I am wondering if the wifi issue is software or hardware problem? I am hoping its a software issue and will be fixed in an update because my 14 days have passed for best buy return policy. If its hardware could i just send it into acer? Just sucks I can barley go outside my room with the router to keep signal.
I have no problem what so ever with my wifi, i can even connect to my wifi when i visit my parents across the street.
Its not some high grade wifi either, just a small d-link access point.
I've had no issues with wifi connections either. I've even sat in the parking lot at McD's and accessed their wifi. It see's several of my neighbors networks too.
what wifi issue??
What they said. I've had no problems with either if my tablets
wifi great for me as well
I can see several neighbors router sitting anywhere in my home.our router is in the basement.I can go out in the far back yard and and still connected.with that said I never have more then 2 bars I do not think it reports correctly.

My first unit would drop from 5 to 2 bars walking out of the bedroom my new dual band n1 was was sittin. Within 25 feet when I checked to update my tablet, I gotta 'signal too poor' message.
I called acer support, gal I spoke with was green with the device but put on hold and consulted with a senior support tech. They took my info and directed me to exchange the device.
I did the next day and the new unit has no issues with connectivity any longer.
Yes there is a few units out in the wild that they deem to have a defective wifi device on-board....
I would suggest exchanging if you still can asap, although I'm sure you would have no issue gettin a replacement from acer 'america' if you gave them a shout.
Give them a call, I'm sure they will help you out and post your response from them.
Really ??
You exchanged through Acer support ?? I thought most people would just take it to where they bought it .. I would never have thought of that ... only if my return timeline with the store were expired and then we would contact support based on the 1 year warranty ..etc
good to know -)

I took it back to staples where I purchased....
ya but i waited past my 14 days to return to best buy....so now id have to send it in which i dont want to at all. To clarify...it has got better the last few days..dunno how. But i downloaded wifi analyzer on both my nook color and this and kept comparing the 2. The nook does occasionally about 10 dmb stronger but for the most part its pretty close to the same.
Maybe It's Something Else...
For the past couple of hours I've been playing with FTP servers on my Iconia (and found two apps in the Market that make it easy to set up - FTP Server and Wireless File Transfer - both free). See this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1094289
Now I was thinking, on some of my earlier mobile devices, there was a setting that was called "WiFi Powersave" or something like that and it was always recommended to turn that off because it screwed up the WiFi by cycling it when the thing thought you needed to conserve battery life.
Sort of like the f.....ng useless confirmations that Windoze likes to throw in every app. Anyway, does anyone know of a kind of "hidden setting" that Acer might of thrown in 'cause sometimes WiFi file transfer works great and sometimes my PC cannot find the Iconia?

hello all.
im having issues with my wifi. im getting realy poor reception even when standing next to the router. i did lots of reading about the matter but could not conclude whether it was a software or a hardware issue. im running stock rom.
i got the phone from google the tmobile version and im currently using it in Oman.
when i got it, i turned the phone on, it asked me if i wanted to update i said, all went perfect.
at first i didnt notice, then couple of hours later i noticed that the wifi bars will not go more than 1 bar if im 20 feets away from the router. if i put the phone on top of the router i still got one bar short than full.
last week i ordered another phone for myfather inlaw. i asked him to cancel and not update his phone to ere27, the same update i performed.
i compared his phone and mine at his house, my phone wouldnt even see the network when we were one floor down when his phone showed 2 bars.
im totaly confused, i dont want to root nor unlock the bootloader. however, i tried to manually flash the update ere27 again using sd card, thinking maybe there was some error last time. still the same.
on the other side i have a jawbone 2 headset. the reception is so bad if i take the phone more than 15cm for my headset, same with the dock. the dock being bluetooth capable, the phone doesnt have to be sitting at the dock in order for it to play music.
while i was doing my readings, it seemed that the bluetooth and wifi are the same chip, thus im wondring it might be a chip issue.
so now im back to zero, radio software issue or chip hardware issue.
some other facts:
i have no problems staying connected to my wifi with my low signal. i have no voice issues nor 3g issues. (3g still under observation and testing to see whether it works fine for me.
this week im getting another nexus one for my brother and dont know whether i ask him not to perform the ere27 update and wait till google sends another ota that might update the radio.
correct if im worng, i was thinking to flash only the radio. i currently have the 4.03, locked and unrooted and was thinking to flash the 4.04 radio but from what i understood that to flash radio u need to be rooted and unlocked?
if yes, then i will have to wait for googles ota.
if no, then point where to find the tutorials and radio file.
any feedback is much appreciated
Try the app wifi fixer... it helped me alot with keeping a good signal
i tried that also but that software helps u maintain a connection. i have no issues staying connected but i have issues with the strength of the wifi signal.
any more inputs
you should WiFi fix app because it shows you what channels are too crowded in your area and which ones are free. it sounds like your channel is so crowded that even next to the router the phone can't get a good signal.
hello
thank u for ur input. today i asked my father inlaw to update his nexus one to update1. i have asked him to refrain from it before thinking it might be a software issue on mine. after his update, his signals got even better when mine struggled to maintain a signal. mind u both phone where next to each other.
i also had blurtooth issues using my jawbone. at first i thought it was my bluetooth but today i tried his headset. the headset would start staticing if the phone is below my shoulder. after doing some readings, i learnt that the nexus one shares the same chip for bluetooth and wifi.
now im certain its a hardware issue.
since im in oman, i emailed htc and told them about the problem and my location. i offered them the option of me sending the phone to my company in san diego or directly to them. lets see what they say.
in the meantime, i decided to purchase another n1 (loaner) till i send mine and have it back after repair. after which i will sell the loaner ; )
cheers
Was wondering if anyone could help me.
I was loving almost everything about my elocity tablet, but wifi issues were same as initial g tablet.
Firmware came out yesterday that supposedly fixed this and for everyone in the main Elocity thread, it seems to have just done that.
I have applied it but have the following problem:
While I can see all the available networks, I cant seem to join any unless I am almost 5 feet from the router and despite seeing excellent signal I am only getting 1 mb/s link speeds. Rarely it wil go as high as five.
It is not a router issue as laptops and iphones connect fine. I have rebooted router and tried every permutation of wireless secuirty and wireless speed, b/g/n settings (the elocity is b/g only wifi). With no luck
Went to local McDonalds and could pick up 4 surrounding wifi networks with good to excellent signal and connected to them but again only a best of 1 or 2 mb/s.
I will be returning my device on account of this. Being in Canada I won't be able to get another (I am in USa with family for holidays for another week.)
I am hoping there is something in software I could do that might fix this as I like the device otherwise especially with quadrant scores in the 2400 range now.
I tried resetting the device and reflashing the firmware update to no avail. I don't know enough about android or linux to know if there is anything I can do delving deeper into the device to fix this?
It is almost like it only connects at wireless b and not g working so range is short and slow.
any thoughts or ideas before I send back as I have 2-3 days to wait for the RMA label.
Recently had to ruu to get my external speaker replaced and when I re-rooted and restored my rom (cm7) I can't seem to get a stable connection to a wifi router. I was standing 5 feet from router looking right at it and i was only showin 50% signal strength. I asked this question over in the cm7 thread but have yet to get an answer so I figured I would post the question here just in case anyone else has the same issues. I am wondering if there is a way to adjust minimum threshold for wifi to pick up the signal from the router. Or if there is a way to reset the wifi to get back my signal reception. I did notice last night at home that my signal would fluctuate if I blocked l.o.s. to the router with my laptop screen by about 30-40%. Don't know if that is even relevent but I am tying to provide all the information I have.

Have you dropped your router before? If so this can cause a great decrease in signal strength. If not read on.
Does your router have system settings for you to access by typing it's IP addrss in the address bar of your laptop's browser?
If so, reset all its settings to default (except for your routers password). This way we can eliminate one variable, the router.
Now let's get to work:
- Try flashing a different version of android (2.x) and/or a non-cyanogenmod rom
- Try tuning your tcp setting using adb shell and watch the wifi signal increase/decrease and take note of what new value you echo-ed increase/decreased the signal.
TCP Tuning Locations:

I ended getting the phone replaced. Found that the repair guys f'd up my wifi antenna. Last time I use that store. If anybody here lives in Everett, WA do not go to the repair shop located at 121 SE Everett mall way. They are shady as hell. They even broke the protective case I had on there, replaced it, and then took the broken case and put it back on the rack. Found it up there when I went back to find out about my broken wifi.

Wow....I'm really speechless about that repair shop. But I appreciate you warning everyone of that shady repair shop, that way this is the last time anyone reports problems with their phone after dealing with them.
Anyone else experiencing problems with the Wlan? Everyday I have to shut down Wifi, and start Wifi again to reconnect to my router. This mostly happens after the phone has been unused for a few minutes.
When I start using the phone again, it still says i´m connected, I still have the IP, and the signalbar. But when trying to use the internet there is no connection.
My X10, asus lamborghini, hp laptop and desktop pc works flawlessly, so there cant be anything wrong with the router.
Would like to confirm that this is a general problem, and not just my phone...
I didn't have this problem until I played with the WiFi sleep policy. I switched it from 'Never' to 'Sleep when screen is off' and I then got the problem you described. I have since switched my phone back to 'Never' and the problem has gone away.

I've got the same problem with my phone, its really annoying
There are three threads and one poll dedicated to Wi-Fi. There was no definitive answer in those threads so I doubt there will be one in this thread. Do a search.
Same problem here, not sure if it's down to running a customer rom, anyone having this problem on stock rom?
Yes I've had this problem and tried to send my phone back over it.
It appears to be a problem with WPA1 - the wifi driver hangs and the phone kills it (from adb logcat).
It happened on my home wifi - I switched it to WPA2 and it went away; however, my employer uses 802.1X and I have to use HSPDA at work as wifi keeps crashing.

Get off your high horses. I found a solution in this 'noob' thread that I did not find in the pages of waffle on the main thread.
It may have cost me £100 but it is a solution which is what some of us pragmatic types want. The rest of the high and mighty around here can cast around for an understanding of the underlying issue but some just want to get things to work and get on with our lives. Both attitudes are valid and one camp should not set themselves as more 'worthy' than the other.
A sense of superiority is seldom founded on anything useful.

Anyone having issues connecting to wi-fi networks on channels 12/13? On my device I'm unable to see SSIDs in these channels most of the time. Sometimes I can see networks in channel 13.
Am engaging with Google tech support, so will keep you posted.
What country are you in?
UK
I seem to be the only person on my street that knows channel 13 exists. No issues for me connecting. Although I run my phone to my 5Ghz connection normally, I can connect to my 2.4Ghz if needs be.

Good good.
I'm wondering whether it's down to me not activating the SIM in the phone as yet? Like a double check that the phone should be allowed to use 12&13 (rather than just selecting English UK as the language).

There's really no difference in using that over channel 11 in your case with the co-channel interference.
YES!
It's not just me then. Home router (2.4Ghz) is on ch.13 and when i return home the device will not auto-connect until i toggle wifi off and back on again. Wifi works fine until i leave again. connects fine to my wifi network at work but that is different channel and on 5Ghz too.
RMA'd my device and the new one was bad. Wouldn't see my network at all, but wouldn't register my Sim card either so I have just returned this replacement device. Replacement number 2 is on the way.
I switched to ch.12 and the same thing happens at home. Didn't try any other channels as they are too noisy. So I wonder if this is a software issue? I'm in the UK and the router is made by technicolor for Plusnet.

If channel 11 is noisy, then so is 12 and 13.

You might want to change to channel 11. With the current setup you are not only killing your own data rates, but also the rates of everyone on channel 11. These channels are not supposed to overlap, because that creates interference. Switch to channel 11.
This is my WiFi situation. I'm normally on CH.13, but switched to 12 as a test.
My 2nd unit arrived last week, and unfortunately it's the same issue as before - no channels 12 or 13, not even visible. I'll be back in touch with Google today.
Hopefully this is a software issue rather than Google/Huawei spec'ing a duff wifi chipset.
Google spoken to and basically it's a case of tough-titty - some devices aren't going to work with channels 12 & 13.
For anyone else reading this, I had this problem and 'solved' it.
If you find that you can't see channels 12 and 13 then it's almost definitely caused by the Wifi country code restrictions.
I got my Nexus 6P here in Korea and initially tried it out with no sim card. Even though the location is set in settings, without a sim card it doesn't get the wifi country code set, and I couldn't see those channels. As soon as I inserted a Korean sim card, I was able to see them.
If you are in the UK or elsewhere, using a local sim card and you can't see those channels then chances are either your country doesn't allow it or the code is already set. Either way, your options are just accept it or try one of the 'not officially supported' ways to getting around it. That's likely why Google said you were out of luck. It's possible but involves rooting etc. I think. Just search for 'change wifi country code android'. Good luck.

I am afraid that the issue is not as simple. I also have problems with channels 12 and 13, however my phone can connect to those channels, but only for a while. I quote the report I filed in the AOSP bug tracker (not yet assigned, though):
Before I continue, I am based in Switzerland, use a Swiss mobile provider (Swisscom), and I bought my phone through Google in Switzerland. This is relevant because in Europe 802.11b/g/n channels 12 & 13 are allowed, while in the North America they are allowed only under "low power conditions" with the effect that, AFAIK, many devices simply do not support them. My Nexus 6P however should (and shall) support those two channels.
Now, the problem.
I have two access points at home, both in the 2.4 GHz band: one on channels 4+6 and the other (normally) on channels 12+13. What I noticed is that my Nexus 6P would initially connect to the strongest signal independently from the channel, as expected, but then after a while (a couple of hours, maybe) would just stop seeing the signal on channels 12 & 13. Not just my own WLAN, but also neighborhood WLANs on the same channels. This means that the phone can be sitting a couple of meters from the AP in my office (channels 12+13) and be connected to the AP at the opposite corner of the building (the one on channels 4+6). I checked with "WiFi Analyzer" and the phone really does not see any signal above channel 11.
Disabling and re-enabling WiFi will make the phone see channels 12 & 13 once again. However after a while the problem appears again.
At home this is just an inconvenience: I moved the frequency of the second AP to a different channel and that "solved" the problem. On the other hand this might be a much more serious problem when I am in an environment where I can't change the WiFi settings. Maybe I want to connect to a public hotspot broadcasting on the "wrong" channels or I am at the office in an area covered by APs on channels 12 & 13. Tough luck.
Incidentally, I saw at least one report of someone who had exactly the same issue: he had to disable WiFi and enable it again to get the phone to connect to his WLAN (on channel 12 or 13, I can't remember). I also have to say that in our household we have a few other Android devices (2 x Nexus 7, 1 x Nexus 9, 2 x Nexus 4, 1 x Moto X Play) running either 6.0.1 or 5.1.1 and a few other devices (iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, laptop, 2 x Kindle) and none exhibits this behavior. It seems to be specific to the 6P.
I suspect that after a while the WiFi driver simply reverts to its default regulatory domain ("US", I assume) and stops listening to channels 12 and 13. Why it might do so is anyone's guess. Maybe doze interferes with the driver.
Same problem here. The only way to reconnect to WiFi channel 12 or 13 is to manually switch WiFi off and on again on the 6p.
I'm in Hungary.
Guys, there is a thread in the Nexus Help Forum and I reported the issue in the AOSP Bug Tracker. Add your contributions to those threads and star them. Let's try to bring this to Google's attention, otherwise we will never get any action on this topic.
Edit: For some reason I can't add links to the post. Please search issue 197106 ("WiFi 2.4 GHz channels 12 & 13 not working properly on Nexus 6P running 6.0.1") in the AOSP Bug Tracker and the post "My Nexus 6P can't connect to Channel 12 or 13 WIFI's" in the Google Product Forums.

I have been trying for a week to extract some information from Google and Huawei, but I must say that their support just doesn't know anything about this issue. It's even difficult to get someone to understand what the problem is: one Google support guy thought I was talkng about LTE channel 12, for example. Huawei support started talking about options in the WiFi settings that are not there, then they wanted to guide me through adding a new WLAN, and finally started clutching at straws, giving more and more fantastic explanations of why it might be so.
Bottom line is: nobody I talked to ever heard about this issue.
I would really like to understand if it could be a hardware issue (which I honestly doubt) because my RMA window is closing soon and I don't honestly know what to do: apart from this WiFi issue my 6P is absolutely flawless and I do not want to risk getting a new telephone only to find out that WiFi still does not work as expected and it's also got other issues. (And, yes, something like this already happened to me.)

If your telephone is unlocked (and if you are on XDA chances are it is), flash Franco's kernel. I did it today and now my problems with WiFi are gone. Plus Franco's is known to be very battery efficient. It's a win-win situation.
