I'm using a rooted DC v2.0r2 Hero of course but before this I was using v1.0 which didn't support the Sprint Visual Voicemail. Well, this should be fixed now and I thought simply changing my voice mail service in the phone would work but I keep getting sms voice messages when someone leaves a voice mail. When I dial 1 for my voicemail it takes me to the GV which I used with DC v1.0.
Forgive me but I can't find out how to route my voice mails back to sprint, I have searched and googled and all I can find is how to go TO GV but not BACK.
Any solutions or something I've done wrong?

Go to settings > Call > Select Voice Mail Service > Select My Carrier > Set your voicemail number toooo I think your cell number or *86 I can't remember which. Someone can fill in that detail. Mine is still setup for GV.
if you where using GV to get VVM on 1.0 then you have to go in and reprovision your VM so that sprint stops forwarding your VM to GV. Just like you had to provision it to go to GV buy dialing *27googlenum, dial *38 and listen for the provisioning tones.
So, do I have to dial *27mynumber or do the *38 and is there anything else after that?
Thanks
Just *38 and listen for a tone. (have to hit the call button obviously)
Well, when I go through the config setup for Google Voice, the com.android.phone quits.
So, I went into phone, and selected Call settings, then Voice Mail Service, and select Google. It Asks 'Change to new provider?'. After a few seconds, it responses with 'Forwarding Voice Number failed'.
I also tried entering my Google Voice number in Voice Mail Settings for My Carrier, but all that does is provide a number to call for voice mail. Of course, that did seem to forward to my Google Voice Mail number. At this point I'm not sure if there are any implications of setting it up this way.

I had the same experience. Google Voice works but the voicemail change didn't. So I opened the phone app and pressed the menu key and went to call settings. Then I went to voicemail carrier and Google Voice was an option. I selected the option and it asked if I wanted to change the provider and after I clicked yes it worked. So it just looks like the wizard failed for me but doing it manually seemed to work fine.

That didnt work for me, and in fact, the only thing that worked for me when i had the LG Nitro HD and the HTC One X, and now the GS3, the only thing that works is to open the phone app, hit the Menu > Call Settings > Call Forwarding > Voice call.
Keep Always Forward set to disabled, and set everything else to the google voice number, including the +1.. So if your google voice number is (123)456-7890, then each of the 3 lines would all say +11234567890

Haven't tried it yet, but I do expect that to work. I used that type of coding (as outlined in this Wiki page) in a Tasker script to forward my phone home automatically when hooked to my home WiFi.
I can't find what the *11* is for at the end of it. Do you know?

I typed in that code. Goto a positive mesage back.
So then I went into settings and tried to set up the voice mail again, and it is stil failing.
However, Upon checking the Voice Mail setings for Cal Forwarding, all thre of the phone numbers are set to my GV number.
That should be all... You don't need to go through gvoice setup again if you used the code

I finally got GV to be my voicemail again.
From the phone app, menu button>Call settings.
Scroll down and select Call forwarding.
Select Voice call.
Select Always forward.
Enter GV number, and then Enable.
Turn off: Select Disable.
Select Update.
Now the forward when busy, unanswered and unreachable will be turned on and the "always forward" will be off.
Then you just have to go back to Call Settings and change the voicemail number to your GV number. Voicemail>Voicemail Settings.
It will still say My Carrier in voicemail service and such, but it functions properly.
I posted this in the Google Voice thread in the General section, but I'll put it here too. This works, same as the others, but this actually gets the system to change everything to say Google Voice is handling your voicemail:
Actually, I found a workaround I had to use with the Infuse...
Yes, you have to do the call forwarding code again: *004*[Google Voice Number]#
Then in your dialer settings, select Google Voice as your voicemail service. It will give you an option box popup which asks you to hit cancel or OK. Just hit the home button to leave the menu. When you go back in, Google Voice is selected, your Google Voice # is your voicemail number, and everything is set up properly.

I had to go to google.com/voice and sign my compadre up for a new number, then it started working properly after following the number forwarding.
Thanks!
From another similar thread, the solution is as above mentioned with the numbers; basically log into google voice from your computer -- go to settings and then the part where it lists your mobile numbers added to your account. Click deactivate voicemail -- it'll give you a code to punch into your dialer on your phone. Then click activate -- and it will give you a code to punch in to change the call forwarding settings.
Anyone else seeing google Voice giving the failed forward message when selected as the voice mail provider?
I believe I have it working through manual entry, but it still shows carrier voice mail as my selection from the dialer settings menu.
Happened to me too. Not fun

Yea, it errors out, just do the call forwarding option. It's something to do with Touchwiz from what I can tell, the issue didn't happen on my GSII with CM9 but did with TW

I have always used Google Voice as my default voice mail app. After upgrading to VoLTE (Kitkat 4.4.4), whenever someone calls me and I do not answer, it just says that my voice mail box is not set up. Anyone else having this problem?

I uninstalled and reinstalled, ran through setup and still nothing. I will try again.
I guess I don't understand the allure of VoLTE. In reading about it @ VZW site, it bills the same as regular calls so it's not like it can save on our minutes. Voice sounds just fine over standard calls IMO.
I dont know what I am doing wrong. I reset my Google Voice by uninstalling it and reinstalling, setting it up, then making sure hangouts voicemail is enabled. Anyone have any other thoughts?
*71 your Google voice number to forward it.
Thanks! Just came back here to own my shame as I forgot I had to do the call forwarding.
All better now
To those that have forwarding to GV working, did you also enable the Hangouts integration?
I cant get forwarding to work. When I call my VZW number, it rings, pauses like its trying to forward, the the VZW phone starts ringing again. It never goes to GV, or Hangouts. If I call my GV number directly, it works fine, even from my VZW number.
Any thoughts, suggestions, or assistance appreciated.

I had to go to Google voice on the web, goto Settings, select Edit under your phone number, then select Activate under Forwarding Options. It'll provide a *71 number for you to key in on your phone. This will be a different number than your voicemail number.
It worked for me after these steps.

Tried that yesterday several times on my own and with VZW "support." They seem to think it may be a network backend issue, and have sent it up the food chain...

I have an old plan. 1500 Min, unlimited text and data. For me, it isn't about saving minutes, it is about the quality of the call. My wife and most of my family has GS5, the others just got iPhone 6 so most of my calls VoLTE and I love it.
Slightly off topic, but has anyone gotten the calling feature within the new hangouts integration to work over wifi? I need this at work because when I have to go out on the floor there is no service, but there is wifi.

Did anyone get this figured out? I have never had a problem with google voice not working up until I downloaded the NI2 update to get voLTE. Now when I get a call it says the mail box hasn't been set up yet. I did all of the forwarding options (even shows forwarded on the myverizon page) and it still isn't forwarding to my google voice.
I don't get it. Anyone have any clues? I've already tried everything listed in this thread.

After making sure my phone was still connected via Google Voice online, these steps from Google (click on "If you're a Verizon Wireless user click here") are what got it working for me (along with making sure Google Voice was selected for voice mail in my phone's settings - Phone -> Menu -> Settings -> Call -> Voice Mail). I dialed all three one right after the other:
If you are having trouble configuring Google Voice as your voicemail service on Verizon you can make the switch manually by dialing these three activation codes:
*71[Your Google Voice number]
*90[Your Google Voice number]
*92[Your Google Voice number]

I've tried this and it has not solved my problem.
Working with Verizon Wireless, and they claim there is a problem during the forwarding. I'm likely oversimplifying, but it seems that VZW sends the call to AT&T Landline, who then sends it to Google's landline operator (I forget who they said this was), then it goes to Voice. For my number, there is a problem at the transition from AT&T Landline to Google's operator. So basically, it is a network issue that is occurring on a disinterested carriers network, and so nothing is happening fast.
On a side note, I tried to get creative since others still have working VZW to Voice forwarding, and I got a new number, and paid to keep the old number, too, in the hopes that a new number would work... No joy, I'm out $30 and now have a second number that behaves the same way as the first.

Odd that it works for some and not for others.
It would be great if Verizon would get things straightened out, but they've never cared about Google Voice and likely never will (heck, Google doesn't seem to care too much about it these days).

Odd that that works for you. I had tried that, and setting it up through the MyVerizon app, and by the VZW tech setting it, all with the same broken results.
Just wondering if anyone else knows why the Voicemail section of the Phone Settings menu is inaccessible. It's permanently set to My Carrier. Every phone I've owned before this has allowed me to change Voicemail to Google Voice. Thanks in advance.
This has happened to me with all of my LG phones. G5, G5, and V20, and a few Samsung phones. You just have to forward your number to your google voice number. You can either go to Settings > Networks > Call > More > Call Forwarding. Change The Busy, Unanswered and Unreachable options to your GV number. Now if someone calls your regular number and you don't answer it'll get forwarded to your GV number and the voicemail will pick up. It's worked for me for years now.
Lg v20 new not setting my google voice number. Cant find a setting. Guessing all the web smarts are before Android 7.0.
