Hello, I'm new to forums and am new to rooting. I've tried a few methods to root my device but can't get anything to work. I'll list my phones specs below, hopefully you guys can tell me what to do. I really only need to root for wifi tethering because FoxFi quit working on my phone for some reason. It keeps saying that unfortunately foxfi has stopped. It's stupid. I'd also like to get rid of some of the stupid apps that come with the phone and take up space.
Thanks in advance.

You're out of luck. The BOG5 build you are on cannot be rooted.
I kept researching and heard that kingroot could still root my phone.

No, factory reset is just clear all cache, user install apps, system settings and return them back to factory settings. Lollipop is the Operating system, you can't get rid of the O/S.
Here is a solution i used to root my SM-G900V a few days ago:
- downgrade your lollipop 5... to kit kat 4.4.2 using Odin 3.09
- download towelroot v3. And use it to root
- use rootchecker from playstore to verify
-download 'SuperSu' to secure control of your phone
It should work for u.

No, if you are already running with OTA OG5, you can't downgrade. Only ppl with OD5 bootloader and OG5 rom can downgrade.
can anyone confirm if it is possible to downgrade the G900V now?

I'm having trouble finding the right root to use for my specific build and software, as well as which ROMs would work. The trouble is this odd BUO part of the software version, which I'm not finding any other mentions of here or elsewhere. So, if someone could point me in the right direction for the root and recommend a ROM I'd be really grateful. Thanks.

There is no root for 4.4.2 yet, only some workarounds involving going back to 4.2.2
You could flash back to 4.2.2 then re-flash with this method for 4.4.2 & root, Its fantastic!

I recently rooted my Galaxy S4 using the Towel Root method. but a week ago or so while driving ATT forced an update and updated to the new version. The problem is I do not have Root active, but I can't use certain apps due to getting a message saying that they can't be used on a Rooted device. I am not sure how to remove this odd state I am in. Has anyone had this issue and know how to remove it?

What is it that you really want - to regain root or to unroot?
1. To regain root - read the root section of All Things AT&T thread
2. To unroot
a. Without losing data -- I am not sure exactly how to do this
One way would be to re-root and then unroot using the superSu app.
b. With losing data -- Oding NB1 stock and update to latest. Follow Return to Stock
I would like to have it go back to unrooted status. I was hoping for a data safe method. But at this point whichever will work. I am assuming i'll have to root, then unroot. But I didnt know if this causes problem as apps believe it to be rooted but the system says I am not.
I'm having the same dilemma
I rooted my s4 using towelroot. Later att forced an update to 4.4.2 which i thought wouldn't work because it was tooted. But it actually did work and updated. Now the phone is not rooted but it seems that there are some files that are still somewhere that pretty much makes it be partially rooted but with not real root access. Now that the next update is being forced by att for version 4.4.4 it doesn't work. It stores installing at 27% with a failed message. I uninstalled towel root and super user but with no success. I whiped the partition and no success. I did a factory reset which i thought it would work and remove the files that maked look rooted and no success. What should i do exactly to unroot it?

You would have to Odin the nb1 tar file, it's the only version that exists. Then ota to 4.4.4, nj4. Any version of Odin works. It will wipe your device and you'll have to start over setting it up.

Maybe this VIDEO helps you. It's for one sm-n900a.
Perhaps it would if i could find the corresponding files for the n900v. Any ideas where i can find them?
i found everything but this file:N900VVRUCNC4_N900VVZWCNC4_VZW.zip
Update
After some extensive searching i found the files and hope to attempt to downgrade according to video posted ^ with my SM-N900V. I found a great site for FW versions for anyone encountering this problem in the future: galaxynote3update
update
This method does not work on Verizon. I found the Verizon equivalent files and attempted this but got a SW REV CHECK fail when trying to download 4.4.2 FW. ATT must not have a version check in theirs. I have exhausted every method out there. Hoping someone comes up with a one click root for this configuration soon cuz not having root sucks
Did you ever succeed?
I just received a new Note 3 from my warranty company. I was hoping it would have 4.4.2 on it
but it has the same version as yours. I really could use root.
Any luck with your phone?

"Towelroot will not work with anything newer than NCG."
-you need to downgrade to 4.4 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784880
-install the NCG Kernel via Odin
-install towelroot
-Now you should have root, SO install SU, Busybox, and Safestrap.
-to upgrade and keep root you need to use this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/how-to-update-to-g900voc4-5-0-keeproot-t3068546
*don't take any OTA while on 4.4 because you will loose root. The link above has the latest OC4 stock rom but it has root. So flash it in odin to upgrade.

memory wipe
I think I may have the same phone. My big concern about down grading to kitkat 4.4.4 is the memory on the phone I am tying to get will be wiped? I want to root the phone in order to install a software like dr. fon or something else that can possibly get text I accidentally erased. The text dates back to mid April till the beginning of May. I don't necessarily need all the text messages, just from my business phone and a client. I heard There is a chance that data could still be out there even though it got erased from my phone? Not sure what my odds are or how possible it is? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Try using Helium backup to get a full app and data backup while you are in non-root mode in 4.4.4 or 5.0. This will get your messages & text for you.

Hello, so I have been looking for several days on how to root my galaxy s5 with the same specifications as yours. I bought it in the US and I didn't think that verizon customized it that badly and actually didn't even open more LTE bands. So I find myself wanting to delete the customization and add the LTE bands used by Vodafone in Spain.
I have tried to follow the instructions that they gave you but I am pretty new on this rooting phones thing and I do not quite understand how can I actually follow the guides (for instance I can't backup the aboot file, it says "permission denied"). Since you have gone through this same nightmare I was wondering if you could help a little bit. I would really appreciate it.
Thanks a lot!

I am wanting to root my phone, and there is a guide here (the links on the first reply of this thread), but I understand that one of the steps is to backup "something" (the aboot is part of that something) that I don't know what it is or how to really do it. I would really appreciate if you can give me a "dummie" guide to do this.
On the other hand, about adding bands, there is guide here:
