears to be hardware in nature.
Given the fact that the same exact result is present with LineageOS, I contacted Motorola support, in order to request a repair.
I am aware that by unlocking the phone I voided the warranty (even though I have heard of several users in this forum that were able to have the phone repaired/replaced free of charge after the unlock), but in my specific case the support rep stated explicitlkly that Motorola would not service the phone at all:
"Dyril: Yes. Once you unlock the boot loader of your device, we can no longer process a repair for it. You may refer to this link h t t p s://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a for the disclaimer before unlocking the bootloader. " (URL edited to allow the post.. . but is the default disclaimer before unlock)
The disclaimer in particular mentions the warranty being voided, but that page does not include any statement indicating the fact that Motorola would refuse to service the phone even at a cost (I asked in the chat if there would be a cost for the repair given the voided warranty)
Does anyone have any direct experience or contact that could help me on this matter?
Should I proceed with a repair request directly, ignoring the support chat?
Thanks
Luca Rizzo
I Donno worst case they reject it the unlocked bootloader was supposed to void warranty with the exception of hardware if there is a defect in the hardware.... But I would try loading a full factory OTA image one that would have any modem updates...

the issue was present with every ROM I tried, I tested all official full factory ROMs from Android 5.x to 6.0 and also LineageOS too, but issue was present all of the times, suggesting that it would be an actual HW issue, so hopefully still covered
Unlocked bootloader voids warranty, period, regardless of issue or cause (except EU)... I still have a tough time believing this is a hardware issue though, 5Ghz is finicky, and it uses the same antenna as 2.4Ghz in this device as far as I know.

I understand the warranty is voided, but as mentioned in the initial post I also asked if the phone could be repaired at a cost, and their complete refusal would be the issue and also surprising.
As far as the issue being software caused (drivers/radio, rom) could you suggest any additional kind of test I could perform?
I reflashed the phone multiple times using fastboot/mfastboot using all of the moto x pure roms I could find on xda-dev and dload from motorola support site, and also tried the latest LineageOS nightly (that might possibly be using different drivers/radios)
I agree that the fact that the 2.4 is working properly would suggest that the antenna is functional, but from what I gathered from h t t p s://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/help/moto-x-xt1575-wheres-antenna-t3338080 there are actually different antennas for the different bands (thing that would make sense due to the physical size requirements to optimize reception on the different frequencies) so that might explain why one band works and the other does not
In my experience, 5GHz is sometimes problematic on all of my devices. Unfortunately this seems to be a very common issue. The 5GHz band is well known to have issues with range when it has to go through walls, even a single wall.
Is your router right next to a television or other electronic device? If they are working on 5GHz (not necessarily connected to your router), then they could be interfering. Not saying this is the issue, but just an idea to look into.
The issue presents itself even close to the router, and testing with a Galaxy S4 or a Nexus 7 2013 from the same exact position allows me to reach speeds of 100+Mbps, while the Moto X Pure crawls, and the same behavior is experienced with different routers/APs even of enterprise level.
Do you have any suggestion on possible tests or ROMs/modem radios to flash to confirm it is not a software issue in any way?
Sounds like a H/W issue to me. I have had zero issues connecting to 5Ghz WiFi at my house.
Hey @kattolo
I have some issues when connecting with my phone to a D-Link DIR-822 on 5Ghz, but no problem at all with my TP-Link Archer C9.
I'm not sure exactly why, but i tested on the same place, just placed the D-Link one, try it, bunch of problems in 5Ghz (none in 2.4Ghz network), took it off, replaced with the C9, it always gave me much better speed, connection reliability and range.
Try with other equipment (routers) that can provide you 5Ghz networks, just to be sure it's your phone and not the emitter.
Obs: sorry for any english mistake, not my main language

Mine is a XT1581, the Chinese versio of Moto X Force. No matter it's stock ROM 5.1 or 6.0.1 EU, the problem only occurs on 5Ghz wifi. I've tested it with my home router, a old Netgear 802.11n device with 5Ghz band maxing 300mbps, and also tested it in my office with multiple AC routers supporting up to 866mbps.
My phone connects smoothly with those 5Ghz wifi, showing the wifi logo on the notification area on top of screen. But once I run speedtest app or browing the web, almost within seconds, the wifi traffic drops to zero, then even the wifi logo is still on, in Setting--WLAN, the phone starts searching for wifi signals but eventually to no avail. So I'll have to manually turn off wifi switch and then on again to connect to the 5Ghz wifi, and the loop goes on.
An interesting point I've found is that, when the 5Ghz link speed between my phone and the router is somewhat lower, it works fine, with almost no wifi disconnecting or drops. For example, my home router supports max speed 300mbps on 5Ghz, and if I manually set the router's link mode to 130mbps, my phone works good. In my office, I occasionally discovered that if the link speed is like 173mpbs when the phone is connecting to a certain AC router, no problem at all with 5Ghz wifi.
I guess I've tried messing with every possible parameters in /system/ect/wifi/WCNSS_Qcom_cfg.ini, but no luck at all.
As I said earlier, no problem for me with the Archer C9 (I'm 8 ~ 10 meters away from the router in straight line, 2 rooms far from where it was placed)
