Is there a root fix for SOD? - Galaxy S6 Edge+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm currently unrooted and suffering from the sleep of death issue where my phone literally won't wake doesn't respond to any buttons pressed when the screen is off. This phone is only 3 weeks old and I want root so bad but I'm scared of tripping knox then being rejected for a repair if the SOD issue can't be fixed.
Is there a root fix if I was to root?
Thanks

I have the same problems with my S6 Sprint. Still waiting for someone can really fix it

How often do you have this problem? On my side It's maximum once a week.

[Q] Screen waking on it own after trying to sleep

For some reason my screen keeps coming back on after 5 second of sleep an i have to keep hitting the lock button to get it to stay off. I donut think its an app doing it but im not sure how can i tell what is causing this?
i had this problem before, but no one responded to my post. it recently has gone away after the OTA update.
hope that helps.
did you by any chance find a solution for your problem?

[Q] Random Shutdowns Post OTA

So i bought my G2 three days after launch and had none of the common issues until about a week before the OTA. I started experiencing the shutdowns at random and it slowly got more frequent (4 times a day). The OTA hit and i didnt have another shutdown for a week. Then one. Then two about three days later. Now its back to an everyday thing. Is there something i can do to fix it. Im not rooted and im not using any weird widgets or apps.
Is it rebooting or just shutting down and you have to press the power button to turn it back on? If its just shutting down and not rebooting then I think you might have a loose battery.

Well, i hit the power button to wake up the screen and i get nothing. After a few seconds the white screen with the htc logo appears and the phone boots. I assume its shutdown cause it acts like its off. If it was a loose battery why would the OTA slow it down for a bit?
After the OTA (that was supposed to fix the random reboots/shutdowns), I had the same thing. About a week of none, and then they started again. Since I've perm-rooted, installed the BaconBits kernel and messed around with some Sense ROMs. Not one shutdown. I think T-Mobile's ROM build(s) for this phone just suck and that's the problem. Only on stock have I had the issue.
Yea I'm Experiencing the same issue. I Upgrade the OTA about three weeks ago and now out of know where it randomly turns off it doesn't shut OFF , it just turns off and then i have to take the battery out and reboot it all over again? Any Suggestions?

Screen rotation bug / hard reset without ODIN

Hi,
So my S4 is screwed. It stopped rotating. It started freezing up.
Before you ask: yes the toggle is switched on.
The frustrating thing is I took it to the Samsung store last week with this bug and the way they fixed it was to flash it with ODIN back to stock. They blamed software I installed for causing the problem. I picked my phone up yesterday and I've already managed to get the problem back with the apps I've installed.
I kicked it into recovery mode and did a wipe from there. After restarting, the bug was still present with no new apps installed.
If it's software related, how in Satan's great peehole is this bug staying resident after a format from Recovery Mode?
This is really REALLY frustrating, as I don't want to have to go and be without a phone for another 5 days whilst they flash it again.
I don't want to flash it with ODIN as they told me in the shop that they can tell if you do and it will invalidate the warranty.
The app I have as a candidate for causing the problem is DJMax Ray, which is my favourite Korean button bashing game. In DJMAx Ray, it locks rotation for you to play, and it may be a recent update that has changed the way it does this to cause the problem.
It's my favourite game, so I'd be well upset if I had to stop playing it.
It's still driving me crazy though - if it's a software thing, why the hell does a format not fix it?
Does anyone have any experience / ideas / suggestions as to a fix without going back to Samsung? I've tried the whole changing the toggle and taking the battery out for a few minutes, and kicking it into ODIN mode and taking the battery out as it starts. These both don't work.
How else can I reset my phone back to factory in the most agressive, data wipey way without invalidating my warranty?
Hope someone can help!

Samsung S7 Edge; Occasionally Freezes

Hey guys,
I have absolutely researched this to death - wanted to see if any tech geniuses could help me out.
I have a 6-month old S7 Edge. It freezes occasionally (once every 2-4 weeks maybe) and will become completely unresponsive until it completely drains of battery and dies. No hard reset button combination works and once it turns on it can freeze a lot again. It's completely sporadic and I can't figure out any particular process that it is causing it. Basically, I think there is a hardware condition in my phone because the problem has occurred on several different ROMs I've installed.
It is currently running the stock OS but has previously been rooted so I cannot send it back on warranty. Do you think there is a solution to my problem or am I facked?
Thanks legends,
Joey

Nougat update sleep issues

Is anybody else experiencing screen issues after the nougat update?
i find, periodically , particularly after disconnecting the device from hdmi and closing the lid that upon reopening the device its wholly unresponsive and requires a long hold of the power button to reboot the device?
there doesnt appear to be a constant but it never happened in the year odd of ownership prior to nougat? Any ideas?
Yep, same issue. Android System is consuming around 50% of the battery, when it was around 10% before the update. The upper back of the bottom also gets much hotter than before. Already created a support ticket with Lenovo but haven't heard back from them in almost two weeks.
Me too. Same issue.
Any answer in your case from the supportticket?

I was having this issue too. Seems to have been resolved with a manual cache wipe through recovery. Hasn't happened in the last 24 hours even with long periods in sleep mode.
Same Problem but in Android 6

I have exactly similar problem but in Android 6 Marshmallow. I have system updated many many times. Today there was nougat update available but I have seen may users complaining about different issues regarding Nougat version. So I have not updated yet. Since I have the same hibernation (screen off/ shutdown) problem even before the update. I am thinking of updating to Nougat.
I tried many methods but did not succeed. If you have found out any solutions please share with me. So will I.
Thank you
Were you able to solve this problem? I've been living with this for the last year. When the device goes to sleep it can't wake up and I have to press the power button for 20 sec to reboot it. Very annoying since it gets hot and uses the whole battery while stuck in this mode.
